  • I'm reading way to many bad things about the new Lion... is it worth it??

I'm reading way to many bad things about the new Lion... is it worth the upgrade and hassle or will this push me back to Google for e-mail, calendars and contacts? I love my Mobile.Me... Why change whats working for an OS thats not working ?

The more you read these forums the more you'd mistakenly think that Lion is generally a problem.
For every person who comes here with a problem there's many thousands who are running Lion hassle-free, including me.
I've used MobileMe since the beginning and have happily moved to iCloud, There's a couple of things you may miss from MobileMe in the short term but those things like iWeb hosting are going away anyway in June.
I suggest you join the millions of Happy Lion Users. Just back up your data in case you absolutely need to do a clean install back to Snow Leopard.

  • Where did this "google suggestion" thing in my toolbar come from and how delete it?

adobe flash is constantly asking to update, and even if i uncheck the boxes where
it requests to set google chrome as default browser and to add google toolbar,
the update still always installs google crap, anyways.
i never had that google suggestion thing appear in my address bar before when
i was trying to type an address, and even after i clicked to disable it, my address
bar still doesn't show my history the way it did, before. why does flash wreck
by browser every time it updates whether i give it permission to install this
google crap or not? are the updates just excuses to wreck my browser?

other than going into my history i'm not sure how to look up the address.
the flash installer sent me there.
i have 3 links in my history folder from today
Adobe - Install a different version of Adobe Flash Player
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
    https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_14_for_Internet_Explor er&os=Windows 7&browser_type=MSIE&browser_dist=OEM&dualoffer=true&chromedefault=false&type=au&browser_v ers=11&d=Google_Toolbar_7.5&d=Google_Chrome_35.0_IE_Browser
again, i specifically unchecked the boxes that asked permission to install the google toolbar
and set google chrome as default browser. after just about every update, i have to go back
and uninstall malware and reset my browser settings to the way they were, no watter how
i check the google boxes before the updates
for some reason, this box changes the links to display as link titles

  • I have an old powerPC G4. dual 867 512 MB. my optical drive is having trouble reading my leopard installer.  I was going to try to use remote install but i don't have a network where I can connect both the mac and the windows laptop.  any suggestions?

I'm just trying to revive my old PowerPC G4/ dual 867MHz 512MB.  Unfortunately I am unable to install from disc since my optical drive, although still working, is somehow not able to read the leopard installer.  I wanted to try the remote install option but have limited resources and don't have a network where I can have both the Mac desktop and windows laptop communicate.  I read somewhere that I can use a crossover cable to connect the two directly.  I'm still trying to see if I can get an external DVD-ROM as another option.  Any suggestions?

Your Mac doesn't need a crossover cable, it auto-switches...

But I have no idea how that will help you install from a Windows computer.
If you get an external DVD drive it needs to be Firewire & Mac bootable.
    Other solution...

  • About report groups and read programs for the object EC_PCA_SUM

    Hi Friends,
Hope every one is doing well..!
I've an issue with the report groups and read programs for the object EC_PCA_SUM. As we know that the report groups and read programs available for this object in the application customizing are used to analys the archived data.
That is these programs comes into picture after the archiving operation.
For more information, you can visit the below web site:
Now, my question is how would I check the code for these analysing programs available for this object. I can't see this in SE38.
    Thanks to reply for this..
    Full marks will be awarded.
    Regards,
    Shamim

    Hi Lakshman,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Hi Deiter,
    You're right.
Your provided transaction "GR55" helped me to find out the program name for a particular group. However, these are just Write and Painter reports.
But can you please let me know the functionality of these report groups ?? what are these used for ???
Do we have these programs for other archiving objects like CO_ITEM,CO_ML_BEL,MM_MATBEL,CO_ORDER,
    PP_PLAN,PP_BKFLUSH ??
    More points will be awarded.
    Thanks a lot.

  • About process programming

    Hi,
I was trying to run cvs from a java program using the following code:
    Process proc = rt.exec("c:\\tools\\wincvs\\cvsnt\\cvs -d :pserver:[email protected]:/var/local/cvshome login");
Now when the command is entered in dos prompt -
    c:\tools\wincvs\cvsnt\cvs -d :pserver:[email protected]:/var/local/cvshome login
the cvs asks for the password using its own prompt.
Now when I run my java program, all I see is a prompt blinking as usual but accepting no input and showing no output and my program is also stuck there. cvs can be run with other commands (update, check out etc except login command) by the same java program (i.e. changing the paramer in exec method) after loggin is done in dos prompt (before my program is run). It apears to me that some how there is a conflict for IO. I put my java program to sleep so that cvs have the console but no effect. I am not sure how command line programs (like cvs) when run as a process by java programs are given their own console (input/output). For GUI program like Notepad.exe, u know it runs in its own window. You may wonder why i am not calling the GUI version of cvs. What I am trying to do is like other programs such as 'ant' of 'intelliJIDEA' do. They update or commit files without explicitly calling wincvs.
Also like other programming languages which are very emphatic about IPC and semaphone and blah blah, where are the equivalent things in java hidden.
PS: Does anybody has any idea how to send parameters to login command of cvs? For IntelliJIDEA, using update or commit commands doesnot require loggin on. I wonder how IntelliJIDEA does that.

This link is supposed to be attached to every post about Runtime.exec().

Now it's attached to yours too.

  • Looking for must-read programming reference material

I am relatively new to programming and would like a reading list of must-read programming references. I know several languages, but I am not looking for materials about any particular language; instead, I would like to read up on more fundamental things such as programming concepts, programming algorithms, programming paradigms,  computer architectures, programming style, etc. What are the classic, must-read books and articles that I should begin reading? Thank you for your suggestions.

I've never used assembly for a 64-bit system, but I'm sure most of the same concepts apply.  In fact I'm pretty sure any change is analogous to the change from 16 to 32 which wasn't that drastic.
With assembly language, learning the core concepts is the biggest step, the difference between 16 and 32 bit wasn't like learning a new language, rather it was just having more and bigger registers.  I don't do any actual programming in assembly - I dabbled a bit for fun, but I dont 'use' it.  But the concepts I learned through assembly have helped me in every other programming language.  Given that, I'm sure a book on 32-bit assembly would be useful for a 64-bit system.
Consider too that assembly is a bit of a dying art.  Pair that with the fact that 64-bit systems are relatively new, and there won't be many people who can write a quality book about their lifetime of experience with 64-bit assembly.
Lastly, (in this very disorganized listing of barely related points), 32-bit to 64-bit is also a trivial change compared to the various instruction sets that have been used.  If/when you understand the similarities and differences between the various assembly languages and instruction sets, is when you really start using the strengths of your particular architecture.  (I'm tempted to make a Matrix reference "There is no spoon").  My favorite assembly languages, just for the fun of it, are One-Instruction-Set systems.  When I realized that one single instruction used repeatedly can create the diversity of programs we use ... I was in geek heaven.  I put that day on par with learning about hardware-software interchangability, and the fact that our modern computers are made up of a vast series of only one type of logic gate ... and the day I learned some lamba calculus ... (end geekgasm)
Anyhow, learning to 'think' in assembly language can help all your programming (IMHO) regardless of whether you ever speak to your computer in that language.  So, yes, I'd say the 32-bit book would be worth reading even if your current computer is 64.

I currently have Snow Leopard and am thinking of upgrading to Lion but have heard some bad things about it.  Should I upgrade or not? What do you like/dislike about Lion?

It is indeed all down to what you need to do with your machine.   Snow leopard is an excellent OS and as Baltwo suggests you have to check out your current apps and programs because PPC won't work on any higher OS than the one you have.
Andy's comment is very interesting and, I suspect, insider knowledge based     Certainly I would wait for Mavericks now it is on the horizon ... and then add six months or so for the bugs to be ironed out.
Good luck, whatever you do.   I'm staying with Snow Leopard.

Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
    HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating
Instead of HDDFan Control, get the free SSDFan Control

  • I CAN'T GET MY MACBOOK AIR, IPHONE OR IPAD CONNECT TO EACH OTHER THROUGH BLUETOOTH. I HAVE TRIED ALL THE SUGGESTIONS I HAVE READ, INCLUDING RESTARTING DEVICES, FORGETTING DEVICES, TURNING BLUETOOTH ON AND OFF.

I am unable to connect my Macbook air, iPhone or iPad though bluetooth. I have tried all the suggestions I have read. i.e. toggle bluetooth on and off, turn devices on and off, forget devices and then pair. I seem to be able to pair but the devices immediately go to not connected and a message appears that reads: make sure devices are turned on and in range.

Pairing the phone with the car is one thing, but paring to the computer is not generally supported. Tethering is using the cellular data access from the phone for the other devices. It is part of Personal Hotspot. If you aren't aware of what it is, then it probably is something you do not use.
As far as the car is concerned, what is not working? Does the car not see the phone, or the phone see the car, or after you start to pair something fails? If you provide more information about the problem and what you have tried to do to correct it, then we can offer some solutions. What version of the iPhone, what iOS, and what year and make of vehicle?

My needs are relatively simple for my small business:  1)  I need to be able to import years worth of Quicken data into the new program  2)  I need to easily print checks  3)  I need to easily reconcile my checking account each month and  4)  I need to generate basic reports for my accountant (e.g. P & L statements, category summaries).
I have been a FileMaker user since 1.0 so I don't need (or want) A/R, A/P, inventory management, invoicing, etc.
I just need a solid, dependable electronic checkbook per above.
    Suggestions?

I am using Quicken Essentials 1.7.4 on a [Mac Pro, 2.8 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 16 Gb of memory], running 10.7.5.  I am in the process of upgrading everything to work on Yosemite and Quicken seems to be the most difficult problem to overcome.
Thanks for your response and feedback.
I would recommend you continue with Quicken Essentials.  As noted by others, it performs well on Yosemite.
My personal experience is Quicken 2007 for Mac also on 10.7.5 (with many reports of it both updated and successfully running on Yosemite) and I personally would not touch Quicken Essentials with a 10 foot pole -- BUT, if it ain't broke for you, don't fix it!

How to define game map for java midlet
If I see the rpg game, it have default map. I want to know how to translate it to code
in midlet? The map will be existed image or dynamicly generated?
Like Prince of Persia Midlet version, I wonder how to generate the environment?
Is it pixel generated or immutable image?
    detect collision
SO if the map is image and the sprite game is draw over the map, how can we detect the
         collision?
Please hellp me.... because I want to be game programmer for midlet but I
didn't know about game programming before

to write a small game in midl is already a hard work. to make a big one, take a look of a team of programers.
about maping, there is no such thing. wire every thing by yourself. by books or read tutorials.
as i already said. no easy task.
but keep on trying. if you need some help write me a mail.

    Hi bangbit,
As Pnt pointed out, the VI for which you posted an image does not acquire any
data.  Since you are interested in measuring voltage, I will assume that
you have either an E Series or M Series device.  If I am wrong, please
specify what hardware you have and what driver will you use with it (E Series
devices can use either DAQmx or the Tradional DAQ drivers)?
I recommend starting with one of the shipping examples available in
LabVIEW.  In LabVIEW, go to the help menu and select Find Examples.
From there, select Hardware Input and Output and depending on whether you are
using DAQmx or Traditional DAQ, you can select the appropriate folder according
to the driver you are using.  If you are using DAQmx, you may want to play
with the DAQ Assistant VI to set up some standard tasks.
You can find the device name by opening up Measurement and Automation Explorer
(a program that installs with the device drivers).  Your device with the
device name will be listed there.
If you have general questions about how to program in LabVIEW, please refer to LabVIEW Introduction Course
    - Six Hours and Getting
    Started with NI-DAQmx: Main Page.
