Where do mail rules live in finder?

Mail rules are stored in iCloud if you use iCloud.
They're in ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/MailData/SyncedRules.plist.
Note you should be VERY careful about modifying anything under Mobile Documents as it's iCloud and changes/errors/deletions you make will be instantly synched to all your devices.

  • I have an iPhone 4 and I am wondering how I remove emails from the "All Mail" .  I have over 8,000 emails and want to free up storage but it will take forever to delete them 1 at a time!  Help!

Is there a way to remove emails from the Exchange Account "All Mail"?  I have over 8 thousand emails and want to clear them out.  It looks as though I have to delete them one by one!

Since it's an Exchange account, it sounds like the way to do this would be to remove them using a computer.

My phone was stolen, but I had no data left and so can't locate it till the person who has it tries to use the internet. I backed up all my photos on iCloud, and want to get them on my PC. I installed iCloud onto the PC and  followed the instructions and still can't find my pictures, says my photostream folder is empty, but it shows on iCloud that i've used most of my storage which is true, so they must be there somewhere?
Any ideas? I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks

Yes, I filed police report, but there is nothing they can do until I get back to them on the tracking. It's been offline. I'm sure the whoever took it can find a way around breaking in the ipad..i really was hoping to get my pictures and videos of my kids back

  • Hi, I have added on Musique finder my old CD and want now to add them on my iTunes, please, could you explain to me step by step how to do this? Mant tks in advances for your kind help

Hi, I have added on Musique finder my old CD and want now to add them on my iTunes, please, could you explain to me step by step how to do this? Mant tks in advances for your kind help

Correct, it will only be one-level, the Photos app doesn't support sub-albums - the sub-folders photos will be included in the parent's album.
If you select My Pictures at the top of the Photos tab when syncing, then you should get an album for each folder that is directly under it - so if I understand correctly what you described then that would mean an album for 2013, one for 2012 etc. And each of those should include all the photos in the subfolders under it - so 2013 would include the photos from the events and months subfolders under it.
You can't sync them separately, only the contents of the last sync remains on the iPad, by not including a folder in the next photo sync you are effectively telling iTunes that you no longer want that folder/album on the iPad so it will be removed and be replaced by the contents of the new sync (you can't delete synced photos directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next sync).
The app that I use, Photo Manager Pro, allows you to select and copy a folder (via FTP), but you would need to select each subfolder individually, which if you have a lot would be time-consuming (I think that if you select '2013' it would ignore the folders beneath it).

  • Mail rules -- apply only to inbox or all mailboxes?

I've done a major revamp of my Mail application. I used to have a dozen or so mailboxes, and some had rules that would move newly arrived messages from my inbox to a designated mailbox.
I've now opted instead to use a dozen or so 'smart mailboxes.' I've moved all my messages back to my inbox and deleted the dozen or so mailboxes. The smart mailboxes nicely filter the messages as I've constructed the smart mailbox rules. However, I still have two mailboxes whose content isn't easily filtered via smart mailboxes.
Now, back to my inbox .... It's got a few thousand messages. My goal is to create a mail rule in preferences that would move anything older than 30 days into secondary mailbox. If I write this rule and run it, does it apply ONLY to my inbox? Or to the inbox and any other mailboxes?

I played around with it and found out that my rule to move older docs to a separate folder only runs on my inbox, as I had hoped.

  • Changing Name in Finder & I lost  all of my photographs...sort of.

    Sequence of events
1.In my Finder my home folder is called Matthew (my real name)
    2. This morning I renamed it to Matthew & Vanessa (my partners name)
    3. This afternoon I opend Safari and noticed all of my bookmarks had gone and my homepage had reverted to apple.com - "This is odd" I thought. My history is ok.
    4. I looked in my iphoto - EMPTY!! 1000+ photographs gone! "This cannot be happening".
    5. The contents of my Documents folders and the folders/files in there seemed to be ok. I looked at the last letter I remember writing and that was stil there.
    6. All Microsoft Office icons have dissappered from the Dock
    7. When I opend Entourage, it behaved as if it was the first time I was opening it. All information from there had gone.
    8. Upon investigation I found both a "Matthew" folder and a Matthew & Vanessa" Folder in Macintosh HD/Users. They use different icons; Matthew is a house Matthew & Vanessa is a folder.
    9. Their contents seem to be the same with one exception. In Macintosh HD/Users/Matthew & Vanessa/Pictures/iphoto library there is an /originals folder that seems to have all of my photos in. This folder does not exist taking the same path through Matthew/Pictures/iphoto library etc.
    Questions
How can I revert back to the happy position I was in this morning with my photos in iphoto?
    1. Can I reverse the change in name I made and restructure the contents to what it was
    OR
    2. Do I have to re-import and start again fro the stated path/folder above?
    3. Is it possible to change the name of the home folder? I would never have thought such a simple act would have such a catastrophic outcome. It feels like I have opened a new folder altogether; which has prioirity over everything else.

  • Itunes:  i want to find a single fix for missing music on itunes rather than using "iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads" on a case by case basis.

recently when i was creating a playlist, i realized that i was missing music from my extensive itunes (12.0.1.26) library.  i found the solution "itunes:  finding lost media and downloads" and used the general approach to find the music in finder and copy it to itunes.  i don't want to do this every time i find i am missing music.  is there an automated fix?  i want apple to develop a way to automate the fix.  can it be that this isn't a problem for many people?
i ask this now because i just looked for music i thought i had but can't find.  maybe i am wrong about having the artist, but it has happened on another artist too.  i can't trust itunes to tell me whether i have a song or not.  i don't want to keep going back to finder, especially when the instructions in "itunes:  finding lost media and downloads" doesn't actually reflect my system (os x 10.7.5).
i don't want to try to do a restore.  i have never done a restore on my mac (previously a pc user).  and, i don't know how far back to take the restore to find the old music.  and then music i have added since i lost the old music wouldn't be there.
i understand that there are so many system variables that apple would need to take into consideration with a general fix.  but:  i am assuming that apple's changes have caused my problem and feel that apple should do something to fix it.  perhaps my assumption is incorrect.
    thank you for your help.

limnos, i always have backups.  the problem is that i don't know how far back in time to take a restore because i don't know how long this has been going on.  and, if i take the restore back very far, i will lose what has been added since the music started to disappear.
i don't even know what you mean when you say "you will check there aren't any broken links (use a script from the Dougscripts web site) before you do a backup."
i agree with you to some extent about not automatically installing upgrades.  i'm still running lion and was pushed to it from snow leopard.  the problem is that i have a hard time envisioning the changes described in an update to judge whether something is valuable or not.
i have questions about your last paragraph.  i'm going to repeat it here and then insert my questions as i go.  please forgive my all caps for the moment:
"Now for your missing music, is it that there are broken links, or are things missing completely from the library?" I DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION.  I BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH BROKEN LINKS.  WHEN I COULDN'T FIND THE MUSIC THAT I THOUGHT I HAD LOADED INTO ITUNES YEARS AGO, I FOUND THE CD'S AND IMPORTED THEM TO ITUNES.  I GOT A MESSAGE ABOUT SOME OF THE TRACKS BEING DUPLICATES THAT ASKED WHETHER I WANTED TO IGNORE OR IMPORT.  I CHOSE IMPORT BECAUSE ITUNES DIDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS DUPLICATED.  IT WAS ONLY AFTER RE-IMPORTING SEVERAL CD'S THAT I REALIZED THAT THERE WERE NOW DUPLICATES OF THE CD'S:  THE FILES I HAD JUST LOADED AND THOSE THAT I HAD LOADED SOME TIME AGO.  THE ORIGINALS MAGICALLY APPEARED AFTER I RE-IMPORTED THE CD'S.   I'M GUESSING THAT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A BROKEN LINK  I DON'T KNOW HOW TO RECOGNIZE A BROKEN LINK OR HOW TO PREVENT ONE.  AFTER I REALIZED THE PROBLEM, I FOUND THE "FINDING LOST MEDIA AND DOWNLOADS" QUIDE.  I LOCATED THE MISSING MUSIC IN FINDER AND DRAGGED IT TO ITUNES.  DOES THIS COUNT AS A BROKEN LINK?
"If the latter and you use iTunes default settings for managing media, you can drag your media folder to Automatically Add To iTunes.  It should add anything in the folder but not in the library list but ignore things that are."  CAN YOU REPHRASE THIS LAST PARAGRAPH?  I DON'T KNOW WHAT "DEFAULT SETTINGS FOR MANAGING MEDIA" MEANS.
FOR "DRAG MEDIA FOLDER TO AUTOMATICALLY ADD TO ITUNES,"  I THINK YOU MEAN I CAN DRAG   /MUSIC/ITUNES/ITUNES MEDIA/MUSIC   IN FINDER TO THE ITUNES ICON IN THE DOCK.  AND, THAT THAT ACTION WILL REPLACE ANYTHING MISSING IN ITUNES BUT NOT DUPLICATE THE FILES THAT ARE IN ITUNES.  IS THAT RIGHT?
thank you for your time and help, limnos.

  • I upgraded my iPhone 4 from iOS 3.3.5 to iOS 5.0 and lost all my photos on the camera roll. Where are they and can I  retrieve them?

I upgraded my iOS 3.3.5 to 5.0 on my iPhone 4 and lost all photos on camera roll. Where are they and can they be recovered?

Have you been using your phone as recommended?  If so, you've been importing photos in your camera roll onto your computer for safe keeping.  Just as you would with a standalone digital camera.  Your photos would then reside safely on your computer for archival.
While camera roll photos ARE part of the backup, not everything always goes smoothly as you've seen, which is why the recommendation to import photos as soon as possible to your computer.
If you have a recent backup of your iPhone, you can restore and hopefully many of your photos will be on this backup.  Any photos or data added to your phone since this last backup are, of course, gone forever.

  • Mail is unable to find responses to emails and missing messages

Since making the change to apple mail about 90 days ago, I have had an ongoing problem with missing messages sent from my desktop and iphone. They are not in the sent folder or the separate project email folder. However, the arrow next to the original message shows that the original email was responded to. When I click on the arrow, I receive a message saying that it cannot find the message and that I may have deleted the message.
I moved the Mail folder from the Caches folder and still no help.
I am required to keep all email messages sent and received. But this is an ongoing problem that has resulted in several lost messages. If I cannot resolve this issue, I may need to switch to a different email program.

oops sorry, Mailbox Behaviors: Drafts, store messages on server is checked. Notes, Store notes in inbox is checked. Sent, Store sent messages on server is checked and it is set to never delete sent messages. Junk, nothing is checked and delete junk messages when: is set to never. i also use a mac laptop from time to time but the missing messages were sent from the desktop.

  • Where in settings/sounds do I find apple timer sound and lock sound?

After a reset to try and get mains charging back (it didn't work) The Apple alarm has changed its sound and I want to revert to my previous sound but I cannot finf anything that alters this in Settings/Sounds. Also I would linker a stronger sound when I plug into a mains charge ( when I eventually get it back) I can't find that in Settings/Sounds either. Any advice?
    Thanks.

I do not know what you mean by the Apple Alarm. If you are talking about the clock app where you can set an alarm, you have to option to set whatever sound you want when you set or edit the alarm setting. If you have an existing alarm, tap the Eidt button in the upper left corner, tap the arrow to the right of the alarm and the Sound setting is the 3rd setting in the list.
If you are not hearing the plug in sound, system sounds have been muted, or so it would seem. You cannot change that sound. You can make it louder in the settings in Sounds>Ringers and alerts. Use the volume slider there and as long as you don't have it set to use the volume button, then whatever you adjust the volume level to in that setting, will be the volume setting for the charging ding.
If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • How do i find audiobooks I downloaded and then listen to them on ipad

I recently bought my first iPad.
Using my MacBook Pro, yesterday, I bought my first audiobook from the iTunes store and it is in the Macbook iTunes.
However, when I couldn't find it with the iPad, l looked up a discussion here and found that audiobooks only download to one device and that I had to sync the devices, which I did. The book showed up under "Audiobooks" on the Music app, but it wouldn't play on the iPad.
The discussion said something about needing to buy and download a book onto the iPad to get audiobooks to work. Therefore, today I bought and downloaded a book to the iPad.
Now I cannot find that book or the first book. And the Audiobooks category has disappeared from the bottom of the Music app window.
What's going on? How do I find where the iPad has stored these books and how can I listen to them?

The audio books do not show up on iBooks—only books and PDFs.
I synced iPad with MacBook Pro and found my Library. Both audiobooks are there. Neither will play on the iPad.
When I touch one to play it, or when I tap the play arrow, the line at the top indicating where I am in the book blinks on for a only second. The play button will briefly become pause button then goes back to play as if I had not tried to play it al all.

  • Hi, hmmmm i haven't used i tunes in a while and previously i was able to access my music in iCloud, but now i can't seem to find it at all, and from what i can't see you have to purchase an account with match to do so? is this correct?

i dont want to have to purchase and imatch account, is there a nother way of accessing my icloud music?

Purchases you have made from the iTunes Store should in most cases be in the Cloud (unless the rights owner has had it removed or you are in a country which does not permit this).  Other music such as CDs you have ripped are only there if you subscribe to iTunes Match.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability by country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple recommends,  "You always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store," (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).

  • WHERE CAN I PUT MY INVOICES WHEN I AM FINISHED CREATING AND WANT TO USE THEM?

I am creating Invoices for work.I have twelve clients and I have created a invoice I like. Where do I put these to use every month and how do I do that?

    Tara,
Numbers has a Custom Template function. Create a document that you would like to reuse, and then File > Save as Template...
From then on, when you want to start at that point with a new document you do a File > New... and navigate to the My Templates area at the bottom of the Template Chooser where you can click on the one you created.
If you ever want to modify that template, just do it and then File > Save as Template... again, using the identical file name.

  • Why does 'Find My Friends' show arrival time based on PCT rather than GMT

Both my iPhone is set on GMT (British Summer Time) my Macbook Pro is set as GMT (British Summer Time) and the location I have arrived at is in the UK. Yet the 'Find My Friends' alert shows I arrived several hours before I did in fact the same time that it would have been on the West Coast of America.

I have never gotten this to even send me 1 email.   Sorry for the useless comment but I'd like to get notified on updates for this one.
