Where do migrated files and folders go on destination computer?

I used migration assistant send files and folders from my portable to my desktop. Just trying to get all my data in one place - probably attempting "merging." Followed instruction for migration assistant and it said it completed task. Butr I can not find the folders and files from my portable on my dektop. Where would they be??

Check here:
Macintosh HD/Users
It will probably be in a folder labeled with the name of the User Account on the old Mac.

  • Saved Digital ID to desktop, all desktop files and folders immediately vanished from computer

I was signing a document in Abobe Reader, and instructed to create a new digital ID in order to do so.
when I did this, I chose to save the digital ID to the desktop, replacing whatever its original destination to be saved to was.
when I hit finish, every single file and folder on my desktop vanished from my laptop (Macbook air running OSX Yosemite) completely. I have searched everyone and gone through a live chat with an Apple specialist who has had access to my screen and cannot find anything. All files and folders, music and photos that were not on my desktop are still here. I have tried re-starting.
Does anyone have any idea what has happened and how to fix it? I am a graduate student and part of my dissertation was on my desktop. I am an idiot for not having backed it up properly, and will be buying an external hard drive and using Time Machine immediately.

    Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for contacting Adobe via this forum and other correspondence.
I see that Adobe Support has contacted you directly and is working with you on this issue.

  • Migration assistant - what is other files and folders?

Am using Migration Assistant as we speak and wanted to know what info are contained in the " other files and folders " section. Its is 10GB of space and so wanted to make sure it is important stuff.

Here is a link to using Migration Assistant and includes information about the Other Files and Folders near the bottom of the page. In most cases you'll want to have everything selected to transfer.

  • Where are my Finder files and folders?

I just upgraded to Lion. I like the full screen approach to viewing apps, but... There are files and folders I had on my desktop but when I use the 3-finger side scroll to view the desktop, my web browser is all that shows. Same with the 3-finger up scroll. When I open a new Finder window from the Dock, it is in front of the last app that I opened. If viewing in full screen, how can I drag anything to the Airdrop app? Is it intended that we need to exit full screen mode to do the mundane things like moving files? Also, I don't like losing the 3 finger Back gesture while web browsing.

I diagnosed the problem to using autofs. I have edited my /etc/fstab file to have a couple of afp entries, but when these shares are not available, it hangs the Finder on the computer the Mac mini. Why is this? I thought the whole reason to use autofs and the fstab file was to automount shares WHEN AVAILABLE.
Any insight to this behavior of autofs?

  • How to sort files and folders like Windows

I don't know if this is specific to Arch or every other Linux distro but one thing that really bugs me in Arch is how files and folders are sorted. I use Windows as my main OS (don't start on that please) and I have one folder properly organized exactly as I want it and I like it how Windows sorts this. I access that same folder from my Arch installation, the problem is that the sorting is different and it gets on my nerves lol...

Ah, no. The way they are doing it is nonsensical and not good practice for a unix style system. Having said that, some solutions have already been offered in this thread.
While you are free to continue to ask others to help you achieve your aims, it may be more convenient for you to adapt to a structure that is displayed the same way under all systems (just to avoid frustration - not saying you _should_ do it ).
I really don't care if it's nonsensical, I use Windows 95% of the time or more, it's my main OS, I'm used to it and I like it. Why should I care if it's not a good practice for a unix style system? I just want things to behave the way I like and for a free system like Linux where it doesn't even compare to Windows in terms of freedom in what I can do with it and configure the way I like, it sure is hard to change the way folders/files are sorted...
It sucks that there isn't a proper solution but I'm not going to adapt anything, that would be nonsensical... But if I have to, I can live with the fact that there isn't a good solution and leave it as it is

  • I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work. Help?

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • Role Assignment Discovery Issue for Files and Folders through Sharepoint REST services

To preface, I am a decided Sharepoint newbie in every sense. I am trying to use the Sharepoint REST services (Sharepoint 2013) to walk the folder and file structure of my Sharepoint server and, determine as I go, the Role Assignments (and subsequently
Permissions) on those folders and files. I'm using an Administrator credentials and I'm actually able to successfully do it but I've run into some caveats. All the caveats begin with this; when I'm examining a folder, for example:
    /_api/Web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/sites/cmisdev/Development')/ListItemAllFields
I receive either an empty list or an error response doc when following the link supplied for ListItemAllFields.  When following that kind of link for folders, I either get:
    <d:ListItemAllFields
    m:null="true"
    />
or an error response document that says "The object specified does not belong to a list." When I hit the /ListItemAllFields endpoint for files, I receive a response with a link for Role Assignments which subsequently also works and I get the
info I need. So, is this a bug? Why does the link returned from Sharepoint work for files and not folders? So, google, google, google, and I discover that there is another possible way to get at the Role Assignments (and that the object does, indeed, belong
    to a list!).
If I know the Title (or the guid) of the folder in question, I can use the following endpoint:
    /_api/Web/Lists/GetByTitle('Development')
If I use that endpoint, I get the information I would have expected to get from following /ListItemAllFields and the subsequent Role Assignments links all work and I get what I need. If there's a bug and this is how I have to work around it, that's fine
but I have yet to discover how to dynamically determine the Title of a given folder nor am I sure if all Titles are supposed to be unique within a given Sharepoint server. I'm assuming that the folder name as represented in the server relative URL and the
Title may be different and this is where my newbishness may start to shine if I'm misunderstanding what a "List" is supposed to be in Sharepoint. Anyway, I did find that I could use the Properties endpoint to perhaps get the Title, for example:
    /_api/Web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/sites/cmisdev/Development')/Properties
    gives me:
    <d:vti_x005f_listtitle>Development</d:vti_x005f_listtitle>
whose value I assume I could then supply to the /GetByTitle endpoint and be golden. However, "vti_x005f_listtitle" just sounds a little too deep to be something I should be relying on but maybe that's kosher. That's part of what I'm trying to
find out. Also, if there is a way to use the Sharepoint REST API to discover the guid of a given object, then I could look it up in that way.
    So, in summary:
    1. Am I going about getting folder Role Assignment information in the wrong way? Based on the CSOM examples I've seen, I believe I'm doing it correctly and that the answer to #2 below is a resounding "Yes!" :)
    2. Is it a bug if I'm not able to use /ListItemAllFields on folders using the server relative url?
    3. If I'm supposed to use GetByTitle as a workaround, am I discovering that Title correctly through /Properties? Seems quite circuitous and awkward. Are Titles required to be unique throughout a given Sharepoint server?
    4. If I'm supposed to use the guid, how can I use the REST interface to discover an object's guid? Once we get down to the Role Assignments and other links, the guid appears in those links but I don't know how to discover it independently if that's the
path I should use to get the data I described above.

Upon further research, I'll answer my own question for the benefit of some other potential future newbie.  The answer to question number 1 above is "Not exactly.".  The server relative URLs I was using corresponded to lists (which are
returned as a collection through /_api/web/lists).  I was treating them mentally like regular folders.  That, coupled with the fact that accessing their data as I showed above returns a ListItemAllFields link, made me think that was the way to get
the Role Assignments just as I would for files and, as it turns out, "real" folders and sub-folders created under these lists.  That was the other problem with thinking of these lists as regular folders.  So, ListItemAllFields works on
all files and folders in a list.  However, if you want Role Assignments for the lists themselves, you can keep track of the Titles and\or Guids from the /_api/web/lists that you're interested in (in my case, all non-hidden "document library"
type lists) and then access those Role Assignments as I discussed in questions 3 and 4 above.  For example, from the /_api/web/lists collection from my test server, the "Development" document library Role Assignments are accessable via /_api/Web/Lists(guid'cd242eeb-aafa-4efa-aecc-9bbdf8e3d459')/RoleAssignments
    or /_api/Web/Lists/GetByTitle('Development')/RoleAssignments.

  • In PSE 11 how to import photos to the organizer from the computer files and folders

While using the restore function in PSE 11 (Windows 8), using a catalog backup from PSE 8 (Windows XP), a number of images could not be restored. To try to link to the images in their actual  location, I tried the following:
    1. I used the File Get function, browsed to the images and did a Get Media. Upon completion, the thumbnails automatically displayed in the organizer.
    2. For reasons I do not understand, the path, where these photos actually reside, displayed in a separate part of the tree view (just below the tree view created from the restore operation.) rather than in the restored tree view.
I tried to drag them to the location where they should be, but that did not work.
I noticed that when I did the get photos from files and folders, I saw no way to designate where the photos were to be linked to in the tree view. (Such as is the case when you get photos from a camera.)
I tried to find instructions on how to get photos from files and folders, to see where I am going wrong but had no luck.
Can anyone explain what is going wrong and how I can correct it?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response. Based on my understanding of your comments I tried the following:
    1. In the main tree view, I deleted the sub-folder which should have contained the files that failed to restore (SF1). Then I dragged the sub-folder in the separate tree structure (SF2) to the  location SF1.  This did not work; I got the message: A folder with the same name already exists at the requested location. When I opened the folder containing SF1 and selected: Show all SubFolders, SF1 was not deleted.
    2. I then tried to drag the images in SF2 to SF1. This too did not work; the images stayed in SF2.
    3. In SF1, I right clicked and selected: Import Media. This did not work; I got the message: Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog.
I have to assume that I either did not correctly understand your comments or that their is more at play than I realize. Could you explain why each of my attempts failed and what should I be doing to move folders, sub-folders and/or images within the organizer tree view?
    Thanks for your consideration.

  • Problems opening files in DW CS4 - not all files and folders are showing

    Hi!
I'm trying to change some already existing files on the homepage but when I click the Open button, it doesn't show all the files and folders, even if I ask it to show all files. When I open the ftp folder in Explorer, I can see everything. I'm using Vista and Dreamweaver is version 10.0 Build 4117.
Most of the unaccessible files and folders were created using Frontpage a long time ago but this also happens when I create new files, although the new ones I created used one of the old ones as a template. Any help would be appreciated! It's rather annoying not to be able to access all the files.
    Thanks a lot!

  • How can I get iTUNES library to display renamed files and folders (renamed with Windows Explorer)?

How can I get iTunes library to display the new names and organisation of tracks and albums (ie files and folders) that I have renamed and reorganised (using Windows Explorer) having previously imported them using iTunes?
(Even when I relocate "lost" tracks in iTunes (using the drop down menu facility to view in Windows explorer), although iTunes will then play the track, and knows where to find it, it refuses to display the track with its correct (new) name, or show it the correct (new) album.  That means I have lots of things called "Untitled" and "Track 01" etc, all of which have actually been renamed, but iTunes does not seem to have the capability to recognise the changes and update its library listing.  Another example - a Tchaikovsky CD with 3 major works in 13 tracks insists on displaying in iTunes as 13 tracks in one album, despite the fact that I have reorganised the tracks into 3 albums - two being Swan Lake and The Nutcracker - and renamed the individual tracks to a more useable format.)

    Thanks for your replies ckuan
I agree with Tgod that your first solution does not work.  It appears unpredictable whether the old or new file names are listed when you drag the folders into iTunes from Windows Explorer.  The folder structure is completely missing.  I reckon if you have to muck around spending days/weeks/months finding out how to fix links to a secret meta-file (obviously designed by some deep-cover microsoft worm working in the Apple!), then it's pretty obvious that almost any alternate way of doing this would be better.   Bye bye iTunes!!
Incidentally, I tried several other things that (if the software was designed intuitively) should work, but give disastrous results:
    1) when deleting the library listing in iTunes, it gives you two options - one is to remove the listings to the Recycler.  Be aware that IF you select that option, it removes not only your library listing, but also your ACTUAL MUSIC FILES to the Recycler.  Moreover, it does NOT remove the insidious secret meta-file that is what apparently keeps rewriting old names over your carefully renamed file names, and keeps totally ignoring your carefully designed folder (album) structure.  OK - not a complete disaster, as I realised and went hunting through the chaos in the Recycler to recover all my files.  No thanks to the genius who designed this brilliant feature!
    2) after deleting the library listing in iTunes, I attempted to import just the folders that I wanted.  iTunes refused to allow me to do that, and proceeded to try to import every frigging music file it could find on my whole hard drive, in apparently random fashion into the library.  Whoever thought up that doozy either never ever tried to use or market test it, or has modified their mind rather too many times with artificial substances so their brain is like muesli chop suey.
    3) oh why go on, it's too depressing ...

  • Replace all references to files and folders with lowercase in web documents on a site

Hi I'm working on a test server that runs Ubuntu Unix (but my PC which has Dreamweaver CC is running Windows 8.1). I would like to search and replace in Dreamweaver to change all src and href attribute values inside files (webpages, css, etc.) on my site to lowercase, but with the folder and file names' spelling otherwise unchanged. I already changed the names of the actual files and folders, but wanted to make all references in my files point to them again. I started to use regular expressions in the specific tag search, but I was not sure how to specify letter case conversion on a backtracked value. Some flavors of RegEx allow you to replace a searched value in parentheses with its lowercase counterpart by specifying something like this: \L\1
Where \L converts the character captured in the reference \1 to lowercase. Thanks.

    Hi Jon,
Thanks for your response. Yes, I tried. But I’m not sure you can use any RegEx special characters in the replacement text. I put in \L0 and it just replaced the match with the literal string, so href=”Support/Index.HTML” became href=”\L0”
    What I want is href=”support/index.html”
The reason I didn’t use Dreamweaver to change the actual file and folder names is I have images widely dispersed in subfolders. I didn’t think Dreamweaver would automate that part—I think you can only select a file individually to rename it, and then DW will correct all references to it. But probably can’t rename everything with one command from the root. Well, this is turning out harder than I thought.
Let me know if you have any other ideas.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

What could be happening to both of you is: Unicode Font Coverage.  Basically, each character is called a glyph.  A font definition file on your computer contains a set number of glyph's - one for each character.  If the font does not contain an entry for the specific character you are trying to use then it won't be rendered properly.  First thing to do is change to a different font-style and see if that new font contains the glyph's that were not rendering with the old one.
This Page may help in selecting a replacement font.
    Edit
Also, in the case of Hebrew fonts you will need to find a "right-to-left" setting.  That's how they are done.  I'm not familiar where you would look for such a setting in KDE, probably in a "localization" type control panel applet.

    1. Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
    2. Go to New menu -> select new below the New Window -> Disk Image from Folder
    3. Select the folder in question you wish to password protect
    4. Below the window where you select the folder, change Compressed to Read/Write, unless you want it Read only in which case you would select Read Only
    5. Encryption select AES-128 (recommended)
That will let you password protect the folder.

  • Organizing Files and Folders

Where can I find basic correct way to organize folders and files on my hard disc? I restored my hard disc using Apple "Backup" and my files and folders are scattered all over with no discernible hierarchy or method. iPhoto, iTunes unable to access files. It's an incredible mess.

I'm not at all sure I understand what you mean, but here is what you should see if you double click the hard drive icon on your Desktop, then select View->as Columns, and select Users, yourname, Pictures. The items shown are the Apple default folders at each level, until you get to the Pictures folder, which contains the iPhoto Library, the Aperture Library, an iPhoto Slideshow folder, plus two folders I created myself inside the Pictures folder.
You can create any folders you want inside your own home folder to put things in, and also create any sub-folders you want inside the standard folders in your home to further organize things.
