Where Do My Applications Live?

I was wondering and this may be a stupid question so please forgive my ignorance.In my sidebar I having showing in this order: Applications. Desktop. Documents. Downloads. Music. And my home folder named Jaco. Devices I have the Mac HD showing which I also named Jaco. So today I was going through the sidebar and under my home Jaco directory I only see three third party apps that I installed, unless that's where the install by default. All of my other apps third party and Mac apps show in the listing in my side bar Applications. When I open that folder I see all but the three apps I mentioned above. And the Mac HD is highlighted. So if I double click and open that under Application that's where I see my apps, Is this how the direcrtory structure should be?

but where is the Application Sharing file located? or it means the J2EE defaultTrace file?

Hi Gerardo,
Collaboration uses the logging mechanisms of the J2EE Engine. Therefore it is the defaultTrace.trc under .../usr/sap/<SID>/Jxx/j2ee/cluster/serverX/log/ .

Mail rules are stored in iCloud if you use iCloud.
They're in ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/MailData/SyncedRules.plist.
Note you should be VERY careful about modifying anything under Mobile Documents as it's iCloud and changes/errors/deletions you make will be instantly synched to all your devices.

Where do I find live OnetoOne Support for Photoshop CS5?

I have Apple OnetoOne but, unfortunately, they will not help me learn Photoshop CS5. It is understandable since Photoshop is not an Apple product. With that said, I still need to learn it. I really do not want to purchase the generic Photoshop tutorials and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get live OnetoOne support; where the tutor goes live with me on my screen and over the telephone and walks me through the steps. This is frustrating for me because I ultimately need to learn Photoshop in support of my iWeb designed website. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Honestly, I have to lay it on the line. There is no customer service that can even shake a stick at Apple. With Photoshop CS5, a $1600 program, you only get 2 free phone support phone calls. How pathetic is that?! It is such a complicated program and not nearly as intuitive as Aperture. Granted, CS5 is far more advanced than Aperture but it doesn't matter if I don't know how to use it. So what I am left with? I feel as if, "I am but a fish caught in the net of an empty wind". I just wish Apple would come out with a much more advanced versions of Aperture and iWeb. Having to use third party software truly *****. In my new business, I am making high-end photobooks and I "have" to use this photobook software called AlbumDS. Unfortunately, AlbumDS is a plug-in for, you guessed it, Photoshop. As much as I love Apple, I hate how proprietary everything is and I just wish they would loosen the reigns a bit so that outside award winning software would be supported with Apple products.

Also, make sure that you're actually logged in as the same user that you had in Panther - you can check under the Users folder to see if there's another user. You won't be able to search other users' folders in Spotlight, so you will have to log out and in to get those files, if they're there.

Where does the artwork live ?

Where in the systm does the artwork 'live' thats associated with tracks ?
I fully understand how to add it to tracks etc but where does it actually live as I don't see it in the itunes music folder ?

iTunes stores the artwork inside the music files, if the files support tagging (MP3, AAC).
Observing the file sizes of AIFF (does not officially support tagging) makes it assumable it is also stored in/attached to these files.

On the Desktop double click on your Hard Drive icon, (usually called Macintosh HD), look for a folder called Applications... directory is another name for folder.

Where do my photos live!! The library is???

I know my photos live in the iphoto 08 library but how do i get to the "file" to see all the pictures NOT when iPhoto is open. Its only because when i want to add a picture to a email i have to copy it from iPhoto and put it on my desktop. i know the path is something like
user/myname/pictures/iphoto ect. but that doesnt get me to the raw file.

The library has been converted to a unix style package probably because so many users had messed around inside the library folder and damaged it. See See TD's treatis on file access. It describes several way to access the photos for use outside of iPhoto.
Or, for those times iPhoto is not open you can use the freewareiMedia Browser which integrates seamlessly with iPhoto, Aperture and any folder you designate that contains image files.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Number of Orace Cloud (customer PaaS not subscription) Applications live?

This question is more directed at the sales side of the Oracle Cloud organization. As an upcoming customer I would like to get a feel for the current utilization of the data center - specifically the one in Austin.
How many customer applications are live (I know this may be hard to answer - # of deployments per customer by % of traffic - essentially I would like to know how many have signed up for the hosted platform service - not the out-of-the-box applications.
What % of customers use the hosted platform vs the social and CRM/ERP subscription applications?
From Larry Ellisons' tweet last summer it is ambiguous as to whether the 100+ applications are customer developed or are the subscription ones offered by Oracle?

Where to download Windows Live?

I dont think so the 2nd screen shot is actually same as on my N95. Because the contants in 'Download!' are changed always depend on diverse countries. I'm in Australia and have successfully installed Windows Live on to my N85 (and since uninstalled, but that's another story!!!).
Anyway, I was going to suggest that when you launch the Download! application, does it ask to refresh? If not, go to Options->Refresh List and Windows Live should appear in the main menu of Download! (it will be called Messenger). Failing that, try under Applications, which is where it was in my case. Also, check this link out:

Where Do Transcoded Assets Live?

Apologies if I've missed something very obvious, but where does Encore 2 place Transcoded assets on your system?
Is it within one cache folder or a folder specific to the project?
And can you then copy/archive these MPEG2/AC3? files somewhere else before Encore deletes them?
I've used Procoder in the past and am used to seeing the assets for myself!
Any pointers would be great.

Actually, the information lives in two places: the transcodes folder, as previously stated, and an associated entry in the media cache folder. Normally, this folder is stored under Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\adobe\common\media cache, but it's location can be changed. If you move the project to a different drive, or move the drive to another computer, you need to copy the information in the media cache to the other computer as well. If you don't, Encore will not know about any previously encoded assets, and you'll have to do them again.<br /><br />--skip

How can I get a representative to help me with my Apple ID when I live in China (where I don't speak or read the language) and I created it in Canada (where I used to live)?

I explained to Kavitha from the iTunes Store Customer Support the following information:
- my home country is Canada
- I am an English speaker
- I currently live in China, but I don't read or speak Chinese
- my Apple ID was created in Canada
- my husband bought me a new iPad last Sunday in China where we live
- I couldn't remember the answers to my security questions, so I followed Apple instructions to reset it by adding a rescue email address to my Apple ID
- I have received no email message in the inbox for my rescue email address as promised to help me reset my security questions for my Apple account
- I updated the email address for the Apple ID (the login) and, for some reason, my old Apple ID is still showing up on my new iPad when I try to sign in
- you told me to select the website of the country that I live in (which is China - I've already explained this) and therefore directed me to a Chinese website which I CANNOT read
- I was NOT asking Kavitha about how to change the language on my new iPad and she sent me an article about resolving that type of issue in error
- I can't choose Canada as my country because I don't live there ANYMORE and I don't have a Canadian phone number anymore
- I have a Chinese phone number because I LIVE in China

Only Apple Account Security could help at this point. You can try calling Apple Support in Canada - you'll have to find one of the several ways, such as Skype, to call an 800 number from outside of the relevant country - and ask for Account Security and see if they can help. Or you can find a friend who speaks Chinese and ask them to help you talk to Apple Support in China. There are really no other options that I know of.
Note, by the way, that these are user-to-user support forums. You aren't speaking with Apple when you post here.

Where is the "Application Support Folder"?

OK, apparently, I did something stupid.
I had both Master Collection CS4 and CS5 on my MacBook Pro. I decided to uninstall CS4. I did some research and did it the way I think I was supposed to. First, I deactivated it. Then I used the CS4 Uninstaller. So far so good.
But, when I boot us CS5, I get the following message:
"One or more files in the Adobe Applicatoin Support folder, necessary for running Photoshop, are missing. Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."
Here's where the stupid part comes in. I am on the road and, naturally, do not have the disks to reinstall my Master Collection.
However, here's the less stupid part. I do have a complete clone of the drive BEFORE I did the uninstall.
So, where can I find the Application Support Folder and can I just drag it over?

Anyone wishing to uninstall a previous version of Photoshop should do so BEFORE installing a newer version. Always.
That being said, I advice against uninstalling previous versions.

Where to place application classes to override shared calsses?

I use web application which requires to override some of shared classes. Where should I place these classes? It is necessary to override these classes in this application only. Placing it in WEB_INF/classes subdirectory inside web application folder has no effect. The only way I have found - to place these classes inside APPS subdirecory. But in this way all deployed applications will use these new classes. Can anyone help me?

Put these classes in WEB-INF/classes and enable dynamic reloading. To do that-
open krededit-> SOFTWARE-> iplanet-> Application Server->6.0->CCS0->SYSTEM_JAVA->Versioning and set it to 0. Bydefault it is 1, disabled. And restart the iAS to pickup this change.
Or, redeploy the application.

Multiple dispatch and Symmetric methods - Where Does That Code Live?

Hi all.
I am stuck with the above problem, which looks to be a very common and fundamental one. Supposing I have some sort of relation or operation to be performed on various different pairs (or n-tuples) of classes of object. Where does this code belong, given that it is not sole property of any one of the classes, but a kind of property of the collection of classes?
An bad example for me to bring up, but one that neatly illustrates the point, is the equals method. In order to retain the symmetric and transitive properties of the equals method, and object can only make judgement calls about it being equal to another object of it's own type. This prevents the concept of equivalency from crossing between types.
In order to compare a with b (if a and b are of different types), b must supply some sort of representation of itself as an a, then the comparison statement a.equals(b.asA()); must be called.
This of course means b must supply an 'asXXX()' method for each class XXX it wishes to equate itself to. Furthermore, by an extension of the equals contract for symmetricality, the method AsB() in class A (if it exists) must be such that, if a.AsB() .equals (b), then b.AsA.equals( a ).
This sort of design is unfeasible for obvious reasons, the main reason being that it is impossible to anticipate evey case where an instance of class A could reasonably be compared to an instance of some other class X.
The other annoyance is all that hard work of providing methods to equate A with something else, would go unused for 99% of the time.
With this in mind, I was thinking. Suppose in some program environment, we have only 3 classes, A, B, and C, such that:
{A,B} can be meaningfully compared
{B, C} and {A, C} cannot.
It would be OK to supply code (somewhere) for comparing A's with B's. We also know that under no circumstances will an A or a B, and a C, ever need to be compared for equality.
Supposing an extension of this environment were created, introducing class D.
{D, A} and {D, B} can be meaningfully compared.
Now, neither A nor C knows what a D is, or how to compare themselves to it. But D was developed with A, B and C in mind, and contains logic for the various comparisons (with A and with B). An obvious idea for this is to let D bring it's new code into play, by registering these new comparison functions in the environment somehow.
Supposing instead that equality comparison was delegated to some third party, instead. This third party contains a table of pairs of classes, which act as keys to look up a comparison object.
So, when class A is loaded, something of the sort happens:

}There is a problem with the above. As can clearly be seen, there are 3 unique situations that might occur between two classes (call them X and Y).
o One of X or Y contains code to compare them both.
o Neither X nor Y contain code to compare the two. X equals Y is always false
o Both X and Y contain code to compare the two.
The third causes the problem. What if X and Y disagree on how to compare themselves? Which method gets chosen? The only solution would be to let whosever static initialiser gets called first be the one to supply the code.
I said before that equals was a bad example to bring up. this is because the usage of equals and the concept of equality in java is already well defined, and works just fine. However, in my own pet project at the moment, I have run into the same problems as outlined above.
I am currently assembling a generic pattern API for use in various other applications I am writing (I was finding that I was writing code for matching objects to patterns, in different guises, quite frequently, so I made the decision to refactor it into its own package). An important part of the API is the section that handles the logic for combining patterns, ie with AND, OR and NOT operations.
The Pattern interface is this:

NotPattern<E> - a pattern that contains another pattern, and returns true for any E that returns does not match it's contained pattern. Used for when the contained pattern cannot be logically reduced to one pattern under the NOT method in the Pattern interface
AndPattern<E> - a pattern that contains 2 other patterns, and returns true for some E iff both contained patterns return true for that E. Used for when the 2 patterns cannot be logically reduced into one pattern via the AND method in the Pattern interface
OrPattern<E> - self explanatory
RangePattern<E extends Comparable <E>> - a pattern for comparing if some Comparable lies between two other comparables.
Every pattern has the opportunity to provide a reduction, when combined with another pattern through And or Or. For example, any pattern AND a FalsePattern can be reduced just the FalsePattern. any pattern OR a TruePattern can be reduced to just the TruePattern.
The methods AND and OR from the Pattern interface present the same problems as the .equals() example I was using before.
o AND and OR are symmetric operations
o There exist situations where two patterns of unrelated class could be meaningfully combined (and reduced) under these two operations.
Example: The pattern on Integers '0 < X < 3' and 'X is 5' can be reduce to the FalsePattern
Example: The pattern on Doubles '0 < X <= 10' or 'X is 5.5' or 'X is 7.2' can be reduced to '0 < X <= 10'.
Example: The pattern on Integers ('0 <= X <= 5' and 'X is not 0') or ('X is 6') or ('x is 7') can be reduced to '1<=X<=7'.
So the question is, where does the code belong? a.and(b) should return the same as b.and(a), but both b and a may well disagree as to what happens when they are combined under and. At present, both a and b need to supply their own separate implementations. Clearly though, the code for combining patterns A and B belongs to neither A alone, not B alone, but to A and B as a whole.

So the equivalent thing in my scenario would be an
AndAnator, and an OrAnator? :)
The thing is, it would be nice for comparison between
A and B to take place automatically, without the poor
coder having to maintain a reference to a Comparator
and invoke the comparison method each time. Likewise
in my situation, it'd be nice to say A.or(B) instead
of andAnator.and(A,B), yet have all the goodness of a
third party doing the comparison (or in this case,
the anding).
I am going to go and test this all out, but do you
have any suggestions on a good structure? I think it
would involve pulling the and/or/not methods from the
interface (this appeals, as many implementors may not
wish to supply logic for running these methods
anyhow), and then putting them... somewhere else.I didn't consider your speicifc problem very deeply because after such a long detailed explanation I figured you'd be up for kicking around the idea for a while.
In your case, I see that you would want to be able to call the and and or methods on the Objects themselves. Luckily, in this case, I think you can have your cake and eat it too.
You can make your and and or methods fa�ades to the third party 'referee'. This way you can enfore symmetry. It's difficult (if not impossible) to enoforce transitivity with this design but I think you don't even need that in this case. That is if a == b and b == c then a == c should be true but if a and b and b and c then a and c is not necessarily true. In your case, it may not even make sense.
