Where do the song title names come from?
i just bought a cd off ebay, one which i believe was manufactured by the person who sold it to me, because i don't think the album was ever released on cd, only in mp3 form.
anyway, i put the cd in, and instead of the correct track listing coming up on itunes, each track listing had been replaced by a title which insults the artist who made the album.
i'm trying to find out if these new, insulting track names were somehow encoded by the album seller who manufactured the cd, or whether the names were encoded into itunes library of track names which were then matched up with the code of the tracks on the cd when i put it into my computer.
anyone know whats up?
For CDs, iTunes does a query to the Gracenote database to get the track info. Since Gracenote is user-updatable, somebody apparently put bogus data in for that particular CD.
To correct the info, right-click the track, Get Info, go to the Info tab and type in the correct info.

So I have this file with songs from everywhere. I spent quite some time now to make sure that the structure of each file's name is as such : "Singer - Song name", hoping that everything would be read by iTunes accordingly. However, either iTunes read it well, or it didn't read it at all ("Singer - Song name" appearing in Title alone), or iTunes read the "media" of the file (ie. what the guy I downloaded it from wrote for it in the Preferences, which usually is in capital letters or with a bunch of weird underscores). As I'm OCD and need everything to be neat, I'm highly tensed right now. I really want everything to be neat and clear!
So, how do I make sure that iTunes reads the files' names such that it knows the structure is "Singer - Song name"? Thanks.iTunes doesn't use file names to determine how music appears in your library, Rather, it uses metadata that is split between:
data elements that are embedded within the media files
data elements that are included in the entries in the iTunes database
No amount of reorganization, renaming or other manipulation at the file level will make any difference to how songs will appear in iTunes. Using your example:
the value of the track number element is 1
the value of the artist element is "Elvis Presley"
the value of the song name element is "Blue Suede Shoes"
Depending on how you configure iTunes then the file name is either:
completely independent of iTunes (i.,e., the file containing this song could be xyz.mp3)
dependent on the metadata managed by iTunes, (i.e., when you have these two options set:
then iTunes will set the file name to be 1-01 Blue Suede Shoes.mp3 where:
the file is in a folder called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the album)
that folder is in one called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the artist) which is in iTunes Media\Music
Going back to your question "How to make iTunes read the song's name/singer from the file's name" the answer is simple - you can't, as this is not how iTunes works. There are some third-party utilities that you can use to set some metadata element values based on parsing of file names which might be a useful first step. However, to use iTunes effectively you should really forget about / ignore file names - manage your media using appropriate metadata and allow iTunes to look after file names behind the scenes. -

Where does the smiley Mac face come from?
Hi folks,
Forgive me if I have the wrong forum but I couldn't find a more appropriate one. A few times recently I have come back to my machine when I've left it with aMule running (an eMule file sharing app) and I've found a smiley Mac face on the bottom of my desktop, just under where the Widget icon appears in my dock.
This face then remains on top of any other window I open. If I reboot the machine it disappears but I am just very curious to hear if anyone can explain how or why it gets there?

I guess that's the best place to ask. I am assuming it must have something to do with aMule but I just wanted to check in case anyone else is familiar with this scenario and can explain it. It seems to be malign enough, but I am a little concerned as it would suggest that the fact that I've only granted access to my shared folder for public use, this does not prevent me from the possibility of receving some unwanted stuff elsewhere and I am therefore a little concerned I might be leaving myself open to more malicious actions?

I've configured a server instance in DEP and successfully enrolled an iPad with OTA Supervision using Casper 9.4. I cannot figure out where it got the Supervision Profile from, and why it correctly states the name of my school district. I did not upload it anywhere that I remember..

I was looking at an iPad that enrolled using the prestage settings but must have been supervised still from Configurator.. And the district name was slightly different than the DEP info! Confusion reigned at the end of my day..

I am trying to move only the song titles, art etc from a PC to my Mac.
My music is kept on a network drive which recently died. While I am waiting for a new one to arrive I've decided to use my Mac instead of the PC as the iTUNES controller but can't find a way to make the switch over work.
Drag the playlist from the left side of iTunes to the hard drive on the desktop.

Where do the graphics in templates come from?
I'm trying to use an existing template in Pages to create an invitation. It doesn't suit my needs but I'm trying to make it work. I don't want to purchase a template, though I've not even found anything affordable and appropriate in my searches.
Anyway, as a former PC user, I'm accustomed to being able to change a graphic in a pre-designed template. But I can't find a source for the graphics used in Pages anywhere on my iMac! I used to have thousands of 'clip art' images at my disposal. Is there nothing comparable on a Mac?I guess I should have tried your suggestion before responding. I cannot locating anything remotely similar to an image in the path you described. First of all, when I go to my 'applications' folder I hit a dead end at 'Pages08'. There is no pages 'folder' that contains these shared resources. I've searched 10 different ways, including a spotlight search on the file name in the original response. Can anyone give me another path or a suggestion for a spotlight search that would turn up this 'content' folder of shared resources?

I just transferred music from a desktop to a laptop to put on itunes. After this exhausting process of renaming and renaming unnamed tracks (b/c itunes made me rename them even after I rewrote the names in the music folder of my computer even though I hadn't put the songs onto itunes beforehand when the tracks were unnamed), when I play one on itunes the song title disappears and though the song plays, I have to AGAIN rewrite the name of the song. Is there an actually answer out there???!

i guess you are referring to iTunes Match. It sounds as though you haven't downloaded all the content and are trying to play your music over a poor connection. -
How do I get the song titles to appear when I burn a playlist from iTunes?
I burned a playlist from iTunes, and the song titles on the burned CD changed to Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, etc. How can I get the song titles to appear as they do in iTunes? Is this really too much to ask from the world's leading music player software?
If you are burning an audio CD, you cannot as audio CDs do not have track names. Nothing to do with Apple.

I used to be able to print labels for burned CDs with the cover being the playlist name and the other side the song titles...now the titles print out compacted, overlapping each other and illegible. I thought it was the printer but it happened w/1 other printer as well, which I used before for this exact thing w/no problem.
Try cleaning the print head with rubbing alcohol wipe, then replace your print head. Keep pushing the Ok.

I recently purchased songs from my iphone. All good... But I then went to put them on my ipod touch. They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour and there is a downlaod symbol in front of the song title. what do i do next?? They play on my iphone and from the itunes library but not from my ipod touch.
If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup. -
