Yes, as long as you do so within the 24/48 hour period.

If you don't watch a rented movie do you get your money back

No, no more than you would get your money back from Blockbuster if you rent a DVD from them but don't watch it.

  • HT1498 I have rented several movies from iTunes on my iPad, just bought apple tv, can I watch the rented movies from my iPad on the tv ?

I have an iPad and have rent several movies from iTunes, I have just bought apple tv, why can't I watch my rented movies on the tv, my home share is activated ? Have I just wasted £99 ?

    Hi,
Yes, start the movie on your iPad and tap on the AirPlay icon and chose AppleTV from the list.
You can't "transfert" your rental to your AppleTV but you can stream it using AirPlay.

  • HT1657 where do you watch the rented movie...cant find the play button????

Where do you view your rented films and how the **** do I play the bloody thing?

If you downloaded it on your Mac then it should be in the Movies part of your library - if you select that then is there a Rentals tab on it with that film in it ?

  • Do you need wi-fi to watch a rented movie?

I was wondering if you can watch a Rented movie ( off of the itunes store ) without wi-fi
or if you can ONLY watch a (rented)  movie WITH wi-fi

Yes, but you will need to download while you still have access to a network.

    You cannot.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you rent a movie on the Apple TV, then it can only be watched on the Apple TV. If you want to watch movies on multiple devices, you need to download it to your computer, where you can then transfer it to other devices or stream it to your Apple TV as well as watch it from your Mac.

  • HT1657 can i watch a rented movie where there is no wifi? like on a plane?

Can I watch a rented movie on my IPAD2 where there is no wifi? for example: download a rented movie at home then take it to an airplane and watch it.

As long as the film has been fully downloaded then you should be able to watch it whilst offline

  • I rented a movie on my iPad but cannot move it to my computer to watch on tv via Apple tv. How do I transfer the rented movie to my computer?

I rented a movie on my iPad but cannot move it to my computer to watch on tv via Apple tv. How do I transfer the rented movie to my computer?

I just rented a movie from my iPad2 and tried to play it through my ATV2 with AirPlay and same problem.... This is absurd guys. Apple I know there are copyright hoops to jump through but come on!! The whole pitch behind AirPlay and AppleTV was to make it easy to watch my purchases on my TV no matter what device they were on. Now I've got to hold my iPad in front of my face to watch a movie for nearly 3 hours!! And when I go to the support site I have no option other than to send an email to billing, screw this. I've not bought a DVD since I purchased my ATV2 over a year ago but if you guys are gonna pull this crap then what incentive do I have to continue the use of something that may or may not work the way it was advertised.
By the way, this is the first time I've had this problem because I normally rent straight off the ATV or my computer, which by the way I was considering replacing my PC with an iPad but looks like you guys aren't ready for me to make that kind of a switch.
Don't tell us that a product will do XY and Z then put limits on Y sending to Z.
    FIX THIS!!!

  • How many times can you watch a rented movie in iTunes?

Title describes the question. I'm thinking about either buying or renting a movie in iTunes, so question is how many times can you watch a rented movie? Just once? X times within a given timeframe? Thanks,

You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library. Happy movie watching!

  • HT1657 Hi, at the moment I can only seem to watch a rented movie once - previously I used to be able to watch it as many times as I liked during the 48hr window.  Anyone else have this problem?

Hi, at the moment I can only seem to watch a rented movie once - previously I used to be able to watch it as many times as I liked during the 48hr window.  Anyone else have this problem?

    This doesn't seem right.
I paid for a rental and downloaded an HD movie, Avatar. I could start watching within about a minute, it played without skipping a beat.
My wife started watching the movie the next night and got about half way through.
The next day, she tried watching the rest, and selected the film and clicked on "resume watching".
But instead of streaming and playing like it should, we got the spinning wheel of death followed by a message "Ready to play in 1 minute" which soon became "Ready to play in 2351 minutes"!
Additional information that I can add is that it was Sunday afternoon which is peak time for internet usage and I'd just exhausted my data allowance before the speed limiting kicks in. Basic internet using browsers at that time was really slow.
So it was as though the movie we were going to resume watching was going to be downloaded from the iTunes Store again, and since my connection had been speed limited, it was going to take forever. I thought you downloaded a rental to your hard drive and it deleted itself after it expired? So any subsequent streaming to AppleTV would be coming direct from your hard drive. It shouldn't have been affected by the speed of my internet connection at that time, surely. Anyone else experienced this?
Actually, I just noticed this post, I'm sure it's related...:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12398832&#12398832
