Where does applet.policy files go?

does any body know where to put applet.policy file? i am running
appache so i believe it should go under c:\webdocs\applet.policy
it it correct???
Please help

The include directory contains C language header (.h) files that may be linked with files in the lib directory. Those files are used by adadmin and adpatch (and some other ad utilities) to relink executable files which will be located under the $PRODUCT_TOP/bin directory. Please note that not all products require this directory.

  • Signed applets called from javascript - how/where to load policy file?

    I'm running into some apparently well-known problems with signed applets accessing a client machine's hard drive.
    So, I can get things to work if I place the following two lines in my 'local' JDK installation:
    permission java.io.FilePermission "${user.home}/x.properties", "read,write";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.home", "read";These let me a) read the user's home directory and b) read/write a file that's located there.
    What I don't want to do is edit the java.policy file, but I'm having problems loading a separate policy file. The app server we run with our product is jetty, and I'm assuming I would be passing in the '-Djava.security.policy=='filename' with the other jetty start-up parameters- is this a correct assumption? And, what path do I give for the file, will I need to put it somewhere in the .war file we distribute, or in the JDK installation on the server? If it's on the server, will client machine's know about these extra rights?
    I'd REALLY appreciate any help I could get on this...
    thanks in advance,
    +0^^

    Maybe you didn't realize but my previous post was sarcastically ment:
    "hello SUN security stop bugging me in writhing this malicious program"
    and
    "hello SUN security, I'm a good boy now trust what I'm doing"
    Are in a practical sense exactly the same.
    SUN should either remove the stack check or the doprivileged. The stack check takes up
    valuable resources for nothing since a malicious program can easily circumvent that.
    Your post about a malicious user abusing your (CA) signed applet to ruine someone's
    system is correct, it would not be difficult. A CA signed applet will not even ask a user to
    trust or not. This is one of the reasons we have the usepolicy in affect, but this cannot be
    used on "grandma's old PC" since it's too complicated for users to do such things.
    YOU seem to be the one to blame, not the hacker! (The user accepted YOUR
    certificate!).Actually you are to blame, because you made software that exposes a vonurability
    other people can take advantage of.
    what you can do before calling the doprivileged private method is check the call stack.
    So your signed applet has a public method checking the callstack, if this lookes OK
    that method will call the private doprivileged method.
    Here is the example
    package t;
    import java.util.Properties;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    public class test extends Applet {
             public test(){
                   startingPrivileged();
             public void startingPrivileged(){
                   System.out.println("this is the stack");
                   try{
                        throw new Exception("get the call stack");
                   }catch(Exception e){
                        StackTraceElement stack[] = e.getStackTrace();
                        for (int i=0; i<stack.length; i++) {
                             System.out.println("file: " + stack.getFileName() + " method: " + stack[i].getMethodName() + " class: " + stack[i].getClassName() + " at " + new Integer(i).toString());
                        // this is a really simple check to see if this method was started from the t. package
                        // a good hacker can just create it's own package named t and take advantage of this method
                        // if this method was started from the same package there is no reason to make this method
                        // public, protected would work.
                        // there must be a better way to check if this method was called by "your" or "trusted" code
                        if(stack[1].getClassName().startsWith("t.")){
                             dosomePrivileged();
              private void dosomePrivileged(){
                   System.out.println("this is the method that does privileged stuff");
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              new test();

  • Applets, Policy Files, jar signing, JNI, etc

    Hi,
    I need an Applet to be able to connect to sockets and use some JNI. Hence, as far as I can tell, I need to use a Policy File. In a standalone application, I have written my policy file tried it out by switching on the security manager. However I am not sure how I do this with an applet.
    I have read many examples of Jar signing, yet every example uses appletviewer and the -J-Djava.security.policy to show the security policy in action.
    However I want this to work through a normal browser, so how do I achieve this?
    Do I specify a URL to the java.security.file in the embed/object/applet tags in the HTML?
    Do I put the policy file in the jar and reference it via the Manifest?
    Any ideas much appreciated,
    John B

    The standard AccessControlException:
    java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission getClassLoader)
    at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(AccessControlContext.java:270)
    at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(AccessController.java:401)
    at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(SecurityManager.java:542)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.getParent(ClassLoader.java:701)
    Or something like that.
    That's what I'm trying to solve, I wish to use the Java Security Policy system to allow my applet access to various resources, such as writing files. Now I've seen that signing an applet will give it full access (in my view, this is rather insecure, but anyway), however following the steps to sign an applet two or three times has still presented me with the same problem. The signing is ignored, and the exception is thrown.
    Applet signing aside, I fail to see any documentation stating how the policy file is used by the VM when running on a browser. I assumed it might be an entry in the Jar's manifest file, but again, I can find no documentation.
    It's all very annoying, and Sun have done quite a bad job at documenting this. For example, their example talkes about -D-Jjava.security.policy=.... being passed to appletviewer. Who on earth uses appletviewer! If policies only work with that, then they are useless. I want them to work with whatever browser the applet is being run within.
    Surely this isn't too much to ask? :)

  • Where does PSE store files on a Mac

    I just installed PSE 10 on my MacBook. I had been using Iphoto'08 but when I bought a new camera, I wanted something more sophisticated both for organizing my photos and for editing and enhancing them.
    So far I installed PSE 10 successfully and have been playing with it. The Organizer works well and does what I want it to do. My intention is to use Organizer for new photos and leave the old ones on Iphoto for now. However, what I cannot work out is where PSE stores the files on the Mac after I work on them. It does not look like they are back in Iphoto as I have made changes to photos that are not reflected in there.
    Can anyone enlighten me on this?

    Just to clarify: Under normal circumstances the organizer is nothing but a database. It doesn't move/copy/etc anything, just makes a note of where it is. The one exception is when you use the From iPhoto command to import. In that case, organizer makes a duplicate to avoid writing into the iphoto library, which could easily make you lose all your photos.
    If you mean you have images in organizer and you want to find their physical location, right-click the image in question, choose Show Properties, and then you should see something like this:
    Where you can see the full file path next to the little folder icon.

  • Where does FCPX store files converted for YouTube etc?

    FCPX clearly does some kind of conversion/compression before uploading a video to YouTube.  I wondered where the resultant files were kept?

    I wondered too. So I shared something to Vimeo and it created a Shared Items folder inside the Final Cut Projects folder inside the folder for the project shared. The .mov file is in there.

  • Where does iMovie save files

    A friend uses iMovie (sorry, not sure which version) and saves his files onto a large external hard drive. However, he keeps getting messages that the hard drive on the computer is full cose to capacity. Does iMovie place backups, or any other files, on the computer's hard disc without you realising it? Is so, where are these files and can they safely be deleted?
    Any other ideas?
    Thannks

    The entire iMovie project is saved within the one project folder, the one with a star in the icon. This must be stored in the Movies Folder or, if on an external hard disk, one called that. Moreover the external hard disk must be connected by firewire.

  • Where does my Workspace file belong?

    For years, I have been using the same workspace by copying the file an pasting it in the workspaces folder in the Photoshop directory. Well, in CS5, that folder does not exist as far as I can find. So where can I paste my workspace file so the workspace switcher will see it?

    I know that, but I don't want to make a new work space every time I upgrade versions, or get a new computer. Originaly, I did just that, but was able to save the workspace to a location of my choice so it could be shared with others, or copied and pasted the file for use in future releases.  Where is that "new workspace" file created?

  • When I share a file to YouTube, where does the output file live? I want also to make a DVD. And is this a best practice or is there a better way?

    I want also to make a DVD, but can't see where the .mov files are.
    And is this a best practice or is there a better way to do this, such as with a master file?
    thanks,
    /john

    I would export to a file saved on your drive as h.264, same frame size. Then import that into youtube.
    I have never used FCP X to make a DVD but I assume that it will build the needed vob mpeg 2 source material for the disk.
      I used to use Toast & IDVD. Toast is great.
    To "see" the files created by FCP 10.1.1 for YouTube, rt. (control) click on the Library Icon in your Movies/show package contents/"project"/share.

  • Where does my backup files reside in windows

    I backed up my ipad (using iTunes) to my laptop (running Windows 7).  Where can I find the backup files?  Also, the ipad that I backed is no longer mine.  My wife has an iPad Air 2.  We want to get the content (especially the pics and videos) of the backup onto her iPad. Can we do this, even if the backup is from Tom's iPad, and my wifes ipad is Mary's iPad?

    You do not have the ability to pick and choose certain aspects of the backup file to restore to another device. A restore is either all or none. You can purchase 3rd party software to open a backup file and try to remove some parts of it. The backup files is a special SQLite file that needs special software to read. It is really intended just to use to restore an iOS device if necessary.  However, this support document will tell you where your backup file is located on the computer. Many of these are hidden files, so make sure you have the ability to view hidden files switched on. If you can't back up or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes - Apple Support

  • Where does Photoshop save files?

    I have Photoshop CS6 and I saved a copy of a file I edited.  Unfortunately, I thought it would save in the same folder it was in previously.  It saved it in a folder called fMroKMw4STeoEwnMnJeX6A.  I can't find any folder with that name on my IMac.  Can anyone tell me where this folder is?

    Better yet, open Photoshop and go to File > Recent Files  Open the one you edited, and ctrl-click (Mac) on its' tab and choose "reveal in Finder.
    The Finder window with your file should open up and you trace it from there.
    While you have it open, use File > Save As... to choose the location you want to save it in..
