Where does ARD get its "DNS Names" from?

I've been plagued with this for months now: Many of my ARD clients have bogus entries in the "DNS Name" column. Some of them are just previously used names (showing as "MacLab-02.local" when the computer is now named "MacLab-15", for example). And some of them are names that I have never actually assigned (showing as "maclab-124.local", when I've never used lower case or numbers that high).
No matter what I do, I can't seem to fix these. In the clients' Sharing prefpane, the correct .local name is showing. When I type "hostname" at the command line, the correct name shows. Using every method I've ever known to check the names, in fact, they'll show the right ones. Except in ARD.
So... where on earth is it picking up these names? How do I clear or fix that list?
Thanks!
john

That was never my intention (do some windows platform dependend registry stuff)
However i had a broken network entry in that specific part of the registry which chrashed my application. Now i can just delete it and my problem is gone :-)
Probably some uninstaller missed something or only partly removed it, or the entry was from some failed installation procedure - how knows?
Now it is working,
ToM
PS: Yeah some may point out (which is right) to do some good error checking/exception handling however since the app is already rolled out a proper bugfix needs time and this solution provides a quickfix to make it work instantly...

  • Where does Lion get its usernames? (former Linux user)

Just some minutes ago, I opened the lid of my Macbook and noticed that something was using the CPU for 50% continuously. When I opened Activity Monitor, the only two CPU-using processes were kernel_task and WindowsServer, but not enough to cover 50%.
Safari also wouldn't respond. Force-quitting worked, but starting it again would show the window but then result in a spinning beachball of death.
When I opened the terminal, the prompt said "I have no name!@macbook$ "
When I typed the command "id", it gave me a user ID (502) but no username!
After killing all apps and mucking about, the CPU suddenly went back to the normal 3-5% usage, and everything worked fine again.
Obviously, something went wrong with the process that does the user identification. As a former Linux user, I'd say the user data resides in /etc/passwd but that's not where it's at. Where does Lion get its usernames and passwords?

  • Where should I get my domain name from

where should I get my domain name from

Any domain hosting company will do the job... but some are better than others
I tend to keep all my domain purchases together from the one company (so I know that if another company sends me a domain renewal notice it's a scam without having to look up any records for the client).  Management tools and pricing policies differ greatly between companies - look for one that won't charge you extra to for access to modify your records yourself (some of the cheaper companies will sell you packages of email address and hosting and won't let you touch your own records).

  • Where does ARD get it's DNS information from? Wrong DNS name reported.

It's very strange...ARD is reporting a DNS name for one of my servers that has long been removed from my network. I can't figure out where it's pulling this info from? The servers real DNS name is not being reported at all. I know the IP this new server has is a recycled IP from an earlier server that may have had that DNS name associated with it but that was literally three years ago. How do I change this? Whenever I try to rename it manually it just flips right back.

    Hi  Rab1967 ,
    The first question :
The IP addresses are from host records .The name of the record is the domain name(In the zone ,the name is displayed as “ same as parent folder “ .) .
    The second question :
When we type characters in nslookup ,it will query for host records by default .To see the settings of nslookup ,type
    set all .
For detailed process of the query ,we can use debug mode of nslookup .
    To enter debug mode ,type
nslookup and then type set d2 .
Here is the guide for using nslookup :

  • Where does GridBagLayout get its name?

I know this is an off-the-wall question, but it sort of bugs me. I get the "Grid" part and the "Layout" part, but what does the syllable "Bag" have to do with anything?
Just your luck to read a post by an obsessive personality ;)

I think its a typo. It should be GridBadLayout.
Seriously though, its probably because you have a bag of constraints, and the only way to use them properly is to put you hand in and hope you get what you want...

  • Where does Motion get it's fonts from?

    Hi,
I have a font showing up in Motion that I don't have in my Font Book. Where could Motion be getting it from?
    Thanks

    I just found it.
I did a clean install, (before upgrading) saved some of my stuff on another hard-drive and Motion was referencing that font folder copied from my old OS.
So it actually worked out because I was going to delete my copied old hard-drive info soon. Now I was able to grab the font and install it in font book.
I am just surprised that Motion went to another hard drive other than the one that the OS is on.

  • Where does Mail gets its addresses?

This isn't a trick question. A friend's email starts with his initials. I've typed it many times. But now, when I type those three letters, instead of one of his two email addresses, I just get To: three letters. No @, no nothing else.
I would like to find, and delete, that three-letter designation, but I can't find it anywhere.

You can find it in Mail > Window > previous recipients. In the new window will be a list that you can remove any unwanted email addresses. The icon next to the name indicates it's in your address book.

Where does Mail keep its hidden cache of auto-complete email addresses.  I am plagued with an incorrect email address I can't get rid of.  Have made sure it's deleted from Contacts and made sure it's deleted from "Previous Recipients" list in Mail.  But it still keeps reappearing ... obviously a secret cache file hidden somewhere?

Autocomplete has nothing to do with this problem.
From the Mail menu bar, select
              Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for a disused SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

  • Where does apex get user details from for login in

sorry for this stupid question. I have been looking up in google "where does apex get user details from for login in" and nothing answers my question. Basically I wanted to know when you log in your application how does apex know you have access to this application. How does it know you are a valid user because I am creating an application which basically checks if a user exist in one database and also checks if he/she exist in the second database.
Thanks you and sorry if this is very newbie

In the page 101 which is the login in page in the login in process. I have this in the source its not working in term of it is not letting me login in anymore even though I exist in the user table.

  • How to get the user name from Single Sign On Process?

    Post Author: sasikumar
    CA Forum: Authentication
I am loging in Single Sign On Page. Then it goes to one JSP which lists out some links including InfoView link. While clicking InfoView link, I need to pass user name with the url for authentication. How and where can I get the user name?

Care to be more specific what you mean with single sign-on? There are numerous ways this can be done.
Just how you get the authenticated o/s user from within an Oracle session, depends on just how the actual authentication to Oracle was done in order to create that Oracle session.
E.g. dealing in Oracle with a LDAP server is very different than dealing with a NT Primary/Secondary Domain Controller using o/s authentication, than dealing with a Java-based application server that does it own thing, etc.

If yes how do I transfer SAP office documents storage from table SOFFCONT1 (default) to external content server.
Now If its a sap office document I have refereed this [link|Re: Generic Object Services]
and when I go to change storage catagory and change document area in transaction OACT to document management system it gives me prompt Repository SOFFDB does not have an explicit document area.
Please clarify over above two points.

  • How to get Universe Long Name from DataProvider from BO SDK Web XI R3

In BO 6.5 I was able to query the repository using an Oracle query to get details about the classes, property(s) and property data value(s). I'm using the following query:
    SELECT DISTINCT u.uni_longname, c.cls_name, p.prp_name, p.property_id,
                    d.prp_datavalue
               FROM unv_universe@PRBA u,
                    unv_class@PRBA c,
                    unv_property@PRBA p,
                    unv_prop_data@PRBA d
              WHERE c.universe_id = u.universe_id
                AND c.universe_id = p.universe_id
                AND c.class_id = p.class_id
                AND p.universe_id = d.universe_id
                AND p.property_id = d.property_id
                AND d.prp_datatype = 'W'
           ORDER BY 1, 2
where PRBA is our BO oracle repository. It would return the following, though I get multiple rows for this query, I am pasting one row only
    UNI_LONGNAME          CLS_NAME            PRP_NAME               PROPERTY_ID      PRP_DATAVALUE
Accounting Universe   Account Details     Account Option     15                      ACCT.ACCT_ID  IN  @Prompt('ACCOUNT_OPTION','N', ['Account Details\Account ID'],multi, free)
I'm wondering what is the equivalent methods/objects using BO Java SDK in Webi XI R3 to get the same information. I use the above information to delete the prompts for which user has not provided a value.
Also I need to know, Is it possible to get Univers Long Name from DataProivder, then from Univers Long Name, will I be able to get the above Records Set? Is this possible in BO SDK Webi XI R3?
My requirement is, I have BO Prompts and I need to remove certain prompts which are not supplied by the User, for example if I need to remove ACCOUNT_OPTION, I iterate the record set, as long as ACCOUNT_OPTION is there in PRP_DATAVALUE then I would remove the Filter Condition. Can anyone help me out on this? Rightnow This is a show stopper for me.
    Thanks

Thanks for your reply, NO Java SDK means, what is it not possible? and what is possible through COM SDK?
my requirement is, I need to remove certain Filter condition for a DataProvider, for example, ACCOUNT_OPTION is the name of the field, but through JAVA SDK, I am getting Account Option ,
I have been trying the below code, Can anyone help me out what am I doing wrong? I could not go further.
ACTXTRACTCon is my list of arrays, these prompts have to be removed from BO Prompts. Although I wanted to post my entire code, for some reason I could not embed the code. This code may have some compilation errors.
