Where does Firefox 3.6.10 store tab and history?

I am running Firefox 3.6.10 under Windows XP, the latter fully updated. However, I keep my Firefox profile on a D: drive, so that it is unaffected by an operating system reinstall or other modification affecting the C: drive.
I have recently suffered several Firefox crashes, most seemingly caused by Firefox or add-on updates (I have now disabled automatic updates for everything). But the most recent crash was caused by my laptop's battery expiring. In all these cases restarting Firefox produced a "welcome" startup screen (my personal settings in Options specify a blank screen), and the loss of both saved tabs and history.
After trying various ideas to recover the lost data, to no avail, I resorted to restoring the whole of my C: drive (using 3rd party software, not Windows's lousy backup facility). On then starting Firefox, lo and behold! the tabs and history were restored to the situation at the latest backup date.
My understanding is that tabs and history data used to be stored in the Profiles\sessionstore.js and Profiles\places.sqlite locations respectively. Interestingly, while it is asserted that Profiles\places.sqlite contains both history and bookmarks data, although I lose the history, I do not lose the bookmarks!
When I end a Firefox session, saving the modified tabs configuration, and any modifiied bookmarks, I find that the sizes and dates of the Profiles\sessionstore.js and Profiles\places.sqlite are unchanged. Yet when I restart Firefox the updated tabs and history are recovered!
From all of the above, I conclude that, at least for me, Firefox has stopped saving tabs and history data in the Profile folder, and instead has started saving it somewhere else on the C: drive. This is, of course, most unsatisfactory, as my whole purpose in putting the Profile folder on the D: drive was to prevent it from being corrupted by the vagaries of Windows. So, can anybody enlighten me as to what may be happening in my case, and how I might be able to recover the lost information without the drastic remedy of restoration of the whole C: drive from a backup facility (which is too disk space-consuming to deploy more than monthly)?
(By the way, I am aware of the facility to save the tabs under Bookmarks, but that is not a satisfactory solution; and anyway, the history issue remains unresolved.)

You can use this to find the location of the Firefox Profile Folder

The size of place.sqlite doesn't change if items are added or removed unless there is no empty space to add new items. 
The size of sessionstore.js should change, but you may not notice it if you only see a size in KB and not in bytes.
If places.sqlite is missing then Firefox will try to restore the bookmarks from a .JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Firefox saves downloads to wherever you specify. Check your settings in Tools > Options > General, Download section. If you have it set to "Always ask me where to save files", then only you know where they were saved.

Where does firefox get the icons for a web page from to display the page in the aps tab

I notice some web pages when pinned to the apps tab have an icon that reflects their organistation and others just have a blank page Icon. Where does firefox read the icon from i would like to know so when i do a web page I can include an icon

Where does firefox cache the form parameters to be used in the reload event of a page that was the resposne of a HTTP POST request?

Suppose there is form in a web page and it submits data in HTTP POST method. After submitting the form, if I reload the page [either by the refresh button or back button; whichever applicable], firefox asks permission to resend the form data by saying "To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action...". Now if the user clicks on the resend, firefox resubmits the form data.
So where does firefox store this from data for such future resending/resubmission?
Is it possible to retrieve/manipulate those stored form data?

I thought I'd tried that, as tried lots of other things like encoding URL, but obviously not as this works.

Where does FireFox get the default value of a preference from. What is the format of the file that has the default value?. I need the actual default value for a particualr preference.
About:config does show some default values but I need the source from which about:config picks up the default value.
Any help in this direction is greatly appreciated.

Almost. You have to highlite the offending entry
and then HOLD down the Shift Key and then
hit the Delete Key. I found this answer that
works by searching on the web which led me

Where does Firefox cache videos? (I checked the Cache foler. Not there)

The FireFox' disk cache foler is set to ''D:\Cache'' (I set it so from about:config).
I cleared the disk cache, watched a YouTube video (almost 2 minute long), then looked into ''D:\Cache''. But the video I had watched was not there! (I found two .SWF files. But their sizes were smaller than 250K. And, stand-alone SWF players couldn't play them. Therefore, they can't be YouTube videos.)

Firefox doesn't cache videos on disk. The Flash player that plays the videos is in the cache, but the videos are streamed and not saved. They may be kept in the memory cache during the play.
You can check the cache on the about:cache page.

Make sure that you do not use [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History Clear Recent History] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
Also please make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custome settings for history. Uncheck "Always use permanent Private Browsing mode"

Root certificates are stored in the file nssckbi.dll and if you've disabled build-in root certificates then it is possible that they get re-enabled. There is however no reason to disable any of the build-in root certificates.
Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates > View Certificates : Authorities

My Tabs and History sync just fine, but my Bookmarks do not

I am using Firefox Home on both my iPhone4 and iPad2. I have refreshed the data, and have re-input the sync properties, but I still don't get my Bookmarks. Tabs and History are working just fine. Help!

Where does iPhoto 9 iLife 11 store the original images

Hi, where does iPhoto 9.4.3 (under OS 10.7) store my original photos?
I used to be able to drag out a copy of my originals from iphoto.app (show package contents), but now it doesn't seem to be there or is otherwise hidden.
I reviewed some long confusing threads on this...
I don't need further debates to confuse the answer to this simple question...
I just want to find the iphoto images folder so I can drag and drop a copy for backup.
If you know how to navigate to the originals images under 10.7, ilife 11 -- please let me know.

By default the images are stored in the iPhoto Library, in your Pictures Folder.
You do not drag them out for back up.
Use the File -> Export command. In the resulting dialogue set the Kind to Original and that will yield an exact copy of the original file to back up.
To back up the Library - that is, original images plus all the work you've done - edits, metadata, albums etc:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

Firefox can't forget a tab; clear history never blank.

Hello. My Firefox browser is patched to latest version; the problem is that Firefox can't forget one specific tab. Whenever I clear all history it asks about that tab on next start. Cleaning with Auslogics Browser Care doesn't help at all. Though, it cleans history, but the problem remains - that old tab that can't be forgotten by my Firefox. I was thinking of reinstalling my Firefox browser, but I don't want to set up all the parameters again... it's the least thing to do for me. If you know how to fix it, please help. It's a blank tab. Firefox browser can't forget it nor erase it to the hell out forever. It's stuck. How to fix it - I simply don't know.......... :(

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

What happened to Firefox - I suddenly lost my tab and toolbar settings and it is now an unrecognizable mess that is very slow.

Firefox should give warning to its users so that vital information can be saved before updating their tab system.+

Firefox should not lose your open tabs when it updates. (That is not to say it always succeeds)
I know Firefox will sometimes remove stored open tabs with updates, and I think Firefox 29 itself had a particular issue with the open tabs.

Although Firefox will do nothing to warn you what features change, note that the Beta release is six weeks earlier and will give you a very good indication of what will be in the Release.
