Where does Internet Connect store its preferences?

I've managed to mess up my Internet Connect settings (which used to work fine, with VPNs etc. etc.). Fortunately I have a complete mirror backup of my disk from before this problem. I don't want to do a full restore; does anyone know if there's a file that stores the Internet Connect preferences and settings that I can just copy over?

Hi Michael!
Maybe
HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences: com.apple.internetconnect.plist this one?

This sounds like a job for ~/Library/Preferences. And indeed, I have some files there with likely looking names, such as,
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist
I don't know if these are the ones you need to recover. You could check there modified dates using Get Info; if the date(s) are about when you messed things up that would suggest maybe they are.

  • Where does Acrobat Reader store its print preferences?

I'm trying to print a file directly with no human interaction using Acrobat Reader. To do such, I'm using the command line arguments "acrord32.exe /t filename \\printerlocation\printer".
Printing works just fine except for one detail: some of my pdf files need printing with "Auto Rotate and Center" checked and "Page Scaling" to "None", while others need "Auto Rotate and Center" unchecked and "Page Scaling" to "Fit to Printable Area"...
I've realised that Acrobat Reader stores its last selected preferences (if you close Acrobat and re-open it, these two settings are still set as they were the last time you closed Acrobat) but the question is... where?!
I've noticed the bprintAutoRotate and the bprintExpandToFit keys in the registry under (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\AVGeneral) and they even change their values whenever I change the options in Reader and close the application, but changing them through my application seems to have no effect - I see the values changing in the registry but Acrobat still prints (and displays if I open the print preferences dialog) the last settings it had memorized before I changed them in my application...
Is there any other location where Acrobat stores these printing preferences? Is there a way to change these settings through the windows registry or any other configuration file(s)?!
By the way, I'm using Acrobat Reader 8.1.3.
    Thanks in advance

  • Where does the dock store its data

  • Where does Elements 10 store its catelog file

I had 32gb on my mac hard disk. I asked elements 10 organiser to catelog my 10,000 photos. It ran through the process then aborted at the end. I have uninstalled Elements but I still have "lost" a load of disk space. I am thinking my organiser photo file is somewhere on my disk still ? Does anyone know where it is stored ? Thanks.

The catalog shouldn't take up that much space unless you imported from iphoto, in which case your photos were all copied and in that case it's the copies, not catalog itself, that are taking up space. The actual catalog file location can be found by going to Help>System info in the organizer.

  • Where does address book store its addresses?

I have tried to do an 'archive install' of 10.5.4, then up to 10.5.8 after having installed snow leopard (10.6.2) and stupidly assumed that my addresses (and calendar in iCal) would be there somewhere or in my backed up libraries on external HD...
but cannot find a trace...any kind person know where they would be?

It affects decision to upgrade to SL, because once you do it (a) you probably need to give it a 2 month run to test it fully (b) by then pre-upgrade info is getting a bit out of date (c) a return to 10.5 seems difficult without loss of information if, as I am experiencing, the 'previous system' folder does not contain any information added during the 10.6 trial period.
It COULD BE that IF I had had a time machine or used other software to make a full-off computer back up from 10.6 that would be readable by 10.5, there would be no problem. But I would need a report from someone who has actually done this successfully to be convinced.
I am actually finding more and more problems, eg at present I cannot send email, though for a while I was receiving it perfectly well, I think maybe because I HAD to feed in new information 'blind' before I could get access to Mail at all and it is now nearly impossible to correct the anomaly - but that is a Mail question which I am probably about to post

  • When I transfer photos from my camera to my computer, where does the computer store them?

When I transfer photos from my camera to my computer, where does the computer store them?

Assuming you're using iPhoto 09 or later.
By default the photos are stored in the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.
The iPhoto Library is a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. This is a simple protection from users inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Want to look inside?  Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things,, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
As an FYI: There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Where does Bridge CS5 store the metadata files?

Where does Bridge CS5 store the metadata files that are created under the Tools menu?  I moved CS5 from one drive to another on my Mac Pro and lost all of them.  I'd like to recover them is possible.

    Yikes!

…I moved CS5 from one drive to another on my Mac Pro…
First of all, all Adobe applications really need to be installed and reside permanently on your boot volume, i.e. the same volume where your OS resides.  There will be endless grief if you install the applications elsewhere.
Secondly, I hope by "moved" you mean that you deactivated CS5 and then used the Adobe Uninstaller to uninstall CS5, then re-installed CS5 from the original media, from scratch, and not just drag-copied the Application folder.  And hopefully there's an OS installation on that other drive that will allow you to boot off that drive.
Third, you need to refer to your preferences in Bridge as you set them to find out whether you were keeping the cache in distributed folders or were using the central database, whether you were using separate xmp sidecar files, whether you had Export Cache to Distributed Folders set in Bridge preferences, etc..

  • Where does Snow Leopard store iTunes Music

    Greetings,
I wanted to get a clean start for my iTunes Library.
First, I deleted my iTunes folder in Documents into the trash and then emptied the Trash. Second, I deleted the iTunes app.
I went to iTunes and downloaded a new iTunes application. After it was installed the entire iTunes music library was there when I opened my new download of the iTunes Application.
Where did it come from if I deleted my iTunes folder thinking I was deleting all of my downloaded songs?
So my question is where does Snow Leopard store these songs? I assumed they would be gone so I could begin to put in new albums in my iTunes.
Thanks in advance for your help and support.
    Leigh

You can find out or change where the actual songs are by opening iTunes/Preferences/Advanced (I'm still on iTunes 8 so I apologize if your menu looks different). Click my link below. The yellow highlight is mine.

  • Where does OS X store previous display configuration data?

    Dear forum,
Where does OS X store the configuration data regarding external displays? My settings are screwed up and I think that if I remove my configuration and let it discover my display as though it was the first time, it may work. Right now when I plug in my dongle, OS X sees it and goes into dual-display mode, but my big monitor (the primary one) never wakes up.
I have tested my PowerBook with other displays using the same cables and DVI/VGA dongle, and it all works swimmingly. My display works with my other laptop (which is a Windows box, so perhaps my mac smells another computer and is throwing a jealous fit).
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello Gabe:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Preferences are stored in "plist" files. Do a "find" on 'plist.' All of the preference files will be displayed (typically several hundred). You can hunt through those to see if you see the one you reference. You can safely trash a preference file. OS X rebuilds them as needed (you do have to reenter your personal preferences).

  • Where does Word pick up colour preferences from when printing to a pdf?

Hi there, I work in a studio with a dozen Macs. We do a lot of bid and tender work creating high volumes of pdf documents from Word.
The issue is that even when using the same process to create a pdf from different machines (Command-P, then the pdf drop-down to 'save as pdf') the colours print differently depending on which machine the pdf was created on.
Can you tell me where the machine picks up its preferences to create a pdf from Word so we can ensure each machine is the same?

Print > Adobe PDF Printer would invoke the Preferences for the Adobe PDF printer
From the Control Panel and/or Printers and Faxes, select the Properties for the Adobe PDF printer
I surprised myself by selecting (right click) Printing Preferences first and then (right click) selecting Properties > Advanced > Preferences; I have different options enabled in the screen shot below.

Where does time machine store content that would be found in the Finder window under "All Images, All Movies, All Documents"? Also, I have many Garageband projects and mp3 files I can't find.

Easiest way to find time machine files is to open up the folder or application(works for email and iphoto)  they were in - then click on time machine ICON or enter time machine from the time machine menu to go back through the files.

  • Where does Front Row get its list of Videos?

Where does Front Row get its list of Videos? And how do I purge this list? Front Row is listing Videos that no longer exist on my computer and when selected do nothing.
I tried by trashing my prefs, but the same missing files are still in the list.

ok, worked on it a little bit more... the only thing left was an entry in the library file, when you opened the xml file in safari you could find the entry. I didn't dare playing around with the file itself, but found a script called: "super remove dead tracks" on this website, which does the trick: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts01.php?page=1#removedeadsuper
it worked great, nothing is showing up in front row any.

  • Where does DW CS5 store FTP and other data in W7

My computer self destructed the boot sectors of it's system disc. I managed to get a clever chap to rescue all the app data and have managed to get back all my browserss book marks, pass words etc.
My next stap is to try and get back all my presets and FTP data for all my client's web sites in dreamweaver, without all the pain and grief of reloading it all manually.
So - where does Dreamweaver CS5 store all the site data etc on a Windows 7 (64bit) machine?
    Many thanks

The only way to retrieve site definitions is from previously exported .ste files.
To backup, go to Sites > Manage Sites > Export...
To recover, go to Sites > Manage Sites > Import > browse to .ste files on your hard disk, local site folders or removable flash drive.
If you didn't backup your site definition settings to a safe place,  I'm afraid you'll need to manually input this info again.
