Where does iTunes store iPod Settings?

For podcasts, I can set when to check for new episodes, rules that determine which episodes to download, and rules to determine which episodes to keep.  Where are these rules stored?  I am wondering if they will be migrated along with the iTunes user's profile folder when I migrate from one computer to another.
I tried to search for clue as to where the podcast settings are stored by looking at likely files with a text editor.  Unfortunately, I can only look at text files with this approach.  I found and checked the following files (none of them seem to contain Podcast Settings):
c:/Documents and Settings/USER/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml
Lots of decipherable detail here, but nothing corresponding to the iPod Settings I mentioned
c:/Documents and Settings/USER/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iTunesPrefs.xml
A indecipherable whack of text that seems to be used to encode binary information
c:/Documents and Settings/USER/Local Settings/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iTunesPrefs.xml
A indecipherable whack of text, different from the one above   Other files in this directory which don't contain Podcast Settings:
iPodDevices.xml
goog-phish-shavar.{dat,db}

Look in the folder Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates of the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.

  • Where does ITunes store my apps on my PC?

Does ITunes store my downloaded and/or purchased apps locally on my PC? My SSD hd was filling up so I moved all the directories from the C:\...Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup directory to my D: hd and now I'm having a problem getting apps to restore to my IPod that I had to wipe clean and do a restore on. So, I need to know if I moved those apps or what.
Also, is there a way to re-download those apps back to my PC if I did move them?
I need to get this IPod restored back to my ITunes account so all my apps will be associated back with this IPod.

iTunes playlists are stored within the library database iTunes Library.itl. Perhaps you need to create a m3u playlist for use with your other software. Right-click on the playlist name in the sidebar for export options.
Or use iTunes to manage the content on the device in the way that it is designed to.

  • HT201272 Where does iTunes store purchased audiobooks?

I have purchased audiobooks from the iTunes store.  They are on my Mac, but I can't find them in iTunes to listen to on my devices.  When I click on "purchased," my choices are music (no audio books listed), movies, and TV shows.  If I go through iBooks, I can find only my books in text.  Do you have any advice?

Audiobooks are a one-time only download, so they only way to get them onto a different computer or device is by syncing or transferring them (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases should copy them from a device to your computer's iTunes). As well as the films and TV programmes that you say that you back up you should also back up any music and apps that you download as there is no guarantee that any item will remain in the store for future redownloading (content providers occasionally remove them) - and with apps there is also the potential issue of an app being updated in the store and then requiring a higher iOS version that your device(s) support, so you would need to keep a compatible version.

  • Where does iTunes store the custom EQ settings on my hard drive? (OSX 10.6)

Bought a new Mac. I moved over my iTunes library via export and then import. The songs are on an external drive. Everything went perfectly... except for my custom EQ settings.
The songs still have the custom EQs, but the equalizer itself doesn't have those settings anymore.
For example: for quiet songs, I have a custom EQ called "+6" that boosts the overall volume by 6db (far left EQ slider). If I click Get Info on a song with that custom EQ, I can see that it's still there (in the song's info, I mean), but the EQ itself is missing all of my custom EQs.
I have a full backup of my previous hard drive (not to mention that I still have the old Mac). Where can I find those EQ settings? Surely they're in a file somewhere, right?

The last time I did a clean install of Windows on my PC, I backed up the entire iTunes folder on a separate HD partition. After reinstalling iTunes, I copied the iTunes folder back to the C drive and all of the many EQ presets I had created were restored, along with the music. That was in late 2011. I came to the conclusion that this was how you back up the custom EQ settings.
I guess I made a mistake by assuming it would work again this time. Did I? I repeated the process today when I reinstalled Windows, and all the presets I had created did not get restored and now seem to be gone... Is there any way to recover them?
I spent a lot of time tweaking the different frequencies to get them just right and hope to not have to repeat that process.
All of the settings were created using the custom presets, and not on individual MP3 tracks themselves.
    (iTunes version just installed: 11.0.2.26)

  • HT1414 where does Itunes store previous backups in a Windows 8 environment

I'm trying to restore from a previous back up and I used to be able to locate them in Vista - but I haven't been able to find all the previous backups in Windows 8

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946
The folder where your backup data are stored varies depending on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your periodic data-backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.

  • Where does itunes store my playlists on my pc,I can locate my itunes media which contains all the albums and artists but not my playlists?

Im a bit of a tech dummy and am trying to add a playlist to an iphone that is NOT synced with my itunes account, with ipod/ipad this is simple as I can manually manage content, however this feature doesn't work on iphone. I have a program installed which allows me to add to the iphone however I need to add directly from the itunes folder not within itunes. I have created a playlist in itunes to add to this device however I can not locate this folder in my itunes files!! I'm sure I am missing something simple here

  • Where does iTunes store files created by their OneStep DVD process?

I can't seem to find them anywhere.

I'll assume you mean iDvd as opposed to iTunes (otherwise this question makes no sense).
This is simply an educated guess-I suspect most if not all of the files used in a one step Dvd process are for the most part temporary files.
However, once the dvd is burned to dvd-r and your mac or the app is restarted, it clears your macs memory of these short term files and the HD space is once again made available for yet another iDvd project; that is once the computer is fully restarted.

  • Where does iTunes 7 keep the iPod software?

    Hi All,
I work in technical support and am a bit let down by the current embedded iPod updater in iTunes 7. This works ok except for one thing, after downloading the latest iPod updater from within iTunes 7, i want to transfer the updater to various machines. Searching the libraries came up with nada. Only once i opened up the iTunes 7 package did i find "iPodUpdater.framework" in contents. It also appears that a different updater is downloaded for each model of iPod as opposed to the old stand-alone all-in-one iPod updater. So, Where does iTunes 7 keep the iPod software? We are very bandwidth challenged in my country so it is very handy to be able to keep the latest updates on an external drive, usb disk, etc.
While the embedded updater is nice and clever i think a bit more needs to be done, maybe put it into the Application Support Folder or something?
    Thank you in advance

    Thanx for your reply SeaBeast.
Erm, ok maybe I'm not being clear.
Pre iTunes7: iPod's were updated using the iPod updater application located in /Applications/Utilities. This could be downloaded as a standalone app and showed up in software updater when updating of the app was required. Easy.
iTunes7:iPod updater is now part of iTunes. Updates are downloaded from within iTunes ( iPod model specific it seems ) and sometimes it has to be forced to update, see
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060912144151766
Where does it keep these downloaded updates?
Does it modify the existing "iPod Updater 2006-06-28.app"?
To my knowledge it is now seperate from this. If it was still seperate i could download it from Apple as a stand-alone but as far as i can see this is no longer the case. Please help. Maybe I'm just being a ******* and missing something simple here.
    Thanx again.

  • Where does iTunes 11 on Mac OS X store backup files?

I am running Mac OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 11. Where does iTunes 11 store the backup files for iPhone, iPad, etc? I have looked for a directory ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ -- the MobileSync directory does not exsist and I am looking at all hidden files as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Paul

Make sure you are pointing to the right folder wich is in the home directory:
    i.e: "$HOME/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup"
    Where "$HOME" stands for "/Users/YourUserName"
There is another "Library" folder in the "Macintosh HD" disk
and this one is a non-hidden folder when the one in "/Users/YourUserName" is indeed hidden. This is probably where the confusion comes from (happened to me...)
    Gilles.

  • HT3842 Does iTunes store the original music file and copy it into a separate folder? If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library?

Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?
    Which is best ?

    DrewPowell wrote:

It does both at the same time.
When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
Then there are no "extra" files around.

    Mac:
    Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows:

(Note you may need to turn on show hidden files and folders to see it on Windows)
As far as I know, you can't change it.
