  • Where does iWeb save the site file?

Sorry guys but this is a lazy man's question.
Where does iWeb save the site file when you click the save button?
Is it saved as a seperate file or is it hidden within the program?
I not talking about publishing it.

Yes there is...I'll refer you to Apple's own technote...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303670
But you probably don't want to keep it on your iDisk. The file could be huge and the back and forth network bandwidth involved may make iWeb opens and saves unbearably slow. I've always recommended one of those cheap USB flash drives to keep a potable Domain file on.
Has this been "helpful" to you?

  • Where does iWeb save the contents of my website now that iDisk is not available?

With the latest change to iCloud and iDisk not available anymore, where does iWeb save the contents of websites?
I looked for the files undel Library/Application Support/....but could not find the iWeb folder.
    Any ideas please?
    Thank you.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • I closed about 60 tabs when working on my wife's computer. How can I restore the tabs again? Where does FF save the lists of urls? This is extremely urgent - can save my marriage! Thanks.

This was done on FF6.0 running XP

You can restore a closed window -- don't know about 60 tabs removed from a window. Use "Alt" to bring up the Menu bar (if hidden), then click on History, then Restore windows then select windows to restore and / or tabs to restore.
You can bookmark all of the open tabs by right click on a tab then "Bookmark all tabs" will be grayed out if only one tab, and in FF 6.0 does bookmark the app-tabs. App-tabs should already be bookmarked by you anyway so they can can be restored.
If you fail to bring back the tabs, use the History Sidebar ("Ctrl+H"), they are not in the history on the basis of last open though so if they've been open for several days you may have a hard time finding what was lost. The "View" single menu item at the top of the History sidebar allows for various ordering, but you may wish to the the History Library List instead ("Ctrl+Shift+H").

Where does pacman store the downloaded stuff?
How do I get rid of them?

    /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    pacman -Sc  or pacman -Scc

  • Where does PSE8 save the serial number?

I have three iMacs at home, but I only use two of them since the first one is broken. I had PSE8 installed on the iMacs, and during the summer bought CS5. Since I didn't need to use PSE8 on this iMac, I deinstalled it by dragging it to the trash can. Then about a month ago I purchased another new iMac, and installed PSE8 on it.
When I try to use PSE8 on the newest iMac a dialog box appears on the screen indicating that I have to either buy a new serial number, or deactivate PSE8 in one of the three iMacs, because I already have the serial number in three computers. My question is as follows:
Where in my iMac (the one I use with CS5) can I find the PSE8 serial number so I can drag it to the trash? I looked in the Library/Preferences folder and noticed that there are still a few PSE8 files left behind, but have no idea which one contains the serial number. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

I apologize for posting on the wrong forum.
The problem with the activation/deactivation of PSE8 was solved, but first I will explain in detail what the problem was since all Adobe applications go through the same process (serial number activation/deactivation).
ORIGINAL PROBLEM: I had installed PSE8 twice and then deinstalled it at later dates. However, deinstalling an Adobe application does not deactivate the serial number (this number is left behind somewhere in the system along a few other files). So, I installed CS5 on this iMac a few months ago, and got rid of PSE8. Then a few weeks ago I bought another iMac and installed PSE8 on it, and here is where the problem began. When launching PSE8 on this iMac, a window would appear on the screen indicating that I already had the same serial number installed in two other computers, and that therefore I had 30 days to solve the problem.
    SOLUTION:
    a. Reinstalled PSE8 on the older iMac, launched it, and then chose "Deactivate" from the Help Menu and proceeded to deactivate PSE8
    b. Then I "deinstalled" PSE8 from this iMac, since I don't need it (I have CS5 on it)
    c. Launched PSE8 in the new iMac, and chose "Activate Serial Number" on the window mentioned in the last sentence of the "Original Problem" above, and this time it accepted the serial number because it could not find it in the older iMac that was still on my home network
I hope that this could be of help to others.

  • Where does iPhoto save the time for each photo?

I copied some photos from the library to my desktop, ran software to add an hour to several at once (forgot daylight savings time), deleted the original photos from iPhoto, and re-imported the new copy with the new times back into the library.
I was very surprised to see the information window on the bottom left side of the iPhoto window still showed the old time. Even more confusing is that if I bring up the main info window (CMD-I), the time indicated there is the time I corrected to.
Why do these times not match? Where is iPhoto keeping the old times?

    Bob:
Other users have reported that also. I've used PhotoInfo to change time and dates of file and upon importing back into iPhoto they are reported as changed in both the Source window info section and in the Get Info window's Photo section. Don't know why I can do it and the other users were not able to.
I just dragged the photos from the thumbnail window to the desktop, launched PhotoInfo, went to the File->Open menu and select the file. I then changed the time and clicked on Change button. Upon importing into iPhoto the date displayed as changed. If you didn't use PhotoInfo you might give it a try.

  • Where does iMovie save the movie file?

I have imported my video and I want to get to the folder without opening iMovie. Which folder does iMovie put the raw footage into?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Brian,
You also need to know that when you see your iMovie project inside the HD Movie folder, you can't simply double-click the project icon and see all of your assets. You need to hold the Apple button while single-clicking on the icon, then choose "Show Assets" to see your media, the QT reference movie, etc.

  • Where does Spotlight store the info when it catalogs a Hard Drive?

Before I realized it, Spotlight was cataloging 6 hard drive (partitions) that I use for BackUp. Now I'm sure this is taking up some hard drive space, and I'd like to find out where these files are stored so I can trash them.
Does anyone know where they are stored? Can you selectively find one (but not trash my main HD info?)
    Thanks,
    Steve

Spotlight stores its indexing data on the volume that is indexed in an invisible folder named .Spotlight-V100, so it isn't using any of the space on your startup drive. Put the volumes you don't want indexed into the Privacy pane of the Spotlight panel in System Preferences.
BTW, if your backups are on the same drive as your startup volume, that is, you have simply partitioned a single drive to have everything, just in different volumes on that drive, your backups won't do you any good if the drive fails. And they do fail sooner or later.

  • Where does Computer save synced info from Iphone

I synced up my iphone about a week ago and now I'm trying to find some of that information in my computer. I can' seem to find any of the calendar events, contacts, or notes. This computer also has 2 iphones synced to it, could that be the problem?

Calendar events should be in iCal, Contacts in Address Book, Notes I think in email (but I'm not sure).

  • Where does iPhoto save imported files????  how do you "save"?

ok this is driving me crazy:
I've imported photos and movie clips from my camera through usb through iPhoto.
Where does iPhoto save these files?
I've opened iMovie to find the movie clip and I can't find it anywhere...
also: after editing a photo in iMovie, how do you "save" it?

    Chris
You’ve a bit of a learning curve ahead of you as you obviously haven’t really understood iPhoto, what it is and how it works. You could do yourself a favour and have a look at the tutorials at http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#iphoto
    To specific cases:
When you press "done" it doesn't save it (find the photo in its original file and open it with Preview, you'll see it hasn't been saved).
Yes, but it has! You see iPhoto will always preserve your Original file. So when you make edits it carries out these on copy of the file. You can see this in the iPhoto Window. There is no way to make iPhoto edit the original file.
I have opted for iPhoto not to duplicate my photos and keep its own library (to me that doesn't make any sense, my photos are about 15GB, I wouldn't want them to turn into 30GB for no reason!),
    1. The best solution for that it to allow iPhoto to copy the files into the Library and then remove your own copies.
    2. When you go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import', you are running what is called a Referenced Library. In a Referenced Library iPhoto will not copy the files on import, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this
it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file.
It will still create a thumbnail and,
if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
so the problem still exists, why doesn't it save new photos in my pictures folder?
Because you told it not to. When you run a Referenced Library +you are responsible for File Management+. Remember that bit above where I said
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures
You need to put the files where you want them, then import them to iPhoto. Iphoto has no control over any file outside the Library Package. So when it comes to deleting things you’ll need to remove the pics from iPhoto and then go and root them out from your folder structure by hand.
None of this is the case if you run a Managed Library.
or ask me where to save them?
Because that’s not what it does. Check out Image Capture for that.
I'm worried that if I now let it save all my new photos to its iPhoto library (which is basically a virtual library as I understand it)
What do you mean by a “virtual library”?
and in a year's time I change laptops I run the risk of loosing photos as I won't know which photos are were (now I can do a back up to an external drive simply by copying the folders I choose from the pictures folder.
If you run a Managed Library then backing up and migrating are both very simple. You simply back up the iPhoto Library or move it as the case may be. There are many, many back up utilities that will do incremental back ups if the Library: Time Machine, DejaVu Chronosync are several but there are a hundred more. Search on MacUpdate.
If you run a Referenced Library you must +back up the Originals and the iPhoto Library+ (to get your Albums, Modified Versions and so on). Migrating rto a new machine is a bear too, as you cannot allow the path to the files to alter. (See my pitfall no. 3 above.
Worst of all: a mixed Managed/Referenced Library: a recipe for data loss.
My strongest advice to you is to start over with iPhoto. Create a new Library: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and import 100 pics into it and explore it for a week or two. Get to know the ins and outs a bit and se how it works. Then decide if it’s the right app for you. By all means post back if you need more info.

  • Can you use Easynews to download movies etc to IMac and how and where do you save the files?

Can you useEasynews to download movies etc to IMac and how and where do you save the files?

From your Apple menu at the left end of the menubar, select "About this Mac." You get a window similar to this:
    1) The Mac OS version is just under the big "MAC OS X" line. Post what that says.
    2) We can start to figure out what iMac you have if you post what that the "Processor" line says.
We need to find out because Apple's poor labling choices for this forum, intended for iMacs made before 2006, causes people with newer and much more capable Macs to post here by mistake.
Without some info from you, it's much like your calling an auto mechanic and asking if you can use a certain part without telling him the make, model, or year of your car. Quess what his first question will be? Works the same here.

I'm having a wee posting spree today after lacking the inclination to respond to the same old threads for the last few days.    But I do love it when people get all in a tizzy complaining about stuff that is right under their nose (so to speak).   So I guess my criteria for responding is often based as much on how big a smile it puts on my face, as to how much I am helping the OP.   Unfortunately that irreverent approach gets me into trouble at times, and one of the moderators deleted one of my illustrated replies just a few days ago.  It took me a few minutes to work out why it had been deleted.  The subtext was 'risking one eye', and I eventually realized that the implied 'risk' could definitely be seen as offensive to some people.
