Where does mail go after move to..?

I need help. Here is what I did.
While I was reading my email I did right click on the message, and choose Move to — inbox — account name.  it was the same folder (account name), for some reason I though it was on another mail account  ( I have two imap accounts from yahoo). But then the email was gone and I can't find anywhere neither on the yahoo server or the mail client., I have enabled show deleted messages, but it's not showing, also tried reindex email with out luck..
On yahoo server was deleted immediately, and it’s not in the trash folder.
So where has gone this email, is there anyway to recover that email or is this a bug of Mail 7.0  ?
I tried doing the same thing with another not important email with the same problem, once I choose move to the primary inbox folder which is the one that received the email, the email is gone
Thanks.

This also happened to me with a Yahoo account using OS X Mail.  If you select a message and perform Move To -> Inbox it will disappear from Mail and disappear from the Yahoo mail server.  I lost an important message accidentally and the only thing I can think of is to have Yahoo restore my inbox to an earlier time.  This is a terrible bug, do not use this menu item using OS X mail with a Yahoo account!

    I also found my to-do's for my imap account in /Users/<username>/Library/Calendars/(long letters-numbers name).imap/(long letters-numbers name).calendar/Events/(long letters-numbers name).ics.
In addition, I found to-do's created in iCal in /Users/<username>/Library/Calendars/(long letters-numbers name).calendar/Events/(long letters-numbers name).ics. Scroll through the files in the events folders, find the date created or due date of the to-do and double click it. It will take you to the to-do in iCal.
In general, the to-do's will be in the Events folder of the Calendar they were created in. The iMap to-do's add another layer to the file structure.

  • Where does mail store downloaded photos

Where does mail store downloaded photos?

If I understood you... you can export your entire iPhoto library to an external Hard Drive? I could only see import option...
You're welcome. Yes, that is correct. In iPhoto, File > Export... > Select external drive.
You said your drive has to be specially formatted - is that for if you want to export your photos to that drive? Or do you mean if you wanted the iPhoto library to be located primarily on the hard drive?
I meant the latter > specifically, your external drive would need to be formatted in this manner if you wanted your primary iPhoto library to reside on an external drive and function correctly. This format is the format of your MBP's internal drive.
Format the drive as FAT32 using disk utility to make the drive universally compatible between OSX/windows. Place the JPEG images on the drive. Transfer between machines with no problem.

Where does Mail keep its hidden cache of auto-complete email addresses.  I am plagued with an incorrect email address I can't get rid of.  Have made sure it's deleted from Contacts and made sure it's deleted from "Previous Recipients" list in Mail.  But it still keeps reappearing ... obviously a secret cache file hidden somewhere?

Autocomplete has nothing to do with this problem.
From the Mail menu bar, select
              Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for a disused SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

  • Where does Mail store its email files

hi there, I'm having a bit of an email crisis.
background: I have a MacBook Pro circa 2012 running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 with over 28 or 29GB of free space.
For email, I have a primary address through Cox Cable and some secondary Cox Cable email accounts for junk mail and the like.  Recently, there was some recurring difficulty retrieving the Cox emails.  The Mail program would open up and look for the Cox Cable email accounts and variously fail to connect with any of them.  The Mail program would tell me that it was unable to access the account and suggest I enter my password.
I decided to delete the accounts and set them up again to see if doing so would grab the most current SMTP settings, etc..  Doing so, I may have accidentally deleted from local storage (on my computer) my old archive of sent and received mail (going back to 2006).  More on that later.
When establishing the settings in Mail for the cox accounts, I left the feature on where Mail would leave the the emails on my Cox email server (which only uses 7% of its space currently).  This seemed to correct the retrieval errors I was getting before.  Something else strange happened.  Sometimes when I would send mail, it would send, I'd hear the whooshing sound, but it would not store a copy of it in my sent email folder.  In most cases, the recipients confirmed receipt.  This would only happen with some sent mail.  Others would be deposited into the Sent mail folder in Mail as usual.
    Questions:
    (1) Where does OS X store the Mail email files?  I can't find any folder with an xbox file or any other file.
    (2) How can I find out if my missing email archive doesn't exist somewhere else on my laptop right now and my Mail program can't find it.
    (2) If I well and truly deleted the archive not only from my Mail program but also from my laptop, am I able to import my email archive from my external hard drive where it was backed up?  I'd like to leave the archive in an archive folder in Mail so that I can see it and search it when necessary without having to plug in my external drive and also so there are two copies of this email archive.
Any advice you can provide will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

hi.  update.  I found the hidden Library folder where the mbox email files are located as follows:
click on your finder to open it
click the GO command from the drop down menu and before clicking again press and hold down the option key.  that reveals in the Go drop-down menu the hidden Library folder.  Click on that Library folder to open it.
from there, look for a sub folder called Mail
click on that and see a sub folder called V2.
click on that and you'll find subfolders for the email accounts you've established, inside which are the .mbox files that represent those email databases.
however, once inside there, I found no .mbox files for the old archived files and so I think that I goofed and well and truly deleted the old POP emails when switching from POP to IMAP about two weeks back.
the good news is that I was backing up somewhat regularly via Time Machine to an external drive.  So I recovered the old POP emails into an separate INBOX and SENT MAIL archive that now sits again on my Mac in my Mail program, somewhere below the active mail folders I use daily.
The POP email protocol was lately prone to these 'unable to access' and 'please enter your password' messages and that's what prompted me to try to change my settings.  When I did, I must have found that Cox email now supports IMAP for residential customers and made the switch from POP to IMAP, inadvertently deleting the old POP email.
The IMAP protocol resolved the 'unable to access' and 'please enter your password' messages that Mail used to give me under the POP protocol.  But left the problem of certain sent mails not being stored immediately in my local sent mail folder on my Mac.
    unresolved questions are:
i generally liked switching from POP to IMAP because my email on my phone and laptop are more apt to be in sync and coordinated, and it resolved the connection/password problems I had with POP.  I'd like to keep on IMAP.  I have experienced the occasional missing sent mail.  So far as I can tell, when sending the email from my laptop, I hear the swoosh of sent mail and the recipients do receive it but a copy if not always delivered into my local sent mail folder.  a copy of it is stored on the Cox email server, however.
any workaround that issue?  It leaves me wondering sometimes whether the mail was sent or received and I also need a record of all email sent on my laptop for future reference.
is it possible this missing sent mail only happens when there are attachments?  it doesn't happen every time.  I've noticed it has happened when I've sent emails with attachments.
any help you can give is appreciated!

  • Where is mail stored after archive and install?

    Hello All,
I need to know where my old mails are stored after archive and install. To give a bit of background... This is a work computer. Its a MacMini which came with 10.4 installed. Before I joined the company boss upgraded to Leopard and thats what I have been using all this time. Recently it blue screened and I had to do an archive and install after trying various other options.
I only had the original install discs with 10.4 in them and not the Leopard discs. Since I needed to my computer up and running, I used those discs and did an archive and install.
I have all my old documents, etc but I couldn't open mail from the previous systems folder because its a different OS.
Is it possible to retrieve my old emails without having to install Leopard again?
    Any help is appreciated.

When I started the computer up, instead of the login page with the account names coming up, there was just a blue screen. There are lots of articles that gave suggestions to try but nothing worked so I had to archive and install.

  • Where does Mail save attachments to sent messages?

In believe attachments to sent messages used to be saved in the ~/library/application support/mail folder. I don't find any such folder with Mavericks.
Are outgoing attachments saved at all? If so, where?
    Thanks,

    I'm using version 1.4.1.

  • Where does Mail store its passwords?

HI there, I am running into little trouble with mail here.
Can anybody tell me, where it stores the passwords for my account?
is it in preferences or in keychain somewhere?
    thanks!

    Hi Alexander,
It depends how you setup your system ... in the language I mean.
If you for example are a German than it would called something like "Slußel ..." or Dutsh "Sleutelhangertoegang" and you will find it in the Utilities folder.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Where does KN 09 store .mov files when these files were not copied into the KN document?

I saved a 'test' KN document without copying the movie files into the document.  The size of the document was less than half the size of the actual movie files themselves, so I figured they were not embedded into the document.  I then played the KN slideshow on a different drive that did not contain the actual movie files.
But it played!!  How can that be?!
I had created the document leaving the box for copying audio and video unchecked!  It was saved as a package.  By the way what is a "package" anyway?
Can anyone shed light on this dilemma?
    Thank you,
    Howard
PS - the reason this is important is that I want to edit my real Keynote document as it gets bigger without the constant spinning color beachball appearing everytime I right clickk or edit.   This doc is 9GB already and will get a lot larger.  If I can edit without the beachball appearing by saving as a package without embedding the video that would be great!
My other option is just to leave the videos in a separate folder and then click on them at the appropriated moment.  That is what the Apple tech support guy told me is what lots of Apple people do when presenting Keynotes in their stores.
    Thanks again.

I decided to try double-clicking one of the files in my library, whereupon iTunes told me that it couldn't find the file. I clicked the button to find the file myself, and was pleased when the dialog box opened up in the right folder.
This made sense, as iTunes knew where the file should have been, so offered that folder as a starting point.
I then tried another file (from a different album), and iTunes offered me the same folder as before. This was logical, as most Windows applications remember which folder you last chose. I navigated to the correct folder for this file, chose the file and closed the dialog.
I then tried another file in the second album, and guess what? iTunes offered me the very first folder again! No, it didn't remember my last folder.
So now if I want to tell iTunes where the files are, I have to double-click each of the 100 files that it's lost, then click the button to say I'll find the file, then navigate away from the wrong folder to the one that it should have remembered from the previous time, and then choose the folder.

  • Where does mail save images?

When you hover over a picture a popup asks if you want to save the image...but where is it saved? I checked camera and photos, no go.

If you tap the Save Image button then it should be saved in the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album in the Photos app. If they are not appearing then try closing the Photos app completely and then re-open to see if they appear : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Photos app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Photos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. You may have to re-try saving the photos.

  • Where does iMovie save the movie file?

I have imported my video and I want to get to the folder without opening iMovie. Which folder does iMovie put the raw footage into?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Brian,
You also need to know that when you see your iMovie project inside the HD Movie folder, you can't simply double-click the project icon and see all of your assets. You need to hold the Apple button while single-clicking on the icon, then choose "Show Assets" to see your media, the QT reference movie, etc.

  • Where does Mail actually store inbox contents?

That is, where can I find the place (assuming it's in a folder somewhere) my messages exist - outside of the Mail application?

They're in your user library.   ~/Library/Mail/V2
Edit:  Your user library is hidden by default but can be reached on Finders menubar.  Finder > Go > hold the option key down > select Library

  • Where does Mail keep inbox and sent box?

I need to sync my office machine and my laptop from time to time. I can sync the Mailboxes excepting the inbox, sentbox, and drafts (and junk), from the user/library/mail/mailboxes. Should I just sync the Mail folders, or is that likely to screw something up? Or can I find the inbox and sent boxes somewhere else and sync them separately? Both machines are running Mail v3.6, but I know some little things display differently on the two machines. Who knows how deeply those differences go...
I don't want to get involved with mac.com to do this, it's not a daily requirement.

The inbox and sent mailboxes should be in /Mail/your email account/ and the others in /Mail/Mailboxes/
