I am in the process of backing it all up and I am running into errors and just want to check.

Welcome To Discussions Alex!
"I am atempting to upload a newer version of OSX to my computer..."
Let's start with that, and deal with the music after.
You can't upload a newer version of OS X. Do you mean install?
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.8 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.
The discs should look like the images in the above links, unless purchased from AppleRescue.

Software Update, Upgrade: What's The Difference?
Once Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.

Orders must be mailed by March 19, 2007.
AppleRescue, also sells a Tiger installation set on CD

  • Where does downloaded music get saved?

    Hello.  Downloaded 1 music album from Google Music.  I can see it and play it but cannot find it in the file system.  Where does downloaded music get stored on the Ellipsis 8?  Thanks.

    OK, I have read a bit more...in the purchase req release strategy config notes I read the following:
    "The system assigns the values fromthe communication structure CEBAN to the characteristics of this class."
    But I would still like to know where the data from CEBAN-USRC1 is actually stored....
    Thanks for the help

  • Where does Snow Leopard store iTunes Music

    Greetings,
    I wanted to get a clean start for my iTunes Library.
    First, I deleted my iTunes folder in Documents into the trash and then emptied the Trash. Second, I deleted the iTunes app.
    I went to iTunes and downloaded a new iTunes application. After it was installed the entire iTunes music library was there when I opened my new download of the iTunes Application.
    Where did it come from if I deleted my iTunes folder thinking I was deleting all of my downloaded songs?
    So my question is where does Snow Leopard store these songs? I assumed they would be gone so I could begin to put in new albums in my iTunes.
    Thanks in advance for your help and support.
    Leigh

    You can find out or change where the actual songs are by opening iTunes/Preferences/Advanced (I'm still on iTunes 8 so I apologize if your menu looks different). Click my link below. The yellow highlight is mine.

  • C3-01: Where does music/vid media stored?

    Where does music/vid media files are stored when transferred from OVI suite? Does it automatically saved to the memory card or the hardware built memory. How do I save it directly to the memory card?

    The first step in the sync process is to create a backup.  On a mac this backup is located at
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.  The backup does not included iTunes media as it is assumed to be in the iTunes library you are syncing with.  Also, as you have discovered, when you first sync with a new iTunes library iTunes will erase all iTunes media on the phone (music, videos, etc.) and replace it with the media in the library you are syncing with.  Photos from Camera Roll (which are taken by the phone) are part of the backup.  Photos in Photo Library (which were synced to your phone from your computer) are not; again, because it is assumed they are already on your computer as that is how they were synced to your phone in the first place.
    What, exactly, is still on your phone at this point?

  • There is a bunch of music in my library under "purchased" that I did not purchase. where does this come from?

    there is a bunch of music in my library under "purchased" that I did not purchase. where does this come from?

    It is possible you accidently added these songs to it. Even though the Purchased playlist is kind of a smart playlist you can still drag and drop songs from your library into it.

  • When u import a cd, where does it go ? i need to put on external hard drive

    when u inmport a cd, where does itunes actually put it ? c:\ hard drive ? or where my music is located, on external k:\

    It will put it where ever it is you've told iTunes to put your music. What do you see if you look under Preferences>Advanced?

  • Where are my music videos stored???

    Actually, this is about my wife's iPhone...I am completely confused. She has like 60 music videos on her iPhone (from our iTunes library) and I cannot delete them. To be honest, I am not even sure how they are on there in the first place. When I plug in her iPhone, iTunes says she has 3.2 GB of videos...even if I don't select ANY music folder! If I uncheck the "Include Music Videos" box, then the videos go to 0 GB, so I know that number is from music videos (and not the small number of videos she has taken from her iPhone). I have tried to restore the OS (I upgraded her OS a couple weeks ago to iOS5, and restored it again to iOS5 yesterday), but that does nothing. Any clue where these videos are being stored so I can delete them from her iPhone? Even if I delete manually, they are reloaded the next time I plug in her iPhone to the computer. Crazy!
    For my own iPhone, using the same iTunes library, I do not have a problem at all with this.
    Thanks so much for your help!

    Actually, I did manually delete the videos from the phone, but when I plugged it back in, it re-installed them. Yes, I can avoid that by unchecking the "Include Music Videos", but the thing is...my wife does WANT music videos. But just the ones she selects, not these random ones. There must be some subfolder that it is not apparent that is holding these music videos. But for the life of me, I have no idea where this folder is. Can anyone help me with this? The last option I have will be to restore the iPhone as a new phone and reinstall everything onto it. But that's kind of a pain if I don't have to do that...
    Thanks everyone!

  • Where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?

    I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this issue or not: Does anyone else feel like, after searching for specific songs, there's just little to nothing in the database? I feel like most of my searches are pointless because iTunes has either no data of my requested search and/or only has bits and pieces of it.
    Another question I have: After having a slightly successful search, why am I left with low quality tunes? I mean, you can hear the compression... badly. (I know it's not my speakers)
    Last question: If I'm paying for the song, shouldn't I be allowed to download a universal file? iTunes uses a unique format that no other application uses. In other words, more money has to be spend for m4a to mp3 converters (unless you're a cracker [not a racial comment]).
    To me, I value iTunes and its team, so I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I understand there are contracts involved with the artists and it's hard to please ALL of the subscribers. But seriously, where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?
    Custom   Windows XP Pro   Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

    Today I thought of finally putting lyrics on my songs. So I've been quite some time busy doing that, then I tried it on my iPad (2) and I can't find them. Just as the people above say. Then I went to search where I can find them and I found this page. I'm really dissapointed and I don't understand how something like this could happen. So I hope Apple will fix this soon.
    (I'm just posting this so that Apple will do something about it)

  • Backing up my ipod touch...where does it all go?

    So, my iPod touch has a bunch of music on it, and I don't have it all on this laptop. It was on my laptop that my school gives me during the school year but takes it for the summer. I have a lot of music in my itunes on my home laptop, but not all of the stuff on my iPod. I manually went and right-clicked my iPod in itunes and clicked "back up", and it took some time and supposidly backed it all up. Where does itunes store it? I found one of the folders but my computer doesn't recognize any of the files. Is this like a special coding itunes puts on the files so that only it can decode them? Bottom line is, if I end up restoring my iPod from the backup I just manually made, will all my music on my iPod, from school and home laptops, be put back on my iPod? Thanks for any help!

    The backup that itunes performs does NOT include music or apps or movies or videos.
    All of your music should be on your computer.  Sync it back to the ipod.

  • Where does album art come from?

    I had assumed that the album artwork that iTunes 7 provided would only be from music available on iTunes. It made sense; no Beatles artwork, no AC/DC, no Led Zep. However, some albums that aren't available at the iTunes store automatically appear. Most notably, of all things, the album "Conquer the Video Craze"; an obscure record that teaches you how to play Pac-Man and Stargate. When I saw that THIS appeared, I started checking others. There are a lot of albums that aren't available on iTunes, yet the artwork is downloaded. Where does it come from?

    I also could download artwork of albums which are not available in the Dutch iTunes Store (the only one available for my purchases).
    Searching in other Stores I found the albums, so I guess the artwork has to be stored on a central server or the artwork request is redirected to others Stores' servers.
    No information is known to me where it actually comes from.

  • Where is the music coming from? It's not affiliated w/ any of my open web pages. Make it stop!

    This only happens in MFF (I have 3.6). When the browser opens and the tabs begin loading, this horrible music starts playing. None of the sites I have in the tabs play music. All of my plug-ins seem to be Microsoft related. I have XP and my AV is Kaspersky and I run MFF in safe mode. Where is this music coming from and how can I get it to stop? Please help. Thank you in advance!

    A week after my first call to AppleCare, I called again for help. This time the Tech was very helpful and she did not ask for additional $$.
    My computer does not have an Airport card in it. To get my new Extreme-n to recognize my Express so that I can send iTunes wirelessly to my stereo, we spent an hour on the phone working through a manual setup. It included an initial hard-wired Ethernet connection to both Airports. It included manually copying the AirportID number from one device to the other, and then the reverse. It also took three different “hard-resets” of my Express. My “simple” Extreme-n to Express wireless connection is now working properly.
    Kudos to my Tech; she was very knowledgeable and very patient.
    Boos to Apple Extreme-n team for releasing a product without a comprehensive setup utility. This should have been a simple ten-minute set-up procedure, just like it was for my old Airport Extreme base station.
    Bottom line: Keep calling AppleCare until you get a good Tech to help.

  • After ripping a CD, where does the file go?

    After I insert a CD into the drive and click "import music" from the CD diretly into iTunes, where does the actual file go on my computer?
    I use windows XP.
    If I rip a cd in windows media player or something else, the actual file goes to My Music folder, where does the file go when I do it in iTunes?
    HELP!

    Thanks for the help, but that folder only contains music i purchased and downloaded from iTunes, it doesn't include music a import from CDs using iTunes.
    Can anyone help?

  • Where Does A Switch Go In the Network?

    I've maxed out the ethernet jacks on my Airport Extreme Base Station (gigabit), and I have a gigabit switch to introduce to the network, but I'm not sure where it should go. Here is my current setup:
    Cable Modem ->
    AEBS ->
    (1) Apple TV (wireless);
    (2) MacBook Pro 10.5.2 (wireless);
    (3) Vonage Adapter (wired ethernet);
    (4) Tivo HD (wired ethernet);
    (5) Slingbox (wired ethernet);
    (6) USB hub ->
    (7) external HD "A";
    (8) external HD "B"; and (soon)
    (9) external HD "C."
    Apple TV connects to the iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, which in turn finds the media files on external HD "A." MacBook Pro runs Backup to backup external HD "A" to external HD "B." MacBook Pro backs itself up via Time Machine to a separate external HD that is directly connected to the MBP, but eventually the Time Machine drive will be external HD "C," hanging on the AEBS.
    All of this works more or less fine right now, but for logistical reasons, I'd like to put the Apple TV in a cabinet. I know the wireless signal will be difficult in the cabinet, so I'd rather have the Apple TV plugged in to the AEBS via ethernet cable. (The Apple TV streams Apple Lossless music beautifully in this arrangement, but there is a hiccup once every great while that plugging in would hopefully avoid.) That's where the need for the switch comes in immediately, but I'd also like the flexibility to connect other/future devices to the network via ethernet cable.
    So, where does the switch go, before or after the AEBS? And having answered that, can you tell me which device handles DHCP (or do they both and if so, how does that work?)? Also, how do I setup port forwarding (Vonage, BitTorrent, etc.) with this new arrangement? What other things will I have to adjust or be mindful of?
    Many thanks in advance to those willing to help me out with this.

    So, where does the switch go, before or after the AEBS?
    You'll want to connect the Ethernet switch "after" the AEBS.
    And having answered that, can you tell me which device handles DHCP (or do they both and if so, how does that work?)?
    The AEBS will handle DHCP service. Ethernet switches/hubs, typically, do not have this capability.
    Also, how do I setup port forwarding (Vonage, BitTorrent, etc.) with this new arrangement?
    The following is a typical port forwarding scenario ...
    To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
    Internet > DHCP tab
    o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
    o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
    o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
    o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
    o Click the "+" (Add) button
    o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
    o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
    o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
    o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
    o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
    o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
    o Click "Continue"

  • Where does the song metadata reside (cover art work and other information)?

    I edit the metadata for each album/song - add cover art, correct any album name or artists erros, make some notes to myself to help search/browse. Where does this data reside - with the song file or the library file or somewhere else? BTW I don't download the cover artwork from iTunes. I just find it online and copy and paste it into the metadata window. I have too many obscure albums to rely on iTunes.
    The reason I ask is because I double backup my music and iTunes files. Normally, when I rip new albums I just add the new files and updated library files to me backup hard drives, by sorting by the modified date. But I'm now going back and editing all of my oder albums/songs metadata as I just described. In order to make sure this information gets backed up I'm simply backing up the entire iTunes Music folder, which takes all night cause it's around 500GBs. But I'd prefer to only add the modified files to the backup, which usually only takes a few moments.
    When I sort by modified date the albums/songs I edited metadata for do not show up as modified that day. So, is it pointless to always backup the entire folder when all I have to do is back up what was modified? And if so, what are those files?
    Also, is there a good app that will compare two hard drives and keep them in synch? So that I can basically do what I want to do automagically? Set one as the master and one as the backup, and ahve the app always synch the backup to the master. That would be nice!

    If you're not downloading artwork from iTunes, all of the tags and artwork are stored with the individual song files. Some iTunes-specific data, like play count and rating, are stored in the iTunes Library database file.

  • Where does my accompaniment song downloads go

    where does my accompaniment song downloads go?

    Look under the iTunes Advanced menu for the "Check for purchases" command and run that. You may find the tracks there to be downloaded.
    If it says they were downloaded and you just can't find the tracks, take a look here for some tips on how to look for them.
    If the iTMS says they've been downloaded and you can't find them, contact the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explain the problem to them.
