Where Does System.err go?

If I run my class as an applet I can get error messages using the Java Console. Where do these messages go when I launch it using WebStart?

Please don't cross post.
500 internal server error are written to your weblogic.log
          (weblogic/myserver/weblogic.log)
          weblogic.debug.httpd.servlet=true
will make 500 internal server errors include the stack trace.

  • Where does System.err.println("huh?"); goto?

Hi. Where does the System.err.println("asdfds"); goto for .class files?
When I try this for .jsp files, I get an output line in the console,
expected. :> But when I put it in a class I'm using in that jsp file, I
don't get anything anywhere, or at least no where I found. Can anyone give

this System.err is just for immediate debugging and I want to pull it out as

    Thanks for any input.

I found out what I was doing wrong! :< I was copying the .java file instead

  • Where does system output go to in Unix?

Where does system output go to in a Unix operating system for java?
    System.out.println

If you've started your process from a shell, then standard out is that shell - since you're asking this question I suppose it's safe to assume you didn't start this process from a shell, in which case stdout might be /dev/null or might be some log file - if you have access to the source then look and see if output has been redirected (per a previous post) if you don't have access to the source ask the folk who wrote the code where the logs are.
    Good Luck

  • Where does System.out.println go?

Hi Everyone: I know I've seen this topic before, but I'm still having some trouble. I would like to debug my EJBs, and so I've added some System.out.println statements to them. Where does that go? I've looked at the defaultTrace.trc files in the
    C:\usr\sap\P48\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log
folder, and haven't found any of the text that I think I am writing. I appreciate any guidance! Ian.

    Hi lan,
I was facing the same question earlier, and now I think I have figured out one possible answer. Actually, where the System.out.println goes is up to the Server Admin to config. There is a default SYSTEM.OUT log controller ( under location controller side) pre-defined to cater for all System.out.println(). All the System.out.println() output is considered as INFO type log message. However, this default SYSTEM.OUT controller is not assigned with any real log destination, thus, we cannot find the output anywhere.
If you goes to the log configurator (using Visual Admin), you can locate this SYSTEM.OUT controller , and add in a default (Anonymous) destionation for it . (you need to toggle on the advance edit mode from the top menu , then you can add modify the destination settings of a Controller).
For Anonymous destionation, the println() output will sure go to the defaultTrace.trc (better view it using Log Viewer, instead of viewing it from the log file ).
Or , you can define a separate file (e.g. c:\temp\myStd.log ) as the log destination ..
Last but not the least, you need to set the ForceSingleTraceFile setting from 'YES' to 'NO' , then you can see your "myStd.log".
To change the ForceSingleTraceFile , go to Visual Admin, J2EE server --> Kernel --> LogManager.
Hope you find the above useful.

  • Where does System.out output go?!!!

    Hi,
I was wondering where does the output for System.out and such goes to? To which log file in OAS? I couldn't seems to be able to locate the log file storing this information.
Any comment will be a great help to me, thxs in advance!

    zhicheng,
    Regarding you second question ....
    2. Windows Services
After installation, there are six windows services
    created: XXXAgent, XXXEMWebsite, XXXProcessManager,
What doesn the above three means? I have tried to
stop them manually(is there any order to follow?),
but many times the XXXEMWebsite service failed to
stop successfully, then I have to restart my
computer. What's the matter? XXXEMWebsite is the service for starting/stopping the Enterprise Manager of iAS. This represents the file emctl.bat on your file system.
XXXProcessManager is the file opmn.bat on your file system. This is used for starting/stopping all your iAS Processes.
I have stopped all the services of iAS on windows several times without facing any problems. Just one word here, I always used to stop the ProcessManager service at the start and EMWebsite service at the last.
Try if this helps you too.
    Regards.

  • Where does system out or log statements go in ISA-CRM?

We have added some system out print and log.error statments in a new java class file.
Can anybody tell where does these statements go, I mean to which log file. I was hoping defaultTrace.0.log, but could n't find.
    We are using CRM/ISA b2b.
    Thanks in advance.

    Mark,
Here the steps for session trace:
    1. logon to the XCM administrator
    http://mycompnay.com:50000/b2b/admin/xcm/init.do
    2. Go to General Settings->Customer->b2b->b2bconfig.
    3. In the right side frame select true as the value of the parameter logfiledownload.
    4. open URL http://mycompnay.com:50000/b2b/admin
    5. Click on logging - > session tracing
    6. you will see a partial URL in the next jsp page inside a text field. complete this URL for eg.
    http://mycompnay.com:50000/b2b/b2b/init.do
    7. Click start application. This will bring up the logon page in a separate browser window.
    8. In the previous window click Start Session Tracing.
This will create two hyperlinks with a long name begining with session appended by the date and session ID.
    9. Move to the new window where logon.jsp was started and execute whatever steps necessary in the B2B application till you execute the code segments containing your log entries.
    10. Come back to the previous window and click on the hyperlink for the logfile under the caption "download"
This will open the session log file as a zip -> text document and you can search for your log entries there.
    Thx,
    Bharat.

  • Where does System.out.println("") send info?

Under normal java execution it goes to the java console... where does it go when running a servlet under Tomcat on localhost?

Output is written to the log file whose location is specified in server.xml. The default is the /logs directory under the tomcat root.

  • Where does system preferences reside?

    Hi there,
I am trying to locate the actual coding of system preferences. Does anybody know where it is? I have looked under system and library but not able to find it.
    thanks for your help
    m

I assume you mean the location of the preference pane files. I'm not sure what you mean by "coding." If you're looking for system preferences and where they're stored, the answer depends on what preference you're looking for. Most can be found in your user library: /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences
The panes themselves are located in:
    Macintosh HD/System/Library/PreferencePanes
You may also have user-specific preference panes installed. Those reside in: /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/PreferencePanes

  • Where does System.out go on W2K?

I have built an executable jar file, which writes to System.out
On Solaris, I can run either of:
         java -jar foo.jar
         foo.jar
and see the output in either case. But on W2K,
I can see the output only if I run
         java -jar foo.jar
    If try
         foo.jar
I see nothing. Is there a way to get output sent to the cmd
window when invoking using the second syntax on W2K?

Under W2K you use the automatic file extension execution.
    This is associated with javaw.
Javaw starts java in a extra process, that is NOT associated with the starting CMD.
To solve this problem you have to exchange the association of the .jar from javaw to java in the Registry.
Solution (Sorry, I only know the names in German):
    Open Explorer.
    GoTo "Extras->Ordneroptionen..."
    Tab "Dateityp"
    Select "Neu"
    Enter "JAR"
    Select "Ok"
    Select "Erweitert"
    Select "Neu..."
    Enter by "Vorgang" = "Open"
Enter by "Anwendung fr diesen Vorgang" = "<JAVA_HOME>/bin/java -jar %1" (replace JAVA_HOME> with your Java Home directory. e.g. C:\jdk1.3)
    Select "Ok"
    Select "Ok"
    Select "Schlieen"
    Start a new CMD
Now start your .jar with foo.jar
Now you will the the output from System.out

  • Where does the output of  System.out.write go??

My question might be silly... but i couldn't find out the exact answer anywhere..
Where does the output of System.out.write go??!! I am not getting anything in the console.. below is the snippet!
    public class TestWriteApp {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
         char a = 'c';
         System.out.write((byte)a);
    PEACE,
    Sandeep

Is goes to the console. But a write of a byte isn't the way to see it.
Try something that will show up easier like
System.out.println("Hello World");What OS are you using? Are you using a command window? Or a GUI like Netbeans?

  • Where does Restore write the system?

I did a restore (to a new HD) with Disk Utilities from a SuperDuper back up.
On the original drive, the system was installed first, then apps and so on.
My question is, where is my system on the new drive after the restore?
Does it matter? I always thought the "begining" of the HD was the fastest, and that is where the system should be.
Does a restore write in the order of the source? So if it displayed alpha, that is the order, and the system will write near the end?
If above is true, could I (should I) change the names of the other folders so the system is copied first?
    Thanks,
    James

If the restored SuperDuper! backup boots the machine and it looks and feels like the original, then leave things alone and definitely don't rename things. Most cloning/restoring apps write things in the order shown in the Terminal.app when you enter the command *ls -al /". Basically, hidden files/foldees, then visible ones, alphabetically, uppercase followed by lowecase.

  • ProRes LT codec: Where does it live in the system?

I always convert H.264 footage from a Canon DSLR into ProRes LT for editing in Final Cut 7.  I recently updated one of my hard drives to OS 10.6.8 for testing, as I was afraid to leave the excellent stability of 10.5.8.
Now my only choices for transcoding are ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ.
I don't need the bigger file sizes of 422 and 422 HQ, so I was wondering if there is a way to search for the ProRes LT codec and see if it is still there?  Maybe hiding in some utilities folder?
And just a general curiosity question:
What happens when you transcode from H.264 to ProRes LT?  The file size goes from 330 megabytes per minute to about 750 megabytes per minute.  Where does the extra data come from?  Is Compressor or MPEG Streamclip creating new information out of thin air when they transcode?  I would think this would hurt the sharpness of the original video.
    Thanks for any insights,
    jimbee

I'm not sure that knowing the specific location of ProRes LT would help here...  If you have correctly installed FCS3 on the new system drive, it should be there for use by any FCS apps requiring it. If it's not, you need to re-install FCS3.
What happens when you transcode H.264 to ProRes is analogous to "decompressing" footage back in the olden days.  H.264 is basically a very sophisticated compression technique based on mathmatics. That's why it hard to "decompress" on-the-fly like they did with HDV. The transcoding converts the footage to a "lossless" format that, although it is a larger filesize, is very easy for FCP to cut. Without the H.264 compression you probably couldn't capture the HD source on a DSLR because the bandwidth and storage requirements would be astronomical.
Yes, Compressor is creating new information, but by reading the results of the playback mathmatics rather than from thin air. The playback data is then encoded using the ProRes codec to expand the colorspace and arrange the data in a "lossless" array.
