Where does the iPhoto library reside?

Where does the iPhoto library reside on your hd?  when I go to the search bar above, it shows 2 libraries!  I am about out of hd space so I am hoping that it has been duplicated somehow.  It's about 36GB. =)
Thanks for your help!
MK

By default it's in your Pictures Folder.
If space is an issue you can move the Library to an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Where on the HD does the iPhoto library live?

Hi, I'd like to copy photos to an external HD. Where does the iPhoto library live on my hard drive? It's not in the "Home" (picture of a house) directory (there is a "Pictures" folder there, but my iPhoto pics are not in here). Where else could it be?

James, the search took you to iPhoto.app?
Here is a screenshot of the iPhoto Folder and where it resides as default.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.

  • What Does the iPhoto Library File Contain?

Does the iPhoto Library File (located: User -> Pictures -> iPhoto Library) contain both i) the images and ii) the layout, photo sizing, photo positioning, etc. for a Book Project created in iPhoto 08? I want to move a Book Project that I have created on computer "MacA" to another computer "MacB." MacA and MacB are not on the same network, so I will need to copy the file(s).
I want to be certain that the iPhoto Library File (described above) contains ALL OF THE FILES necessary to successfully move the Book Project from MacA to MacB. Will someone kindly confirm this. Thank you. Dale

If you have not changed the default setting for "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" then you iPhoto library is totally self contained and can be successfully copied to another Mac with the same or newer version of iPhoto - if you have changed that preference (strongly not recommended) then you will have great difficulty in moving your library

  • Where is the iPhoto library stored and how can I browse to it in Finder?  The "Photos" option is not showing up on the left hand side.

I created an app using Automator to batch resize my photos.  When I take photos with my iPhone 4s the resolution is so big I can't upload them to a web site, so I can select all the photos in an event and resize them down.  It's too time consuming to open each one in Preview and resize it manually.  This little app works perfectly!
Here's the only thing I'd like to change - when the app starts up it asks which photos I want to resize.  I'd love it to default to the iPhoto library so I can choose the most recent event.  But I can't for the life of me find it!  Normally there's a choice on the left hand side that says Photos and in the automator finder window, it's not showing up.  I've looked through all the folders I can think of and can't find it.
    Help!

You are not using iPhoto properly and are in danger of losing your photos
iPhoto is a SQP database application and there are NO user servicable parts in the database (by default the iPhoto library)  It is extremely important that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the content (or structure) of the iPhoto library
The only safe (and suppoprted) way to resize photo is to select them and export using the various esize options in teh export dialogue and use those resized photos - this is a bathc process and does not involve Preview nor does it involve seperate processing for each photo

  • Where is the iPhoto library folder?

    Hello,
I know this sounds kinda dumb, but I can no longer find the iPhoto folder that has my pictures in it. What I mean is, if I go to a Finder window and I click on "Pictures", it accurately lists all of my pictures that are on my MacBook Pro. However, there is no longer a folder there that I can open for my iPhoto pictures---instead, it's an icon of ALL of my iPhoto pictures. Does this make sense what I'm asking?
In other words, let's say I wanted to choose a single photo as my avatar for a certain webpage. Okay, so when the directory window opens up to allow me to navigate to the specific photo I want to use, in the past I have always clicked on "Pictures", and then I could see a FOLDER that I could click on to open it up. Once inside that folder, I saw the long list of picture categories (such as Events, Photos, Last Import, Faces, all of my custom folders, etc, etc, etc). But now, the only choice I have is to click on "iPhoto Library"---all 75 GB's of it! I don't want thousands of photos---I just want ONE. What happened to the folder that used to be there?
I am using iPhoto 11 (the latest updates are in it), Mountain Lion 10.8.1, and a MacBook Pro.
    Thank you!

Directly accessing the iPhoto Library from the Finder is not supported, nor has it been on any version of iPhoto.
The First of these is what you want:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Why does the iPhoto library file copy so slowly?

Every few months I back up all the important stuff on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012, 13", 750GB) to my 3TB external hard drive.
This has worked well for as long as I can remember. I used to have a proper backup program but due to the nature of my work and files, recently I prefer to just manually copy over each individual folder in my parent home folder, so I can have control of what is replaced and what is merged, etc.
However this time backing up, I had to copy every folder and file in 'Pictures' separately. This is because after trying to copy the parent folder in one transfer it didn't seem to be working well. I noticed that around the 11.22GB mark, the transfer would always slow right down from ~35MB/s to ~0.5MB/s. As you can imagine, with a Pictures folder totalling almost 300GB, this isn't something I wanted to put up with.
In the end, I figured out what was causing the issue. I tried copying just the iPhoto library file and discovered the problem occurred again.
Why? Is this a Yosemite bug or is it to do with the way that the file is structured?
It works fine otherwise and does not seem damaged.

    no idea
maybe if you provided some information someone could help
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? Why do you think it is getting larger? what exactly are you doing?
Could it be downloading photos from Your PhotoStream?

  • HT2638 Where is the iPhoto library on OS X mavericks??

I have recently upgraded my Mac to OS X Mavericks and I can't seem to find the iPhoto library! Can someone help me find it!

I recently recovered my Mac so I saved everything onto a hard drive.
Then that is where everything is - everything should include your iPhoto library
I have all my pictures saved on my hard drive but I would like to put them back on my Mac in iphoto library
Then if you do not have a backjup of yhour iPhoto library then you will need to start over importing these photos into a new iPhoto librbary
I saw that there is an iPhoto app that I could purchase but I don't think I should have to pay for an app that I had before the update!
If you had iPhoto '11 before the upgrade you do not need to pay for it - you reinstall it - if you did not have iPhoto '11 then you must pruchae iPhoto '11

  • Where does the song metadata reside (cover art work and other information)?

I edit the metadata for each album/song - add cover art, correct any album name or artists erros, make some notes to myself to help search/browse. Where does this data reside - with the song file or the library file or somewhere else? BTW I don't download the cover artwork from iTunes. I just find it online and copy and paste it into the metadata window. I have too many obscure albums to rely on iTunes.
The reason I ask is because I double backup my music and iTunes files. Normally, when I rip new albums I just add the new files and updated library files to me backup hard drives, by sorting by the modified date. But I'm now going back and editing all of my oder albums/songs metadata as I just described. In order to make sure this information gets backed up I'm simply backing up the entire iTunes Music folder, which takes all night cause it's around 500GBs. But I'd prefer to only add the modified files to the backup, which usually only takes a few moments.
When I sort by modified date the albums/songs I edited metadata for do not show up as modified that day. So, is it pointless to always backup the entire folder when all I have to do is back up what was modified? And if so, what are those files?
Also, is there a good app that will compare two hard drives and keep them in synch? So that I can basically do what I want to do automagically? Set one as the master and one as the backup, and ahve the app always synch the backup to the master. That would be nice!

If you're not downloading artwork from iTunes, all of the tags and artwork are stored with the individual song files. Some iTunes-specific data, like play count and rating, are stored in the iTunes Library database file.

  • Where is the iPhoto Library

Where does iPhoto (9.4.2)  store the photos? How do I access that file. I checked under the LIBRAY file and there is nothing in there for iPhoto. Where is the library?
    Thanks!

iPhoto Library is stored in Pictures folder unless you've changed the folder of your library

  • Where does the View Controller reside ?

    Hi Gurus,
Some basic doubts : I can't see the View and Window Controllers in SE80 . Where does it reside ? or it can only be reffered through code.
    Thanks in advance

The controllers can be accessed only by code, calling the wd_get_api on the wd_this, wd_comp_controller attributes.
Ofcourse, you can check the interface methods etc of  if_wd_view_controller in se24.

  • Where does the banner info reside in the database

When you create a page and check display banner to on, you can edit the banner by adding links etc.
Does anyone know where the links are actually stored in the database ?

    Hi Binosn,
Thanks for your interest and reply.
Wanted to know some more details regarding the document publisher.
How does the backend push the report to the Gateway, is there also a queue maintained in the backend system which processes the report requests asynchronously or the Gateway report publisher pulls them synchronously or is there any component necessary to be installed in the backend system for processing reports?
Is the document publisher feature a gateway feature or a Duet Enterprise specific feature?
Please suggest some material for further details if available.

  • Does the iPhoto Library contain all my pictures?

Forgive me if this is a trivial question I am a new iPhoto user.
When I import into my library my old jpg files stay there but then I get this new file in my Photos folder called iPhoto Library which is rather large in size.
Can I safely delete the JPG files then since it appears all my photos are stored in this one file?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes. Unless you've disabled it from the iPhoto preferences, anything added to iPhoto is placed in that package.

  • Where does the INI file reside?

I've seen lots of forum posts on using the Properties class to read an INI file, but nothing on locating the INI file in the file system. Most of the examples use a hard-coded simplistic path (c:\temp\myapp.ini) or just the file name with no path.
From my meager knowledge of Java, I think the INI file should be deployed in the package directory with rest of the class files for the package. At any rate, the Java class reading the INI file cannot have a hard-coded directory path since the path may vary from install to install.
What Java statements can be used to identify the path for the run-time package? Where is the best place to place the INI file?
    Thanks,
    Paul

You put it somewhere in your classpath, as you describe. Then this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/myapp.ini")gets you an InputStream from which you can read its contents.

  • Where does the inactive object reside?

    Hi
I am new to abap. I want to know when we create a object in the data dictionary, where is it stored?
I do know that when we activate the object a same replica is created in the database having the syntax valid in the database.
I just want to know if i have created one object which is not activated where it will be stored?
    Thanks,
    Sarbjeet Singh

    Hi Sarabjeet,
When a program/objects  is created without saving till that time it is only in application sever and thereafter when are you pressing
'SAVE' , then only it is stored to the backend database as inactivate version.
While code changing (modifications) both inactive and active versions are stored in the database.
When it is inactive(if you are executing it alone ), only you can use it not other system users(Note:  you can't use one inactive versions object in another active objects.)
Once it is activated, all other users of same client can use your Program/objects.

Try man syslog. I'm not sure where to look for all the keywords, but I got this to work first time:
    macbook:~ michaelc$ syslog -k Sender ntpd

Note that syslog with no arguments gives you everything
