Where has my itunes gone from my computer

i have turned on my computer this morning to upload a CD. However my itunes isnt showing on my desktop and i cannot find it anywhere.
Soooooo F in frustrating.
I have recently downloaded Skype. Would this have anything to do with it.?

How ironic as my daughter is re-loading every single song back on her laptop.  Coincidence that it occurred on the same day?  I don't have any answers as we scramble to turn on our family sharing ....now if we can just find that switch

Where has sleep iPod gone from the timer menu?

Hey, thank you very much for the clarification.
I just performed a quick test. If the iPod doesn't have any programs running it will indeed go to sleep after the "stop playing" timer ends. But if I'm playing music the "stop playing" timer will only stop playing the music when the timer ends, but will not actually put the iPod to sleep. Same goes for watching videos, the timer only stops playing the video but does not put the iPod to sleep.
The "sleep iPod" option, on the other hand, actually put the iPod to sleep when the timer ended.
The "stop playing" option only stops an app from playing media but does not put the iPod to sleep.
Why did Apple change the option from "sleep iPod" to "stop playing"?
How do I put my iPod to sleep now?
    Thanks!

  • Where has my song gone from iTunes library

My purchased song has a ! symbol next to it and won't play - says The song “Bayini (Live)” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?  It works on my phone and iPad but not my Mac and how do I find it - doesn't seem to exist on my Mac.

    Hello Snefne,
Deleting the entry from iTunes on your Mac and redownloading it from the iTunes Store should allow the song to play.

  • 160G iPod, iTunes gone from old computer, New LapTop???

Where do I go from here. The old computer is not an option. I want to download the newest version of iTunes into my new laptop, but have a couple of concerns with the idea.
    1. Will it be too much for my laptop?
    2. If I successfully download iTunes & then hook up my iPod to it, is there the chance that what I have on my iPod could be wiped out?

You should probably post your questions in the iTunes forums:

  • Where has my backup gone (from iPad to a Mac)?

I recently synced my adressbook from my MacMini to my iPad, but when the process starts it says that it will take a security copy. My internal harddrive memory started to decrease but nothing happened with the iTunes Library the iPad was synced to! This library was located on an external harddrive.
Another time recently I made a full synchronization. Since last time I synced I had downloaded some apps directly to my iPad though AppStore, but these new apps did not appear in the library I synced to. I have no idea where the copies of these apps in the iTunesMedia-folder are. Only apps from an older sync are there. So where is my backup of the latest apps? Why was my internal harddrive memory space decreasing during the security backup process? (The "new" backuped files are definitely not on my internal hard drive even if he memory space decreased.) Do anybody have any idea what happened? Or is this a serious bug in iTunes 10.1.1 which I recently downloaded. My impression is that the problem starts after installing this iTunes-version.

    - The backup file is stored in a different location than your media library and there is no way to change the location of the backup file. You can find the location of the backup file here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    - Although apps usually transfer to your computer, you should try to do it manually. see:

  • Where has the date gone from iMovie 11 events?

In iMovie 08 the date of the event is shown in the Event Library pane, in small text underneath the name of the event. But in iMovie 11 the date isn't shown. Is there a way to show it like in iMovie 08?
This is a real pain. I've just imported a years worth of video from my camera, and split days into events. The problem is all the events have the same name (todays date). Is there a way to import video and for the events to be automatically titled with the date the video was taken?
    Thanks

    Hi
Sorry there has been a misunderstanding.
When importing video into iMovie one of the options is to split days into seperate events. This is what I've done and iMovie has split my movie clips into 157 seperate days, which is great. But in the left hand panel, called 'Event Library' all my 157 events have the same name which isn't great and worse in iMovie 11 the date of the event isn't displayed under the events name (in iMovie 08 it didn't matter too much that my events all had the same name, because the date of the event / clip was displayed under the events name).
    My questions are:
    - is it possible in iMovie 11 to display the date underneath the events name in the Event Library panel (like in iMovie 08)?
    - is it possible to import video and split days into separate events and for the events to be automatically named with the date of the day they were taken?
    Thanks for any help

  • Where has the menu gone from the top-left of the window?

In the latest Firefox (I can't tell what version, there's no Help icon or About entry anywhere I can find) the menu that used to sit in the top-left of the window has now gone. Some add-ons used to add menu entries there. Since you removed it, now I can't use those add-ons. How do I access these menu items now?

For the equivalent of the Firefox button, click the ≡ Menu Button near the top right corner of the window.
For the Help menu, click the ≡ Menu Button, then the Question Mark icon near the bottom right of the panel that opens. You can also press Alt+H to bring up the Help menu on the menu bar.
For add-on icons, right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize.

    WHERE HAS MY MUSIC GONE??

    jello,
the replacement policy is very clear.
Here are some steps from reverse syncing
Use your iPod and iTunes 7
With iTunes 7 you can transfer iTunes Store purchases that are synced with your iPod to any authorized computer. Let's say from your home to your work computer. Here are the steps to "reverse sync" purchases from your iPod.
Make sure that you are using the latest version of iTunes 7 and iPod software.
Authorize your computer by choosing Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes.
Attach your iPod to the computer that contains purchases.
From the File menu, choose Transfer Purchases from iPod.
You shouldn't have to hook up your iPod each time, once they've been transferred back.

  • Moving an iTunes library from one computer to another that isn't consolidated

My iTunes library is made up of music from a variety of sources. This is due to the files being stored on a server and organised in folders in a particular way already.
I want to transfer my iTunes library to a brand new computer, but am aware it may have trouble remembering where the files are if they aren't consolidated. Any clues as the best way to do this?
The files are all stored on the server, but as said previously in various folders so the new computer will have access to all of them.
I have the 'copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library' setting switched OFF.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Actually I would rather use my iPod, because this shouldn't be that hard. We'll just say, I have everything on my iPod from my former itunes library on my other computer...but every time it tells me to drag out the itunes folder from this computer and put it on the desktop, it just goes right back into the My Music folder before I can put the itunes folder from my ipod into the music folder. And even when I do, it asks if i would like to merge the folders...so what does that entail if i do?
This is between my new computer with vista and my old computer which has xp...so yeah.

  • Trandferring iTunes library from old computer to new computer

How do I transfer files from my old computer to my new computer. I have copied my music library to an external hard drive and copied it to my new computer. However, I have lost most of the album artwork. Also, I am showing multiple copies of the same album, but each album has a song or two only. I encountered this problem previously when I first loaded my CDs onto my computer. I spent countless hours fixing that mess and it now appears that I am faced with having to redo it. Help anyone.

How to Copy and Move (Clone) your iTunes Library from One Computer to Another – or Archive Prior to a PC Re-Image or Reformat
This well-written iLounge Article is a must-read for anyone considering moving their Library to a new computer or a new location. Or, just wants a better understanding of how iTunes manages your music.
Below is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply and adapt it to your specific situation and equipment resources.
The safest, quickest, and most optimal method to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder (directory) structure, rather than just copying just the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important ‘iTunes Library.itl’ database file (usually located in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move (copy) the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "…\My Documents\My Music" folder from the old computer to the exact same place (both Drive Letter and complete Path) on the new computer. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will look and behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play Counts, Ratings, Comments and all!
NOTE: It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
iTunes Files to Copy and Move to your New PC (for iPod, iTouch &/or iPhone – use as needed)
    1) All Music Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) All Application Files in their current folder structure (usually located in the ‘Mobile Applications’ folder)
    3) All Album Artwork Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘Album Artwork’ folder)
    4) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    5) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    6) The iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files, also in the ‘iTunes’ folder
Some additional files to consider also include in a backup:
    7) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    8) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    i) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    ii) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    9) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”
    10) The folder(s) used to store and sync photos to your iPhone (if applicable)
    11) The iTunes created Backup of your iPhone usually located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
    1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step. Also great to have available for complete backups of your Library. External hard drives now run less than $100 for 500GBs-1TB of storage. See This Link
    2) Directly connect the two computers:
2a) Connect them through a Router &/or Network
2b) Directly connect using an Ethernet cable: Straight for using at least one Mac; or Crossover for PC/PC Instructions here.
2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. Example here. There are various types out there (use Google).
--Then copy the files from one computer to the other.
    3) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. It will be a bit easier if your iPod has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.).
    4) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and folder structure, and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
    5) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #4 above and load the files and folders on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
    6) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files and folders. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.
These are links to various additional instructions on performing the transfer (read them all, but some listed steps may not be required depending on your specific situation):

  • How can I remove an iTunes account from a computer I'm giving away?

How do I remove my iTunes account from a computer that I am giving to a student in my school? I want the music I purchased to play, but I don't want the student to have access to my email address or my credit card that is tied to "my account". I went through the steps to deauthorize a computer but encountered two problems:  1) The only command offered was "deauthorize all". There was no list of the authorized computers where I could check a box to select the one to deauthorize.  2) If I want to leave the music with the computer, but remove the authorization.

If you are giving the computer away you should not include music you've purchased: the purchase doesn't include the right to make copies to give to other people, which is what you would in effect be doing. The same applies to any purchased sofrtware which wasn't bundled with the computer when new.
The proper procedure when selling or giving a computer is to erase it completely and restore it to its out-of-the-box condition from the original disks. You should also make sure to include the disks which came with the computer.

  • How can i transfer my iTunes library from old computer to new with all artwork and tags intact?

Is it possible to just copy the iTunes folder on my Windows PC from the old computer to a hard drive and then to the new Mac Book, and have the library look the same?  Importing the files using the "add folder to library" function results in many files coming up with "unknown artist" and/or "unknown album."  But I didn't think just copying the iTunes folder from one computer to the other would work, without somehow also using the "add folder to library" function.
I know there are other questions on site (one by me, actually), but I was hoping for any more information.  Many thanks, in advance.

FYI, just in case anyone sees this and has the same problem, I posted another question beginning with the words "How can I get all music "tags" to transfer . . . " which outlines a solution.  Good luck to anyone with the same issue - the transfer can be done!
