Where has places gone from iPhoto in the new PHOTOS now ?

I have all my Travel Pictures on places , which helps me find the exact pictures I need . Where is that gone on the new PHOTOS ?

Unfortunately, places support in Photos is almost nonexistent. The Years/Collections/Moments views (command +1) combine date & places into groupings, but you have no control over that. You can search on a place name, which may help find all the photos from a specific location, but unless you do something like create an album from those results, there isn't much Photos offers in this respect.
Also note that you can see location data but not change it, nor can you add location data to items that don't already have it.
If you want these features back, please send Apple feedback.

  • Mad about losing events from iphoto with the new "photos" app

I have over 300,000 pics that where neatly organized into iphoto events.  I stupidly updated unknowingly to the latest osx and poof! my events are crap now.  I found some half assed somewhat similar looking attempt at what where once events in the app.. but the pics are not how I had them at all.. I have art with family funerals, animals, vacations and inappropriate things together in no way does it make any sense and I cannot pull up a pic i want with any ease because I have no idea how to find them anymore.  I am really upset about this.  please if anyone knows a way to restore some semblance of the events I previously had, let me know... But yeah, I did not back up before updating.. so that won't help

When you open it go to preferences>general and set iPhoto as the default for camera uploads.

  • Import video from iPhoto to the new iMovie

how does one import video from iPhoto video to i Movie for a project. This used to be simple.

In the CONTENT LIBRARY (bottom left) you should see an iPhoto item which when clicked gives you access to your iPhoto library.  Does this not include videos?  (I don't use iPhoto so cannot check).

  • Lost photos: icloud msg - deleted photos - gone from iphoto too- help, lost photos: icloud msg - deleted photos - gone from iphoto too- help

HELP! It appears as though I have lost most of my photos from 2012/13. Could be any number of issues. Most likely: i-cloud sent me a msg saying I was running out of space and suggested I make room by deleting stuff. I did. I deleted photos as I thought I had them all on i-photo. Now they're just gone. I've checked my different libraries. I tried to open a library I backed up to an external hard drive but it wouldn't open, saying I needed to update using updater. I installed up-dater. Nothing happened. Still get the same message. And now I can't open iphoto at all. Was updated when I installed Maverick, was it not? Anyway, app store says its updated. So perhaps the issue is Maverick?

You might get better results asking in the iPhoto forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto.

  • How do i get photos sent via email into the new photos app in yosemite 10.10.3

Using mail on my mac, having upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 i now cant import photos sent via email into the new photos app. if i highlight the photo in mail and right click the mouse the option is still to export to iPhoto !!

I was clicking on the photo, so thanks for telling me about the save icon - unfortunately this still tries to open up and save to iPhoto the same as clicking on the image but my photos have been moved from iPhoto to the new photos app as part of the update to 10.10.3 Yosemite. Although it also gives me the option to save other places i cant work out how to save into the photo app

  • Downloaded yosemite and my iPhotos pics now appear as a grey square and triangle with an ! in it with in the new photos program

I have a mac book pro and i just downloaded yosemite. after i downloaded yosemite i went to the new photos program as he iPhoto icon was no longer there and i followed the instructions. i then opened my pics and they all seemed to be there but when i enlarge them or double click on them all i see is a grey screen with a grey square with a grey triangle with an exclamation point in it. so in reality the pics aren't really there! maybe they are somewhere else but i do not know.
just so you know: before i downloaded yosemite i did all the upgrades my computer said i needed to do, no iPhoto upgrade was listed. i didn't do any specific backup before downloaded yosemite but i do have a time machine connected to the computer so i do believe that i therefore have a backup. i am not exactly sure what version iPhoto i had but perhaps my iPhoto and the new photos program are not compatible. i say that because when i went into applications and clicked on iPhoto (as it was listed there) it said "in order to open "iPhoto" you need to update to the latest version. the version of iPhoto installed on this mac is not compatible with os x yosemite. download the latest version for free from the mac app store." so i searched the app store and it says that version is not available. the app store does list iPhoto in my purchased products but it only says update and not download. i clicked on update it doesn't appear to do anything but do a spinning circle for a few seconds and then nothing further. i don't know what to do next! what happened and how do i go about fixing this problem?

The exclamation mark means that the app has lost the link to the actual file.
First step: try and make sure the iPhoto Library is working correctly:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Deleting Aperture After Migrating to the New Photos App

I've just migrated my photos from Aperture to the new Photos application. Can I delete Aperture now without worrying that it will delete the shared library?

In theory yes, but I would ensure I had a backup of the library (and Aperture) on external drive or a clone of the current disk.
Personally I would hold off deleting anything at this stage until you've managed to throughly test Photos to see it both meets your needs and the library has migrated properly.

  • I just updated my iPhone 4s to iOS8 and the weather is missing from my notification center. Where has it gone and how do I get it back?

I just updated my iPhone 4s to iOS8 and the weather is missing from my notification center. Where has it gone and how do I get it back?

Scroll down on the Notification page and there is a button at the bottom
labelled 'Edit'. Tap that button and you can add the weather back as well
as choose other things to display.

Had hard drive renewed due to product recall (iMac) backed up complete system on time machine . Had the drive done got mac back tried to reinstall from time machine .The new drive tells me that the space has been taken up but can't find where the file have gone. Need to free up the space that the ghost file take up so I can drag drop from ex drive onto harddrive

    Here's the scoop, new friend.....
When you boot into Time Machine you'll get the same OS X Utilities screen as you would if you booted into the Recovery HD. So, from there go into Disk Utilities to erase/format your internal drive. After that's done, back out to the OS X Utilities screen and select the restore option. Just follow the prompts to select the TM back up date you want to restore from and where to restore it to. Pretty straight forward.

  • Has anyone gone from a camera similar to the SX200 to the G15 or G16 and what have you thought?

I have the SX 200 and am not satisfied with the reaction time.
I am looking into the G16 but am reluctant to spend $450 on it
not really knowing if it is worth it.
Has anyone gone from a camera similar to the sx200 to the g16 and was
    it worth it?
    thanks
    Karen

I assume you're shooting his swing which is a form of action photography. If I'm right the best way to improve your results is to improve your technique, which costs nothing but takes a bit of thinking & practice. Thinking because you need to understand what settings fit the situation & how to set the camera to them. Technique comes into play when it comes to holding the camera STEADY, which is rarely done while using the LCD to frame the shot if hand holding. I don't own either of your choices but have a G9 which I've used for years but mostly as my underwater camera but even it would be an improvement over your SX200. The SX200 has a "slow" lens (f3.5 max aperture) while the G16 has f1.8 which is twice as fast (requires half the light all other settings being the same) which means under the same lighting conditions the G16 will use a shutter speed that's twice as fast as the SX200 would. Right now you only get 1 FPS (frame per second) while the G16 can do from 6 to 12 FPS depending on settings & having good light. More importantly it has a viewfinder (electronic) which allows you to hold it against your face to frame & time the shot AND keeps it more stable. You would however loose some of your current lens reach because the G16 only has about 1/2 the telephoto reach.
If you take the time to read these articles I've wrote for a couple of other forums I belong to it might help you understand why things work the way they do & why developing technique is the key to better photos.
