Where have all my files gone?

I have about 3400 songs in Itumes. Or I should say had. Now, many but not all songs seem to have vaporized. When I click on a song title I get the message, " Cannot find file etc. would you like to locate it" words to that effect. What is going on here? I have created several Playlists. When you designate a song for a Playlist, is it removed from its previous file? I don't think so as songs I have checked ( I can't Search for all of them) don't seem to be anywhere. This goes even for songs purchased from the Itunes store. Ahhhhh! Could some generous knowledgeable soul out there please tell me why this happened and is there any other way to correct it other than simply deleting all current files and importing the entire library again? If I lose Purchased songs ( there are a few I didn't back up yet) will Apple allow another download? I can guess the answer to that one. Anyway, This is a monstrous pain. Is it better to manage the song files yourself or allow Apple to do it? Thanks.

I have idea that may prevent you ever losing your music files again. Itunes has it's own folder in my music, However did you know if you change the the name of the file location in itunes to put them in the normal location as where windows media puts them in stead of your music files being put in the itunes folder in my music. Alsoi f you ever ripped Cd's a music play such as Musicmatch/Yahoo the Media player will automatically seach & add these files to the windows media player library. I don't have my music files located in the itunes folder & never did & I have never had a file disapear. I Just think alot of the problem is you may allowing itunes to put your files it it's own location rather than Have them in my Music folder. I sometimes delete that stupid Itunes folder in my music because I don't need or use it. I Throught about letting itunes put my files in that folder, but it seems a lot people are have problems with vanishing libraries & it could be that everyone is letting itunes put them their folder. Just this could make a differance.

Just upgraded to ios7 and want to listen to BBc Global news podcast as I do every single morning and it is not there - where have all my podcasts gone? If I had known this would happen I would NEVER have upgraded.. Help!

As of iTunes 11.1 and iOS7, podcast files will no longer play in the Music app on the iPhone (this is very annoying, but that's the way it is).
The two easiest options are probably:
What Apple wants you to do: download and install their free Podcasts app onto your iOS device. In theory your podcasts, including the BBC news one, should sync onto the Podcasts app. This is supposed to "Just work", and if it just works for you, well, congratulations, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case for most posters in this forum.
What I'm leaning towards: for all podcasts in iTunes, Get Info, and change them from "Media Kind = Podcasts" to "Media Kind = Audiobook". That will allow them to sync to the Music app. Then you'll have to arrange smart playlists or whatever to sync those (ex-)"podcasts" to your Music app.

Maybe everything they were supporting has been merged into the kernel tree? Or outright refused...

  • Help! When I open Lightroom 4 ,  all my files are gone. It is exactly the way it was when I received it: empty. Nothing. Where are all  my files gone?

I am a panic mode. All my work, from day is GONE from my lightroom 4' library. No keyword, no thumbnails, no catalogue, no nothing. Lightroom went virgin overnight. What happened? How could this be possible?
When I go to file, open catalogue it leads me to my desktop. I do have some files there, but this is not my library.
Please , I desparately need your help: several years of work there!

Hmmm.  Relaunch iPhoto holding the option key, see if you have an alternate Library available here.
You can restore through Time Machine, or a boot clone.

  • Revel where have all the photos gone?

Okay I am very upset that my picture files have gone to Revel.  I do not know how to find them. I need these pictures for work I am doing. What in the world allows you to take these files from my PC, not Mac, and store them somewhere else!
    AGA

    AGA-
I would like to help clarify what is happening with Revel. Revel does not take files from your Mac or PC. The only files that moved are ones from Photoshop.com to Revel. Cloud - to - cloud. The only way they could disappear from your computer that I can think of is if you deleted them or you had Elements syncing to your Photoshop.com account and you deleted them from Photoshop.com before syncing.
Emails were sent out to users explaining that Photoshop.com was about to be discontinued, and informing users that their files would be migrated to Revel unless they opted out. This was done as a courtesy so that users could have a means of saving all their photos (jpg) on the cloud for viewing and sharing without having to go to the effort of archiving and re-uploading. Additional  emails went out closer to the time. The opt out period has ended and we are in the transition period actively migrating photos to Revel.
If you had photos on Photoshop.com and their migration is complete (you would receive an email), then go to adoberevel.com on a a browser and login the same way you did in photoshop.com...with an adobe id(email) and password. Your files will either be in a library  called photoshop.com library or in one called <your first name>'s library.
If you need more assistance, please let me know.

  • Ghost of a Iphoto 6 library...where have all my photos gone?

Help! Most of my photos in my library seem to have dissapeared - or in other words - are not displaying. When I go to the underlying databases all my photos appear to be there however. Also, in iPhoto on the bottom of the screen it says 728 items (6028 total) which confirms that my missing photos are in there somewhere.
To make things more confusing, all of the albums and folders I have created over the past two years still display many of the photos that the library does not.
I have tried re-importing some of the photos from the originals in the data base and this allows me to access the images and put them in a new folder - but they still refuse to show up in the library.
Unfortunately, I do not have database backups prior to the start of the problem.
Any tips to how to get my photos to re-appear?
    Thanks!

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If that fails you may have a damaged database:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Where have all the downloads gone ...

    Hello:
I installed Acrobat 9.0.0 from scratch, and then, I updated to 9.2.0. However, I would like to save the download file, but I have no idea (and have not been able to find out) where the download file went. I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Would anyone know?
Alternatively, or as  supplement, where could I actually download 9.2.0? Adobe's website is not the easies, i believe.
    Thanks,
    Hans L

The updates from within Acrobat are stored locally (I have no idea where, but probably in your user temp folder). The downloads for manual installation are not cummulative and have to be installed in order. They are found on the http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ site with a click on the "product updates" in small print just below the readers and players icons on the right. They almost seem like they are trying to hide the updates. The new layout is definitely not as easy to use as the older menu based layout.

  • Where have all the Stars gone?

    Hello all,
I have just realised that all the Stars by Posters' names have disappeared. Would love to know why that may have happened. Thanks.

    Hi ljm,
The Star (Kudo) feature is enabled for the majority of the forum boards, however this feature is disabled in the Lounge and Forum Guidance boards.
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers

  • Where have all the people gone?

Several years ago (5+) all the other web-tier forums (JSP,JSTL,Servlets) were flooded with questions everyday. So why are they so quiet nowadays? Does this reflect the trend of moving towards different technologies like web-services and SOA or are people using different languages? Or perhaps, have programmers just gotten more experienced?

Very good question. I don't believe that the lack of contributors is due to people gaining experience as there will always be people learning. I believe it is more due to the technologies that are now being used. Struts and Spring-MVC for instance perform a lot of the work for you. And if you are using some good plugins in your IDE, you might not even see the guts of the Struts/Spring app. I built a basic Struts and Hibernate app a while ago using NetBeans 6.7 and it was easy.
Now I'm back to working on a Servlet and having problems... not because Servlets suck, but because some of the other frameworks I've used in the past hid a lot of the inner workings from me and I never really learned them.
Maybe the rise of C#, Ruby on Rails and Grails may also having something to do with it... I've never found developing Java web apps an overly quick process, but I'm not an expert. People rave about the "ease and simplicity" of RoR... maybe they know something I (we) don't.

  • Where have all the Gurus gone?

If the DW gurus are not going to be in this forum answering questions, where can we find them? Did they start their own forum?

The community of the NNTP was a key DW asset
    Agreed.
DW is greatly diminished by the adobe takeover
Disagree.  I think that Adobe has done very well with it.  The more dynamic sites that are now on the web I think diminish the value of DW to some extent.
killing off  the NNTP will further hasten the demise of dw
Disagree.  The experts that were on the NNTP were more of an "bonus feature" that came along with DW.  Many have made the jump to the new forums.
Lets be straight here, dw needs lots of user support for the less than expert
I'd say that web design and development needs user support for everyone...even the experts.
dw with adobe's management is certain to die
It's a little early to start jumping to conclusions over a forum change that is still in its infancy.  Give it some time.  People that left will come back and if they chose not to...that is fine.  They are more than entitled to do what they please. New users will emerge over time.

  • IPhoto 11:  Where have all my labels gone?

I'm using an iMac running OS 10.7.5 (Lion).  I don't recall when I last updated iPhoto, but my current version is iPhoto 11.  In previous versions of iPhoto each photo in my multiple libraries was identified (below the photo) by a specific jpeg #, which could be edited or changed to a descriptive title instead.   iPhoto 11 does not appear to identify library photos by jpeg number and will not allow me to add decriptions below any photo.  Additionally, descriptions that I have added to iPhoto libraries in previous years (presumably using earlier versions of the program) are no longer visible when viewing these older  libraries with iPhoto 11.  Titling photos is kind of important to be able to recall what they depict.  Can anyone suggest a way to remedy this situation?  Eg.:  Can iPhoto 11 be configured or reset to allow captions?  (I suspect not.)  Can I reinstall an older version of iPhoto (one that allowed captioning) and delete iPhoto 11?  (Again I suspect not).  Would a 3rd party program (such as Adobe Photoshop Elements) allow me to both organize and title my photos?

A quick and easy way to see which keywords are added to a photo is to select the thumbnail and type Command + K.  That will bring up the keyword pane and all blue keywords are assigned to that photo.
You can also add keywords to the photo and then advance to the next photo with the arrow keys on the keyboard.

  • Where have all the details gone?

I have updated to the latest iTunes 7.0.1. Just the other day, I duplicated my iMac's entire hard disk to an external drive. Wanting be certain the duplicate was functional (I'm paranoid like that), I deleted a song from my (iMac) iTunes library to see if I could play it from the external. No problem. However, now I seem to have lost all iTunes columns except name; no artist, album, genre, etc. Only the "name" remains listed in either the iMac's or external's copy of iTunes; giving me one long alphabetical list of song titles. All columns remain when I select my iPod from what used to be termed the "Source" column. The columns have been retained on my iBook (also w/ iTunes 7.0.1). Any idea what happened to my columns and whether I can retrieve them?
Oh, and View Options has effects no change.
    Thanks, staigl

Here's more...all of the columns remain everywhere BUT under Library>Music. Put another way,
When a cd is in the Mac, the columns show up when I select Devices.
If I select Shared Music, the columns are there too.
Choose a playlist or iPod...voila, columns.
Any idea what happened and whether the column info can be recovered for Library>Music?
    Thanks again.

  • Where have all the moderators gone........

    Long time passing..............

Well, I tried and failed. Like a child, I volunteered, but without luck as they seem to prefer SAP employees only!
Really? I'm both a Moderator and Mentor...And not an SAP Employee...I think it depends on your participation in the Community...The more you participate, the more you get goodies -;)
BTW...I have been away from SCN for two strong reasons...
1.- Need to spent time with my wife and daugther.
2.- Projects are getting harder and no time for the web.

  • Where have all the playlists gone??

I went to use my iPod nano, I wanted to select a playlist...but none of them were there! All it said was **[my name]**'s iPod Selection. None of the others were there, not even the ones it does automatically like Top 25 Most Played and My Top Rated. Please help!!!
    iPod nano

By any chance is your iTunes library bigger than the storage space on your nano?
That iPod selection playlist is one that iTunes automatically creates if this is the case.
