Where is address bar location, to type "about:config"

I go to a particular website, it takes more than 5 seconds to load, and Forefox gives me this annoying "unresponsive script," knocking me off the site because continuing button never works.
I wish to change to 20 second wait, but I'm not a computer technician. Help!

Be careful if you disable that warning by setting the value to 0.<br />
If something goes wrong then you either have to wait a long time or force the browser to close via the task manager and may need to start Firefox in [[Safe mode]].

There is a check in the navigation box but there is still no address bar. The only thing that is where the address bar should be is speed dial icon. Above that is file, edit, history, etc, Below the speed dial icon there is most visited, getting started, latest headlines. below that are the tabs

Could you attach a screen shot of the "speed dial?"

Make sure you completely close Firefox first. When you get to the Safe Mode window, select Reset toolbars and controls and then Make Changes and Restart.
    Hope this helps!

  • Suppressing IE Address Bar (Location Bar) - Weird event

Hi. We use the following code to call other stand-alone web forms from a single, main application. Each application has it's own web.show_document code. In the example below a call to a form name 'dropper_em' is called.
It also passes the username and password in the call and it specifies several options for controlling the IE window it opens the called form in - most importantly location=no. This option keeps the username and password from being displayed when the new form opens:
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT ('javascript:void(window.open("http://9.35.32.205:7777/forms/frmservlet?pageTitle=Dropper E/M&config=TTMSMENU&form=dropper_em&userid='me/mypass@mystring'","","resizable=yes,location=no,toolbar=no,menubar=no,status=no,"));self.close()','_blank');
However, on one particular computer when the new form is opened the location bar is not shown, but instead what appears to look like a Internet Explorer drop list item is displayed - and it's displaying the entire URL including the username and password!! We have many other users who are able to open the form without this problem.
What in the world could be causing this issue for only 1 user? Help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know anything about hiding the address bar, but I hope this application does not contain sensitive data as including the username/password in plain text in the URL (whether it's visible or not) is not very secure...

  • Battling claro-search. Address bar no longer displays "About Home". Instead I get "Go to Website" Problem?

I have been battling Claro-search. I have tried all displayed fixes including running Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Every time I restart Firefox 16.0.1 the claro-search items show up in "About:config". My concern is that the address bar displays, "Go to Website" when it previously displayed "About Home". I have also tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox using a download from Mozilla site. Any suggestions? Thanks. Paul

  • When I type about:config, a list shows up how do I delete an item from that list?

How do I delete items that come up when on the address line I type About:config

You can reset a pref to the default value via the right-click context menu.<br />
Then that pref will be removed if you close and restart Firefox in case that pref doesn't exist by default (i.e. type is string and shows nothing in the value field after the reset).<br />
Prefs that have a default or a user set value can't be removed.
*Use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
**Preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
*Preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: New -> String, Integer, Boolean

I am having a thought. Can you access your Firefox profile folder?
Open the file; '''prefs.js''' with a text editor. Than add the entry
Example from my profile; '''user_pref("BlockSite.removeLinks", true);'''

  • In the address bar, how do you get rid of the Amazon button, the "e-pub catalogue" button and change my search button to Google vs Babylon? Where is the button beside the forward arrow that would allow you to see your current history of links?

On my address bar, there is now a superfluous Amazon button at the right of the forward arrow where there used to be a button that would allow you to see your recent links. It's gone. In addition there is a useless "epub catalog" button and the search button is Babylon instead of Google. How do I go back to my working address bar.

Right click the Back / Forward buttons to get a list of sites you visited.
To reinstate Google as your search engine, do the following.
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config '''and hit Enter.
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=
    * Go to File | Exit
    * Restart Firefox, go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
    * Go to '''Tools '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''EDIT''': Remove the AmAzon button by right clicking a blank part of the tab bar and click '''Customize'''. Then drag it into the panel which opens.

  • In the previous version of FF I could type a term in the address bar and it would auto open that website, now it just performs a google search. Is that a setting I can adjust or is it not available anymore?

In the previous version of FF I could type a term in the address bar and it would auto open that website, now it just performs a google search. Is that a setting I can adjust or is it not available anymore?

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below

If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name
