Where is AirDrop on my MacBook?

I have Lion installed on both my Mac Pro and my MacBook.  Both are connected to the same WiFi network, and are within a few feet of each other.  On my MacPro, when I open a Finder window one of the items in the Sidebar, directly under "All My Files", is AirDrop.  However, AirDrop does not appear in a finder window on my MacBook.  Where is it?  Thanks!
Bob

Your MacBook is likely too old. AirDrop depends on newer (mid to late 2010) Airport cards that can run regular WiFi at the same time as an ad hoc network.

How do I AirDrop between my MacBook Air (OS 10.10.1 Yosemite) and my iPhone 5s (vs 8.1.2)?
Bluetooth & wifi (same wifi) are turned ON for both my iPhone & laptop.
On the iPhone, I have selected a Camera photo to AirDrop and I see the AirDrop icon above the apps Message, Mail, Twitter, etc. but I don't see an option to actually AirDrop it onto the laptop.
On the laptop (MacBook Air w/Yosemite), I'm in the Finder and have selected AirDrop, but to devices revealed in the window.
    What am I missing??????

Which MacBook Air do you have? It must be a 2010 or newer according to this article: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203106

  • Airdrop iPhone to MacBook Pro

I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.
I have a MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite 10.10.
I can airdrop from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone without any problem.
I can however to airdrop from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro - the iPhone doesn't see the MacBook Pro.
Funny enough, I have exactly the same problem with my iPad. Works fine MacBook Pro to iPad, iPad doesn't see the MacBook Pro.
And in both instances, on the MacBook Pro, I am in the Airdrop window in Finder and can see both my devices.
    What am I missing here?

Over the course of the last year or so - these Apple User forums have grown nearly useless... Even common issues often receive no replies at all of any worth.
Here I am searching and searching, trying to figure out why I cannot airdrop from my iPhone 6 to my macbook Pro that is running 10.10.1... and thread after thread has little or no info at all.

Are you seeking a new unit or refurbished?
Apple discontinued production and sales of new MacBooks to all but education sources during 2011.
And education sales were discontinued about 2 months ago:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2012/02/08/white-macbook-reaches-end-of-life-education-sales -to-cease/
If you want a new MacBook, you might be able to find unsold units or demo units in stock at college stores or electronics retailers.
Refurbished MacBooks are still available occasionally through the Apple Store Refurbs. They are listed in the store when refurbished units are available, and are removed from the store when they sell out, often within a matter of a few hours: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac
At the moment I'm posting, there are none listed.
And there are a number of sources for used MacBooks that you can locate with any popular search engine. I purchased my refurbished MacBook directly from the Apple Store online several years ago.

Where can I download a macbook pro install dvd for my Macbook pro 2.2 because i lost mine...

I don't think you can actually download the install DVD. If you call Apple they can send you the install DVD for a nominal fee +S&H. You will need to provide them with the serial number for your Mac to see if it's registered to you.

  • Where is iphoto on my macbook?

Where is iPhoto on my MacBook? I thought iPhoto was standard to Apple products, but I bought this MacBook and it has no iPhoto. Is that unusual?

The first owner should have given you all installation media as well. If the System installation CD/DVD includes the iLife applications, you can install them from this by installing only the bundled iLife applications.
Also, if the original system did not include the iLife apps, and the prevoius bought them separately, he/she has to erase them before selling the mac, as required by the licence.
But the version of iPhoto that came with the mac, if any,  will probably only be iLife '9 and not iLife '11.
To get the full use out of iPhoto with your current Mac OS Version Mt. Lion, you would be much better of by buying the current version  iPhoto '11 from the App Store. The upgrade from  iLife '9 and not iLife '11 is not free, it is a major new release. And Mt. Lion does not include the iLife applications. They have to be bought separately.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To register your MacBook Pro to your Apple ID, open http://supportprofile.apple.com, log in with your Apple ID, choose Add Products, and follow the steps. You will have to insert your MacBook Pro's serial number, that you can find in the box or in System Information.
If you set up your Apple ID during the first startup of your MacBook Pro, the MacBook is already registered to your Apple ID with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand

  • Where is the 17" new macbook Pro

Where is the 17" new macbook Pro??

    @kc1974,
Yes, I understood that.  That is why I brought up the consideration of limited manufacturing capacity even before I questioned whether the sheer size of a 17" laptop like the new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display wouldn't pose challenges of its own.
To reiterate:  Suppose you were manufacturing three models of a laptop and you wanted to upgrade the line, not with incremental modifications (like the ones that characterize the "new" 13" and 15" MacBook Pro's), but with something that would leave the competition eating your dust.  Suppose further that this "something" would make the laptops fairly expensive, something your fans won't expect.  They have been used to upgraded model s costing no more than the models that they replace, i.e., more performance for the same price.  So you test the market by giving it a choice between a normally upgraded version of one model, or a version of the same model with the technology that will enable you to leave the competition behind.  How do you propose to manufacture the "ground-breaking" version without having to increase your manufacturing capacity?  After all, you don't want the test to be more expensive than necessary!  You decide to devote the line that presently manufactures the least popular model to manufacturing the "ground-breaking" version of the one model.
I think that make some sense, don't you?  Now suppose that the MBP 15" with Retina Display turns out to be a runaway success.  I doubt that Apple would continue to offer just the three MBP's that it is offering today.  It would make a lot of sense to consolidate around models with Retina displays, i.e., to replace the unibody MBP's by models with Retina displays (and without all the things that some of us which hadn't been sacrificed in the name of thinness).  That would be the time to introduce a 17" MBP with Retina Display.  Here's another "suppose".  Suppose Apple had introduced an upgrade to the 17" MBP along with the upgrades to the other two models.  Which segment of the customer base do you think would howl the loudest, becasue no sooner had they bought the upgrade, than the version with the Retina display was introduced?  Correct!  That segment that had always purchased the technologically most advanced model.
I think I'm going to hang on to my MBP 17" until the verdict is in on the new Retina MBP.  Maybe by that time Apple will see fit to let us in on its plans for us.
    Regards,
    Richard

why can't i airdrop from my macbook pro (OSX 10.9.5) to my ipad air (IOS 8.0.2)
    OR
    How do I............

    Wow, that's very disappointing.
I see that you can transfer between two Macs but not, as you say, between older Macs and iOS.
For others, the following is from Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model. To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need one of the Mac models listed below and OS X Lion or later.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.
