Where is 'character' panel in PE 9

I had a problem with my fonts be locked in all caps.
Clicking the reset buttons did not clear it.
On the internet it said to open the 'character' panel and change it there but I couldn't find the character panel.
It is not on the menu bar at the top of the screen nor is it available under the Window drop down.
I finally found a work around on the internet but would like to have access to the character panel.

This panel is not available in PSE and it`s there in pro version Photoshop CS6.

  • Text tracking settings in the character panel of Photoshop CC

Has anyone else experienced issues with the tracking settings in the character panel on PC?  When I type in a value and click the enter key, it seems to round down or round up to a close, but random number.

yep, tracking in character panel, I go to change it and it leaps to 6 figure numbers, for example, might be 250, go to change it and leaps to 234986, then a warning window appears.......and I have to force quit and restart from where I left off. Its an "all on the time issue"...

  • Character panel not displaying all options

    Hi!
I need some help, when I open the character panel it only displays about half of the type changing options, such as kerning, leading, tracking & font size.
it does not display the stretching or the other four options to manipulate text. can anyone help me??
When I used to have CS3 it did, and now with CS5 I'm not sure why it's not automatically displaying everything in the character panel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • InDesign Crashes when Accessing Character Panel

I just updated my Mac OS 10.6.7 with CS5 after uninstalling CS3, which functioned without any problems.  Now, after both creating new documents and opening previously created documents, InDesign is having all kinds of problems when I attempt to access the font list in the character panel.
InDesign will crash everytime while I am scrolling through the font list.  I have tried using the Characer Panel window, as well as the font option at the top when using the text tool.  InDesign crashes either way.
I have validated all of my fonts, removing those who were tagged as corrupt, uninstalled & reinstalled inDesign, and also removed my perferences folders to restore to default workspaces.  After all of that, InDesign continues to crash.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next?  I thought at first it was a corrupt font file, but now I'm not sure what it could be.

There are some probems that do affect InDesign though.
The one I've seen is fleeting.
Open a document and set a substantial quantity of text (say, a full page) in Utopia Std 12pt. (We're using Version 2.050; PS 2.000; hotconv 1.0.51;makeotf.lib2.0.18671). Open LibreOffice 3.3.1. Quit Libreoffice.
InDesign activates (it was the last app open) and pops up the Missing Fonts dialog, saying that Utopia Std is no longer on the system, and every character changes to a missing-font rectangle.
A few seconds later all the rectangles go away. But this is not proper behavior...

  • Why is the shortcut for highlighting the font selection field in the Character panel not working?

I'm trying to use Illustrator CC (instead of CS6)...
In AI CS6, pressing Command+Shift+Option+F on the keyboard, while text is active, hilights the Font Field in the Character Panel... not so in AI CC.
I can open CS6 on the same file and it works... Open AI CC and no result.

    Don't have CC
    Check here, what is configured.

  • Character Panel lacks in Illustrator CC

The "Highlight the font name field in the character panel" shortcut
doesn't work in illustrator CC any longer.
The "Shift+Enter"shortcut to submit changes while the field remains selected
doesn't work in illustrator CC any longer.
    Instead
Unfunctional functionalities have been added (and sold as improvements):
The search mode in the font family field
(Anyway is it really useful for someone?)
The scrolling mode added to the fields, for example, to change the font size value
(And do all of us have a good Mac Magic Mouse to perform this task?)
Luckily I do and it's nice to use it when you draw but it's annoying when you perform tweaking tasks...)
    So
When are we going to see real improvements, like having a bigger capacity with Illustrator to create more shortcuts as we do
    with InDesign?
              For example:
The capacity to create shortcuts using
                        arrow keys
                        Control key
Home, end, page up, page down keys
                        f13, f14, f15, f16, f17, f18, f19 keys
    More
Other functionalities that became unuseful are:
Ctrl+F2 for focus on the menu bar (this is a great and useful (Mac) system shortcut, but Adobe prefers to use it to change the color of the App Interface)
And I can't find the way to disable it!
         In InDesign:
Cmd+Shift+L (in text mode) to change the text alignment to the left
doesn't work in InDesign CC any longer even it appears listed in the shortcuts panel.
                        This is a serious issue.
When the Application Bar is active the "Access Zoom percentage box" shortcut becomes unactive.
Remember: Using great mouses and wacoms can be cool if creating, tracing and sketching, but if you have to use it to navigate up to a panel field it becomes an annoying nightmare (more when you are a designer performing this task every minute of everyday of everyweek of every year...
Sorry for my English, I still can't find a shortcut to learn it well, but I keep trying.

Thanks for the prompt response Gary! Yes! I have logged out - logged in again and have done that repeatedly. I have however just a few moments ago uninstalled another version that was on the machine (cs6 beside the CC 2014 v18.0) and after logging out of CC (Via the Illustrator in-App Menu | Help | Sign out... ) I then restarted my machine and now the CC app icon in the menu bar is greyed out even though it propted me to log into CC which I did.? Thanks again.

  • Font Title Not Displaying in Character Panel Font Menu

Just updated to OS X Yosemite and noticed that the font titles don't display in the Character Panel > Font Menu.  However, they do display when rolled over with the cursor.  This is only happening in Illustrator.  All other Adobe apps are correctly displaying font titles.  Anyone else having this problem?
Using Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 / Mac OS X Yosemite

    fonts, björn, scott,
Unless three step reinstallation helps, you may wish to roll back from Yosemite and wait to see whether the issues will be solved and reported as such.
Weeding out in older plugins seems to have helped some in some cases. It also seems that JAVA Runtime may be involved, for some it seems to help to roll back to an ealier version, for others to update to the newest.
All the above is more or less hearsay so far, with no definite final confirmation.
In any case, there is something to be sorted out by someone.

  • Character Panel isn't updated when selecting different type objects - Illustrator CC 2014.1.0 (october release)

If I have a Type Object selected that is, for example,
set to Helvetica, Bold 32pt size and 40pt leading,
when I select a different Type Object with entirely
different settings, the Character Panel does not refresh
to reflect the currently selected object.
This seems to happen more often than not - maybe 80% of the time.
My current work around is to change a value in the panel, then quickly change it back.
Current setup is a mac pro
    OS X 10.9.5
    Illustrator CC 2014.1.0 (october release)

    Hi Marshal,
Try to reset the preferences to default:
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Illustrator. Your current settings are deleted.
Remove or rename the AIPrefs file (Windows) or Adobe Illustrator Prefs file (Mac OS). New preferences files are created the next time you start Illustrator.note: It is safe to remove the entire Adobe Illustrator Settings folder. This folder contains various preferences that can be regenerated.
    Hope this helps.

  • Shortcuts of the 'Character Panel' don't work correctly!!

    Hi !
I found that those shortcuts of the 'Character Panel' don't work correctly in Photoshop CC.
    For example :
    Press [cmd(ctrl)+ shift + >]
→Increse or decrease the font-size with a step of 33.74px every time I press the shortcut.
Previous version of Photoshop just changes the font-size with a step of 2px.
The same problem occurs while using the shortcuts to control tracking or leading etc... Obviously the 'step' is not correctly. This could be a critical problem for me.
Aonther problem is if you try to set the font-size to 100,it will say this 'A value between 0.01 pixel and 1296.00 Pixels is required.'
All things goes crazy.. Anyone facing the same problem?

Between this and the "more than 6 lines of text screws up a Photoshop PDF" bug, CS6 is practiaclly usless for any project using type.

  • How do I click the '1st' button in the character panel for texts?

I'm having trouble figuring  out how to click the '1st' button in the character panel because i need to write 25th anniversary and needs the 'th' to be lowercase on the side. I'm new so please help! thanks.

I think the availability of Oridinals depends on the font.
    Quote from the Reference:
Typefaces include many characters in addition to the ones you see on your keyboard. Depending on the font, these characters can include ligatures, fractions, swashes, ornaments, ordinals, titling and stylistic alternates, superior and inferior characters, old-style figures, and lining figures. A glyph is a specific form of a character. For example, in certain fonts, the capital letter A is available in several forms, such as swash and small cap.
But one can achieve something similar by changing the font size and baseline shift for the affected characters.

Character Viewer is part of OS X, not Word.  You can activate it by checking its box in system prefs/language & text/input sources and then selecting it from the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.

  • Character panel missing languages

    Hello,
I am trying to set the language for sections of text in a document, as they are currently set to "no language"
When I select the text, open the character panel, and pull down the language list, I do not have english as an option, there are only a few including but not limited to Ukrainian, and Greek.
On another computer that I have installed the Indesign trial on, I have all languages available.
How could a person go about adding languages to the software? and is there any reason why it would have been installed without various englishes? Is it an option during installation?
    thanks

I don't know what languages ID is supposed to come with, but I know it picks them up from imported files.  I used to think that American-English ID came with Chinese and Japanese as part of the standard installation, but another member of these forums corrected me, and I realized I'd brought these attributes in from MSWord files.  So you might try creating an ID file on the machine with more languages, assign the those you need to chunks of text, open the file on the machines with few languages, and see if the new ones "stick" thereafter.
    Good luck!

  • Character Panel not functioning

I can't control kerning or line spacing with the character panel. It doesn't work. It worked yesterday and now all of a sudden it has stopped working. When I try and increase line spacing the number in character panel goes up or down but the text doesn't move. For kerning, when I select text it won't let me enter a number value, will only give me '0', optical or metrics.
I tried a restart (always worth a shot) and that didn't help. Any ideas????

The rule position is governed by the setting indicated in the dialog. 0 means it is on the baseline of the first line in the paragraph for rules above, or the last line of the paragraph for rules below. Positive numbers move up, negative move down. The keep in frame checkbox keeps rule above inside the text frame and pushes the text downward. It does nothing  for rule below.
Because this rule is bing applied as part of a style, every paragraph with that style will have a rule, whether there is text or not in the paragraph. Hitting Enter makes a new paragraph. If you wnat this only on some paragraphs you should define a different style with the rule for just those paragraphs, and remove the rule from other styles, or apply the rule as an override manually.
    >I can move the text up and down (using the aA bottom left hand function in character panel) but the line does not move with it. Maybe I am selecting it incorrectly? Again, it seems like I could move all of it previously, by selecting the hairline, but now that doesn't seem to be working.
For goodness sake, DON"T DO THAT. That's baseline shift and should only be used to adjust the position of isolated characters. It took me a week to figure out why I couldn't edit ads at one of my previous jobs because my predecessor had used baseline shift on entire paragraphs. In extreme cases it's possible to shift things so much that you see a selection highlight on a different line of text when you select. If you need to move the position of the top line of text in a frame, use the text frame options and either change the top offset or pick a new "first baseline" option. Adjust the spacing between paragraphs by using either "space before" or "space after." Space before or after will not leave blank space at the top of a frame the way an empty return will. It can be built into a style and edited in the style definition to adjust all paragraphs using the style.
    >For the tracking, I don't want to set to vertical justification necessarily, as that might be too much. How would I set the required leading (I could try a few things and see what seemed to what best). Mainly it's for when I don't quite have enough copy, and have too big a gap between end of copy and contact info, just to make it look a bit better visually.
If what you want to do is adjust the spacing in the lines to add or lose a line here or there, start by trying the judicious use of No Break to see if it makes things recompose more to your liking. By judicious I mean select a word that is currently hyphenated, or convert a space to non-breaking, not a long string. Applying No Break to too much text will force it into overset when ID can't find a place to break the line. If it isn't doing what you want, remove any No Break you've applied to avoid trouble if you edit later.
My next choice would be to select an entire paragraph, or group of paragraphs, and adjust the word spacing (Tracking adjusts the letter spacing inside the words, too, which can look bad). Ctrl + Alt + Backspace will tighten, Ctrl + Alt + \ (backslash) will loosen. The amount is governed by the settings for tracking and kerning in the preferences. If you find you are doing this a lot, and always in the same direction, edit the justification settings to increase or decrease the word spacing amounts.
