Where is Clipboard in Solaris 10

Hi Friends,
I am new to solaris (was previously worked in Windows XP). I want to see the clipboard.
This I need, because I had a problem while I do text copying.
Scenario:
I copied a url link from gedit and closed gedit BEFORE PASTING IN THE mozilla browser.
When i pasted, it is blank (as the clipboard become empty, since i closed gedit editor).
I wish to have a solution.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Parasou.

Yep, that's what happens. Don't close the source application until after you've completed the paste operation!

  • Where Do I Download Solaris for Intel?

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me where do I download Solaris 8 for Intel?
When I can use Solaris for SPARC will I have any problems
using the Intel one? Are they any differences in commands
    or so?
    Thanks
    Tom

You can no longer download Solaris for Intel. You can order it @
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html
When you get it sucessfully installed you should not see any difference in command set from The SPARC version.

  • Where to buy a Solaris Server?

I thought of developing applications that can be deployed in solaris server for my clients.
Where can i get solaris server for commercial purposes.
Whether this free download can be used for commercial purpose?

What kind of application are you developing? What server are you interested in buying?
More details about the servers can be found on
Sun's web page www.sun.com and look under products
or double click the URL below
    http://www.sun.com/servers/index.jsp
If you interested in web performance and have a multi-threaded application you can try a Sun system free
for 60 days and then buy it.

Where I can download Solaris 2.6 x86 32bit at this site?

    Hi Gurus,
If i am not wrong try this website.
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/drivers/dca_diskettes/index.jsp
    Yes, you are wrong.
That link is only for the bootable floppy that was required to begin the installation process of Solaris 2.6 x86 from its CD media because in the 1980's and the early 1990's (the era of the particular Solaris being discussed in this forum thread) virtually no x86 systems could boot from CD. They could only boot from their floppy drive or their hard drive.
The DCA disk was not the OS. That floppy was included in the media kit that was purchased from Sun. Even if you create such a floppy from that link, you still need the OS media if you hope to proceed with the installation.
Go back and read reply #1 in this thread.

  • Where to begin with Solaris?

I'm interested in exploring Solaris and not quite sure where to begin.  Currently running Ubuntu 12.04 on a dual-quad core Intel Xeon, which version of Solaris will work best?

    Hi there,
you might want to grab a copy of the Open Solaris Bible (OpenSolaris Bible: Nicholas A. Solter, Jerry Jelinek, David Miner: 9780470385487: Amazon.com: Books) which, while being a little outdated, gives a quite decent jump start into the matter. Then install Solaris - should be piece of cake if you know Linux - and simply start comparing to what you know from Linux. Alternatively, if you don't have access to Solaris, go for OpenIndiana (http://openindiana.org), which is a true descendant of Sun's former open source variant, OpenSolaris. The operating system is free, the community is friendly, and you learn quite a lot you can take with you when you start using 'real' Solaris.
    Cheers

  • Where can i find solaris 11 SUNWscpux package. needed for netbackup

i am installing netbackup master/media server on solaris 11 11/11 sparc. i need to backup an exchange 2010 server using GRT recovery. this depends on a netbackup process on the solaris side called, nbfsd. this process will not start because it is looking for
librpcsos.so.1. as you can see below when i try to run it by hand:
    nbfsd -d -v 5 -j 123 -B rgex03_123456789
ld.so.1: nbfsd: fatal: librpcsoc.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
from what i can tell this library is included in the SUNWscpux package which is the old /usr/ucblib and /usr/ucb/bin stuff.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/816-5173/librpcsoc-3libucb.html
i cannot seem to find this package on the solaris 11 installation iso i downloaded.
does anyone know where i can find this package? i know netbackup shouldn't be linking against this obsolete package that is probably going away soon but i need to get this up and running.
thanks in advance for any help.

i figured out how to get the ucb compatibility package installed on solaris 11 and now netbackup is happy.
i searched the solaris 11 package site at:
    http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/en/index.shtml
for the library that was misssing and saw the package name is:
    compatibility/ucb
    the command:
    pkg install compatibility/ucb
    installed the package for me.

  • Where is Clipboard

I have downloaded EtreCheck and have run it. Now it says to Save to Clipboard. When I go to Finder - Edit - show Clipboard only a line of text comes up.
When I take a screen shot they go into my Dropbox (not sure how that happened but ok with it). Any ideas what else I can do to try and find where the results of EtreCheck have gone? They are not on my desktop. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. Will try all of the above. Have had Macs for 3 years now and still find that some things are weird. As much as I don't like Windows now at least they had a visable clipboard.
And Barney, after I used  'Copy to Clipboard' I couldn't do anything - print, save, copy, paste etc. Everything just gave me a ting sound.
Then it did not copy correctly, which is probably why it didn't show in the clipboard.
I think I've looked at the clipboard contents about twice now on the Mac. Never on Windows. I can see looking at it if what you tried to paste didn't paste anything at all, but otherwise, why do you look at it?

  • Where is Wget on Solaris 10

I know this sounds like a stupid question....but I can't find wget. I installed Solaris 10 in a Sun Blade 2500 with a Tritec DG-2 graphics card. Needles to say, I can't get the driver to work. I've downloaded it and burned it to CD about 10 times and can't install it using Tritec's directions. As a last resort, before I throw this thing in dumpster, I'd like to try wget to download it the driver directly. I don't know where wget is on my Solaris system...I try ff wget but it won't find the bloody thing because it's not a file.................Please help me.

    /usr/sfw/bin/wget http://www.google.com This works..thanks.
    Being a beginner sucks.
I thought if I was in the /usr/sfw/bin directory I wouldn't have to put that in.

  • How / from where to start on Solaris Driver developement?

    Hi,
'm a User domain developer, want to also learn about driver developement.
Please give me pointers so that I can start with
    Thanks,
    -Vikrant

First of all you should download the following two documents:
    - Writing Device Drivers
    - STREAMS Programming Guide
If you want to develop USB drivers you must have USBA 1.0 installed (Solaris 8/9 has 0.8 as default) and additionally download the "USB DDK" from Sun.
A device driver is an object file (created by "ld -r ..."). You cannot decide if you use 32 or 64 bit. On a 64 bit OS you MUST use 64 bit code.
If you use GCC: On Sparc machines 64 bit code is generated using "-m64", not using "-xarch=v9".
The driver must provide three functions: "_init", "_info" and "_fini" (see first document).
There are two types of drivers:
    1) Streams drivers (described in the second document) are drivers for stream devices. These are all devices that implement a character stream and can be used with "streamio" ioctls. Examples are: All terminals and serial ports, printer ports, mice, keyboards, ...
These devices communicate with the system calls (e.g. read, write, ioctl) using special data packets. Therefore programming Streams drivers is very different from writing other drivers.
All streams devices are character devices.
You can also write streams modules (see man streamio, I_PUSH). Such modules are "filters" that can modify the data between the device driver and the application.
    2) Other drivers. They may be character or block devices. These drivers have different functions for different function calls. Example: The "ioctl" function call will call the function "MyDriver_Ioctl" of your driver.
I think writing a non-streams driver is way more simple than writing a streams driver. I had some system crashes when running instable self-written streams drivers. However some drivers must be streams drivers e.g. if you want to use the device as a terminal device or if you want to push modules using I_PUSH.
Unlike Linux the OS detects the presence of hardware and decides when to load a driver. You create the file /kernel/drv/NameOfYourDriver.conf with driver settings. This file also contains the information that your driver does not require hardware (e.g. ram disks). You must add your driver to the system by typing "add_drv NameOfYourDriver". Use the "-i" option to tell the system which hardware is handled by your driver.

  • Where is iSCSI ? Solaris 10 HW1

I've searched and seen hints, tips and the existence in Solaris Express but I was wondering if iSCSI initiator support is in the HW1 release and I'm missing it somewhere.
As a sidebar, is there a collection of "What's Been Added, Changed or Fixed" for each Solaris release? I'm willing to read!
    Thanks,
    Doug

The initiator as you already noted is in Solaris Express. We were unable to make the HW1 release. It will also be in HW2. While applying the Solaris Express packages to Solaris 10 may work be aware Solaris Express is different S10. We are already working on adding new S10U2 features into Solaris Express. Solaris Express can be considered the latest and greatest. While S10 HW and Update releases are stable check point/milestones.
