Where is desaturate in Aperture 3?

Just started with Ap3 and to my surprise I can't find desaturate anymore ?????? It was one of the very usefull bricks to desaturate small parts in the Dodge and Burn plugin of Ap2. Anybody?

I return to this thread. Jade I also see now how much more there is hidden under the little coq wheel. Thanks for that. I've looked through all the possible options and yes they are impressive. But still I think we now miss a perfect and very intuitive way of dodging and burning as it was organised in AP2. There you could dodge and burn ( or saturate and desaturate) selectively and very quickly by just clicking repeatedly on a certain spot. The "build-up" of this was seen live by every click after each other. Wys(aw)wwyg(ot) there! Now in Ap3 one has to click once on a certain area, continue to another and so on before finally returning to the slider to move up or down to change the strenght and see the result. If you work with dodging and burning alot this is taking much more time and is a real step back since it's not live what your doing.
My question is still here: Have I still not found something hidden here? And also would it somehow be possible to reinstall AP2's dodge and burn plugin in Ap3? And if not are there any known plugins that can do this? Thanks again for any help!

Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits? Using iMac, OS X, most recent Aperture and Lightroom 5.7 with plugin for Aperture.

    Define "the Aperture files".
    Read this concise guide.
The files you imported into an Aperture Library can be exported (at any time, and repeatedly) using the command "File ▹ Export ▹ Originals".  Your Originals are never altered.  What went in is what comes out.
Adjustments and changes to the metadata that you made since creating an Image in Aperture by importing a file are saved to a text file.  This file is combined, on-the-fly, with the Original to create the Image that you see in Aperture.  There is no file saved to disk that is the full-size Image.  Thumbnails are saved, and Previews are saved.  These are JPG files, almost always smaller than the Original.  They are not substitutes for the Image for the use you have.
When you need a file of an Image to use in another program, you export the Image from Aperture.  "Export" means "Make me a file of this Image according to these file specs I'm providing".  The way to get files of your adjusted Images is simple:  create them by exporting.  Specify "Original size", and use a loss-less image-file format (e.g. TIFF 16-bit) if you want to retain as much visual information as possible.
Search the Web for information about transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom.  Note that I say "transitioning".  You cannot move a database from one format to another without significant changes, and likely some loss of information.  Adobe provides a tool and some instructions.  I strongly recommend working out the process step-by-step, and then proceeding with first a few Images, then a bushel-ful, and stopping to use the first few, the the bushel-ful, before committing your entire collection to the process.
As always, never use any computer file without having a back-up.
We have seen mixed reports here of the success of the LR tool that creates a LR database from your Aperture database.
If you want to carefully define the process, and test and refine it, use the excellent process-development, analysis, and execution program inShort.
Sadly, there is not and can never be a good, thorough re-positioning of the digital assets in your Aperture Library to become digital assets in a LR database.  Just as a metaphor for any user contemplating transitioning to another digital asset manager:  that would be like digging up a house in one country, planting it in a hole in another country, and expecting to be able to use the toilet and the sinks, turn on the lights, cook dinner, and sleep soundly.

    where can I get aperture-app lizenznumber ?

    Reinstall Aperture.
    Aperture from the Mac AppStore
The AppStore version should not be asking for a licence number. Probably the update did not download and install correctly.
Move Aperture from the Applications folder to the Trash (but don't empty the Trash) , then open the AppStore, sign into your account with the AppleID you used to buy Aperture,  and download Aperture again from the "Purchased" tab.

  • RGB values (eyedropper) where ot find in Aperture?

Where can I find the eyedropper tool in Aperture? I want to check if in fact my greys are neutral... Can't seem to find it!

Although Aperture does not have this built in (an
oversight to be sure) there actually is a pretty good
    alternative shipped with every Mac.
Actually, it’s useless for the task. It’s NOT providing RGB values of the image data but the color sent to the display. We need RGB values of either the internal HDR color space (that is being represented by the Histogram) and/or (better) whatever output color space you need to export the files. Aperture provides neither which in my mind is very confusing.
While many have said Aperture is lacking due to lack of curves, the lack of an info palette is a far bigger issue.
It would also be lovely if the Histogram would represent the rendered data based on my selection for a color space I’ll encode the data. Adobe Camera RAW provides this (toggle the output color spaces and watch the Histogram update). Not the case in Aperture. So I have no idea, based on the gamut of the scene if I want to encode in ProPhoto RGB or Adobe RGB (1998). If scene gamut fits within Adobe RGB (1998), I'd rather not use ProPhoto RGB. In Aperture, I’m flying blind.

  • Anybody know where I can find Aperture RAW update 4.02?

Doesn't seem to be showing up in the list of most recent RAW updates, looking for support for NEX-6.  Thanks!

What is your Aperture version, Jack?
The Raw support for the NEX 6 is only available with Aperture 3.4, see footnote *** in http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html.

Hello! How do I retrieve my aperture serial number if I don't have the booklet anymore?

    Denise,
the support article you came from -Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers - is your only hope.
You need to contact Apple with a proof of purchase. Do you still have the installer disk to prove that you bought the application?
Do you have a second mac with Aperture running? Then you can see the serial number in the "About" panel: From Aperture's main menu bar > Aperture > About Aperture

  • Aperture Won't Launch With 2 Video Cards

I use 3 monitors with my G5 Dual 2.5GHz for running a number of programs simultaneously and also for Final Cut Pro editing. In the center is an Apple 23" HD Cinema Display. On the left is an Apple 15" DVI flat screen and on the right is an Apple 15" VGA flat screen.
Aperture will not launch at all. It gives me an error stating that the video card is not supported. The main card is a GeForce 6800 GT DDR that has the 23" and the 15" DVI connected. The problem is the Radeon 7000 that has the 15" VGA hooked up. I took the Radeon out and Aperture ran fine so I know where the problem lies.
Obviously I cannot keep taking the Radeon in an out of the G5 whenever I want to use different programs. Does anyone have any suggestions? I hope Apple will have an update where you can tell Aperture what monitors to use or video card to ignore. That should alleviate the problem. Is there a way of using Terminal to turn off the Radeon which would allow Aperture to run? I just bought this program and was all excited to start using it. Now I'm bummed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Maybe there is a way to turn the Radeon 7000 on and off through Terminal? Some process I can quit to run Aperture on the 2 monitors connected to the nVidia GeForce 6800GT and then restart that process when I'm done so I can go back to using 3 monitors?
    Thanks.

  • New to Aperture - Library vs Reference files

I'm coming to Aperture from Picasa, which replicated and managed my folder structure as it appeared on my hard-disc, which was nice.
Am I better off importing images into my Aperture Library, or managing the folder structure how I want and just having Aperture work with the reference files?
I'm not a pro-photographer, just a pretty basic user, so will not have loads of large raw image files. What's the benefit of using the Library over using Reference files? I've tried Google-ing but everything I've found just addresses folder/project management within Aperture.
If I use the reference option, can Aperture manage my photos on my hard-drive in the same way Picasa could (ie if I moved a photo from one folder to another in Picasa, it also moved on my drive)
    Thanks

    Hi TxH,
Welcome to the user-supported Aperture discussion group.
I'm coming to Aperture from Picasa, which replicated and managed my folder structure as it appeared on my hard-disc, which was nice.
If you use Aperture for even a little while, you'll realize that the structure of your photos in your hard drive is not as important as how you organize them in Aperture, especially when you start making albums, which merely contain a pointer to the image in your library. You can have a picture in many albums, but your library (and therefore hard drive) only contains it once.
Am I better off importing images into my Aperture Library, or managing the folder structure how I want and just having Aperture work with the reference files?
That's a matter of opinion. Some people are very opinionated that using referenced files is the only way to go, some are opinionated the other way. Sometimes there really is a better solution for you depending on what you are doing.
What's the benefit of using the Library over using Reference files? I
You will find loads of conversation if you search this discussion group for "managed" and "referenced".
You will always have a library. Your managed pictures will live in the library and you won't have direct access to them through Finder (and you should not want direct access to them for the most part). Your referenced pictures live wherever you tell Aperture to take them from, but the bookkeeping parts of the Aperture library/database are still stored in the Aperture library package.
Benefits of managed include: you don't worry about where the files are; Aperture backs them up if you use its vaults; they are always with you.
Benefits of referenced include: you know exactly where the files are; your Aperture library is significantly smaller than if all your photos were in the library; you can find them with Finder if that's important to you (and a lot of people think it's important to them but then realize they only think that because they're really not using Aperture to its full potential).
If I use the reference option, can Aperture manage my photos on my hard-drive in the same way Picasa could (ie if I moved a photo from one folder to another in Picasa, it also moved on my drive)
Yes. I've never used Picasa, but Aperture allows you to "relocate" your photos in order to manage their external directory structure. You can also choose to "relocate" a managed master to make it referenced.

  • Unable to install aperture 3.1 dvd on snow leopard or lion

I have an aperture 3.1 install DVD.  I tried to install it on my macbook running lion 10.7.3 and it says:
I then tried to install it on my mac mini running snow leopard 10.6.8... same result.
Then I tried to install on my macbook (dual booted with the lion) running 10.5.8, clean install it worked just fine.  Installed and asked me to get the updates.
My question is: how do i get this isntalled on my macbook running lion 10.7.3?
I have tried to repair permissions, I tried making sure I had all the latest updates through software updater. I have tried restarting.
The only thing I haven't tried is format and reinstall fresh, but that is my last resort.

Is there any diagnostic message (error log) in the Console window, when you run the Aperture 3.1 installer on your Lion system? If you see any crash report, post the first 50 lines of the crash report.
Your boxed version is licenced to run on a macbook and a desktop computer. Since the Trial Version is no longer available for download try to download the full version from the App Store:
on the system where you have an Aperture Installation register your Aperture version with Apple, if you not already have done so,
Sign into the App Store with your apple ID you use for purchases; the App Store now should register your installed applications
And if you now log into the App Store with your same ID you should be able to see a download link to download Aperture without having to buy it.
see this thread: Here this approach seems to have worked
This solved my question Re: Ap 3 on two computers?
What I am not sure about, is if you will be able to log into the App Store from a Leopard System.
If you cannot do that, then try to get the latest Aperture update using your Leopard System:
Then I tried to install on my macbook (dual booted with the lion) running 10.5.8, clean install it worked just fine.  Installed and asked me to get the updates.
Try to download the updates and make a copy of the installers, before they are deleted again. Then try to run these installer on your other system.

  • How to reconnect master files in recovered folder to Aperture

Aperture 3 crashed and somehow it spit out all its master files and dumped them in a directory called 'Pictures Recovered Photos'. All files in Aperture show the 'Master Not Found' badge (arrow with yellow exclamation point triangle). How do I tell Aperture that the master file it's looking for sits in the 'Pictures Recovered Photos' folder?
I tried the 'Locate Referenced Files' command but that obviously doesn't work because the pictures are not referenced. The master files were imported before something went wrong.
To make matters worse, the 'Pictures Recovered Photos' folder contains about 56k files, while I only have about 13k masters. Upon further inspection, I noticed that most masters had several copies of themselves:
e.g. here are all the files matching picture DSC00131 in the 'Pictures Recovered Photos' folder:
    DSC00131.JPG
    DSC00131.JPG.jpg
    DSC00131.JPG_2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face0.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face0_2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face1.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face1_2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face2_2.jpg
Any suggestions on how to get out of this mess?

First wanted to see if someone had seen this situation before
The subject of Aperture completely aside, it is not uncommon for files to sprout in unexpected places when there are disk problems. If you have not already done so you should use Disk Utility to Verify the disk(s) where your masters and Aperture app and library reside before you attempt to do anything else. While you are in Disk Utility check the S.M.A.R.T status as well. If you try to fix things within Aperture you could make things worse if your disks aren't in tip-top shape.
I'm new to Aperture so I will leave advice on how to relocate your masters to experienced users.

  • Moving from iPhoto to Aperture with 15,000+ photos

    Hi all.
I have iPhoto11 set up as manage mode for 15,000+ photos (around 350 "events"). I was having issues with iPhoto hanging up and being reallly slow when scrolling up and down through the Event layout even with the "thumbnails" or event previews minimized as much as possible. At first I though I might need more ram, so I went from 2 gigs to 8gigs, but not much of a change. Another discussion board advised I switch to Aperture3 due to its ability to manage larger libraries such as mine.
So I've installed A3, and proceded to "import" my iPhoto library. My questions are..
    1) I "TimeMachine" my iPhoto lib., therefore I have a ~24gig iphoto "file" on the laptop and backed up to external drive. When I "imported" to A3, A3 created a ~24gig "file" as well. However, when I opened a photo in A3 and do a "locate photos on..or locate file, etc ...it points to the iPhoto lib. What the? Why not point within the A3 "managed file"??
    2) In iphoto if I remove red-eye or crop a photo, there is the master untouched photo and the edited version. What gets imported over to A3?
    3) Should I have exported iPhoto to reference then imported those reference photos as managed in A3?
    Thanks

iPhoto is good for 250,000 images. Usual causes for slowness in iPhoto include damaged cache files, HD issues, and even corrupted pref files.

    Both

No, you need to make that choice in the import dialogue

  • Aperture loose link with Referenced Masters

I just upgraded to Aperture 2 and spent days organizing and creating an elaborate library of referenced files. The masters were placed on an external HD via FW 800. Things were working perfectly until I launched Aperture and there was no sign of my library. Aperture looked brand new with an empty library other than the sample images from the Installation Disc.
If I go to Aperture Preferences it is correct is pointing to the attached external disc where I have my masters stored. Fortunately, when I look on my external HD the images are still there. The Aperture application just won't recognize the files on the external HD.
This is very frustrating as I spent days creating this elaborate organization.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Really dumb question. Where is the actual Aperture Library located? Do you have more than one Aperture Libraries? In other words, Aperture Library on your internal and external drives.
If so, just start Aperture by double clicking the external drive Aperture Library where you store the referenced master files. Or do what I do, is to have the Aperture Library on my internal drive and all of my image master files on an external drive.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can I make an ebook on aperture?

Is it possible to make an ebook or convert an existing photo book in Aperture to an ebook?

I have not yet found a way to directly enter Aperture for files.
What exactly do yo mean by directly, Sandy? I simply click the MediaBrowser icon in iBooks and it reveals a panel, where I can select Aperture and browse all projects and albums to drag the images directly onto the iBook pages, like this: The Media Browser is in the upper right corner:
