Should be like version 11.  It is on the left in Expert.  Look in the Enhance block.  It can show up as Dodge,
    Burn or Sponge.

  • Where is the polygonal capture tool on PSE 11?

Where is the polygonal capture tool on PSE 11? It was on PSE 9. If it does no longer exist on PSE 11, how can I get a similar capture as with the polygonal one.

Do you mean the polygonal lasso tool? If so, click on whatever lasso tool is visible and you'll see it at the bottom of the screen on the left end of the Tool Options. Just click it there to activate it.
If you mean the Polygonal Shape tool, click whatever shape tool is visible (usually the icon is a blue blob like an amoeba if you haven't used the shape tools yet) and choose it in the tool options.

    Yeah right ,
gradients tools are present in all these version
and curves are not present in any of these officially .
Curves are present with their own interface.
One big problem is that you'll never find them logically where they are : under the menu 'Enhance/color correstion', it's the 'adjust color curves' option.
Add to that problem the fact that this kind of adjustment is not about colours (no R,G,B channels) and you'll see why it is missed by everybody.
The interface is meant to help beginners understand how curves work : you choose the effect you want and you see the curve being drawn. Excellent for pedagogy but users of the traditionnal curves manipulations don't understand the new way.
If you want the old curves interface, you can add many free or affordable add-ons like Elements+. The most powerful and free one is the smartcurve plugin for Windows 32 bits.
    Other ideas:
    - if you don't use curves for colour correction, you can use the gradient tool adjustment layer (black to white) in luminosity mode. That's how you deal with curves in adjustment layers. Note that using gradient maps instead of curves is only a graphical way to determine the inflexion points. Same parameters, different inferface.
    - Using curves intensively was the way to edit ten years ago. Now, you can use the ACR basic tag to achieve quickly much better tone and colour correction, that way you won't need curves most of the time.

  • CS4 Burn/Dodge tools losing parts of the circle?

    Hi guys,
I'm sure this is here somewhere, but I cannot find it. (I managed to find discussions in other forums via google, but thought I'd try here since those don't resolve my issue)
    Problem:
Burn / Dodge tools losing 3/4 of the circle, leaving only the top-left portion
The tools still work, but it makes it difficult to know where I'm burning or dodging because I cannot see all of the circle of the tool. I've noticed this only happens once I fill a layer or add any sort of texture. I can open a new file and the tool is there in full (tested from 10px up to 100px) but as soon as I do anything, poof.
I'm using Win XP Home SP3, NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GT with the latest drivers (updated this morning). Every solution I've found thus far has been "update your drivers," but that isn't working in my case. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

There is that... I have Version 11.0 installed. I am currently a college student, and have access to my college's Photoshop Learning/Tutoring Center (online discussions). Posted the same issue to a professor and they said to reset my preference settings back to default (hold ctrl+alt+shift while starting up PS) and so far it's worked. I'm going to get the update for v. 11.0.1 regardless. Thanks!

I am using PSE 3 and used their help file to locate how to use the burn and dodge tools but they are not on my toolbar. Any idea how I get to them?

I got an error on a site that says I need to clear my cache but I have NO tools button - nothing that shows my history or helps me get to my cookies to delete them. ALL the articles you have start with the tools button. Where is my tools button on my Firefox and how do I get it on my toolbar permanently?????
I've been at this for 1/2 an hour and am quite frustrated. Please help me!! Thanks!! : )

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

  • When I zoom in + out with dodge tool the cursor changes

So I just installed CS5 on a newly formatted PC.
I didn't used to have this problem before before I completely formatted on HDD do to a virus + reinstalled Windows7, although now its getting on my nerves.
Basically when I zoom in the dodge tool circle will change into a half circle and if I zoom in even more it will change into what seems to be two circles intertwined and if I zoom out around 35% it changes into 4 full circles???
Even when I switch from my photoshop in the taskbar to firefox (without zooming back in) the cursor then changes into 4 normal mouse pointers???? For some reason it will quickly switch back if I press a button on my keyboard. But thats about it, maybe this might be a problem with my video driver maybe?
Im using Inegrated Gfx: Intel GMA X4500

Just updated driver... seems fine for now.

  • Q: I don't understand how to use the teeth whitening tool in PSE 9.

I've been going through the tutorials and following along pretty good but i got to the Perfect Portrait guided edit and didnt' get how to use the Teeth Whitening tool...it seems to select the teeth but then I'm lost....what am I supposed to do at that point after the marching ants are marching around the teeth?

I’m not sure what’s going on, but obviously something is not happening.
You could also try the dodge tool (keep pressing the letter O on your keyboard) until you see the blue dodge tool. No selection necessary.
Enlarge your image to about 200% and use the square bracket keys to increase or decrease the cursor size to fit the area to be whitened. Set exposure in the options bar to about 50%. Gently brush over the teeth area until you get them as you like.

  • Dodge tool brush area

    CS3, Windows XP, 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600, System Model: E-4500S, System Type: X86-based PC x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2799 Mhz
Regardless of the brush diameter or hardness when using the dodge tool to lighten an area of a photograph, it only lightens a very small area in the center of the brush and then only after repeated clicks. The burn tool seems to operate as normal (the whole area of the brush regardless of diameter). Thanks,

    > Are you using "Full Size" or "Normal" cursors?
You're missing his point. He's not complaining about the cursor not showing the full brush size; he's complaining about the dodge tool only having a dodge effect at a central hot spot, regardless of the size or hardness of the brush.
    > Have you got a Wacom tablet?
He's not claiming that his mouse isn't working with brush tools such as Dodge, so the "pen near the tablet" isn't the problem; it's unique to the dodge tool. There does seem to be something "dodgy" about the dodge tool. I haven't encountered his particular hot-spot problem, but for me the dodge tool doesn't resize with the [ and ] keys like the burn tool and all other brush tools. So there may be a coding bug unique to the dodge tool that affects different users in different ways.
