Where is idvd in imovie?

I finished my movie in imovie on my new imac 21.5, and it says it cannot locate idvd.
Is it not part of the program?

What version of iDVD is included in that package? I know that iDVD 7 (I think - it's been quite a while) added more themes.
Now, when I first got my cameras, I did some 60 sec. movies to test different settings and have found - for me - that this workflow produces the best quality results:
I don't use iPhoto or iMovie to make a slideshow - I don't like their Ken Burns effect. I use Photo to Movie (not free, but they have a free trial). I then export that as a .mov to either incorporate that into my movie or just add to iDVD (see my settings below).
When I'm done in iMovie, I do the same thing: I export with the settings that produce the best quality for me.
I also use Final Cut Express to create layered videos for menus or intros (4 - 5 special effect videos) and LiveType to create swooshing, running, exploding or whatever live fonts for those intros. Export those at best quality settings to either use in iMovie as intros or as a menu background in iDVD.
Then I open iDVD; I use the "professional quality" setting in Project Info. I then decide on a theme, drag in the background(s) I created, add music and then add my movie(s).
When finished, I create a VIDEO_TS folder (File menu) which will include all the files necessary and which will be copied to an external for later use if necessary. I then burn a DVD either in iDVD or Toast using the Video_TS folder and delete all the massive files I managed to accumulate (my last project in 720p took up 100 GB for a one hour movie).
Here is a screenshot of the settings I use (this is from iMovie > Share > Export using Quicktime); in the resulting window, click on Options and then hit the various Settings options. I've been using 720p for two reasons: a) the files are considerably smaller and take less time to render and encode than 1080p and b) I actually could not tell the difference between those two on my TV. Here is a screenshot of the settings I use:
Of course you can use 1080p. I do not use any "automated" share options - prefer my own - some apps call it professional settings or manual - whatever: as long as you can choose the options you want for quality.

  • Where are iDVD and iMovie themes?

I've re-build my hard drive on my iMac (Intel), System 10.5.8.
I've got iPhoto, iDVD and iPhoto working from my backup disc, but I can't find the 'themes'.
They must be on the backup disc somewhere?
    Any ideas?

Where are the audio clips stored that go with some of the themes?
The .theme is also a package, you use the same CTRL-click, show package contents trick to get inside. Some of the themes have the audio as separate audio file, you can tell with the .aif extension, but some of them a muxed .mov file. You need QuickTime Pro or some other tools to get the audio out.

I just did a clean install to Leopard, and I don't see iPhoto, iDVD, and

Are they not included in Leopard?

    Hi
I believe that they are all part of iLife, do you have an iLife disk? If not, go to http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=E80 5623D&fnode=home/shop_mac/software/apple&nplm=MB015Z/A & buy it (presuming your in US).

Where is idvd in OS x Lion?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?

    UPDATE & ADDENDUM:
But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:
“when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).
I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
In response, Old Toad posted this solution:
“You can still use it one all of your Macs.  If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:
“It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.
I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected.  For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”
The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • While burning a DVD-R this comes up: "Where is iDVD?"

iMovie was bought as a standalone app, I've never owned iLife or the now discontined iDVD.
Just for fun I right-clicked a Project to Share to iDVD. iMovie prepared the Project, took an hour.
When finished, the question popped up: "Where is iDVD?" That was predictable.
I dragged the video, which is an mpg4, 580mb, from the "All Videos" folder and burned a DVD-R.
Clicked the icon, plays great in iTunes or QuickTime.
Since I put chapters inWondering if there is a chapter list

  • Where did iDVD go?

Where did iDVD go?  How do I access iDVD?  I used to just drag my mp4's straight into iDVD and create my DVD's but it is no longer available.  Help!

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • How can I burn an mpeg onto a DVD without having to use IDVD or IMovie?

So I've got a few jpg's and mpeg's that I would like to burn for PC friends, but the only way I can figure out how to get these onto a CD or DVD is by using IDVD or IMovie with my IMac. Is there a way around this? Why doesn't a blank DVD or CD icon come up on the desktop once inserted so that I can simply drag and drop my photos and short movies to it to be burned accordingly? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for responding Dave, but this option doesn't
seem to appear in the preferences of IDVD, DVD
Player, or Quicktime. It seems strange that the only
way I can burn a movie is to create a new IMovie
project and and then burn it via IDVD. This is a
huge hassle when all I want is a few short videos in
no particular order saved on a CD or DVD. My CD
player doesn't seem to be listed separately and is
tied into Itunes. Isn't ILife suppose to make
things easier? Thanks for your help.

  • Import files into iDVD from iMovie OR export files from iMovie to iDVD?

I've been told it is better to import iMovie projects into iDVD (within iDVD) rather than exporting from iMovie to iDVD within iMovie. I was told that iDVD does a better job of rendering things than iMovie. Is this true because this is not the instructions given in the iMovie tutorial.

Not sure what advice you have been given and how you have interpreted it.
You are of course referring to im6 here since you can't drag projects from im08 to iDVD.
I don't make many DVD's anymore and may well be wrong here but I'm not aware that dragging an im6 project to iDVD is any different than using share/iDVD and I'm wondering if the advice relates to exporting from im6 and then importing the exported movie into iDVD which is indeed a different workflow.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

  • I can't find iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie, or iWeb

I just bought a used iMac G4 with Mac OS X 10.3 Panther on it and it was used badly I gues because all this junk was loaded on it but I can't find a reason why iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie, etc. were not loaded on my Mac.

    Hi,
First of all, Welcome to the  Discussions Forums!
Your post sounds as if you do not have the original disks or a retail copy of Panther 10.3, correct?
The retail Panther disks do have iLife apps included. My set (retail box 10.3.2) came with iLife apps iMovie 3, iPhoto 2, iTunes 4.
When the original owner purchased the iMac G4 it would have had the apps bundled with it. If they are missing now it sounds like the owner deleted them from the disk or did not install them. Originally, I think, iDvD only came on Macs with superdrives.
If you let us know which disks you have, if any, perhaps we can let you know if you can install any of the iLife applications from them.

  • Where is idvd??? i can't  find it on the os x lion!

wher is idvd on os x lion. I cant find it... help me

The iLife version that comes with all new Macs does not include iWeb or iDVD. If you want those, you'll need to buy the iLife 11 Box Set from the Apple Online Store.  Or from an Apple Retail Store if they still have them. If you have another Mac with iWeb and iDVD, you can probably use Migration Assistant to copy them over to your new Mac.
