Which input is used by the Import Wizard to migrate Personal - and Inbox documents from 6.5 to BOXIR2?
We have noticed that for some users, not all the Personal documents are migrated from 6.5 to BOXIR2.  We have done a test on a Non-PRD environment.  In PRD we have to migrate +80.000 documents for +10.000 users.  I'm trying to find out why, to make an impact analysis.
    Does the Import Wizard use: - only the 00000xyz.wid-files? - Profile.txt? - Index.dat? - Index? - Attribut.txt? - the Repository?
Does anyone recommend to copy the filestore on the server where the Import Wizard is installed?  When I copy the filestore to a separate location, can the Impot Wizard make the link with the repository (if needed)?

    - We have had a consultant to do an assessment of our environment.  He's a former BO-employee and has the best experience I have ever seen.  So, we are not operating on our own.
    - We use BO since 1994 and BO is a standard reporting tool at our site.  We have +5000 user who use BusinessObjects Full Client, who have created 50.000 documents on the Network.  This is on average 10 docs per person.  We have +5000 users who use Webi since 2005.  They have created 40.000 docs in 3 years.  So, this makes on average 8 documents per user over a period of 3 years.  I think this is not too much...  With a lot of users, you get a lot of documents
    - If we do a cleanup (Delete) for the personal documents in Webi, the content of the 'index.dat' and the 'Attribut.txt' is not in sync with the actual files in the storage-directory.  How can we solve this?  Can a cleanup create a possible source of problems with the Import Wizard?  To avoid this,we choose to migrate all the documents.  Doing this, we ' follow' the rules of BO and can contact BOSupport in case of problems.  We have allready introduced # cases for specific problems.  The only thing we are missing is the 'general rules' the Import Wizard uses for the migration.
    - We have 624 universes.  The universes point for 75% to an ODS-layer which covers 80% of the operational systems.  A lot of 'operational reporting' is done in BO.  We use the SDK of Designer to create universes.  This enables us to create a universe of +/-500 -1000 objects in, on average, 3 days.
-> I come back to my question: does anyone have any idea what the Import Wizard needs to migrate Personal Documents from Webi 6.5 to BOXI?

  • BusinessObjects Enterprise XI r2 - Import Wizard

I am using BusinessObjects Enterprise XI r2 - Import Wizard to migrate reports from one platform to the next.
I need to be able to migrate only the universes associated with the report being migrated or not migrate the unviverses with the report. I can migrate them all at once.
My problem is when I un-check the flag to "import universes" the universes lose their link to the DB on the destination platform. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Gavin,
Also... you could try creating the BIAR file by only selecting a few objects and see if this works. As Tim has mentioned, size also becomes a problem.
I has this before, exporting everthing from enterprise into the BIAR file and then when I wanted to import it back to the same server i.e used it as a backup, the BIAR file size on disk was big, but when I wanted to get access to the content, it there was nothing... just a big file.
If the small selections are working for you, then created seperate BIAR files for the objects etc.

  • Migrating a webi report from one environment to another using import wizard

    Hi Everyone,
Can anyone please tell me what all access should I have on my ID to be able to migrate a webi report from one environment to another environment(e.g. from development to quality).
    Regards,
    Neeraj Sharma

    Hi,
To use the Import Wizard utility, you basically need Administrator, Full Control to Top-level folder, and "Add objects to the folder" and "Edit objects" for this user on the root folder.
You need the least restrictive role, because you require absolute control for content promotion between 2 entitlement systems.
the webi document is the cherry on-top,  you;ll have universes, connections, folders to bring over too.

    H
p.s. check Note 1450708 - How to restrict access to the Import Wizard from a Business Objects Enterprise system

  • Import wizard logon error

When attempting to log onto a system using the cluster name, the Import
    Wizard returns the following error:
Error logging on to server. Check logon information and try again.

IW works by making a connection to a CMS I don't think it was designed for or recommended to try to have it bounce between CMS's. Even if you could get this to work I would imagine it could cause data integrity problem trying to keep up with which CMS is transferring to where...
    Use the CMS name

    Hello
The following solution may work for u.
You may receive the above error message if BusinessObjects Enterprise tries to access  database after the associated RSS file has been deleted or corrupted. You need to replace the deleted or corrupted RSS file with a clean copy of the file, either from another BusinessObjects Enterprise installation

  • Import Wizard Not Translating CMS_HOST to Correct IP Address

I'm trying to run the BOXIR2 import wizard to import objects from PROD to DEV.  The PROD server was moved several months ago, and this is the first time the import wizard has run since then.  When I type in the CMS_NAME of the PROD host, I get an error message saying that it cannot connect to the CMS, and the IP Address that it is trying to actually connect to is the "old" PROD server address.
When I ping the hostname of the PROD server, the correct "new" IP address is resolved.  Does BOXIR2 have a separate location where it stores CMS_NAME hosts, and an IP address for it?

I've confirmed that there is no firewall between the two servers.
The error message is "Error Logging on to server.  Check logon information and try again (IWZ 00001).  Transport error :  Communication failure".  Also, it only appears when selecting the "destination" in the wizard.  The first screen is the source, and that goes through ok.  I've also tried it from both servers, PRD to DEV, and DEV to PRD.  Both times it errors when selecting the destination.
I would think that the import wizard can't communicate with the CMS, but I'm not clear on how the Import Wizard connects.  Does it have a settings file or registry entry that I can edit?
    Thanks.

  • CMS Administrator Import Wizard Help

Is there a way to grant privileges/permissions to a user so that the user can use the import wizard to migrate objects, LOV, reports with dynamic cascading parameters, etc? I am the administrator and one of our agencies is looking to use our enterprise servers, but they want/need to be able to use the import wizard without having access to other agency's objects.

    Bill,
You can find the various guides at
    http://help.sap.com/content/bobj/overview/index.htm
Select Business Objects Enterprise in the first dropdown  and Business Objects Enterprise 3 in the second and you should find the installation and admin guides.

  • Why doesn't import wizard list a browser to choose

Trying to import IE Favorites......Using import Wizard....I click on Import data from another browser and there are no browsers to choose. What gives?

Edmeister......First off.....I must say thanks for sticking this out with me and keeping me persistant. This is what I did: First.....I already had gone into the XP partition and exported the favorites to an html file and stored them in My Documents. The problem was: how to get this file to the other partition. So.....I thought.....why not email it to the other partition. Then....I tried to email it but my Yahoo! email was out-dated. Then up pops a page that says : Download FOXFIRE! What happened.....Did Yahoo buy out Foxfire? Or vice-versa? Did they Merge? Whatever it was didn't matter to me. It made perfect sense to download it because it would ask me to create a user name and password which I had already done on the other partition in order to Sync with other devices. So.....I downloaded & installed Foxfire in XP and up pops the Import Wizard asking me if I wanted to transfer favorites...etc over to wherever. BINGO! YES! YES! YES! When finished.....I Shut down XP and went over to the other partition where Ubuntu and Foxfire resided. And.....WALLA! It worked. It wasn't a line of print for me to click on like it was on AT&T's Start Page but it worked. The favorites were loaded into Foxfire's Bookmarks as if they had been there all along. AT&T must have had some way of transferring the favorites back when I originally went through this. So......I Thank You once again for not deserting me. Pass this one on.

  • Cannot import LDAP group through Import Wizard.

    Hello,
We have a issue where we are unable to import Ldap group if we use cluster name while logging into Import Wizard.
we are able to import the LDAP users/groups if we use the primary CMS name while logging into Import Wizard
Is this a known issue in XI R2 SP 3 or are we missing out something?
    Please help!!!
    Thanks...

I'm really surprised the import wizard even works with a clustername. Considering it's design is to migrate from 1 CMS to another it should require a CMS name and not a clustername. I don't think using clusternames was ever part of its design. It's even more bizarre that a clustername would conflict with LDAP. SP3 had several other LDAP bugs that are fixed in SP4 but other than that I'm not sure. What's the issue with using just 1 CMS name. This should be desirable so you can control which CMS gets the added load from the IW, otherwise it would just randomly select one.

  • Upgrading CE 10 to Business Objects XIR3 by using Import Wizard

    Hi Guys,
We are upgrading Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects XI3, I have installed Business Objects XI3 on a new server, I will be using Import Wizard to import Objects, groups, Users ect... Do I need to copy the contents of the CE10 FRS input and output directories to the BOE XI3 FRS input and output directories?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Burhan

Do I need to copy the contents of the CE10 FRS input and output directories to the BOE XI3 FRS input and output directories?
No. Do not do this. The import wizard will migrate your objects and copy them to the FRS in 3.x format for you, nothing manual like this is needed.

  • Migration Errors while using import wizard

    Hi,
I am very new to BO.
Currently we are migrating BO 6.1 b to BO XI R3 version. I am using Import Wizard tool.
I am logging into SOURCE and DESTINATION in import wizard as ADMIN and trying to import only Universe and Reports.
All Our Universes are under domain BO_UNV and Reports are under BO_RPT domain.
After all the steps in import wizard when i look into detail logs i see the following error messages..
for BO_UNV and BO_RPT domains ==> Reason: Sorry, you do not have the right to 'Add objects to the folder' (ID: 1) for 'Root Folder' (ID: 23). Please contact your administrator if you require this right.
for Universe and reports ==> Cannot find parent object..
Please do needful.. i have been struggling with this for few days.. and cant go a head with migration

    Hi kuhn,
    Thanks for reply..
I have been trying with ADMIN credentials.. but could not find any progress..
My doubt is when i login into CMC  , i am able to add new subfolders, but could not add folder under root one i.e All Folders in our environment.. what exactly are the rights i required for migration

  • HTMLDB v1.6 bug spreadsheet import wizard

    Hi HTMLDB Team,
A major HTMLDB 1.6.1 bug found as follows:
The problem found when importing data thru Spreadsheet wizard of Data workshop.
Say, i have a table where with other fields the two more field added as created_by and created_date.A trigger is created on that table to keep track of user and time
so before insert of any row that two field created_by and created_date will be updated. But if i have created_by field with 10 varchar but the actual user name came as 20 varchar from a spredsheet csv input. unfortunately while updating other column from csv the trigger first got disabled and then update other column but actually in ideal condition it must throw error mentioning that the field length must be large than the present one.So finally the other fields updated while trigger is not fired.
So HTMLDB team must notice the runtime error throw by the spreadsheet data import wizard.
Any further issue how to get rid of that kind of runtime?
Hope in future release that bug can be fixed.....
    Cheers,
    Eman

Just tried on htmldb.oracle.com (1.6.1) and it doesn't work.
I created application 45782 in GLENMORRIS workspace, with a very simple calendar which allows clicking on an item and it links to the same page and displays the selected value.
Exported this app and imported under new application id 22563. The new application no longer has the link in the calendar.
Searched the bug database in metalink and couldn't find anything.
    Any ideas on this?
It looks like I may have to edit our production application as the link has gone missing between the export from test and the import into prod.

  • BW Publisher + Lifecycle Manager + Import Wizard  Repository Objects

    Hi,
I would like to ask advice about moving reports from a for example a QA to Production enviornment.
    BW 3.5, BOXI 3.1 (SP1 currently / possibly SP2 )
I have reports which have been published using BW Publisher which have Parameters populated by BW.
I have other reports which have parameters which are populated by Business Views.
I have reports which are a combination of BW Queries and a Universe built upon a SQL server 2008 Database.
I have tried publishing the Report using the (NON SAP) Universe via BW Publisher and I get an error.
Also I realise that the BW publisher will not move the Business Views Repository Objects and NON SAP Universe to the Production Enviornment.
What is your suggestion regarding moving these reports?
I can only think that some reports will be moved using BW Publisher and others using the LIfeCycle Manager.
Am I correct in assuming that LCM will not move BW Published reports to the new Business Objects Installation correctly (because they will point to the BW Server which originally published them. Can the Schedule Manager perhaps not take care of this for me?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Nicole

Thank you all for your replies
I have other reports which have parameters which are populated by Business Views.
<h5> I had issues moving these with LCM and even the Import wizard which I eventually only resloved by Moving the Business Views and LOVs using Business View Manager Import and Export wizard - I still had to map LOV to the objects within the existing business views but got them working!
The reports (even the ones using business views) ran correctly (except for Parameters - see below) after transporting using the BW Publisher and Content Administration Workbench</h5>
I have reports which are a combination of BW Queries and a Universe built upon a SQL server 2008 Database.
<h5> Have not tested yet but managed to transport using SAP Transport </h5>
I have reports which have been published using BW Publisher which have Parameters populated by BW.
<h5>Ironically here is where I have an issue
I am having an issue with Report Parameters:
Dev Server: BW publisher / Infoview populates Parameters LOV at run time.
QA Server: only static parameters are shown.
Both servers should have identical software BOE 3.1  and SAP Integration Kit 3.1
Both Servers have BW Publisher configured and I am publishing from the Content Administrator Workbench.
The only difference I can think of in Terms of the servers is that Reports were published to DEV using SAP Menu in Crystal Reports and on QA I transported the Reports from DEV and THEN published them in QA.
Authorizations are also different u2013 in DEV I have Sap_All and in Dev I have a role.</h5>
I was also having issues getting "My Groups" to appear in Infoview but this is resloved and I believe was due to authorisations and roles - not having the correct one.
I am installing SP2 on a 3rd server to test if the issue would be resolved.
Tell me does BW require a different transport to communicate with a BOE server installed with SP2?
    Kind Regards,
    Nicole
