Where is "insert" key on iMac keyboard

I really need to use insert and del key in order to debug a program because an old program requires the usage of these keys and there is no key configuration available.
Obviously Mac keyboard doesn't have insert key. However, I used to be able to activate it through using clear+0, but now I can't, and I forgot how to activate it.
Please let me know about it if anyone knows. Thanks.

It may be the 'fn' key based upon the following:

  • Where is Insert key

    What keys are the pc equivalent of Insert on a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion?
    Or how do I programme a shortcut to create a key please?

    I have just spent time looking into this, this morning.
    Here's my solution. I decided that on my MacBook Pro & Apple Bluetooth Keyboard I want to just make one of my keys an 'Insert' key. The key that I NEVER use and is conveniently placed is the 'Section' key or 'double s' [top left hand corner under the escape key].
    To remap this key I used Karabiner (https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/). It's an excellent key remapping software.
    Unfortunately this particular key swap was not already programmed in the software so you need to modify the private.xml file. See here for details (https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/xml.html.en)
    As I was wanting this key swap for Lotus Notes I changed the 'section' key to a key combination (shift+command+U), but you could easily change it to 'insert'.
    Here is the xml code for both:
    'Section' to 'shift+command+U'
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <root>
    <item>
        <name>Make § Key Insert Key</name>
        <identifier>private.section_to_insert</identifier>
        <autogen>__KeyToKey__ KeyCode::UK_SECTION, KeyCode::U, ModifierFlag::COMMAND_L, ModifierFlag::SHIFT_L</autogen>
      </item>
    </root>
    'Section' to 'PC Insert'
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <root>
    <item>
        <name>Make § Key Insert Key</name>
        <identifier>private.section_to_insert</identifier>
        <autogen>__KeyToKey__ KeyCode::UK_SECTION, KeyCode::PC_INSERT</autogen>
      </item>
    </root>
    Hope this helps.

  • MacbookPro 2014 Keyboard - where is pipe key on British keyboard?

    I have a MacBook Pro (2014) and cannot type the pipe key. The pipe symbol appears on the physical key above the backslash, which suggests that holding the shift key while pressing the key should type a pipe symbol - however a tilde (~) results.
    I have tried all sorts of combinations with the Alt and **** keys on all the keys on the keyboard with no luck.
    Could anyone help me with this information?

    Hi SueMcL,
    If you are seeing a tilde typed when you expect a pipe, you may want to double check to see if your keyboard layout/input source has been set to "British-PC" as opposed to "British" or other English language layouts. On the British-PC layout, the tilde is above the right return key and the pipe key is moved to the key to the left of the "1" key. For more information on changing layouts, or to see what keys the computer is mapped for if they don't match your physical keyboard markings, you may find the following articles helpful:
    OS X Yosemite: Use input sources to type in other languages
    OS X Yosemite: Use the Keyboard Viewer

  • One stuck key on iMac keyboard after spill

    I took off all the keys, cleaned and replaced after an orange juice spill (ugh!) - but now just the spacebar will not work. I've tried prodding and WD40 but nothing works. All other keys are fine.

    Hi redgen, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
    Just the space bar. Amazing.
    I saw a thread recently where let it dry for days was helpful. If you don't have a spare keyboard that would probably mean buy a new one unless you can do
    w/o the computer for that long.
    Adding to your problem is the goo from the OJ. You might want to flush it somehow w water and then let it dry. All very problematic. Bite the bullet and give it up may—ultimately—be the answer. Maybe a spare time research project.

  • Return key on iMac Keyboard Has Suddenly Stopped Working

    I'm using an iMac purchased in April 2007 and it is using the older white Apple keyboard (model A1048).
    All of a sudden, after a shutdown and a startup, the Return key has stopped working (the Enter key on the keypad still works).
    Nothing was spilled on it and no one has hit it too hard. I popped off the key to check if there was anything that could explain why it wasn't working. No dirt and the key depresses properly.
    I also took the keyboard over to a Dell PC running WinXP and tested it there as well. Every key worked except for the Return key.
    So, my question is, is there some serious hardware flaw that basically means that I need to get a new keyboard or is there some other explanation and method for correcting the issue?

    Having the same issue, would love to know if you were able to resolve it. I'm also not able to use Tab, Return, and F12 for some reason.

  • New Apple Keyboard and Insert Key

    I'm using the new Apple Keyboard (http://www.apple.com/keyboard/) and I'm quite happy with it. The only big disadvantage is the missing Insert-Key, the Apple Keyboard has a function (fn) Key, where the insert-key is normally located. I need the insert-key especially for selecting in midnight commander. What would be the best way to remap the insert-key to the fn-key for console and X-Windows?

    Here are some relevant other threads:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56619
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=55482
    These are just threads I've participated in; I'm sure there are more. The bottom line is: check with showkey (in the Linux console) or xev (in X) to see how the fn key is getting recognized. If it's working just like another key on the keyboard, e.g., like space or shift, then you can remap it the same way you'd remap any key. (The process is different for Linux console than for X.) But most likely it's not working just like another key on the keyboard, in which case it will be difficult/impossible to remap it to insert. However, you could always choose another key, or key combination, to remap to insert. Perhaps even a key combination of the form fn+KEY. The kernel won't recognize fn as a modifier like shift or control, but it should recognize SOME fn+KEY combinations as being SOME keyboard keys. For example, on my keyboard fn+left arrow is recognized as Home. I think that as far as the kernel and all the key-remapping tools can tell, I only pressed Home on my keyboard not any combination including left arrow.

  • Insert key of keyboard is not working after installing firefox

    I was using IE8 as my browser before but recently changed to Firefox. My keyboard was functioning perfectly before I installed Firefox. Now whenever I type text (mostly when composing a message/draft in Google's gmail or Hotmail) the Insert key of the keyboard is not working. This is just not a problem in Gmail or Hotmail but with all programmes!!

    Firefox is always in insert mode and doesn't support overwriting text, so you will have to use the Delete or Backspace key to remove unwanted characters.

  • Yoga 3 Pro - Certain Keys Missing from Keyboard. How to virtually use them?

    Hi.
    I have bought this for about a week and was not happy about the combination of "Home" and "End" keys since I use them a lot. In using VMWare I noticed there is no "Insert" key on the keyboard at all, thus I cannot use the Ctrl+Alt+Insert functionality in my virtual machines. Today, a random combination of keys was pressed on the keyboard and the "Scroll Lock" was enabled, and guess what: There is no scroll lock in the Yoga 3 Pro! Now I have no idea how to disable this again and non of the forums or manuals have addressed this.
    (Lenovo design team has made is specifically hard for users. Not only the keyboard layout and certain keys are removed, but even I cannot find a spare chargin cable for my officec. They have changed everything - even Yoga 2 Pro charging cable is not compatible - and yet not available in the market. Not a very smart strategy )
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Welcome to the forum!
    I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I had to really take a look at my own Y3P to realize there is no Insert key, I guess I got too used to the touchscreen
    To get rid of the Scroll Lock you can press the combination Fn+C.
    Alternatively you can also go to the Control Panel, then "Easy of Access Center" and start the On-Screen Keyboard, you can disable the Scroll lock from there too.

  • How to replace Insert key? Need for Maya!!!

    Hi, I've just bought MBP 2.16 Ghz, 100 Gb 7200rpm, 2 Gb RAM for graphic prog-s a. animation. But there is no INSERT key on my keyboard, which I really need for Alias Maya.
    Does anybody know how to replace the INSERT key with key combinations or somehow?
    tnx
    Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.16 Ghz, 2 Gb RAM

    I think... and I use the word think loosely...
    That you can go into system prefs --> keyboard & mouse --> keyboard shortcuts and add the function you want... it can be overall for the OS, or it can be specific for the application.
    I hope that works for you.
    My external keyboard doesn't even have "insert"... so it may not be possible

  • Where is the insert button on the wireless imac keyboard?

    insert button on the keyboard? I was told that we do not have one.

    What do you mean by "insert"?  Insert what to where in what?
    Could you be referring to the "Enter" key?

  • I bought this very nice iMac. The first time I ever use a Apple product. Can someone please tell me where the delete key is on the keyboard. I cannot think for one moment that Apple did not provide for such a key. Please help.

    I bought this very nice iMac. The first time I ever use a Apple product. Can someone please tell me where the delete key is on the keyboard. I cannot think for one moment that Apple did not provide for such a key. Please help.

    The delete key does a backward delete because it is the natural way to delete while typing. May not be to you and the millions of youngsters who grew up with windows computers. When you are typing and want to delete that which you just typed you are already at the end and you delete back to where you want to re-type. When you go back to a document and want to delete a selection, you have to go to the end of the selection instead of the beginning. it's just the way its always been done on macs. it takes some getting use to.
    If you select text to be deleted with your mouse then the delete key deletes the selected text. same for either delete key method.
    It is not convenient when you tab to fields in a form. That why fn-delete does a forward delete.
    Macs have a couple of keyboards. The small "wireless keyboard" only has the (backward) delete (fn-delete forward). The larger "Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" has both a Delete (backwards) key beside the = abd it has the "delete >" key in the groups with fn, home, end, Pg up and Pg dn. This keyboard is best for users who have switched from windows or are familiar with the windows forward delete.

  • Where's the insert key on the new keyboards?

    I'm using Maya right now and the insert key is used to adjust the pivot point of objects. However, I don't see an insert key on this here new keyboard.

  • PC key caps for iMac keyboard

    I am planning to switch from PC to iMac as soon as the 2012 iMac becomes available (whenever that may be). Since I use my current desktop for work and gaming, I plan to run Boot Camp with Windows 7 all the time. I prefer the look and feel of the iMac keyboard, but would still prefer a PC keyboard layout, so I my question is this: where can I buy PC keycaps on the iMac keyboard. The keys in questions would be:
    iMac key     PC key
    cmd left       alt
    cmd right     alt gr
    alt left          windows
    alt right        menu
    f13               insert
    f14               print screen
    f15               pause/break
    I have found several websites that sell replacement keycaps for iMac keyboards, but I have not found any that sell PC keycaps for iMac keyboards. Any tips?

    Thanks, The hatter, but I would prefer to keep the iMac keyboard since I really like its look and feel. No idea where I can buy PC keycaps for it?
    I just strikes me, wouldn't this be something Apple could sell to custmers that buy iMacs to use primarily with Windows? I mean, since switching to Intel processors and offering Bootcamp, Windows would as natural a choice for iMac users as OS X?
