Where is Library in the Finder in Lion?

I recently upgraded to Lion, and since then I cannot see my "Library" folder in the Finder under my "Home Folder". Any idea where it is?

It is there, just hidden.  From your home folder, select "go to folder" and type in "library".  It will magically appear

I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive.  I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space.  Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb.  Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
    -eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
    -live happily ever after
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!

If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.
-move aperture library to live on external drive
Managed or Referenced Library? Managed -
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Aperture
    2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced -  relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.
-import iphoto library into aperture library
FIle -> Import -> iPhoto Library? Have you done this already? If so are you trying to move the Masters to Aperture from an  iPhoto Library? Or Consolidate them?
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
You can't. Every photo is in a Project.  They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app  you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

  • Accessing aperture library from the finder

I'm new to aperture and struggling. I upload my photos but can't see my aperture library from the finder. I shoot in RAW and want to do a batch save as jpegs. I'd like to create a folder within my project but it won't see my aperture library. I'm trying to read through the manual but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Help!

As I learned, this only uploads the previews, not the raw file that you see when using aperture. This means any modifications you've made won't be applied.
Sorry, but that's wrong. The previews contain ALL modifications you've applied as long as they're up to date. That's pretty much the point of previews.
I've seen a lot of confusion these past few days regarding the Aperture workflow. I think it's pretty important to understand how Aperture works before jumping in. As Terence mentioned the whole point of the app is to manage everything within its database. Forget the Finder. Even if you use referenced files - as I do - Aperture still should be command central.
There's also quite a few posts that seem to mistake RAW for an actual format. It isn't. RAW is just sensor data that needs to be interpreted. It's very powerful because it allows much wider editing of parameters that would otherwise be hard to modify after the fact (exposure, white balance etc). But you don't want to upload RAW files to the web because 1) they wouldn't be compatible and 2) they'd either look pretty dull or be interpreted differently from what you intended.
I hope I'm not coming off like a blowhard here. But reading the manual and understanding the why and how of Aperture (or any other DAM) is the only way to get the most out of your purchase. This isn't iPhoto with more stuff - there's a very different paradigm here.

  • My old eyes ask: Why was pinch to zoom removed from the finder in Lion?

Pinch to Zoom was one of Snow Leopard's major comforts for me. I don't recall that Apple had ever removed a cool feature before. Every update brings disappointment and 10.7.3 is no exception.

access the seeing option in the universal access section of system preferences.  Apple have removed several features that people have loved..Front Row and access to PPC apps are a few gone in Lion.

You cannot use Lion until you have upgraded to 10.6.8:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
You received a coupon you can use and redeem on the App Store to download Lion. There is no App Store in Leopard.

You must buy Lion through the Mac App Store. You will find it in your Applications folder. Open the app. Sign into the the MAS using the same account that you use for the iTunes stores and click the link for Lion on the right side of the store window.

  • How do I get my Time Machine to appear as a disk in the Finder (wireless) and where do I find the place to assign TM ports to a NAS (Pogoplug v.4). Runnig 10.7 Lion on iMac. Thanks

I am trying to set up Pogoplug Series4 as a NAS attached to my Time Machine router. The TM does not appear as a drive in the Finder and I cannot locate it to assign ports to the PP device. Running 10.7 on an iMac. Time Machine and Time Capsule work fine for backup and internet, I just cannot find it.
    Thanks, Ken

After I posted the question, I finally figured out that I needed to open the necessary ports to allow the Pogoplug website to communicate  with my computer. After navigating to the proper area (in Airport Utility) and authorizing  the ports, it seems to work. The Pogoplug device is neither as easy, intuitive or plug-and-play is it claims to be. We will see if it was worth the effort.
Podini's Time Machine FAQ's is a good resource, however. Thanks for sharing.

  • Where are the finder prefs located?

Finder prefs used to be located in Library>Prefs>com.apple.plist.
Where are they located in Lion......don't see them in the above location?

Icons on my Finder toolbar are about 1/3 smaller than they were in 10.6. Display resolution is the same as before.
Below is my Finder bar in 10.6 and underneath it is my Fiinder bar in 10.7. The outline (snapshot) area of the toolbars are the same in both pics. Repairing the permissions fix'd the problem for about an hour yesterday but then it reverted back.
I just noticed that the screenshots don't really show anything.....take my word for it, the icons are smaller. Yes, I'm looking for the Finder plist. When I go to the Prefs folder I don't see com.apple.finder.plist.

  • I have a Nano, where I changed computers and moved my library.  Now my nano doesn't recognize the location or the song on the nano.  How do I update my library so the nano will recognize.

I  have an IPOD Nano.  I had it originally set up on another computer where I would down load my songs that I purchased from ITunes.  My Nano would sync up with my PC when I would plug it in.  I had to change computers, so I moved all my songs / library to my new PC.  I downloaded the ITunes process to my new PC and then purchased a song.  I saw the song in my download area of my PC under ITunes Media / downloads.  However, my nano would not sync as it is still referencing the prior location, which was on my old PC.  I moved the song directly to the Nano when it was plugged in.  I see the song on the Nano directory when I have it plugged in to the PC via the USB cable.  I even click on the song and I hear it play from the Nano on the PC.  However, when I go to look for the song directly from my song listing from the Nano music screen, it doesn't list he song or the artist as being on the Nano.
I have tried to follow the online instructions for erase and sync the old library to the new, but that doesn't happen.  Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong in moving from one PC to another.  Seems to me this should be a much simplier process.  But I find working with Apple products they are all harder to deal with.  I would appreciate your help.
    Mel

I am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes.  I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format.  However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there.  I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC.  I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.
    Thanks for your help, Mel

I wasn't able to check this thread (nor retrieve the email) until I got in.
Here's what I did (which, I imagine, is effectively the same as you suggested):
I pushed the power button (although I don't recall if I held it down for any particular length of time),
and after at least an hour I unplugged the power cord from the back and plugged it back in.
Then I pushed the power button again, and it appears to have powered up 'normally'. (I'm not sure I could recognize a difference, if it were subtle.)
My finder bar is again at the top of my screen, where it was originally.
It seems I can do most everything I was unable to do.
So... how do I avoid this in the future?
there is no preventive maintenance for something like this. just don't unplug external devices before finder is finished with them.
OR, Is there something further I should do?
no, you should be fine now.

Where in god’s name is the homesharing button, I see a little cloud that you cannot click on and tells you what account you have but that's it. There's an option for turning on and off homesharing, but no button to access the actual library of the other PC. On either PCs. Both are logged in and both are registered for homesharing. however because apple keeps updating and moving things around for no reason there appears to be no way of accessing the homsharing button in the latest version of itunes. the website refers to " Once set up, all the libraries from your computers you've enabled Home Sharing on will show up in the SHARED area of iTunes:" well I have searched all over in the recent itunes versions and there is no "shared area" to be found.
Please find the attachment of a screen cap of my itunes.
If anyone can help by telling me where it has been moved to or if it even still exists that would be much appreciated.

  • Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?

Message title says it: Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?
I can't find anything in the Knowledge Base that says these two options no longer work or still do.
I do not have a system capable of running Lion, but I need to know the answer nonetheless.

Gee, I don't know: "paste attachments mail Lion"? ;-)
One further question, if I may: in Panther (which is where I've aggregated nearly 7 years of mail), if you copy more than one file in the Finder, switch to Mail, and paste the files into a new message, only the file names paste in. If you copy one file and paste it into a Mail message, you get the file, not just the name. Is that still true, or has that (IMHO) bug been fixed since 10.3.9?
