  • HT1660 where is the information about which itunes library i'm on in itunes 11

With the new itunes 11, I'm now unable to see which itunes library I have recalled.  Where can I find this information on the new itunes player? (it used to be on the top, telling you which library it is)
I can still do a "hold down option key while clicking the itunes icon on the dock" - this will get me a panel which asks which itunes library to choose.  However, after I have chosen my itunes library and the new itunes player comes up, the info isn't there.
I do not want to sync the wrong library with either my iphone or ipod.  Please help.  A new player/feature (ie, new itunes 11) should follow the spirit of Steve Jobs- intuitive interface.  And not REGRESS, and just because he's not here now, are you going the way of windows?  - cumbersome, non-intiutive interfaces?  Please don't.
The devices I'm using- iphone 4 and ipod touch 4.

    I only have a workaround.
    Quit iTunes
do a search for "itunes library.itl" and look at the last modified date and time.

How to get existing library imported to new itunes install, old library was not backed up or exported.  This occured due to Win 7 user profile was corrupt.

I know that in Mac OS X one can pick which library to use by holding down the option key while starting iTunes. What's the Windows equivalent?
    Press the Shift key.
WIll the fact that the music is now on another physical drive make a difference
    No.
I know the previous install is at least 7.0, but I have no idea about which point release.
Try checking the content of the iTunes Music Library.xml file.
Finally, what's the expected behaviour (or required procedure) with respect to reauthorization of this computer to use the same ITMS-purchased files?
You will be asked to reauthorize the computer.

  • Add library missing on new itunes

Not sure what the new iTunes version it is but the most recent version appears to have the "add library" feature no longer available - just the add songs feature. I make most of my song information changes in MediaMonkey before transferring my songs to my main music folder for iTunes to add to my iPod Touch (3Gen). How do I rescan my library now?

Miniplayer is there - but with such reduced functionality it is a wast of time!!.
Don't upgrade.  Some people have managed to downgrade but I've have no luck so am now having to search for an alternative player.
Interestingly, most companies with decent software gradually try to make it better - but Apple seems to just make it worse and more restricted.  Apple used to take great care over their UI and UE but these days I dread every update every upgrade as you never know how much you will lose.  I very nearly switch to Windows for my new laptop but, had purchased quite a lot of expensive software (e.g. Photoshop) and it was only that that stopped made my new rMBP Apple rather than Windows.  And every update I realise I made a mistake.
Come on Apple.  Think about your users.  Please.  You had a market leader and are throwing it away.

  • I cannot search my library on the new itunes. Is it possible to return to the old version

The new iTunes has appeared on my desktop where I have my main music library. I am finding it impossible to search for compilation albums. It will only offer a single track from the album. Basically a large proportion of my library is inaccessible. Is it possible to revert to the old iTunes?

iTunes 11 has a new search feature that is enabled by default. Whereas the old function narrowed down the list of tracks displayed in the main window the new feature generates a seperate results window from which you can select Albums, Artists or Songs to either play immediately via the new Up Next feature or add to any of your playlists. While it might be possible to get used to the new version for playback, the original behaviour is both familiar and more useful for library management tasks. Thankfully you can restore the old behaviour by clicking the search magnifying glass and unticking the label Search Entire Library.

You may also find it helps to restore the menu bar with ctrl-b and enable the side bar with ctrl-s. The same shortcuts will hide these features again. There is also a status bar that can be enabled with ctrl-/ but it seems a bug prevents it being turned off again under Window XP.
iTunes 11 with side, menu & status bars enabled
If you still want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the installer from here, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.
If you don't already do so I would also advise you backup the whole library on a regular basis.

  • How do I delete the duplicate items in my library on the new iTunes?

I just backed up my library on a new external hard drive and noticed that all my media is doubled up. Aside from going through each item is there a way to do this on the latest version of itunes. There use to be a way via the file and clicking on duplicates items....Please help I have over 20000+ items!!!

Apple has removed that feature along with several others, but
(5/12/2012) Missing 'Find Duplicates' feature in iTunes 11 to be restored - http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57557280-263/missing-find-duplicates-featur e-in-itunes-11-to-be-restored/    "Some of the features Apple has removed from iTunes will see a return, but others may indicate changes to come elsewhere in Apple's product lines."
Until then you will have to resort to sorting by a particular label such as artist and manually scanning, third party utilities such as Dougscripts Dupin to deal with duplicates, or revert back to iTunes 10.7.
Somewhere you're not doing something correctly.  Backing up a library should not produce duplicates.  There's no way it can.

  • Library wiped when new iTunes istalled?

    Hey,
I have a MacBook Pro and the latest 80GB iPod. I have only had a couple problems with an error messages when trying to sync, error 51 I believe, but having recently downloaded the new iTunes I have had nothing but library problems!
Firstly, when I opened the newley downloaded iTunes my entire library collection was gone but now having recofigured, it's gone again! I am getting somewhat frustrated as I cannot plug in my iPod for fear of loosing my library there.
I'm not sure what the problem is or really what to do about it. It would seem that the music is still sitting in iTunes folders but iTunes doesnt seem to have found them.
My one other question is: Some of my music folders no longer contain MP3/4 files but black/gray 'exec' files. Any idea how to get them back?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Jo

Some of my music folders no longer contain MP3/4 files but black/gray 'exec' files. Any idea how to get them back?
These files have spent time on Windows formatted disk, and have lost their file suffix. You can re-attach a file suffix using an app like File List. To prevent a recurrence, keep your files on Mac formatted disks.
In regard to your main problem:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iTunes. Use the Locate command to point iTunes at your iTunes folder, inside your music folder.

  • How do I find total number of songs in my library in the new iTunes 11?

Last version of iTunes showed the total number of songs within the library on the bottom of the screen.  Now that's disappeared and I don't know where to find that piece of info.
    Any suggestions?

    Click View>Show Sidebar
It looks about like the old version.
Or you can simply click your ipod name at the top of your screen and sync as always.
The new version is not that different from the old one

  • How can I use an existing iTunes library with a new iTunes account

My daughter is going to college, and wants to untangle herself from the family iTunes account. Right now, we have three iPods with libraries on three computers, all using my iTunes account - and have had no problems.
She has signed up for a new account, but her previously purchased songs (on my account) won't play on her computer (new computer, iTunes is currently almost empty library), because it is authorized to HER iTunes account.
What is the best way to import her iTunes library that was created using my account onto her new computer? (Old library is on a PC, she now has an iBook, purchased used on eBay.) Is there any way to get these songs to play using her new account info? Can I maybe copy them somewhere without the metadata and then move them into her library? I realize that would lose ratings and other info, but would it get rid of the block? I'm not trying to do anything dishonest - these are personal iPods, personal computers, all within one family, we've paid for all music on them.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!
(I posted this in the iTouch discussion, and then thought it wuold be better answered over here.)

Then can her computer be authorized to both accounts?
Absolutely. You can authorize any given computer to up to five iTunes Store accounts.
If purchases are made on her account, to a computer authorized to my account, can I put those songs on my iPod?
If you connect your iPod to her computer, yes. Tracks download only to the computer from which they're purchased, regardless of which iTunes Store account is used for the purchase. Or you could copy the tracks from her computer to yours and then authorize your computer to her iTunes Store account. But that's sort of defeating the original purpose, it would seem to me.
is it better to buy music through Amazon downloads and/or actually purchasing CDs to avoid the security features iTunes puts on its music?
That's certainly an option. If it's an entire album I want, I buy CDs. That way I can import them at the quality I want and to whichever of my systems I want. Amazon or one of the other download stores that offer tracks as MP3 are also an option, though for me download stores are best when you just want a couple of tracks off a given CD.

  • How Do I transfer ipod library over to new itunes library

I recently got a new computer so i lost everyting in the transfer.  I have windows 8 and I am trying to move all the songs from my Ipod to my new library.  When I go into the music tab on itunes it says it will delete everything on the Ipod and replace it with the few songs in the new library.  It still shows me the songs on my ipod in the "on this ipod" tab but I dont know how to sync it

The ipod is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
You may be able to purchase a third party program to get the music - not supported by Apple.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Us eyour backup copy to move everything to the new computer.

  • Warning!  Songs were removed from iTunes Library after installing new iTunes and iPad/iPod Sync

I purchased the iPad 2 yesterday, updated my itunes software, and itunes messages indicated that it would not allow certain songs to be included in my library any longer since these were not purchased from iTunes.  Many of the songs were from CDs that I stored on this library for several years.  Only after I upgraded iTunes with this new iPad was my music removed.  Luckily I still have my music on my iPod, but my iTunes library on my laptop contains only the music I have purchased from iTunes with the last 18 months.  Weirdly, except for one particular song that iTunes said was not purchased from them, but it was part of an entire album purchase from iTunes.  Also, all of the movies I purchased from iTunes were also removed. I am not able to sync any movies onto my iPad.
I restored the iPad a second time, reinstalled the itunes and have the same result.  All of my older archived music is gone from the iTunes library.
Warning, if you want your music, back it up before installing the latest iTunes particularly if you have the new iPad 2.

Hmm, it is only very recently (about 6 months ago I think) that the policy on Music changed. Prior to that you would be routinely reminded to back up all purchases (immediately after the successfully completed download), unless of course you ticked an option not to be reminded again. The change in policy (in our favour) would have been noted in the small print that neither you or I read when upgrading iTunes, though we say that we have.
Again I'm still not certain if audiobooks are excluded from both "Music" and "Books". One would hope that they belonged to one category or the other in respect of redownloading. In the past, in the event of an absolute disaster, fatal hard-drive crash, fire etc. some users have been able to prevail upon the charity of the iTunes store staff who would occasionaly grant a second, but never a third, download of past purchases.
The restictions on different types of media are ultimately imposed by the rights holders, not Apple. It is in Apple's interests to offer the same terms as their competitors, so my guess is that nobody currently offers unlimited repeat downloads of movies. Certainly the unique codes you get on some DVDs/Blu-Rays are one-time only.
Backup all (or at least the non-replaceable parts) of your library with this User Tip.
