  • Internet Connection - Your Apple wireless device does not have a valid IP.

I just bought an Apple TimeCapsule and set it up normally, following instructions to my Arris cable network on the Videotron provider here in Quebec, Canada. The TimeCapsule did appear as a wireless device on my MacBook Pro (after updating the AirPort software from the provided CD - as was instructed). I went through the whole installation process to obtain at the end this error:
Internet Connection - Your Apple wireless device does not have a valid IP.
The only provided instructions were to check the cable and then contact your Internet provider. Well it seems clear to me that if I contact my provider and say that the internet connection works fine directly on my computer, also fine through my "normal" wireless router but not with my new TimeCapsule, I won't get much of a response.
After a lot of research, a friend indicated the solution in my case.
You have to really reset the cable modem to convince it to start giving out IPs again.
    To do this:
    1. Unplug your TimeCapsule (possibly you might have to reset to factory defaults - see the documentation)
    2. Unplug your cable modem
    3. Reset your cable modem by pressing the reset button with a pen (or something) for several seconds.
    4. Plug your cable modem back in and let it reboot/restart - until the lights are back on.
    5. Plug in your TimeCapsule
Everything should now work and you can restart your AirPort set-up on your Mac.
    Good luck!

My ISP is AOL.  The service is DSL via a broadband modem.  Somewhere during the setup process there appears to be a communicatiosn issue between the Airport Extreme Base Station and the DSL modem.  When I hook the DSL modem directly to my iMac I can connect to the internet without any issues.
I tried the factory reset and the DSL modem reboot process described in other posts and seemed very close to success...until the internet setup step.  That is where this issue first presented itself.

  • Itunes and wireless devices no longer show up in upper right corner of itunes window

Help! My Internet service was interupted last week and when it returned my iTunes and wireless devices no longer show up in upper right corner of the iTunes window.  I finally figured out how to get both of my wireless devices to show up on the left hand column under devices, but nothing else shows up now in the upper right corner!  I cannot for the life of me figure this one out and the tech manual is not helping at all.  Help!

If you have the left-hand sidebar showing then that is where the store and your devices will show can be selected - if you press option-command-S if you are using a Mac, control-S on a PC, then the sidebar should be hidden and the store and device should go back to the top right. Is that what you mean ?

  • ISE Profiling for Wireless Devices (WLC 5508) like Laptops and Mobile Devices

    Hi,
We have integrated WLC 5508 to cisco ise 3315 with ios 1.1.1 and using Guest Sponsor portal for wireless guest users.
Where we have created open ssid in wlc and redirect web login portal in wlc for guest  users. We have enable all respective node in policy service for profiling and also configure snmp in wlc as well as in ise.
When guest user is connected to open ssid its get redirected to web login page of ise portal and when it gets login we are  only able to see the username which guest user login but not the end device in monitoring log.
Wireless End devices are not able to get profiled can any one tell me what configuration I need to do on ise or wlc side to profiled end guest wireless device like android, iphone and laptops

That said, looking at which devices support which IOS versions and then looking into each IOS version "ASSUMING" that every device supporting that IOS supports all of those traps is an assumption which network managers cannot take.
So back to my original question.
Where can I find a list of Alerts supported by each of the above listed products?

  • AirPort Utility is unable to fine any Apple wireless devices.

Just installed Airport Extreme. Went beautifully:
    - iMac (OSX 10.5) can connect wirelessly to Internet,
    - IBM ThinkPad (XP, SP-2) can connect wirelessly to Internet,
    - iMac can print to printer connected to the USB port of the AE
But if I try to administer the AE from IBM ThinkPad rather than from he iMac, though, and the AirPort Utility simply responds that "AirPort Utility is unable to find any Apple wireless devices [RESCAN]. Even though it is currently connected to the Internet using one .
Do I have to join a network or otherwise tell he Windows machine about the AE somehow for it to "see" it? I don't know where to turn.
Apple's doc on this subject is typically nonexistent.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I do not believe that I solve this easily. I have restarted everything, connected directly wtih CAT6, patched my XP, reset the AE, etc. The ThinkPad is a work computer, and I believe that my issue is most likely related to some level of super-firewall-encryption-keep-me-same-from-everything kind of stuff that has been installed by my company, stuff which I am not going to try to find, remove, or shut off just so I can configure the AE from here.
I have an old XP desktop connected to the AE through CAT6 that is able to read and manage the AE's configuration, and of course my iMac sees it perfectly. That will be good enough for now.
Thanks to all who suggested solutions.

  • Unable to operate my wireless devices at the higher 5GHz setting.

Hey...anyone...please help as the Linksys tech support was not worth the hour spent to figure out my problem.  I have a E4200 router.   The firmware version is 1.1.02.  I am reluctant to upgrade; however, my iMAC is picking up the 5GHz broadcast setting, but the rest of my wireless devices only recognize my lower 2.4GHz setting.  I have changed channels, my router address is changed because it conflicted with my Verizon DSL.   I do not have FIOS.  What can I do to fix this problem.  I have an ipad, 2 iphones, 2 ipod touches, 2 laptops (PCs), an XBOX, and a PS3 that needs to connect to a higher broadcast.  The connections are slow and at times get dropped.   Please help!

It is possible to buy external adapters that plug into the ethernet port of the xbox and ps3
    that connect to wifi
    they are called media adapters/bridges/etc.
The speed with G is its theoretical max is 54mbps
    The  theoretical  speed with N ( 2.4ghz or 5ghz ) is
    75mbps single stream,
    150mbps double stream,
    300mbps triple stream capable adapter
and in the case of the e4200
450mpbs with the right wifi card on the client
In theory N is supposed to have better range on (2.4)
Theory and real world expectations, are subjective to RF noise where the wifi is being operated
    For Ex:
My  house has 5 adjacent houses that are all running wifi
they are far enough except for 1, that wifi interference from them is negligable
and apartment complex is a nightmare for wifi
I have an e4200 v1 on the far left side of the house on the 1st floor
It works from the 2nd floor and from the basement  on 2.4 and 5 ghz channels
I bought a second e4200 and placed it in the basement against the right side of the house
    for coverage into the backyard
I can easily go 200ft in the yard, even with the router being indoors
and still get strong fast connections, even on an iphone or ipad
the single router on the 1st on the other side of the house did also work in the yard,
its just that the strength outside wasnt as good as I wanted it to be
I run them on channels 1 and 6 for 2.4ghz
    and on 149 and 153 for 5ghz
the ssid on 2.4 is the same on both routers, but not the same as the 5ghz
the ssid on 5ghz is same on both routers, but not the same as the 2.4ghz
this allows the clients to roam routers based on signal strength
and still be connected to the same network
In theory I could have used the same ssid for everything
and the client should/could/would pick the one that has the best strength
but you would not know which one from a client perspective was chosen
but in some cases maybe that is the best choice
    ignorance is bliss =)

  • ITunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from an external drive (or streamed from other wireless devices). Any solution in sight?

Video streaming of DRM movies, purchased from iTunes and other vendors, to any iOS device is not working.

I am not sure if you really understand the issue at hand. Possibly that you are just scanning, not reading the whole text, or simply that you just want to close a thread with your last words or derail it for whatever strange reason. So far you have been more destructive than helpful, but again this could be ignorance at best.
If you would have had the decency to read the entire thread you would have come to the conclusion that every manufacturer, I came across, has posted FAQ's to this issue but Apple. Find a short excerpt below:
SeaGate  http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006135en?language=en_US <http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006135en?language=en_US> Playing DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected movies in Seagate Media App Information regarding remote streaming of DRM protected movies. Most forms of DRM (Digital Rights Management) will prevent playing movies on unauthorized devices or from remote storage hosted on wireless drives or NAS drives(Seagate Wireless, Seagate Wireless Plus, Seagate Central or Seagate Personal Cloud). Movies purchased from iTunes can be streamed to iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices which were authorized from remote storage (the video could be selected in Seagate Media App and would be played in a Safari browser), however in iOS 8 this has stopped working. A bug has been filed with Apple, however this functionality has not been restored. Therefore, DRM protected movies purchased on iTunes can no longer be played on devices running iOS 8.
SanDisk  http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes <http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes> Videos purchased or rented from iTunes will not play in iOS 8 The SanDisk Wireless Media Drive and Wireless Flash Drive support streaming of DRM protected iTunes purchased movie content to authorized devices in iOS 6 and iOS 7 ONLY. The DRM protected content is opened in Safari where the DRM is decrypted and the video is played. iOS 8 issue In iOS 8 Apple device has NOT enabled Safari based DRM decryption. Therefore DRM protected content, i.e. purchased movies or TV shows from iTunes, CANNOT be streamed from the Media Drive/WFD in iOS 8. This issue has been reported to Apple. We do not have any estimated date when Safari will support DRM decryption of iTunes purchased content.

Here are the remaining issues that we are aware of in the iOS 8 general release: • Video streaming of DRM movies (purchased from iTunes and other vendors): iTunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from AirStash (or streamed from other wireless devices). These movies are digitally protected and the AirStash app sends them to the Safari browser to play (which works for all prior iOS versions). However, in iOS 8, Safari will no longer allow DRM movies to play. These movies will play when the video is transferred to the iPhone/iPad and played in the Apple's Video App or the corresponding App from the vendor.

If this is the case and Apple will not address this issue or fix it since Apple believes that movies should be protected this way, you need to let the community know that movies are restricted this way. • Atheros ar5b95 generates 104 Error: incompatible wireless device detected

The intel wireless card failed in CQ61 - 425SA. So i ordered an Atheros AR5B95 that is listed as compatible here at the HP site and at the manufacturer's site.
Unfortunately, the machine won't boot with the card inserted, generating error message 104: Incompatible Wireless Device Detected.
I had a look at the BIOS but it's up to date (F.23) and there appears to be no place in the setup menu where I can indicate a different wireless card. I tried installing new drivers but, of course, if the machine won't book I can't install the drivers for the card.
The card is imprinted with the AR5B95 identity and Atheros branding, so I presume it's genuine.
Any  help would be greatly appreciated.

hp implement whitelisting of wifi cards in BIOS, your original intel would of had hp part number that matched with allowed numbers in the BIOS thus boot without 104 error > your current atheros is a generic atheros card & the BIOS sees no matching part number so flags 104 error.
You have 2 choices, 1: buy a correct hp branded card that is supported by your BIOS , 2: install a no whitelist BIOS so you can use any wireless card .
No whitelist bios link below >
    http://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/index.php?dir=Whitelists%2F&download=sp51527_NWL_EISTUlk_MoreOptions_B...
You may need tape pin 20 on the atheros card with some scotch tape & use windows 7 mobility centre to toggle wifi on/off

  • No Wireless device when maverick install failed.  how can I get my wireless back?

I walked away as Maverick download started.  When I returned, it was at the login screen.
After logging in, I was still at 10.8.5 and the wireless device was gone.
How should I proceed.  I have wired access still.
    rich

    Ari,
    Thanks for your time.
Later on the 27th, I connected the MacBook to a wired Internet line and finished the Maverick installation.  The wireless was still listed as "no device found".  I tried holding down the D key on cold boot, to get hardware diagnostics, but I never saw a message saying where the results were stored.
Tonight, when I got home, I turned on the MacBook and my wireless device has awaken from its two day slumber and it is working again.  I will try to get some info from the system logs, but right now, the revival has no explanation.

  • Daisy Chaining Wireless Devices

My kids have gaming counsels across the room from where my wireless router is located.  I can't run wires across the room and do not want to use extra wireless devices for each game counsel.
Is it possible to have two wireless routers....one with DHCP turned on and hard wired to the internet and then use a 2nd wireless router with DHCP turned off a pseudo wireless hub..plug my games into the 2nd router (acting as a wireless hub).
Your sage advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes it can be done by using a DD-WRT firmware. As the DD-WRT firmware has feature to make your Router work with the other wirelessly. So in these you can to upgrade the firmware of the 2nd Router using a DD-WRT firmware. Make sure your Select the right version number of your router and download the DD-WRT firmware on your Router.
Once you upgrade using the DD-WRT . You need to reset your router and re-configure all the settings.
But if you upgrade the DD-WRT firmware on your Router, these will void the warranty on your Router.

  • Wireless Acess Point not transmitting to wireless devices

I had to move my WAP to another location about 200ft from the Gateway (NVG589). After the move the STB/TV connected properly and works fine. This WAP is connected by an in-ground CAT5 cable directly to the Gateway. I also connected another wireless STB directly to the gateway with CAT5, and the Wireless STB/TV connected to it also works correctly.
However, now my wireless devices (iPad, iPod, etc) do not connect to the WAP. As long as I'm relatively close to the gateway, my network is available and the wireless devices work fine. However, they do not even show the network when near the WAP.
I had planned on placing a second router (in WAP mode) near the gateway to strengthen the signal in the house' but wanted to make sure this worked first. (It didn't) Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Install your second router to where you placed the WAP for wifi signal in that area. Relocate the WAP close to your wireless set top boxes. If your set top boxes are close to an ethernet connection, you could disconnect the WAP altogether since it won't be needed.

  • My Windows XP AirPort util and Bonjour can't find any wireless device

I have both macbook and a PC laptop.
I just started using my TimeCapsula and all features (Internet gateway, access to the USB printer and the external harddisk) are visible and working fine when using my macbook.
My PC wireless card seems to be working fine too and I can access the Internet using the Airport gateway.
My problem is that Airport Util and Bonjour on my PC "can't find any wireless devices" (even though It is clearly working fine) and therefore don't detect/mount the external drive or the Printer.
    Thanks!

How do your Extreme and Express connect to one another? Wired Ethernet between the two, or wirelessly?
Try unplugging the Express. Does that change anything?
Wireless interference could cause the symptoms you're describing. Even though you did nothing to your wireless network, the presence of other wireless networks or introduction of nearby devices will bring interference where there was none before.
AirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of interference for wireless devices and networks
Try changing wireless channels; use "automatic" unless you have reason to use a specified channel. Try checking "interference robustness". Altering these settings may help, but they could make things worse.
If you are unable to configure a device over Airport, or changing a setting leaves you unable to configure it wirelessly, connect its Ethernet port to your computer's Ethernet port and Airport Utility should find it.
As a last resort, try a "hard reset" followed by re-configuring the Extreme, Express, or both. Start by removing your Express from the network. Re-configure the Extreme and see if that fixes things. If it does, add the Express to your network and re-configure it as well.
    AirPort troubleshooting guide
I open airport utility ... can not locate any of my wireless devises, airport extreme base,, airport express, apple tv, wifi printer.
AirPort Utility will only detect Apple AirPort base stations (Extreme, Express, Time Capsule) for purposes of configuring them. It is not designed to detect or configure other wireless devices like your printer.

  • Question re: multiple wireless devices and the Duel Band Airport Extreme

I recently purchased the new duel-band Airport Extreme. Prior to that I had the single band Airport Extreme. I’m a bit confused about how it works and have spent a good bit of time trying to find the answers on the web, but nothing really addresses my specific question so I’m coming to the experts.
I have a number of wireless devices throughout my house… a couple of Roku boxes, two iPads, two iPods running Pandora, a MacBook and an older model Apple TV etc.
Both of the iPods are 802.11 G. The iPads can handle N.
One Roku is 802.11 G and the other can handle N.
I am confused about configuring the Airport Extreme. It’s my understanding that if I just go with the basic setup of creating a network and selecting Automatic for the Radio Mode and Channel that all of my devices will automatically connect to the most appropriate band for the best throughput for that particular device.
I have tried configuring the Airport Extreme as I mentioned above, as well as setting it up with the 5GHz Network Name field selected. I gave this a different name so I would be able to distinguish between the two networks when selecting one on my iPad. I will refer to the fist configuration as Setup A and the second (naming the 5 GHZ Network ) as Setup B.
When I use Setup A all of my devices show one available network to connect to. I select that network and all is well.
When I use Setup B the devices show two available networks, the original and the one I named on the 5GHz Network Name Filed.
My iPod’s ( 802.11 G ) only display the name of the first network, but my iPad’s show both, and I can select either. The signal strength on the 5GHz channel only dislplays two bars on the signal strength indicator icon, but the other network is full bars.
When I use Setup A, is my iPad, Roku and MacBook automatically selecting the 5GHz AND the N connection? How do I know that it’s not using the G band? Is it best to just go with the automatic settings and trust that I’m getting the best connections? How does it know weather to connect to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. What determines that ?
Sorry for the rambling questions but the more I think about it the more confused I get about all of the possible combinations of connectivity possibilities.
I appreciate any attempts at making this a “teachable moment” for me :- )
    Thanks !

    Welcome to the discussion area!
The signal strength on the 5GHz channel only dislplays two bars on the signal strength indicator icon, but the other network is full bars.
Not surprising, because the much higher frequency 5 GHz signals are absorbed much more quickly by any obstructions than 2.4 GHz signals. Everything is a trade off. In return for higher speeds, you must give up distance capability and penetration power with 5 GHz. It's not exactly true that you have to have a line-of-sight arrangement between the router and computer with 5 GHz, but many users are finding that to be the case for good, reliable performance.
How does it know weather to connect to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. What determines that ?
The signal strength. If your computer is capable of connecting at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, it will choose the band with the higher signal strength...assuming that both bands have the same network name. The only way you can "force" a device to connect to the 5 GHz band is set it up with a different name and point your computer to that specific network.
For most users, the way to go is setup both bands with the same wireless network name and let devices connect to the strongest signal automatically.

  • How do I setup my MacBook Pro (2009) as a wireless access point for all my wireless device to access the Internet using a USB wireless adapter?

I connect to the Internet with a USB Super Antenna from CCrane.
I want to establish a network on my Mac to allow my other wireless devices to use the USB connection at the USB.
    Any ideas?

Yes, that would work, however it would cost me $2000 for the monitors.
