Where is Menu Launch : Application in LV 2009?

I want to get to the app instance for Tool's Menu VIs (its name is NI.LV.Dialog). In LV 2013, the property node is App.Menu LaunchApp. However, I cant find it in LV 2009. Does anyone know where it is or what is the workaround?
I tried to revert a LV 2013 VI that contains this property node back to LV 2009. However, it generates an error 42 (generic error).
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You don't see the property in 2009 because it was defined as private. As you can see, you can save back and use it.
It returns an error 42 presumably because you're running the VI yourself instead of launching it from a menu. If you put it in a VI which is launched from a menu it should work properly. You can see one such example in the Code Capture Tool, which is launched from the Tools menu and uses this to get a reference to the VI you opened it from.
Try to take over the world!

• What launch application do I choose to upgrade to os maverick

I have an Imac with os x 10.6.8 I am wanting to upgrade to maverick, but it is asking for a launch application? What am I supposed to select?

Since you seen not to know too much about upgrading software and knowing where to do this,
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I would strongly advise having, at least 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space
Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUoMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest version of Mavericks by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password.
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing OS X 10.9 Mavericks from the Mac App Store.
Good Luck!

• Unexplained Delay Launching Applications (two related questions)

I apologize at the outset for the length of this message.  I've added the information accumulated after trying several Window XP forums.
1) I'm getting a 30-60s delay launching almost any program (from Command Prompt, Notepad, through any Office 2007 application), but only the FIRST time that particular program is launched during a given "session."  (Here "session" seems to mean any extended period of inactivity, not generally a reboot or logoff/logon.)  The Windows Task Manager shows CPU usage is 99% by System Idle Process during this delay (but I can't do much else while I wait), so I have no idea what's causing the holdup.  After the machine gets "warmed up," however, there are no delays of any sort.  Any suggestions to track down the problem?
Possibly relevant details:  Lenovo T61 (Core2 Duo), vintage June 2008, running Windows XP Professional SP2 -- factory-supplied downgrade option from Vista,  (This is a problem that I noticed shortly after the downgrade, not a "new" problem appearing on an older installation.)  All other current Windows security updates (plus Windows Search 4.0 but minus SP3, which Lenovo warns against, and minus IE 8, which is too new for my taste) have been applied.  A bunch (but far less than half) of the Lenovo preloaded software has been uninstalled.  The only security software is ZoneAlarm Security Suite 8.0.298.035.  (Yes, I did a clean uninstall of Norton before anything else.  I use ZASS "Internet Lock" a lot, and one of the many manifestations of this problem is a long-delayed response to right-clicking on the locked ZASS icon in the system tray.  Nevertheless, I did try a clean uninstall/re-install of ZASS with only a temporary improvement.  Further, the problem does not arise every time I use Internet Lock.)  Various other "tweaks" that don't seem immediately relevant have been applied, of course.
I have another very similar installation of XP (SP3 this time), and ZASS on an older Dell laptop -- all of the same tweaks have been applied, as near as I can tell (but no Lenovo add-ons, of course) -- which shows no such problem.  This is why I suspect some interaction with Lenovo software (in addition to the fact that there is so much of it).
The precise phenomenology of the problem is difficult to ascertain, but it seems to occur primarily after Power Options has turned the screen off for an extended period of time.  (It's not allowed to go to sleep or hibernate automatically while plugged in.)  In any case, it doesn't only happen after a reboot.  What continues to puzzle me most is that there's no indication in Task Manager of anything going on at all.
An apparently reasonable suggestion was made that I was seeing unusually long virus scans on first launch of programs, but this doesn't seem to explain the delays:  They don't usually happen immediately after a reboot, and there's no CPU hog showing up in Task Manager when this happens.
2) I would be most grateful for any information about which of the ThinkVantage applications is really essential for this machine (or is potentially problematic), since I would really like to get rid of more of them, thus (I hope) resolving my problem.  For example, I assume I would want to keep "Active Protection System," but I use an image-backup system so I don't really need "Rescue and Recovery."  Nor do I need the pre-installed multi-media suite -- apparently by Sonic, which also installs a very annoying "InstallShield" update manager that I cannot figure out how to disable -- especially since I prefer CDBurnerXP and Windows Media Player.  It seems that a lot of this Lenovo stuff is loaded on startup, thus consuming resources and a potential source of my problem.  Before I embark on a whole-sale un-installation of ThinkVantage software, however, I'd like to know more about what's relevant and how to restore individual packages if I find I need them.
To take one example, the Lenovo overlay of Windows Power Manager appears to have significant additional features (e.g., CPU speed control and smart battery-charging modes), but I can't tell whether they really do anything with the given hardware or whether their benefits might be worth having the software running constantly.
Below is a list of stuff that's set to run on startup -- most of it left over from the original Lenovo Thinkpad setup -- that I didn't dare uninstall without more knowledge.  (I checked all the potential startup sources that I know of, and the rest are empty, including win.ini/load=.  Windows Search says it's finished indexing.)  I could also send a table of running services (long!) if anyone really wants to see it...

Solved!
Go to Solution.

jcw2, nothing to worry about
Most of these have are listed in the processes beacuse they are in the system startup(you mentioned it yourself).You explained in your post that you were willing to replace sonic record now.removing these from the startup donnot mean that they are "un-installed" from the system.It will only help you in increasing your boot time to your desktop.I only recommended removing these from the startup items only!
Removing any thinkvantage utility program is at your own discretion,it depends on what you want to use and what you dont.If you have observed my post correctly i have not mentioned anywhere about removing thinkvantage utilities from startup, I am not aware of thinkvantage utilites on a thinkpad.
now let me explain why i suggested you to remove them only from  startup
     1.adobe synchronizer
The Adobe Synchronizer is a networking agent that is used to build disconnection tolerant applications. The Synchronizer provides a local copy of data on a server so that applications can utilize it regardless of network connectivity. As data changes on the server, Synchronizer updates the local copy and as the user publishes changes made locally, Synchronizer makes the modifications to the server
2.adobe speed launcher
The Speed Launcher runs automatically when your computer starts. The Speed Launcher is not required in order to use Acrobat  or Adobe Reader . However, if you disable the Speed Launcher you may notice an increase in start time when you run Acrobat  Acrobat 3D or Adobe Reader
3.Soundmax
only removes the system tray icon of analogdevices(soundmax digital audio)
4. jusched.exe:
A background process of sun microsystems  which checks for java updates.It uses  an active internet connection as well in the background.you will not require this program unless you are using java based applications or the java runtime environment(if you want to update java you can go to control panel options an update it from there)
5. DLACTRLW.EXE:
     What does DLACTRLW.EXE do?The Drive Letter Access component allows you to drag and drop files directly to the CD-R or DVD-R drive on your computer, just as you would to any other folder. It writes the files onto the CD as you copy them, taking a lot of the complication out of burning CD or DVD discs with Windows.
     Is it necessary?Only if you actively use the feature. If you burn CDs and DVDs in a traditional way, such as starting up the CD-writer application and choosing files from there, then you can safely disable this program from running at startup.
     I donot know what utilites  you tend to use from the thinkvantage menu so cant answer regarding those processes.
     Hope my info helps you

• Is there a way to stop the launching applications to come to foreground?

Is there a way to stop the launching applications to come to foreground?
Back with os 10.3 Panther or 10.4 Tiger the apps opened in the background. That was one of the good differences with Windows. I guess that 10.5 Leopard adopted this annoying Windows behavior. Hope it's gonna change with 10.7 Lion.
(Of course I am looking for another solution than the AppleScript/Terminal launch that can be found on Google. I'd rather have a plist option to change if it exists!)

I have found this page http://www.realsoftware.com/listarchives/realbasic-nug/2009-03/msg01167.html where it is proposed to add :
<key>LSBackgroundOnly</key>
<string>True</string>
to MyApp.app/Contents/Info.plist
I tried this but the app launches totally hidden in the background. Plus you have to set this behavior for every app.
The open -g option works fine as expected.
Still looking for a system-wide option, but it doesn't seem to exist.
About the utility of such an option, I'll just remember you that some machine don't load apps very fast and, instead of waiting for an app to launch, the user will do something else until the app launches. You'll understand that waiting in front of a computer isn't acceptable and having a MBPro isn't possible for everyone.

• SGD - Fails to launch applications

We are having a problem with SGD - we can not launch applications.
We have SGD 4.2 running on a Solaris 10 server.
We had SGD up and running good. However, we had several things occur and now it does not work. First we had to relocate our server due to building renovations. Then shortly after setting up the system in the new location, we had a hard drive fail. And unfortunately the sys admin guys did not have a good/current backup of the drive. We did however reload a backup that was about 9-months old. However it does not work correctly now.
We can bring up the main SGD web page, can login to the system, and see the applications and function set up in object manager. However when we try to launch an application it fails.
Looking in the error.log file we see a message "failed to open display"
However we can not see how SGD sets the display to enable the application to be viewed over the web connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

It is a good thing to have as much help as possible. One of the other SAs working on the problem entered his google search a little different and came up with this hit: (http://blogs.sun.com/malhar/entry/sun_secure_global_desktop_tarantella -- text below) that fixed our problem. Thought I would post it here for the next person who runs into the same problem.
Sun Secure Global Desktop (Tarantella) "DISPLAY variable not set" error message?
If you've been facing a problem with the erstwhile Tarantella, now Sun Secure Global Desktop (SGD), where you get don't see X applications opening up when you click the link, you're in luck.
I have the solution.
If you are fast enough to click on the "Show Details" button before the application loading window opens and then closes, you will see in the logs that the application cannot open because it finds that the DISPLAY variable is not set.
Also, if you read the documentation, you will see that the admin guide explicitly asks you to NOT set the DISPLAY variable which gets set automatically. So where's the problem?
What you need to do is this:
1. Open the /etc/rc.d/init.d/Tarantella script in your favourite text editor
2. Look for TTASSHCLIENT (this is usually commented out)
You will notice that the line will look something like this
#TTASSHCLIENT="";export TTASSHCLIENT
3. Uncomment the line
4. Add /usr/bin/ssh -X inside the quotes on the line to make the line look like this
TTASSHCLIENT="/usr/bin/ssh -X";export TTASSHCLIENT
And restart!
That's it. You're problem is solved. I accept your thank yous in advance

• Launch Application empty...

Hi,
Running Arch Linux 64bit on Acer 8930G 2.27GHz, 4GB DDR2, 160GBSATA and Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT 512MB using KDE 4.8 desktop environment.
When I clicked on a hyperlink via an email mesage the Launch Application popped up and it is empty.
Is that a bug? How do I fix it?

Clicked a hyperlink from what? What kind of hyperlink was it? HTTP, magnet (a la TPB)?
PS: 37 views because "Launch Application empty..." sounds like dyslexia. Some of them could've been caused by you, like for example refreshing the page a few times.
You shouldn't expect help. Not immediate help, anyway. We're all volunteers here. And Arch is a DIY kind of distribution, where users are encouraged to solve their own problems. It's why you see so many solved topics coming from the Arch forums. It implies a certain mindset.

• Can't launch application - 10810

After restarting all applications will launch, but after several minutes - when I try to launch a new application, I get the message "Can't launch application XYZ - 10810"
If I restart, then, again, any application will launch.

See if this helps:
The following have been suggested as possible solutions:
1. If you're using 10.3, you need to get rid of the following:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.6B.csstore
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
(where '~' means your Home directory, i.e. '/Users/yourname')
2. If you have Virex or other virus software installed, try uninstalling it. Be sure to use uninstallers that come with the software because simply deleting the application does not fully uninstall most virus software.
After deleting the referenced files above you will want to do a restart. Then use Disk Utility in your Utilities folder to repair permissions.

• Upgraded to Lion - where are the Library & Application Support folders ?

Where are the Library & Application Support folders that were available in Leopard 10.5.8 ?

They're in the same location as before, but you need to use a method such as choosing Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and providing ~/Library/Application Support/ as the path.

• Cannot launch applications sometimes

Hi there,
I've got a knarly issue here. After a certain period of time (a couple of days for instance given that I leave the machine switched on) I cannot log into my computer via the screen saver password prompt (I just get the spinning ball, no login dialog displays). Additonally, at this time, I cannot ssh to the machine (whereupon I normally can). Finally, I have been doing something on the machine (using various applications) and then find myself unable to launch any other application via the dock (bouncing icon eventually times out). The latter problem has happened twice. In this instance I can still activate applications that are already running (they come to the front etc.). Additionally logging out in this instance is a problem and I have to force-quit things to get through the logout (including the Finder). Finally when it gets to actually logging out, I don't get the dialog to login again (just the clock style progress indicator with the bars which goes on forever).
Very mysterious. I've a suspicion that the above problems are related.
I have done a couple of things to this machine that may be relevant: increased the RAM; and (ii) updated the Pioneer DVR-110D firmware (this was a third party drive that I bought given that the original drive stopped working).
I have run memtest on the memory with several passes. Everything reports ok. I realise that memtest won't necessarily report all faults, but I know that if it does report a fault, there's definitely a fault. I want to get my hands on the Apple Hardware Profiler to do another test - anyone know how to get it?
Most importantly can anyone explain any of the symptoms I'm seeing? The machine is obviously still alive given the spinning ball when trying to wake up from sleep in the screen saver, and activation of existing application.
Any clues and diagnostic ideas are greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
-C

re: SSH. I presume you've enabled Remote Login on the
affected Mac? Remote Login has to be enabled before
the problem occurs if you are to SSH into a
frozen/hung Mac. However, depending on the problem,
the affected Mac may be so frozen or hung that you
simply can't get in via SSH.
I can normally log on to the machine using SSH. In fact, at one time, I established an SSH connection and then the problem occurred subsequently. My SSH connection, having already been established, allowed me to look around the machine.
In lieu of the AHT, and as noted in my AHT FAQ, you
can use Micromat
TechTool Pro 4 for hardware testing. You want to
use version 4.0.4 or later with Tiger, but it is best
to use the latest version, which is 4.1.2. You'll
want the CD so you can boot from it to run the
hardware tests.
I will look into this software now.
Another small update: given that the machine went weird again yesterday I managed to mount a volume via AppleShare and have a look in /var/logs. However I didn't see anything really out of the ordinary. Given that these logs get archived on reboot, any ideas on something that I might look for?
Once again the symptoms are that: I cannot su to any other account (whereas I normally can); and (ii) I cannot launch applications (also whereas I normally can of course). Apps are launched via the Finder Dock. I'm suspection that (ii) is caused by . The fact that I cannot su to any other user is most weird.
The machine is now running without the non-Apple memory, Activity Monitor is running and I've disabled passwords being required to wake the computer up. Thus if it does go down again I should be able to do some more diagnosis.

• Why would Launch Application fail?

I've created a workflow to launch a series of related apps. For some reason, one of these (OmniFocus.app) is generating an error message. All the rest work fine.
I created a new workflow with just that one command in it, and it still won't work. How can I debug this problem? I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The message is:
*The action "Launch Application" encountered an error.*
Check the actions' properties and try running the workflow again.
No other app seems to make this happen.
And the Applescript command you suggested works perfectly.

• Launching applications from java code

I have found a solution to launch applications from java.I thought this will be useful for programmers who want to open a
1. Browser
2. Player
3. Files etc.
There are 2 solutions :
I)To use a known application :
eg: to open windows media player
String[] cmd = new String[3];
cmd[0] = "cmd.exe";

To post code, use the code tags --
Your Code
will display asYour CodeOr use the code button above the editing area and paste your code between the {code}{code} tags it generates.
And make up your mind what file type you're having a problem with. Maybe .asx doesn't have a file association on your computer.
This works just fine for .m3u:import java.awt.Desktop;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
public class Playlist {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          try {
             Desktop.getDesktop().
                   open(new File("E:/Music/Playlists/test.m3u"));
          } catch (IOException ex) {
             ex.printStackTrace();
}db
