Where is my Bonjour?

I have looked until my *** has fallen off (last 9.25 hours) and I can't find Bonjour in my wife's computer? We want to iChat w/our daughter using Bonjour which I am assured by several tech support folks can happen. Anyone kow where I can download Bonjour and iChat or do I have to re-install the app bundle?? This crap w/AppleMac is wearing me out! I'm obviously very frustrated w/this and find the 'support' received cool for a computer geek which I ain't so I don't understand most, if not all, of the advice. Seems like most people involved with computers have forgotten the plain old English language.

You sound as un-tech as I am, so I feel compelled to try again. Both you and your daughter have to do this on your own computers: Go to Safari and type in aim.com in the Q search area on the top right of the page. When the aim page comes up, the first entry will say Instant Messenger AIM. It has a list of choices under. Click on Macintosh. That takes you to a page that has you download AIM for Mac and sign up for a screen name. (I didn't go any further to get you directions since I already have it, but you will need to give an email address to get a screen name). You will put your daughter's screen name in your address book in your dock and she will do yours in hers. The address book will actually ask for AIM info when you fill in her information. Once that is done, click on the ichat icon in the dock. When the Buddy List is up, click on the + sign in the bottom left corner. That will bring up your address book. Scroll down to your daughter's name, highlight it and at the bottom click the blue "select buddy". Both of you have to do it with each other's information. (You can also do this from the top when ichat is open - buddies is a choice and you could add from there, but I don't want to confuse you). Once all this is done, both of you can bring up your buddy list - her name should be lit up (not gray, or that means she doesn't have it on/open) and you would click on her name in the buddy list, then click the camera at the bottom of the buddy list square and HOPEFULLY you can video chat. If you are the one to start the contact she will have a place to click to accept your video invitation. I really hope this helps. It's a lot of fun. Besides ichatting with friends that have macs, I ichat with someone who has a PC so we have to use a different program and the connection is delayed, digitized and just not clear. With mac, ichat is like sitting in the same room.

Are you looking for Bonjour Print Services, or the version of Bonjour needed for iTunes (or one of the other Apple applications)?

  • HT2703 Where to download Bonjour for Windows?

In an attempt to end the many Bonjour errors I'm getting on my Windows 7 PC I followed Apple's instructions to uninstall & reinstall.  But now I can't find where to download the s/w.  All I can find is Bonjour Print Services for Windows.  That's not what it was called on my PC & the s/w I uninstalled was at release 3, not 2 which is what Print Services is at.  Thanks for any help.

As far as I know it is part of itunes.

  • HT1923 when right-clicking C/Program Files (x86) Bonjour, it say the folder or a file in it is open in another program.  How do I overcome this?

am trying to uninstall all components of itunes, according to the apple support guidelines, as itunes was not recognising my iphone, although windows was recognising it.  I am going through all the steps accordingly, but there isn't a note about what to do if this happens.  Where else could Bonjour be open so that I can close it?
    Thanks!

Handle is a tool that can help you to find out which program has a particular file or directory open. The tool is available here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896655.aspx
    I hope this helps.
    -a
Dump information about all types of handles, not just those that refer to files. Other types include ports, Registry keys, synchronization primitives, threads, and processes.
    -c
Closes the specified handle (interpreted as a hexadecimal number). You must specify the process by its PID.
WARNING: Closing handles can cause application or system instability.
    -l
Dump the sizes of pagefile-backed sections.
    -y
Don't prompt for close handle confirmation.
    -s
Print count of each type of handle open.
    -u
Show the owning user name when searching for handles.
    -p
Instead of examining all the handles in the system, this parameter narrows Handle's scan to those processes that begin with the name process. Thus:
    handle -p exp
would dump the open files for all processes that start with "exp", which would include Explorer.
    name
This parameter is present so that you can direct Handle to search for references to an object with a particular name.
For example, if you wanted to know which process (if any) has "c:\windows\system32" open you could type:
    handle windows\system
The name match is case-insensitive and the fragment specified can be anywhere in the paths you are interested in.

  • Bonjour for windows

I have a shared printer on my Mac and I want to share that printer with my windows machine. Can you tell me where to find Bonjour for windows?

    This should help: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows103.html

  • Bonjour says adiós in printer setup

We recently added two HP3600 printers to our network. All of my users running 10.3.9 can access the printer with Rendevouz (now Bonjour). I was attempting to setup the printer on a computer running 10.4.9 when I noticed there is no option for Bonjour when I go to "More Printers" while in Printer Setup. I have only have three options at the top of the drop down menu where the Rendevous/Bonjour option previously appeared: Appletalk, Bluetooth and Windows Printing. What happened to Bonjour!?!?
I've checked all the computers running 10.4.x and none of them have the Bonjour option in Printer Setup. I can see the printers in Safari when I go to the Bonjour bookmark so it appears the protocol is still visible to the OS.
I can use IP printing to connect to the printer but I'd like to find out what happened to my missing Bonjour option. I've Repaired Permissions, run Disk Warrior and even re-applied the 10.4.9 update. No luck.
Anyone have an answer as to why Bonjour has decided to say Adiós in the "More Printers" dialog?
    Intel and G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Greg Sahli you're my Hero.
Thanks for the reply. We're on Active Directory so I was getting a HUGE list of network printers in the initial Printer Setup screen. Scrolled down about 20 feet and there were my new printers. Thanks for the"Option-Click" tip on the "More Printers" option. I hope I can recall that one one day when I need it.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • ARD: Deploying Bonjour Printing Prefs to multiple clients

I have had great success in pushing out printing preferences to multiple computers in our school labs. Now, there are some new HP printers that do not utilize the IP printing, but use MDS. Is there a way to push out the Bonjour printer setting with ARD to multiple computers in a lab setting rather than going to each computer and setting up the Bonjour printing preferences? Where is the Bonjour printing preferences located? Thanks for your help and time.

I wonder if someone out there could try to duplicate this problem and let me know if its just me. Just setup a printer with multiple trays and share it on a leopard machine with the appropriate drivers for that printer. Then setup a client to print to it using IPP or LPR. Print a test page from text edit and select a non-default tray to print to from the paper feed selection.
Another test would be to use generic drivers when setting up the printer to be shared. The result that i got was that it went to the right tray but the job was flipped to landscape.

  • HP laserjet P1100 wireless connection for mac

Hoping for a quick response.... I have a Mac with 10.8.5 and I have purchased an HP Laserjet P1100 wireless printer. I have tried installing the drivers to print wireless...ly with no success. I have taken time out to type this message because I have not been able to find someone who has had  the same issue in the internet. I need a walk thru because there are many steps where the issue may be occuring. Your written installation documentation conflicts with your User Guide PDF file. Cord or no cord during driver installation for wireless connection???  Was lost after #5 page 18 on the User Guide PDF file.
I figured it out. Your directions are misleading and not up to date. Cord is not an issue but needed for entire install process. At one point I'm in my system prefs then I'm on my web browser where I  found Bonjour which added the network to my printer choices so now I can print wirelessly... hopefully I don't have to do that again because I'm not sure of the steps I took. Fairly complex set up.

    Hey @matt4,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you have a Mac OS X 10.8.5 and a new HP Laserjet P1100 series printer and are looking for quick and easy wireless configuration steps. I just have one question for you:
    Do you have a P1100 or a P1102w?
    What's my Model Number?
I'm going to assume that you have a Laserjet P1102w. The steps for wireless configuration of a Laserjet P1102w are a bit confusing on Mac OS X 10.8 as you need to use the generic Apple Airprint driver because there is no 'Full Feature Software and Driver' installation for that Operating System. In saying that, I will try my best to give you easy steps to reference should you need to configure your printer again on the wireless network.
How to Connect the Printer to the Network:
Step 1: Install the Generic Mac Printer Driver:
    1. Turn your printer on
    2. Plug your USB cable from the printer directly into your Mac
    3. Click on the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences
    4. Click Print & Scan and make sure your printer is in the list of available devices.
    5. If your printer is not listed, click the plus () sign at the bottom left pane, click the name of your USB printer, and then click Add.
Step 2: Connect the Printer to the Wireless Network:
I've added the video above so you can view these step-by-step instructions.
Click the Apple icon (), and then click System Preferences.
    Click Print & Scan.
Click Open Print Queue, and then click Printer Setup.
Click the Utility tab, and then click Open Printer Utility.
    Click HTMLConfig.
Click the Networking tab, and then click Wireless from the list on the left.
Under Communication Mode, click Infrastructure, select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list, and then click the << button.
From the Security Mode pop-up menu under Authentication, click WEP or WPA/WPA2. Your selection depends on the wireless security protocol your network uses.
Note: If your network does not have wireless security, leave the Security Mode set to Open System (No Authentication).
Type your WEP/WPA/WPA2 key in the appropriate field, and then click Apply.
In the confirmation box, click OK, and then close the HTML Config and Print Queue windows.
Step 3: Delete the USB connected printer, and then add the wireless connected printer:
In the Print & Scan window under Printers, click your printer name, and then click the Minus sign () to remove it.
NOTE: This removes the USB connection from the list so that the only entry for your printer is the wireless connection.
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.
Under Printers, click the Plus sign ().
Select your printer name with Bonjour as the Kind, and then click Add
Once your printer is configured for Bonjour, if you have other Mac OS X computers that you want to use with this network printer you do not have to run all these steps again. You simply make sure that the other Mac computers are all connected to the same network that you have set your printer up on and just open Print & Scan. Under Printers click the  () plus sign and select your  printer name with Bonjour as the Kind, and then click Add.
You can reference all of this information in: Setting Up the Printer for a Wireless Network for the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer
Let me know if these steps help clear up any confusion for you. Good luck!

  • Itunes refuses to let ipod sync, says "Mobile Device Service is not started

So for some reason my iTunes refuses to sync. Itunes announces it that there is something wrong with syncing, something about "bonjour being disabled" and then it asks if I would like itunes to fix the problem. I hit yes. Itunes then "fixes" the problem, by ignoring that there is an ipod connected to the computer, and refuses to acknowledge the ipod's existence even if I run a diagnostic. I tried downloading bonjour for windows, thinking that might solve the issue, but no such luck, it tells me i already have bonjour for windows on my computer--god knows where it thinks bonjour is, since running find turns up nothing.
Anyone have a clue how to smack itunes upside the head and get it to start syncing again?

  • Issue with 3G after iOS 6.1 update

After updating to the ios 6.1, my iphone automatically switches from 3G to EDGE and stays that way till I manually re-register on the network. Is there any fix for this?

As per your query i can suggest you the following-
    1) Add the AirTunes service to the list of services available for mDNS snooping. To do this go to Controller-->mDNS--->general and select AirTunes from the dropdown.
Flexconnect (previously known as HREAP) does fix the bonjour mdns for remote branch offices and other vlan's where you want bonjour to be running.
You only have to flexconnect the wired and wireless WLAN SSID where you need it as the rest of the SSID's can be centrally switched WLAN"s and they work quite nicely.
    2) Add the AirTunes service to the appropriate mDNS profiles in your controller, in my case I just use the default profile. To do this go to Controller-->mDNS--->Profiles and add the Airtunes service to each profile you may have configured
The problem with AirPlay is that it depends exclusively on multicast DNS (shortened as mDNS) with DNS service discovery (DNS-SD) to operate. mDNS is a zero configuration protocol that relies on link-local multicast messages on the local LAN to publish DNS records without the need for a centralized DNS server. DNS-SD is a protocol that compliments mDNS and provides service discovery, too. Apple's implementation of mDNS/DNS-SD is called Bonjour.
Aerohive indicates that these Bonjour gateways can also filter mDNS messages, which sounds somewhat useful

  • RAW Print Queue in Leopard

All, wondered if anyone has come across this or possibly has a fix for it. Under OS 10.4 I have a Canon MP530 USB printer attached to an iMac where I use Bonjour for all the macs in the house to print to this printer. I also used CUPS to create a RAW print queue for the windows workstations in the house. Now, after wiping my system away and going to Leopard, I am having troubles creating a RAW print queue through CUPS to work with this printer for the windows workstations. Anyone come across this and have some recommendations? Appreciate it.

No answer, but in case misery like company, I'm having the exact same problem. The Leopard upgrade silently wiped out my raw print queue and there doesnt seem to be a way under the new CUPS to recreate it, at least not using the CUPS web app to do the config. The only options are to select a specific driver - no raw option as there used to be.

Try updating iTunes on your PC. Hopefully it'll re-install or fix the Bonjour issue.
