Presumably you mean the the Verizon hotspot wifi access?
It's a client that will only work on a laptop.  I could never find any vz hotspots so I uninstalled it.
There originally were lots of Verizon Wi-fi hotspot points at least in long time Verizon Cities.  In my own LI town there were dozens, now they, and most others, are gone.

Connection to  a free wifi source is made like any other - turn on wifi, let it find the SSID of the router, let it connect.
Chapter 14 of the User Guide covers wifi connections.  You can download it from the "Support" link at the top of the page, and navigate to the TouchPad section.

  • Iphone 4S - free wifi

My phone won't connect to the free wifi service at the hotel we are staying at (my husband's iphone connected fine & my computer too). It shows the Wifi signal at the top of the phone but won't go to the Hotel's website to accept the free Wifi's conditions, etc. The log in page is just blank.
I have turned the phone off then on again and also Reset network settings. In the Wifi section of the settings folder it shows a check mark beside the name of the hotel's wifi too.
I have Wifi at home and have used the phone at other free Wifi areas in the past (actually just an hour before at a Starbucks).
    Thanks.

After selecting the hotel's WiFi network, try launching Safari and going to a different web site.  Sometimes this will cause the hotel's login screen to appear.

  • Free Wifi - Terms of Service

At work they offer free wifi, when I arrive to work in the morning I accept the terms of service/conditions and have access to the wifi.  However when my phone goes dormant it loses the connection and keeps searching for a connection until I access my phone and have to accpet the terms of service again.  Why does this happen??  Why can't I just accept the terms when I arrive and my phone stay connected to the wifi?  My BF has an android and all he has to do is accept the terms once a day and he is connected.  It's very frustrating because if I don't turn my wifi off I lose a lot of battery power because my phone keeps searching for a connection.
Someone please answer this for me.
    Thanks,

iPhones, in order to conserve battery, drop WiFi connections when they go to sleep, unless the phone is plugged in. So, as long as you're in range of a WiFi network, turning off WiFi doesn't really save that much battery.

  • When buying iphone 5s/5c why is the price so cheap in with wifi service plan

eschmidt, we always want you to understand where each charge is coming from. I understand being a consumer myself how concerning it is when an unexpected charge shows up. • FREE WIFI AT CAMPING AND CARAVAN CLUB SITES

When I signed up for BT broadband one of the main attractions was that free wifi would be available to BT customers at C&C Club sites. So far I have tried recently to connect at four C&C club sites with no luck, the only way I could connect was by buying expensive vouchers. For instance if you search BT Hotspots for Dartmouth it says that the C&C Club site at Stoke Fleming is a BT Hotspot - I stayed there last week and the only way I could get Wifi there was to buy vouchers at £2 a day!!!

This is a recent press release from BT re C&CC Wifi
    Happy Campers to Get Wi-Fi!
BT Openzone will provide Wi-Fi access at major UK holiday and leisure parks including 77 Camping and Caravanning Club sites, three Pontin's sites plus locations at Coastfields Leisure sites in Skegness through a new partnership with Wicoms it announced today.
With more Brits opting for a 'staycation' this summer, the anticipated 50,000 visitors expected at the sites over the August bank holiday can surf, game or make cheap VoIP calls regardless of the weather. BT Openzone users can use any wireless-enabled device to connect to the service via the BT Openzone landing page.
Chris Bruce, general manager, BT Openzone said: "Having the option to get online and stay entertained will provide a useful 'plan B' if the weather does its worst, and being able to look up tourist information and hunt out local gems will make for a better trip."
The service is inclusive/at no extra cost for 4.8 million BT broadband customers with inclusive BT FON Wi-Fi minutes, BT Openzone subscribers, plus O2 iPhone and mobile broadband users with inclusive Wi-Fi minutes in their contracts. Other users can buy a BT Openzone voucher online at www.btopenzone.com, with access from as little as ½p per minute.
Simon Davies, chief technology officer, Wicoms, said: "Lots of Brits have stayed in the UK rather than head overseas this year. Families tell us that holiday sites are another location where they want to get online. Teenagers and gadget addicts are set to be heavy users."
BT is seeing huge demand for Wi-Fi in the leisure and hospitality sector. Customers can also connect at more than 400,000 residential and commercial hotspots in the UK and Ireland including BAA airports, BA lounges, Cafe Nero, Hilton, Thistle and Ramada Jarvis hotels and Starbucks coffee stores.

  • TS1398 After updating to ios 6 my iphone 4 would no longer connect to my home wifi. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password. However my wifi at home is password protected. I have the right password. It works on my ipod touc

After updating my iphone 4 with the ios 6 update. My iphone would no longer connect to my home wifi that is password protected. I know that I have the right password entered in. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password and I can connect no problem to it. My ipod touch has no problem connecting to my home wifi. It is a 3rd gen ipod and does not have the ios 6 update on it. Please help!

I'm having the same issues. Started when I upgraded iphone 4S and ipad1 to 5.1.1. Wife's iphone 4g on 4.4.2 has been ok. I've forgot the network on both devices and restored the iphone, none of which changed the issue. I've upgraded to ios 6 on the iphone 4s, problem still persists.
One thing that will help for a time: go to your router and change the wireless control channel. When I first did this I got full connectivity for about 48 hours... and now the problem is back. I'm now changing the wireless control channel every 12 hours, which is a pain but at least keeps me connected. I've tried a few other solutions that are out there and that has been the best one so far.
to do this on a motorola router: type 192.168.0.1 in your address bar.
username: admin and password:motorola if you have not changed the factory defaults.
Click on the word "wireless" and look for the "control channel" field. This may be set to auto or to 1, try changing it to 6 or 11 (preferred) or any other channel.
The control channel can cause static in the wireless system IF there are several networks nearby that are on the default setup.
There is a fair bit of buzz about this issue out there, some other things I've seen:
This is a hardware issue. Go to the store and have your wifi antenna checked, some users reporting that they get free replacement devices.
Check against other wifi networks that require a password (this is next for me). Logon to those networks and surf until your wifi stops. If your wifi connects to the internet but stops responding, then this is a software (or hardware) issue and apple needs to step up. Some are claiming this to be the case.
IF you connect and stay connected/on the internet on another password protected wifi, then the issue is with your router. this is where things get cute.
Comcast may tell you to update your firmware. Motorola may tell you that your cable provider is the only one who can push through firmware updates. Comcast may tell you that you are not in an area that is being updated. It's unclear if they say that to all customers, or just those who have purchased cable modems and aren't renting them from comcast.
Good luck, more to come if I figure out anything else, and please post any solutions you may find.

  • Trouble connecting to "free" wifi at local establishments

When hanging out at local establishments, I try to take advantage of "free" wifi whenever possible. However, while others in my group connect to the open wifi, it shows up on my phone as TKIP, or ESS secured. Nobody around deems to know what the password is because they are under the assumption that the wifi is open. Why does it show as a secured connection to me, rather than open. I have tried to type in the SSID based on what someone else had connected to, but it still asks me for a password. Not a major issue, but a PITA. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi andyrm. Taking advantage of WiFi hotspots is a great way to help conserve your data allowance for when you're out and about. Some local establishments may have a set limit of how many people can be connected to their open WiFi at a time. For others, a "free" WiFi still requires a password to connect for the first time. Make sure to double check with the manager at the establishment to see if there's a special password to take advantage of their bonus service.
Also, try scanning for the network and connecting http://bit.ly/PS3G0Z instead of manually adding the connection and SSID. As long as you've turned on your phone's WiFI and are within range of the Hotspot, your phone will list the network instead of needing to enter the SSID manually. If you've already attempted a connection previously and it's saved incorrect information into your WiFi list, tap on the network and choose "Forget" to remove the previously entered settings.
    Thank you

  • Do I have to pay for "free" wifi in Starbucks, etc?

I just got an iPod touch yesterday. I mainly plan to use it as a PDA device, but since it has wifi capabilities I wouldn't mind being able to check the internet or my Gmail messages now and then.
At home I have an iMac desktop and hence don't have wifi. (My cable modem connects to the computer via a wire) I live in an apartment building, but all the wifi connections my neighbors use were locked. So today I took it to a Starbucks, where I've heard you can get free internet access.
But it really didn't work. The weather and stock quotes and map all updated as I thought they would, but I couldn't sync my Gmail and I couldn't get off the main page of Safari. On Safari, it was asking me if I wanted to pay for usage of AT&T's wifi connection.
Is this how it works? You have to pay, even in Starbucks? I thought it was free? Or...am I doing something wrong? I'd love some help on this.
    Thanks and Happy New Year.

The Starbucks free WiFi is for iPhones, not iPods.
However for your iPod, when you register your Starbucks Card and use it at least once a month, you'll receive two consecutive hours a day of complimentary Wi-Fi, courtesy of AT&T.

  • Can Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11g Connect To Park's Free WiFi?

The RV resort where I'm staying has free WiFi for Internet connections. It shows up on my iBook's Airport list of possible networks in the menu bar, along with my own local network which is an older Airport Extreme Base Station (white dome 802.11g) which has my HP printer plugged into it via an ethernet cable.
However, when I am connected to the park's WiFi via the laptop's Airport network choices, I am NOT connected to my AEBS, and therefore cannot print to the printer wirelesslessly. Is there a way for the AEBS to make the connection to the park's WiFi so I can use both Internet and printer from my iBook G4 without having to switch from one network to use the other?

Is there a way for the AEBS to make the connection to the park's WiFi so I can use both Internet and printer from my iBook G4 without having to switch from one network to use the other?
Sorry, but no. You cannot connect your iBook's AirPort to more than one wireless network at a time. Since it will be highly unlikely that you will be able to create a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) between your RV resort's Wi-Fi and the 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), you won't be able to extend it to meet your needs.

  • Free WiFi at home and Coffee shops / Hotspots?

My wife is considering upgrading to the 8520 with Orange, we know that using the phone for surfing where there is no WiFi she will be eating in to her unlimited data (fair usage 250mb) using GSM/GPRS/EDGE
How ever if we are at home and like I said in a coffee shop that offers free WiFi would she be able to connect and surf to her hearts content via the WiFi without any charge? i.e. not using UMA.  I can't seem to find any solid confirmation with this on the 8520
    Thanks for looking,

    wi-fi is free.
as long as the wi-fi icon is white, opening the browser it appears as wi-fi at the top, then you are surfing via wi-fi and its free.

  • Making calls using WiFi service

  • FREE WiFi in Europe?

When I buy an iPhone and travel internationally, will I find a lot of free WiFi hotspots in Europe/United Kingdom (especially France, Italy, Germany, England, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark) as there are here in the US? Where are they...hotels, cafes, airports? Mostly in major cities like London, Paris?
What are the best sources for finding them? Thanks.

The short answer is no. In the UK at least (and Europe relative to the US) there are pitifully few free hot-spots. In the UK there are two major free hot-spot sources you could use, there are about 1200 McDonalds restaurants with free WiFi, and fourteen Apple Stores each of which provides free WiFi.
    See http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/pages/global/wifi.html
    and http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/storelist/
Another supposed source of hot-spot availability is http://www.jiwire.com/ but I found their lists to be woefully out of date.
If you had a UK O2 iPhone you would get included free WiFi access to 'The Cloud' group of WiFi hot-spots, and I suspect if you had a T-Mobile one in Germany then you would likewise get access to theirs. As however you are an American (Wearwolf) in Paris/London/Berlin, your AT&T package will not include accessing European commercial WiFi hot-spots.
While the WiFi coverage in the UK is good and covers airports, stations, Starbucks, etc., nearly all of them are charged for.

  • Free WiFi in Australia?

I'm traveling to Australia and am wondering if there is free WiFi access in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane? I've looked at http://www.wififreespot.com/ but I don't know if those sites really are free.
    thx, g

In the Sydney CBD, the most common public wifi hotspots are in Macdonalds and Starbucks. They are not free unfortunately - they are operated by Telstra, which is our largest telco - and location and pricing information for their service is at http://www.telstra.com.au/wirelesshotspots/index.htm
In rough terms for that service, say $A5 for 15 min; there's more details and options on that page anyway if you want to do some further research on it.
There might well be various local/individual free wifi venues (eg an individual pub, cafe or hotel which chooses to give free wifi to its patrons), but I don't know of any "chains" of them.
