Where is my iMessage

I have Mountain Lion and I can't find for the life of me iMessage on my MacBook Pro Retina. Is not on the dock, is not in the application folder and I can't find it through "Spotlight" Where is it or how do I get it?  Thanks in advance for your help.
~ Danny

If I'm not mistaken (and I have been in the past) you'd have to reinstall Mountain Lion to get Messages back. You could try something like Pacifist to try to install Messages only, but it's not for the feint of heart. If you purchased ML from the App Store, just download a fresh copy and install over your current copy - make sure that you have a backup first. Alternately, you could just hold down Command and R keys on boot and reinstall ML from the Recovery partition.
You must have deleted it somehow - getting Messages back is not going to be an easy chore.

  • Where did my imessages actually go?

I just got complaints from a few people that I was not responding to their texts, only to realize that my imessage's Send & Receive settings were set to my email, not my number. I did fix that, but it is important for me to know what texts I actually missed.
What does setting Send & Recieve to my email actually do? Where did those imessages go?
I'm new to iMessage so any insight would be helpful.

Before I fixed the Send & Recieve and changed it to my number, I was receiving some imessages, but not others. Friends told me that sometimes my texts even started as a whole new conversations.
When I went to fix Send & Recieve settings, it was set to my email address, but my number was still unchecked and grayed out. I had to sign out of imessage and sign back in for it to work. It is just odd that those texts (which friends' iphones confirmed as delivered) went off into cyberspace somewhere.

  • I need to know where to find imessage

I need to know where to find imessage

You are using OS X Lion, and iMessage requires OS X Mountain Lion, so you have to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
First, see if your computer is compatible > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs Then, open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, make a backup of your data with Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner.
When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade OS X. After upgrading, you will see that iChat has been replaced with Messages, so open it and you will be able to use iMessage on the Mac

  • I believe some how some way my iPhone or appleID has been hacked into.  My iPhone sent 3 iMessages out that I did not type or send - 2 while I was sleeping and one while I was in mid imessage conversation.  Please help if you know anything about this!

I believe that my iPhone or apple ID has been hacked into.  Three imessages were sent from my phone that I did not type or send - two while I was asleep at 1:15am and in the morning during an iMessage conversation.  These messages were to my boyfriend about my boss.  Apple and AT&T have been somewhat helpful but both are pointing fingers at the others saying they cannot track the message or see if my personal information has been compromised.  I feel extremely violated because this hacker knows who my boyfriend is and who my boss is and I just started this job two weeks ago!  I am about to go to the police because this person is trying to taint my good reputation and destroy my relationships at work and in my personal life.  Does anyone have any incite on how this could be done and is there any way to trace where those three iMessages were generated from??

No I have my own iPhone iPad and MacBook  so everything is set up on devices that are mine and as far as I know I never connected to anyone else's device and logged with my apple ID.  But are you saying it is possible for someone to have obtained my apple ID and send an iMessage from their device with my contact information so it looks like it came directly from me?  It's crazy I looked down at my iPhone and saw this message had just been sent that I did not type or send

  • How to find list of all iMessage devices

I have been an apple user for many years and recently had a disturbing occurrence.  I stopped receiving some of my texts messages for the past month or so and when I searched all of the devices in my household, I was shocked to find that my daughter's iPhone was receiving them because the senders were using iMessage (which I don't use).  I was able to repair that situation but my bigger question is whether I can find a list of all devices using my account info to log into iMessage and remove them so that I receive every text sent to my iPhone.

    Hi mitch236,
I see that you wish to control your iCloud account so that your iMessages and text messages only go to the devices that you desire. You will want to review the information in this article, which can show you where to find iMessage information on your devices and how to adjust your settings accordingly:

  • How can I change the preview in imessage on a mac, when notifing me?

how can I change the preview in imessage on a mac, when notifing me?
I want it not to preview, just to show me the name of the person sending me the message, not the name of the person sending the message and the message they wrote.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMessage. There's an iMessage Support Community where everybody uses iMessage. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Twitter and iMessage duplicate notifications

I have an issue where Twitter and iMessage both deliver the same notification. I can't find the culprit to just allow Twitter ios app to deliver the notification without iMessage giving me a duplicate notification of the exact same thing.
**To be clear, it is not the repeat option. The notifications are not repeating -- I'm getting duplicates of each notification - once from Twitter app, once from iMessage, both at the same time. Help!

This suggestion from someone else worked for me:
"Settings - Notifications - Messages - Show iMessage Alerts From:
Change from Everyone to My Contacts Only
Works because Twitter isn't in your contacts list, therefore you no longer get the double notification."

  • IMessage No texts from iPhones or iPads.

iMessage No texts from iPhones or iPads.  I have an 4s with no data plan since wifi is very available where I live. iMessage works fine through Wifi, both sending and getting texts and sends out my messages through SMS if there is no wifi. But it cannot get texts from iPhones or iPads through SMS. The other iPads and iPhones  automatically recognize my phone, its Apple ID and get the blue bubble. So they automatically  send  messages out via iMessage not SMS. When this happens I do not get the texts on my phone unless I amconnected to Wifi. So I will never get any messages sent by other iPhones  with Apple Id. I get messages from other phones but not iPhones. When I get into a wifi zone I get all the messages that were sent.
I have spoken to Apple twice and was told the only work around is to get a data plan.
I have tried turning off iMessage, no help, taken my email address off the message send and receive options, I have done a network reset and a reboot all to no avail. So as long as other iPhones get that blue bubble from my iPhone I will never get texts from them because they are sent out as data not SMS.
It seems that the iPhone cannot tell if other iPhones have a data connection available or not.
Anyone else had any experience with this situation?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply...this is what I was thinking but wanted to make sure

  • SMS and iMessage Continuity

When you use Continuity to receive SMS messages on your desktop Mac, you have to be on the same Wi-Fi network. This means you don't have to worry about your SMS or MMS popping up on a work Mac if you're at home, or a school iPad if you're at a restaurant, or anywhere else beyond your reach.
I love this feature! But the problem is that it doesn't work with iMessage. If someone sends me an old-fashioned SMS, then it appears on my iMac only if I'm nearby. But if someone sends me an iMessage it pops up on my iMac - at work - even if I'm at home, and this is really annoying.
    Am I missing something?
    Martin

    Hi,
Ever since Messages was in Beta during may to December 2012 it has had an element of "Sync" which is in fact "Display on All Devices".
The stated goal has always been to get to a point where SMS and iMessages could be seen on both types of Device (Mac and iOS).
As the app has changed on the Mac through Messages 7 in Mountain Lion and the ver 8 in Mavericks and the so  called ver 8 in Yosemite this has got closer during the various updates along the way.
Previous iChat versions have changed at Upgrades (OS X 10.8 to OS X 10.9 for instance) and sub version during update.
For Instance OS X 10.5.8 is the "end" of Leopard and at this point iChat is at version 4.0.9
This continues until we get to Mavericks.
There are at least three "builds" but all are still called version 8  (only error logs show you the difference)
In Yosemite the app still gets called Version 8 despite the Messages pane in the preferences completely  disappearing and the subsequent changes to the general section and the disappearance of the Format Menu. There are also changes to the way you are stuck with the Contacts app Pic and not an independent one in the app like before and the round Buddy pic s in Buddy lists and in the Chats with associated changes and removal of linked Menu items for such Displays in each (no more Name and Pics in Chats)
Have you tried Do Not Disturb in the Notifications (System Preferences) so that Alerts or Banners do not appear ?
The Setting in the General Section of the Preferences that says "When I Quit set the Status to Offline" does not work for the iMessages account which means the app will start up if iMessages are "heard"
This does seem to be different to the Mountain Lion and Mavericks versions.  However it does seem it stop the app launching but the DOCK displays the unread indicators.
I would take to unticking the "Enable this Account" box  if you need to leave the computer On.

  • Imessages gone

So last week I got an iMessage from my nephew and all was good. I have been using iMessaging for a few years now with no problems. Today I tapped the icon and it gave me an introductory screen, "Get Started". I've already started! What? So I sign in and ... no messages! What happened to all the messages that I had stored over the past five or so years that I have had this thing? Nothing there. Just a blank screen or create a message, those are my only options.
The other thing is that when I was hitting the iMessage icon to start, it would first pop up the message screen, with all my old interactions, for a fraction of a second before showing the "Get Started" screen. So they were all there a minute ago. Sign in and they are gone.
And, when I signed it, it asked which account I wanted to use, showing me @me.com, @icloud.com and @gmail.com
    What?
I don't even know. When I got it I signed up for whatever the default account was, not sure if it was icloud or me, so I don't even know. They all work to sign in though. But where are my iMessages?

Try restoring from backup since Messages are in the backup.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
Do not backup in present condition since it will overwrite the previous backup.
To help prevent the last backup from being overwritten and thus erasing the Messages from the last backup turn off autosyncing so that you have to overtly start a sync. To turn off go iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

  • IMessage, multiple devices and roaming

I discovered what I consider a bug through an almost-marital-spat: My wife is in another country with only her iPhone. Her iPad is still at home. I send her a bunch of text messages and of course, they're all sent through iMessage.
I can hear them arrive on the iPad, but soon realize that my wife never read those texts - which also explains the cross messages I get from her
So I figure there is nothing keeping track of where people are, iMessage sends out to all iOS devices but doesn't care if they all get the info.
    What is there to do?
Other than manually selecting "send as SMS". But for that "trick" you actually need to know that the person is not in the country they're supposed to be in.

    According to the iPhone Manual:
"Because iMessages are displayed on all of your iOS 5 devices logged in to the same account, you can start a conversation on one of your devices, then continue it on another device. iMessages are also encrypted. "

  • My children just got iPods touch. I registered them on my account so they can have acces to my I tunes Acc. Now they have all my list of contacts receive my messages have my music my pics, things that they don't want. How can I fix this.

My children just got iPods touch. I registered them on my account so they can have acces to my I tunes Acc. Now they have all my list of contacts receive my messages have my music my pics, also when they install an app like pandora they have all my stations, things that they don't want. How can I fix this.

As for iMessage, you do  Settings -> Messages (scroll down) -> where it says iMessage, turn the switch to off.
As for pictures, you do Settings -> iCloud -> Photo Stream -> My Photo Stream -> turn switch off.
As for apps, you do Settings -> iTunes & App Stores (scroll down alot) -> Music, Apps, Books are all swtiched off.
If you want to the delete the music, you go onto the music app and slide your finger from right to left on the song.

  • TS4009 how do i delete multiple messages in Mail

For a variety of reasons I have 8000+ messages in my icloud Mail inbox. Deleting them individually would take forever and even using the shift key to delete a block would be very time consumming because I can only see less than ten per page.
How can I speed up the deletion process eg is there anyway to do a serch for say all the Facebook messages, not just the ten which would show up on the page from a search, and then delete everyone?
Any suggestions very welcome - thanks

    Hi Nick,
Can I check we are all using the same language for the same items ?
In the File Menu of Messages is the Delete Conversation with the keystrokes of CMD + Backspace is listed.
If you highlight an individual IM in the Chat window side then whole conversation will be deleted after you confirm deletion.
There is no Menu item for removing individual IMs or iMessages from such a chat/conversations.
However, as I eventually understood Sig to be saying, you can highlight items in the chat window side and use the backspace (delete) key and remove those individual items from the chat/Conversations.
As Messages is iChat+ and has iMessages added to what iChat could do I refer to Buddy List connections as "IMs" for individual parts and "Chats" for the whole thing.
Whereas I say "iMessages" for individual parts and "Conversations" for the whole thing for the iMessages connections you have going on.
I stated this in my original reply
In an open Conversation or Chat  individual IMs or Messages  also cannot be selected to be deleted.
Highlighting one message and then using CMD + Backspace will produce the Pop up to delete the whole Conversation/Chat.
As I have posted to Sig I made the mistake of using the File Menu keystroke for deleting a Conversation/Chat  when trying to delete individual IMs/iMessages and informed you incorrectly about this.
I apologise for any confusion this has caused.
