Try resetting the cable modem (usually unplugging for about 30 seconds).
Try defining new DNS servers in your Network preferences. I recommend OpenDNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220).
Also in Network preferences, I am assuming you are using DHCP so set that in Configure IPv4. In the Advanced settings, for TCP/IP, click Renew DHCP Lease.
If none of this works Network preferences also has an Assist me... button at the bottom. Click it, then click Diagnostics. Or you could click Assistant to help with a complete setup.

That specific error has to do with Movie Rentals.
From "iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting:"
This alert is related to iTunes Store movie rentals and authorization issues.
Make sure you are using the most recent version of iTunes and QuickTime. They both can be downloaded free of charge.
If your iTunes is up to date, remove the SC Info folder.
As the article says above, if you continue to have issues then refer to "iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases" for instructions on how to remove the "SC Info" folder.

Internet stopped working and now can't get reconnected - dns issue?

Internet had been working fine until 4 weeks ago, when it cut out and has not worked since. After an excessive amount of time spent on the phone to Optus (so-called) techs, receiving a new cable modem, the internet still does not work. It is receiving all relevant info but when you open Safari it says there is no internet connection. Can someone please advise. I am thinking that I will have to reinstall the system, but would appreciate any suggestions before doing so. This is my elderly parents' Mac, so they are finding talking to techs very difficult and confusing.

Sounds like a bogus pop up. In any case power down your Mac, your modem, your router. Then power back up in 1 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

I'm assuming you mean can you access the purchased songs from another apple id. No you cannot. You will need to download these on another computer and then transfer the hard files into your itunes library that you are using icloud with and let icloud match them.
You cannot access two different id's from one match account. Also, if you sign out of the match account that you are signed into to another to download purchases you will not be able to sign back into your match account for three months. So do not do this either. Just use a friends computer or another way.

I guess Chrome will not allow me to sign up for Mozilla newsletters after I downloaded FF, unable to get page to accept my email, etc.

Been having trouble w/Chrome would play audio only of Vimeo videos, fixed that but now will not display photos on Pinterest, only the links behind them. So I thought I'd try Firefox again, used to use it for several years. Downloaded and then thought I should sign up for your newsletters. But (using Chrome right now) I could not get the page to accept my subscription. Tried several times, refreshed, etc. Not sure why, seems strange.

I guess with my post here my intent was mainly letting you folks know that apparently there is a bug on that newsletter page when it is viewed in Chrome. I could not find any way to report this issue unless I came here so I gave the whole story when I did. I am pretty sure once I install Firefox, I will be able to use that page to sign up for the newsletters, thinking it must be Chrome. Of course, I could be wrong, we'll see when I get to it. Can't get itunes. I get the following message when I click on either the shortcut or the program. It says ITunes has stopped working and I can either check on line for a solution and close the program or just close the program.

It seems that my entire library is not there. If I sync my ipod will it add it back into my library on the computer?

Force closing apps changed in iOS 7.
Reading the User's Guide would have revealed this.
Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar.
Swipe UP on the card to force close the app.

Sorry. That was not apparent from your original post.
So you tried the reset mention above? Is the Shuffle plugged into a USB port on your PC/Mac or via a wall adapter? Maybe let it sit for a day or two and then try the reset again.
Otherwise, it could be a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to take or send the device in for service/repair/replacement.

I keep getting a message to up-date my FireFox software; but when I follow the prompts it doesn't work, and I continue to get the same message EVERY time I sign in. What's up with that?

When I start my computer (Windows) I find a message window on my Home Page (AOL) that tells me somethinglike "It is recommended that you up-date your software to Firefox 4.0 (?)". When I click on the button to up-date, it tells me that it is "connecting to server". Then I watch as the green "up-dating" bars flit across the screen...and flit across the screen...and flit across the screen...and it just keeps going.
Then I click on a button that says "Hide", assuming that the up-date is continuing to do its magic while I am busy elsewhere. This gives me a minimized button that is labelled "Software Update". When I click on that to maximize it again, I find that the "connecting to update server" just keeps going...and going...and going............. Finally I just cancel the whole process.......until next time I go online and the same window tells me to update my software.

Try a different browser, e.g. Firefox or Chrome instead of Safari.

For some reason when I play my Imovie the second half of the movie's sound just stops working and I can't hear anything. It was working before but now it isn't and I don't know what to do.

When I was putting together an Imovie I put music in the background and it played fine in the beginning but now when I watch it the first half of the movie plays music while the second half is silent even though I put music there as i did with the first half. So basically...the music in the second half of my movie is not playing like it used to.

I seriously doubt that Apple will accept your iPad for service/exchange since it sounds like it's a real basket case. If they
Do accept it, the cost would be 99USD, but if it is a 64Gb model it will cost 199USD. The best thing for you to do is to take it into the nearest Apple store to see if they will accept it for repair/exchange. I can tell you that they definitely will not give you an iPhone in exchange.
