Where is my login picture located

How can I access the photo I have taken for my login image, I want to extract it out.

It is embedded in the account information in the Directory Services database. It cannot be "found," but you can extract the image.
There is a pretty good writeup at Stack Exchange: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/44956/where-does-the-mac-store-account- pictures

  • Where is the login picture (user image) stored?

I just re-installed my tiger system from scratch (boot camp issue) and finally managed to get the system almost identical to the one I had backed up. One minor remaining issue is the login picture. I liked the one I snapped previously and would like to select it again. Unfortunately, I cannot ascertain where these images are stored. I even created a couple of new ones from the System Prefs -> Accounts -> Picture -> Edit location and then did a spotlight search for images created since yesterday but nothing showed up.
Since I backed up my whole machine, I am fairly sure that I still have that old image around somewhere... Can anyone tell me where they are located (or what they are named)?
    Thanks
    Ben

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I can't check in my old system address book. Or at least I don't think I can (I'm at work now and can't verify this).
What I did was this: I backed up my entire drive to an external drive, wiped the internal drive, and re-installed OSX. I then manually copied all of my preferences etc. back to make my new system as identical to the old one as I could. I tried to use the migration assistant but since it didn't find any old systems (it didn't consider my backup a true system) it couldn't do the migration.
So, (and again I am at work and cannot verify this) I suspect that even opening my old address book app from the the backup wouldn't show me my old picture. But even if it did, how would I get it from there into my new system? That is why I am trying to find the actual location on disk where the file is stored (so I can navigate there in the backup and copy the file).
Thanks again for your help for what is really a minor and silly issue.

  • Where does aperture store picture location?

I am trying to use the slide making tool using the map background. It appears that if I have identified the location with a google command and not filled in the location on the assign location command, the slide comes up with a nonsense location. So I am trying to fix my images. The problem is I can't figure out away to select a picture and then see whether or not there is an assigned places rather than just a pick from google. Where can I find in the metadata the location?

    Hello Bill,
I am trying to use the slide making tool using the map background.
Are you talking about a Slideshow using the "Places" Theme?
The problem is I can't figure out away to select a picture and then see whether or not there is an assigned places rather than just a pick from google. Where can I find in the metadata the location?
That part of Aperture has been added only recently and does not yet integrate very well with the overall Aperture design - imho . You cannot see the places in the Metadata panels in Browser View - the IPTC location there does not correspond to the places. You will only see GPS, if GPS metadata have been assigned.
You can search for "Places" using a "smart search" or a "smart album" with "Add rule -> Place is" or "Place includes", if that is of any help, or browse all your places in "Places View" with "Meatdata -> Manage my places".

  • Where are link icon pictures located? I'd like to back them up.

I bookmarked a lot of sites in my favorites folder. Each of the links in there has a little picture given to it by that website.
Whenever I uninstall Firefox and then later install a new version, all those bookmarked links lose the icons. The only way is to go to each site to recreate them but it's very time consuming.
Is there a way to make a backup of this?
I'm pretty sure it's not the file prefs.js because I tried it before and it didn't restore the link icons.

  • Where to find the Login Picture

    Hello;
I wonder where can I find the original picture that is used as my login picture, I mean the big size one.
Worth mentioning is that I managed to extract a 256x256 px version using:
    dscl . -read /Users/short_username JPEGPhoto | tail -1 | xxd -r -p > ~/Desktop/accountImage.jpg
But I need a bigger one if possible.
    Hope someone will help.

  • User Login Picture?

I have just reinstalled leopard as it was not functioning to well, on doing this I have lost my login picture associated to my account. I have backed up everything on another drive but cant seem to find this picture anywhere>?
I would really like to find it if possible as it must be there somewhere!
Does anyone know where this could be>?

OK, this may be the problem, how about a few maintenance jobs. In Utilities>Disk Utilities, run Disk Permissions. Next, reset the Pram:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
These are harmless, non-invasive measures that may reset to default settings.
I have no more, I really hope this works.

  • Login picture not sticking

I've changed from a 1st gen MBP to a latest gen one. Transferred all from the old to the new via firewire during the initial setup.
    All is working OK.
BUT: when I want to change the login picture of my account (admin and only one) I can change it but it doesn't stick, i.e. it does not change the picture on the left list where the users are.
This should be a nobrainer but I can't get it working.
    What is happening here????
    Please advise

That's because your login picture isn't actually saved in your own user's home directory. It's in a rather odd place -- not sure why Apple did it this way, but here's the solution:
    You'll find it lives here:
    Macintosh HD -> Library -> Caches -> com.apple.user501picture.Cache.tiff
Note that '501' is the Unix userID number of the first user account created on the box. If you have more than one user, then you'll find more than one file (e.g. a 'com.apple.user502picture.Cache.tiff', etc.). Since you used the account migration utility when you first set it up then your accounts will have identical Unix user ID numbers on each machine (you wont need to worry about renaming them).
Just copy the file from the old machine to that same location on the new machine. You may have to reboot after the copy before the picture shows up.
What I find really odd about this is that it lives in a folder named 'Caches'. A 'Cache' is, by definition, not authoritative (e.g. it implies that the real data lives somewhere else), but I ran into this same issue and have scoured my hard drive in search of another location and this is the only one. Also... the folks at the local Apple Genius Bar report the same thing (this is the only place it's stored).

  • Where are my edited files located?

I recently needed to make room on my PC so I transferred my entire Pictures folder onto my external hard drive. Apparently any photos I had edited in CS5 then saved in Lightroom were moved and I cannot find where they are saved to locate in Lightroom. When I click on them in Lightroom it just says "This folder cannot be found". Its only for photos edited in both Lightroom and CS5, any that were only in Lightroom can be found on my external hard drive where I backed them up, I'm only looking for files with "edit" in them (e.g. _DSC6181-edit.tif). Any help in finding these files that were apprently moved would be great, thanks!

There are no edited files. Lightroom stores all the adjustments in the catalog. It applies those adjustments to the image whenever you choose that image in Lightroom. Since you moved all of your images to the external hard drive, that is where they are located. And you are going to have to go through the process of linking everything up again.

  • Where is the account picture stored after initial setup?

where is the account picture stored after initial setup?

Are you looking to change the image? If so go to system prefs, go to accounts. You'll see the image that you see at login, by clicking on it you'll be given a drop down with all the images which you can select a different right there. If you go to the root directory in the libray folder you'll see a folder user pictures they are in there. The root directory is the main device on your hardrive, you can open finder and see it listed in the sidebar. Hope this helps!

  • Where is the background picture for a window stored?

    Greetings,
Where is the background picture for a window stored? What is the file called? I am trying to find the image used on a DVD.
    Thanks

when you set a picture to be a background of some folder that picture is not moved from its original location. instead a record is made in the .DS_Store file of that folder indicating that this picture is the one to be used for the background. in case of the DVD it is likely sitting in some hidden folder right on the DVD.
run the following terminal command to enable showing hidden files in finder
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1; killall Finder
then look on the dvd and the picture should be there somewhere. if you still can't find it open the .DS_store file of the folder in question using Text Editor. a lot of this file will be unreadable but the picture path will be present in plain text.
when done rerun the above command after changing 1 to 0.

  • FCP X version 10.1.1.  When Sharing to DVD I get the following alert " There was an error burning your discd.  Not enough Disk Space in Target Folder"  I have 700GB   free.  Where is this target folder located?  how can I fix this problem? not space prob

Sharing to DVD I get the following alert " There was an error burning your disc.  Not enough Disk Space in Target Folder"  I have 700GB   free.  Where is this target folder located?  How can I fix this problem? This is definitely not a space problem.
Since starting with FCP X, there has been tons of issues, now that the product actually works with the exception above, makes it impossible to share the production.  Has Apple fixed this problem.  is there a knowledge base article on this?
On another note, One reason I have not purchased support on FCP X is because you sold a product that never worked for almost an entire year or more.   Now I can finally finish my project,  I cannot share it.....Really.  This has to be fixed now, I am loosing money as I typed this.

Just curious, why would repairing permissions, rebooting ( rebooted 2 times already today) or creating a new user possibly fix this.
I cannot create a new user, that is way too much work.  I will repair permissions again,  I repaired permissions just a few days ago. Then I will reboot, login and turn off App Nap and rerun the Share DVD.
There must be something seriously wrong with the OS if your are suggesting creating another user.   WOW!

  • Filter referenced pictures located in a specific directory

I'm trying to consoliate all my pictures to a directory structure on external disk.   Most of my files 16K files are located there.    Of those 16K files, I have 6K files that are located on my local storage (MBA).    I would like to create a filter to find all referenced pictures located on specfic directory and not the external storage.   Something like where the directory like "/Mac HD/Users/myacct/Pictures/"  Is this possible?
    TIA,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
You can easily find all images on the system or the external volume, but not a specific directory without resorting to writing an AppleScript.
Quit Aperture, then dismount (eject) your external volume, to make all originals on that volume offline, and then restart Aperture.
Then define a search, or a smart album; with the added rule "File status is offline", and all your originals on the external volume should be listed in this album. Then flag them or tag them with a keyword or color label.
A second album; "file status is online" should give you the images on the system drive.

  • Where is the GPS receiver located?  I see 3 dots where the infared is...

Where is the GPS receiver located on the new iPhone 3G? I see 3 dots where the infared sensor is by the handset speaker... Is there an actual receiver? Why can't I find any real tech specs on the subject?
Can anyone point me in the right direction to learn more?

Yes, there is a REAL GPS receiver that communicates with REAL satellites.
That answers 'most' of it I did want to know that the new iPhone 3G ACTUALLY gets info directly from satellites (not just relayed from towers).
I also wanted to know where it was located... But I'm thinking now that it is internal and can not be seen from the outside. Is this possible? does GPS info from satellites go through the shell of the phone to an internal receiver?
I did some tests myself to see what the small 'dots' did near the 'ear' speaker did. Here is a pic of what I came up with after using a flashlight while covering some up with electrical tape:

Now, here are pictures from the links above saying that the receiver is located near those sensors (not my pics.. i stole them from the links/websites above):
