Where is my profiles folder

I've been having issues with my MacBook Pro and was just at the Genius bar.  They wiped my drive and re-installed os v10.8.5.  They do not want me to do a restore from my Time Machine because they think that my problem might be related to the version of the os on my back up.  They want me to piece meal drag apps/docs/folders from the back up to my newly wiped drive.
I need to find my Thunderbird preferences to be able to access all my stored email. I can't find that folder.  The instructions say to look in the Library Folder for the Preference Folder then the Thunderbird Preference Folder.  In that folder is my profile.
I can find my Library Folder directly on my hard drive (not within my user area) but it has no pr

In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. This will make your User Library visible.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

  • Where is my profile folder?

Just reinstalled mac os x but forgot to backup the profiles folder so lost all my bookmarks. Reason I re-installed Mac OS X was for a new HDD, so I've got the old one (as it was) in a USB enclosure.
Was under the impression that the folder should be in Library/Application Support/Mozilla Firefox/profiles but there's no profiles folder, just an extensions folder.
Where else could it be? Where was firefox storing my info if not there?

It's not in the library folder (as above) and unfortunately no roaming folder either, although not sure whether you've got that path entirely correct. I've never seen an appdata folder directly in the username folder.

  • Where is the Profiles folder located on a Windows 8 machine?

I have to transfer my Thunderbird LOCAL FOLDERS from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 8.1 machine. How to do that?

    open Thunderbird.
Press F10 and select the help menu
Click on the show folder in Troubleshooting information.
OK so that is the Thunderbird profile folder unique to your installation.

  • Relative path for Download directory folder.I created a firefox profile and i wanted to use this profile in multiple machines.I wanted to use a relative path for download directory with respect to the profile folder.I need this on Linux machines

I have a use case where I need to use different download directories with different firefox profiles.I need to use this profiles in multiple linux machines.
I need to have a relative path to my download directory with respect to the profile folder.
Ex: I have a selenium test which opens a website and downloads it to my machine.I want this downloaded file to go into some specific folder relative to this profile folder. How do I do this??

That is not a practically empty xinitrc - that file only needs one line: exec WM.  Other things are entirely optional, and some of them very useful, but I'd encourage you to stick with the simplest xinitrc that will do what you require.
Is slim involved?  Probably.  That is the source of many problems.  But to start narrowing this down, I have 3 suggestions:
    1) temporarily (at least) change your inittab to default to runlevel 3 ... actually, is it currently set to 5 or 3? if it is currently 3 that would explain why slim doesn't start.
    2) at a tty in runlevel 3 use "xinit" instead of "startx".  Startx is fine most of the time, but it is essentially just a complex wrapper for xinit.  That complexity can often iadd useful functionality, but it *always* makes troubleshooting more difficult.  So for now just use a vanilla 'xinit'.
    3) remove dbus-launch from your exec line in xinitrc.  This is done by console-kit so it is redundant and potentially problematic.  Further BOTH of these are taken care of by slim, so I'd even suggest getting both a jump start on being ready for slim and simplifying troubleshooting by removing both of them.  Just make that line "exec openbox-session"
    Edit: adding one more:
    4) temporarily switch out openbox-session for openbox.  I suspect the reason feh's setting of the background is getting overridden is due to a script or setting in openbox's autostart settings - many of these are only invoked when "openbox-session" is called, while "openbox" starts *just* the window manager itself.

  • Whenever I try to open it, I get something like "Firefox is already running". HOWEVER, when I check my profiles folder... it is empty!

Exact message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system
This happened when I first booted up the computer (so I hadn't been running Firefox anyway).
    I already tried:
-restarting and shutting off. This does not help. However, the system felt the need to run an error check on one of the restarts, which turned up nothing. This might indicate something.
-Opening task manager. firefox.exe does not appear in the processes list.
-Using the help file. None of it seems to help since the profiles folder is empty. I can't run profile manager either.
-uninstalling and reinstalling. I STILL GET THE SAME ERROR. Furthermore, the profiles folder is still empty!
I am currently running a virus scan, so far nothing. IE seems to be unaffected.
EDIT: Latest version of Malwarebytes has turned up no threats.

Well, if the profile folder is empty, either its contents are somewhere else and hopefully you can put them back where they belong, or you lost your profile info. I don't know how could happen, though...
In any case, see this support article to know about managing profiles:

  • Roaming Profile Folder Creation Immediately Inaccessible

Set up is AD 2008.  Terminal 2012 R2, Fileserver 2012.
Before we've had it set so we could create a user in AD, log them onto the Terminal, it creates the profile, which on log out is saved to its roaming location on the Fileserver with a V2 after it.  In their profile field in AD, that Fileserver location
    was given as well.
Something changed recently and we're not sure what.  Now if I create a user in AD, and log them into the Terminal, it gives me a message that a temporary profile is being used for this log on.  When I log out, it creates the V2 on the Fileserver,
but I'm unable to access it even with admin credentials.  I've been able to change the owner, but it doesn't allow me to delete that folder and try again.  I have been able to run this
    SET DIRECTORY_NAME="C:\profilelocation"
    TAKEOWN /f %DIRECTORY_NAME% /r /d y
    ICACLS %DIRECTORY_NAME% /grant administrators:F /t
    PAUSE
where the profile location is the folder in question and have it open it up enough to delete so we can troubleshoot.  But doing that doesn't change the initial Terminal status of using a roaming profile and it using a temporary profile.
On the terminal server, I have also found the registry setting for that user and deleted it (the one with the .bak ending).  That allows a good logon if I remove the profile location setting in AD.  But when I move the folder to the fileserver,
and then add the location back in AD, I get the Temporary Profile error again.
Any ideas where to start looking?  I don't think we've changed any GPs that affect our terminal users.  Current users are fine, but I won't be able to create any new users and have them use a roaming profile.
    Ben Rollman

Well, I'm still not sure what changed.  Here's what I've done so far.  (Email to my boss yesterday.)
I set up a test container under States and moved all the state user, test user, etc into it.  Then I backed up the current ExtUsers_UsersGPO settings and imported them
into a new GPO called TextExt… and enabled the computer settings.  It had the following but the Computer Setting wasn’t enabled so it wouldn’t have done that.
    Policy
    Setting
    Comment
Add the Administrators security group to roaming user profiles
    Enabled
I deleted the local and roaming file, and for good measure the registry entry.  I logged in as “testuser” and didn’t receive any problems.  Created a test folder,
test file, logged off.  I see the testuser.V2 on the FS, but I can’t access it, like before.
I run the following script to change it so I can access it.
    SET DIRECTORY_NAME="C:\Files\Profiles\testuser.v2"
    TAKEOWN /f %DIRECTORY_NAME% /r /d y
    ICACLS %DIRECTORY_NAME% /grant administrators:F /t
    PAUSE
The FS profile is set for full rights for domain and local admin, but no user.  So I add the user as the owner, and give the user full rights.  Log in, and I get
    this.
Your roaming profile is not synchronized correctly with the server. Windows will load your previously-saved local profile instead. See the previous events for details.
    And these in event viewer.
    Windows cannot copy file
\\statefs\Profiles\testuser.V2\ntuser.ini to location C:\Users\testuser\ntuser.ini. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.
DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.
Windows could not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be copied to the server when you log off. Windows could
not load your profile because a server copy of the profile folder already exists that does not have the correct security. Either the current user or the Administrators group must be the owner of the folder.
I had put the icons on the FS folder just to see if it would show up.  I saw the test folder okay in both.  But when I logged back in, the shortcut icons weren’t
there.  AND when I logged off, it overwrote the FS folder, removing the icons.
From there I checked the TS local profile folder (just in case) and saw it had no testuser rights at all.  The owner of that folder was SYSTEM.  So just for fun I
changed the owner to testuser, made sure to set it for all subfolders, logged in, no error message.  Logged out, put shortcuts into the desktop folder on FS, logged back in, no errors and the shortcuts are there.
    So.
I don’t know if it’s the GP or the fact that maybe the TS folder wasn’t getting the right permission to allow the roaming process to write to it or both.  I’m going to
try to recreate this, see if there’s a way to shorten the process or create a template like before.

Where is the bookmarks folder on my hard drive? I want to copy them to a cd to back them up. I have a lot of saved bookmarks that I do not want to lose. I know in MS that it is under the favorites folder, but I cannot find a bookmark folder.

  • How do I find the logon name associated with a roaming profile folder

    Hello,
We have Server 2003 R2 Enterprise and Windows 7 Enterprise workstations.
We normally name the profile path \\server\profiles\%username% and that assigns the users logon name to the profile folder.
Someone created a user account and incorrectly named the profile path so the folder name and user logon name do not match. I am trying to find out who owns the folder without taking ownership of the folder (by default, we did not include Administrators in
    NTFS permissions).
Is there a way I can find out what the user logon name for the profile folder is without taking ownership of the folder?
    Thanks in advance.

if there is a chance that the user/owner is still configured with this folder as profile attribute, check the profile attributes of you users for the user account with the matching profile folder attribute.
check the script gallery, or similar, for a script which will list out all user account profile attributes to a text file, then search/browse that text file for the matching folder name -> user account.
I have some older scripts tucked away which do ADSI queries in VBscript, to dump out the home_folder and profile_folder attributes for every user in our AD. This helps when we are re-shuffling home_folders or profile_folders from one server to another, etc.

  • Where is the coverart folder located so I can restore it in TIME MACHINE

I am adding songs day by day from the 30 days of the grateful dead for 2013.
Somehow, the cover art from 2013 replaced the cover art for 2012....and 2012 coverart is GONE...
How do I restore this state in time machine? I don't know where the folders are because everything is cryptic to me...
any help will be grately appreciated.

If you ever have reset Firefox then you may still have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

  • Where are printer profiles stored in 10.9.5?

I have replaced my old, large format printer and want to discard its old printer profiles from the OS. Where are these stored? I'm using Photoshop CS5 with a (new) Canon iPF6400 printer. Can I just drag these old profiles to the Trash or is there some other procedure I need to use? Thanks.

Dragging the old profiles to the trash is all you need to do to get rid of them. They can be in a few places.
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles is the normal location. You can also check the Profiles folder of your user account, they but typically shouldn't be there. They can also be buried in with the print drivers. And those can be difficult to find.
The names of the profiles in the folders aren't what shows up in your apps. So a very vaguely named profile could be one of the ones you're looking for. To check, double click any profile you're not sure of to open it in the ColorSync Utility. Click the second line, Localized Description String. If there's another line named Apple multi-localized description strings, click that one to see what it says. One or the other will be what appears in your lists. For example:
Localized description strings for this profile simply says "Display" in its field below. However, nothing in ColorSync shows up by that name. "CG243W" under Apple multi-localized description strings is what gets used.
I mention this only because some profile names from the desktop are rather meaningless, but those are somewhat rare. Usually, the name is pretty obvious.
So if you can't find the old profiles in the main Library folder, then they're likely in with the printer drivers. Go to the /Library/Printers folder. If your old printer was an Epson for example, and you no longer have any Epson printers, you can toss the entire folder named Epson within the Printers folder if you want to. Otherwise, you have to start digging through the folder of each make to locate them. For example:
In this case, I would look through Epson, Lexmark and Xerox (I already know SII is just a label printer and there won't be any profiles in there). For our Epson 4900, one of the subfolders in the Epson folder was plainly and conveniently named ICCProfiles. All I had to do was empty it. For our now sold Stylus Pro 3800, the profiles were well hidden in a file name xxxx.plugin (the xxxx being whatever its name was). You have to right click on the plugin package and choose to show the contents. Then go through any folders within that and see if the profiles are within that .plugin file.
Yes, it can be much more difficult to find them than it should. So make sure you have a full backup of your system before you start doing this kind of digging.

  • Where do color profiles come from?

We just got a new color printer, and have been struggling with getting the colors to come out reasonable.  On my computer I went in to the color matching on the print panel, and printed out a separate page for each color profile on my machine -- there are 85 of them, with lots of fascinating and exotic names.  In most of the profiles which are identifyably "CMYK", the magenta and purple are both shades of purple, while the yellow has a distinct greenish cast.  The "RGB" profiles produce a nice magenta and yellow, but the purple is maroon.
But I did find a couple of profiles that look really great -- they have names with underscores and all lowercase, kn_vivid_plain5 for example.  So, ok, there we go, select those on all of the users' machines.  Except that the users only have about 15-20 profiles, and none of these are the ones that look good.
I have not a clue as to how all of these extra profiles appeared on my computer over the last 2 years -- installing printer device drivers maybe?  More importantly, I have no idea where/how to get them so that other users can use them.  Can anyone clue me in to these mysteries?

But there are no profiles there to download, and no hint that they think that they should be supplying them!  Nothing on the install cds that came with the printer, either
That just means Minolta hasn't created any profiles to go with the printer you purchased. They aren't required to, and not all that many printers come with profiles, or have them available for download. I was just having you check to see if there were any for your printer.
So what do I need to do to get these profiles on the other users' machines?
Just copy them. They'll need to go into the correct folder so the system can see them. Best place is the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder so all users of a given Mac can access them.
What makes some profiles show up as available in the Print panel's Color Matching tab, while the vast majority (vast, vast majority!) are invisible?
Because some are in the correct place (the Profiles folder) and other are buried, like in the hplaserjetzjs.bundle. The HP print driver software would likely be written to look for them there, but that's not a normal spot for the OS to look, so it doesn't even know those profiles exist.
Is there some magic where I open and save them from the ColorSync Utility?
You don't need to open and save anything. Just copy the profiles from one Mac to the other. But as I noted, the chances that any of them will help you get matching print color to your monitor is hit and miss at best.
If you really want to color manage your systems, you need to invest about $900 (this is the cheap option). I'm referring to X-Rite's i1 Basic Pro. With it, you can properly profile your monitors and printers.

  • Thunderbird crashed after checking profile folder, now no accounts

I was checking the Troubleshooting to locate the Profiles folder to back up. I clicked on "about plugins" to see if there were any plugins installed by default and TB crashed. It would not restart until I restarted the computer, then when launched it wanted to created an account. Both accounts previous created were gone. I found the profiles folder and it has 2 folders with random nos in the titles. I tried the command line profile manager and created a new profile with choosing the copied folder I had. TB would not start. When I chose a subfolder beneath Profiles it did start and my 2 accounts were back with the emails and folders I created. I went to the Troubleshooting again and clicked on the about link and it happened again!
Should I remove and re-install TB again to be safe? What is the best way to backup the emails? I could not find where you would import old emails from either TB or Outlook. We have a backup of emails from our work computer we need to import on the laptop eventually. I need to work this out before I install TB on our laptop that has an email account with many old emails that need to be kept. We are trying to get away from using the AOL Desktop application!

reinstalling does not effect mails or any other data as the profiler is not changed by the process.
If it crashed there should be a crash it for someone to look at, Could you post it.
The plugin information is all retrieved from the registry and is basically shared with Firefox. Unless you modify it you will have none active in Thunderbird. If you do not have Firefox installed however it might be there is no registry hive to read causing the crash. Are you using Firefox or have it installed.
Go to this link and see what is installed. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

  • Where are camera profiles stored?

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with PS CS5 Extended and LR 3.
I have searched my hard drives(which are all indexed) for hours and cannot find where the lens profiles are stored.  Googling for an answers turns up various folder suggestions but none are on my machine.  I cannot locate any .lcp files, any .dcp files, .dcpr files.  There is no folder named Lens Profiles nor LensCorrections nor any permuations of those names.  No listing in any of the Adobe directories with lens or camera names in them.
I also downloaded and installed the Lens Creator software in the hopes that it would point to where the profiles are stored, but it does not.   I'm totally stumped.
Where would I put an .lcp file so PS or LR could find them?  Both programs show profiles for my camera and some of my lenses, so there must be profiles stored somewhere on my system?
    Thanks!

You're a livesaver Yammer P, thank you very much!!!
