Where is my project archive?

I am trying to share my Final Cut Pro X project with my co-worker.  I am able to select "Duplicate Project", which simply makes a copy of the same project back into my Library.
From watching several tutorials, I know I am supposed to be able to click "Duplicate Project" and a promp is supposed to ask me whether I want to duplicate the entire Library, or just the Project. But I can't get that promp to appear. Right-clicking on the project and choosing "duplicate project" simply makes a copy of the project inside my library. But what if I want to send that project to my co-worker? And what if I want to duplicate the entire Library and share that with my coworker as well?
The tutorial also shows a button on the bottom left of the screen that looks like a back arrow with a film reel inside of it. I believe it's supposed to be the Project Archive, from which I am also supposed to be able to duplicate projects.
But the Project Archive button does not exist in my copy of FCP X, and I can't get it to show up. It's almost like I'm running a different version of the program than the one in the tutorial. What am I missing??? I am running version 10.1.1 of FCP X, which I purchased through the App Store.

Since it's external media, does that mean I have to copy it manually through the Finder, as opposed to duplicating the Library from within FCP?
No, when you copy the library to the other drive it will copy with symlinks to the original location. You then need to consolidate the new library in the new location to copy the media into the new library. This will not move the media; it will copy it from one drive to the other, just the files that are used in the project of course. If you want to get them out on the new library onto a new external location on the other drive, you can consolidate again and this time select to move the files into a new exetrnal location on the new drive, which will replace the files inside the new library with symlinks to the new external location. Make sense? Everything can be done and should be done from inside FCP.

  • Premier Elements Project Archive

I just discovered the Project Archive feature and want to start using it but figured the better part of valor would be to come here and see if any of the resident experts can offer advice or point to a good article about "best practices" for using the archive function.
    I'm currently running version 8.0
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

    Dan,
If you are archiving to an external HDD, and are on a PC, I recommend setting the drive letter for that external HDD in the OS of the computer (and also any other computers) where it will likely be plugged in. Do this before you use the Project Archiver function. The reason for this is that all media links are absolute Paths, so any change in those Paths, say folder name/location, or drive letter, will break those links. So long as that drive is always seen by the same drive letter, in the OS, and you do not change the folder structure, the links should be good, so no "Where is file ____ ?" messages, and no re-linking.
I also like to test any archived Project, before I Delete anything.
Also, there have been some issues with Project Archiver (and Project Manager in PrPro) not copying Assets, that are on other drives in a system. I encountered this behavior with my SmartSound files, which were usually stored to and Imported from a separate HDD, than my Projects and other Assets. I corrected that workflow, and now ALL Assets (or the copies of those used in each Project) are in folders within the Project's folder structure and on the same HDD, as the Project. Testing pointed out this little anomaly. Now, in my case, I could have just re-linked to those SmartSound files, but like everything compartmentalized.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

The project label now carries signal with yellow triangled exclamation “i tunes out of date”.
To solve the sync problem I’m following advice and detaching sound from all of the 100 or so short clips.  This operation has been stalled by the spinning ball. Shut down restart has not helped.
The Project is mounted from Iomega and superspeed ext hd connected to imovie09 on macosx 10.5.8.
What to do to resume repairs to the audio sync problem and so successfully share for youtube upload?

Will project archive out of elements 13 work in premiere pro cc or should I output to file? Thanks

    Hi Phillip,
You should be able to open a Premiere Elements Project in Premiere Pro CC (Windows only), however, I tried it and found the results were not very acceptable for use as a backup. Can you try it first?
    Thanks,

  • IDVD Project Archive portability

I just had occasion to update a DVD that I had originally created with iDVD 3 in 2003. I had saved the original project and all associated files on an external Firewire hard drive.
I had no problems opening the project in iDVD 4 (I did have to point iDVD to two of the movie files who's path had changed) and modifying a few files. I didn't want to reencode on my 933 mhz G4 Quicksilver that was running iDVD 4 so I saved the project to my external drive as a Project Archive (File>Archive Project) making sure to check the box that said something about including the themes. This can take a while.
I then transfer the hard drive to my new iMac Intel dual-core machine with iDVD 6. The original template I used (Parchment) was not installed on this machine. The Project Archive open just fine in iDVD 6 and everything was there. I created a disk image on the Intel machine (very much faster than my old G4) and everything works fine.
So I guess the bottom line is that an old iDVD version Project Archive will work with newer versions of iDVD which is great. However, be sure to include the themes when you create the archive.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Project Archiver doesn't trim my project

This question was posted in February, with no answer. Although my video is not the same, I have EXACTLY the same problem.
"I have some 8mm video that I've captured as one long DV (16GB).  I've  run the analyzer on it to split it into scenes based on content and  dropped some of those scenes onto my timeline.  After completing my  editing, I ran the project archiver in trim mode and specified my  external drive for the project.  Rather than creating new clips with  handles, I got the entire 16GB DV file copied over."
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I am not sure how you are getting trim mode from Project Archiver. As far as i know there are only two options there
    1. Archive Project: this considers clips added to timeline only. This is generally smaller in size than full video asset.
    2. Copy Project: this archives the full assets of video which also includes clips not used in the timeline
So if i understand correctly, if you want to reduce the size of archival use first option.
    thanks,
    Tahseen

  • Project Archive Restore Tab missing

Hi, Since upgrading OWB 9.04 to 9.2.0.2.8 the ability to archive/restore my projects has been enhanced to vaporware.
The help still refers to a tab under project prefs, and the ability to archive restore projects, but alas the feature is gone.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Richard.

Hi, yes i can use the mdl export, and I saw the intention was to remove project archive in the next version of OWB, but the help and user docs still say its there.
So it makes you think the install is missing something
Not a big deal really, but having upgraded from an earlier version it makes you wonder if something went wrong with the client install.
    Regards,
    Richard.

  • Project  Archive?

Premiere 6.5 automatically archived mt last 5 saves of every project, in Documents and Settings/Documents/Adobe 6.5/Project Archives. Does Premiere Pro have a similar project archive folder? I can't find it and I really need to!

Saving a project manually does not induce auto-save.
Auto Save saves as whatever timetable is set in the Preferences,
it also always saves to the project folder in the folder Premiere Pro Auto-Save as XXX-1.prproj, XXX-2.prproj etc
If you save a project (ctrl+S) manually is saves the current project as XXX.prproj which is in the project folder.
I have noticed that Premiere does not always do auto save for some reason.
Best is also to Save a Copy preferably to another disk at the end of the day as Auto Save overwrights after a while.

  • Where do deleted projects end up? PLEASE tell me that they are recoverable!

I just deleted an untitled project from Aperture 2.1 which contained 1700 duplicate images that another named project contained.
Deleting the untitled project ALSO deleted my named project along with ALL of my images, all of my edited images that I just spent a week editing. My named project is still in the contents of my Aperture library, but is empty except for two files - Album.implicitAlbum and Info.apfolder
Where do deleted projects end up? Someone please tell me that I am not screwed here.

I agree that backups are necessary, however there is a big difference in work flow between writers and photographers.
Writers (writing novels) usually aren't under as tight a deadline as photographers. I have to have my edited images uploaded to the wire service within a very short time after shooting them. Taking an hour or more to backup a 3TB Aperture library to a vault isn't an option until the images are edited and sent out whereas saving a text document takes no time. Maybe I need several smaller libraries but until Apple makes it easier to switch between libraries on the fly that is going to have to wait.
What I am trying to get an answer to is why this "untitled project", which was apparently created after my original titled project, (the images within were rated and edited just like the project I was working in), blew away my masters in the titled project when the untitled project was deleted. I didn't import them to the "untitled project". I didn't copy them to the "untitled project". I wasn't aware that the "untitled project" existed until I saw it and deleted it.
Additionally, where did the files go? They are not in the trash, there is no Aperture directory in the trash as has been the case in the past, and there is no sign of them anywhere.
    Anyone?

  • Project archiving

I have an Xraid (3.7TB) that is out of space and bought a Granite Rack with two 500g drives, expadable to 8 drives. I am trying to figure out how to best archive my projects with media manager or exports. There are different types of projects basketball games, oral histories, academic lessons, etc...
Now I know the basketball games are somewhat strait forward and probally can just do an export with them because they will never need to be edited. The others may need to be edited in the future or some of the files (clips) I may need in the future for using in other projects.
What concerns should I have when using Media manager? How should I set it up? Should I save the render files with it? I have a basic understanding of it but don't want to lose anything that I might need later.
When I first bought the Xraid I was a newbie to FCP. There are files all over the raid that are used in different projects.
Finally, in the beginning I used to capture from tape, but for the last year I have been using a Firestore, so there are no reel names. how should I address this?
Sorry for the long post. hope someone can give me insight on this matter. Thanks.

I'm with Bryan. Why are you keeping this stuff?
But we all have similar issues. (Caution: Advice like this is only valid if you think like I do.) What to keep, what to toss? Where to keep it, how to find it? Don't add more storage to a bloated situation! If you're holding onto useless footage, you're losing money. If you're not selling your footage, you're actually paying your clients to store their work for them. If you're going to continue such philanthropy, buy cheap FW drives and offload the projects using MM or just copy your media folders and hope you can sort it out later.
Send your clients a note saying you are no longer going to store their projects for free and offer them an attractive deal that makes you look like a saint. Your note clearly states how long you will hold the project, say, one year, for free, or that you will sell them the FW drive for a hundred dollars. After six months send them a reminder note and then start recycling your FW drives.
DO NOT OFFER TO BURN DVDs. Clients do NOT understand the difference between MPEG2 and DVDROM.
Keep the stuff you need or want. That's a clerical job and asset management tedious as heck. Create a folder somewhere and drop copies of your keeper footage into it. Sort it when you can. (Buy "The DAM Book" from Oreilly for realworld suggestions on how to create and manage asset/archive systems.)
Can't help you on the Firestore issue, sorry, but there are thousands of users out there somewhere. Dunno if the mfr has a user forum but the manual should have given you some workflow suggestions.
Please drop by your thread sometime soon and tell us what you've been up to on this issue. Your experience will help many others who find themselves in similar situations. The tendency to keep everything is a disease.

  • Project Archive won't playback on iMovie HD

    Hi,
I made a backup project on dvd using "Burn a project to disk" ( file size 4GB ). When I tried to open this in iMovie HD, I got the message "The project could not be opened, because the disk is full, the project is locked, or the folder permissions are incorrect." Obviously the disk isn't full ( I tested it again using afile size of 100MB - same message ). I used Disk Utility to "verify disk" - passed. "Verify disk permissions" was greyed out. Any ideas?

    Hi Lauren,
You cannot open the project directly from the DVD. You need to copy the archived project from the DVD back onto your hard drive, and open from there.

  • Where are the project files located on the hard drive

does anyone know where on my hard drive I can find the imovie project files. In the itunes under imovie it shows two projects but they are not on my ipad in the app. how do i delete them if they don't show up when using the imovie app.
    Thanks
    Roger

If you see a project in itunes (in the apps tab, and then File Sharing),
you can import it into iMovie iOS from the main screen.
Open iMovie on your device and go to the projects screen, if it isn’t already showing, by tapping My Projects in the upper-left corner above the viewer.
On the screen, tap the Import button , and tap the name of the project you want to import. When the import is complete, the project opens and can be edited like any other project.
Have a read of this helpful manual that explains the in and outs of iMovie iOS:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/ipad/1.2/index.html#
This explains in more detail about getting projects in and out of iMovie iOS.

  • Where to find after "Archive and Install"

Hi everyone. I recently installed Leopard onto my Macbook. During the process, I used the archive and install feature to save all of my old data and files. Right now everything is located in the "Previous System" folder on my hard drive. I am trying to find my iCal information, but don't know where it's located. Does anyone know?
I didn't backup any of my calendars. I didn't think I would have to since all the information should already be saved.

    aimili,
If you actually accomplished an Archive and Install, you should be able to open iCal and the previous calendar information will populate your upgraded iCal. What calendar information is displayed in iCal when you open the application?
If your old calendars are not displayed you should be able to find your previous information in folders named something like 4A1DC586-14EC-4D42-B659-BEBA31968385.calendar in the Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources Folder of your previous system folder. There will be as many of these folders as you had calendars on the previous system, but they will have different alpha numeric names on your computer than the example which I just gave you.
Open these oddly named folders and you will find the corestorage.ics files containing your former calendars.
Use iCal to import the corestorage files by using the iCal>File>Import... menu command to navigate to and import the appropriate corestorage.ics file for each of your calendars.
Did you ever use .Mac? If so, you may also have calendar information that can be retrieved from that service.
    ;~)
