Type a movie or two into Spotlight and see what files you have on your computer. You can use command+r to reveal the source file for an item listed in iTunes and then delete the other copy.

Where's the stuff for designers?

The Flex Developer Center states that the target audience for Flex in a Week is "Designers and developers new to Flex and Flash Builder", but the introduction video says "the training is designed for programmers with experience in server-side technologies such as ColdFusion, PHP, Java, or .NET."
What's going on? Why is there such a huge emphasis on ColdFusion in Flex at an introductory level?

Updated to iTunes 11.0.4 - now where's my stuff!?

After updating to 11.0.4 my library appears to be empty. I have all my music and movies on a ReadyNAS, nothing locally on my harddisk, but as of today when I open iTunes and point to where my iTunes Media folder is, it appears to be empty. All the files on my NAS are still there, so do I "just" need to import all my stuff back into iTunes? What about all the changes I have made previously, genres and playlists and such - do I have to go through all this again? I have about 10.000 songs on my NAS, all was categorized in iTunes and now I fear all my work is wasted....?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I found that if I SCROLL down to the word 'playlist' and hover around the name, a 'show' comes up. Click on the 'show' and everything magically appears.

Off-topic I know, but can someone tell me I'm not imagining this please? Isn't there supposed to be a link on these pages called Your stuff which will list all posts which I've either started or posted to?

How they're accessed has changed with this version of the forum software - click on Content (between the Activity and People links) towards the top right of the page, and you should get a screen where you can select (on the left-hand side) threads that you've started ('authored'), participated in, or are following.

I just got my mini, and used the transfer tool, from PCM to Mac ... Now where did all hat stuff ( documents from office, ect) go.... I use the find tool... Yes, I'm lost!

open finder, it is the Picasso looking icon in your dock on the far left side.
if you don't see a side bar, hit option+cmd+S to show the side bar.
assuming you put your documents in documents, go to the documents folder.
Finder is how you navigate your files.
Most apple stores have work shop classes to get you fully adjusted to your new computer and OS.
Maybe a hands on expereince is better for you.

Where did my stuff go?

I don't understand the prompts "replace" or "merge"...merge sounded safe so I chose it but somehow the only things that got saved to my new iPhone were contacts/messages from Oct 18...nothing after plus no music, ringtones or applications.
I am re-backing up my old iPhone (which I did right before I connected my new iPhone) but now it wants to replace all of my old stuff with nothing (from the new one)

Can't choose where to install stuff....

why is there no "general" category under "Snow Leopard"... I didn't know where to post this....
I'm trying to install Xcode, but have a problem:
Xcode installation creates a "Developer" dir.. I want this dir to be at same level as "Application" folder is.. but when installing only choice is HD, it does not let you navigate to where in HD you want Xcode to be installed... how can I tell it to install it where I want it please...

You have misunderstood the macworld article. It says that the "Developer" folder will be created at the same level as the /Applications and /Users folders (i.e. at the root of your hard disk).
There is logic in this. /Applications is for all applications that are not in development! There is a clear system to the folder hierarchy that enables you to place settings and apps at the appropriate level for the task at hand....

Where is my stuff after update??????

I am seriously starting to hate Firefox updates. I open my browser this morning and everything is GONE....all the sites I had pinned to the toolbar at the top, my bookmarks, etc. There is no sign of any tools or anything to FIX this. I looked on the Firefox website and the article was unhelpful about missing things after an update, and referred to a "bookmark button" that doesn't show up on my screen. Plus, there is this horribly irritating feature where the screen toggles back and forth from full screen to only showing the toolbar at the top when I hover over it. I HATE THIS. Is there a way to revert back to my previous version????

i think you may have just accidentally landed in full screen mode - press the F11 key in order to go back to normal.

In order to view the information that is backed up on the cloud you can go to http://vz.to/1ix6ToQ Scroll down towards the bottom of the web page and there will be a link for On the Web: Manager Your Content. Once you click on that link it will ask for you to log in with your My Verizon user name and password. Please keep us posted if you have any other questions or concerns.

Setting gone? Where's My stuff?

I recently discovered a problem with my volume and fixed it with Tech tools pro. It fixed the issue and I was left with a much faster machine although I did loose some files.
I had to reinstall tiger and went about downloading the updates and and re-doing all my bookmarks, itunes, preferences of all kinds etc etc... I also set up the second user account for my girlfriend and she did her settings and preferences.
This was all great until I restarted later and all my settings were back to default!!! itunes songs? gone. Safari folders and bookmarks? gone. Mail? no longer linked to my email. Just about everything was like that. Except....all the stuff in my girlfriend's account WAS FINE and not reset to default. After setting up all my stuff again I went to reinstall my printer driver. I restarted. EVERYTHING back to default in my user account . I've done disk utility, and run the Tech Tool tests and everything has passed.
Am I missing something very simple......or am I back to toast?
I now live in fear of restarting.

Firstly, thanks for the responses. Here are the specifics........
I tested and repaired the Hard drive with Tech Tool (from the startup DVD) and everything was successful.
Either through my own error, or the severity of the damage to the volume I seemed to have lost everything (including my System folder). Using Tech Tool I was able to recover my intunes library and all of my documents (which Tools put on my drive in a folder called -0103510324) but not, it seems, the system folder. So I reinstalled Tiger with the DVD. I was not given the option of erase or archive, or access disk utility, it was as if I was installing Tiger for the fist time.
From here I set up everything (setting, dock, dragged my itunes library from the folder to itunes, set up Safari tabs, bookmarks, preferences etc etc and same for girlfriend's account account.) This was all fine because the machine was faster than ever and alot of junk was gone.
Then......Installed Tech Tool so this would not happen again. Ran tests, minor errors found, repaired, tested again....all passed. Restarted later and everything was back to default, itunes empty, etc. I thought maybe the repair did it. So i did it all again.
Later reinstalled my printer driver which required a restart....and for the third time.....back to default.
So I redid some of my settings and restarted a few times and everything is good. Everything is set up now but I am afraid to touch anything incase I loose it again. It only seems to happen when something gets installed, and my girlfriends' account is never touched.
Thanks again....and let me know if more (or less) info is needed.

Where to put stuff

To keep things tidy after finishing a project, I want to store everything related to the project in one folder and leave that folder on a big ext HD. To facilitate that, how about if I put the .fcp file in the Final Cut Documents folder while the project is in work and put everything else in a meaningfully named folder on an ext HD. "Everything" includes Thumbnail Cache, Waveform Cache, Capture Scratch, Render Files, and anything else related to the project. Then, when I finish, I can move the .fcp to the project folder and the folder can be stored wherever. If I want to get back into the project, I can move the .fcp to the Final Cut Document folder and begin. The media links may be broken but the media can be linked again.

You need to keep your +FCE project file+ and all +source media files+ (video clips, stills, audio files) that are used in the project. It's also a good idea to keep at least the most recent 2-3 +project backup files+ that are located in your +Autosave Vault+ folder.
FCE project files are normally in your +Final Cut Express Documents+ folder. Video clips that you capture from your camcorder are normally in your +Capture Scratch+ folder. Other media files are wherever you save(d) them on your HD.
When finished with a project, I copy those files to a single folder on one of my external HD's.
There is no need to keep +-and you should not bother keeping-+ any render or cache files. Once you move/copy them anywhere they are not likely to be usable anymore ... and they often take up a lot of disk space. They can always be recreated by re-rendering, so there is no need to keep them.

The new site design is incomprehensible. when I used to open the forums and sign in I'd get a link to "my stuff" -- all my old posts or posts I'd been following. No longer there!!!! Please help. Where is that link. Where is that stuff????

@Peter – true. I was literally swamped in messages at my Inbox. Now I tick "Not follow" everywhere I can ;-)
I just don't know where I can follow a specific thread without following any other threads in the same forum AND getting mails like before. Just the ones that I posted to. And not a crammed Inbox for EVERY thread I just looked into and did not post to.
Hm. Let's see how this will develop…
