Where is PDF preview tab in designer?

I have read a number of forums, however none of the suggested solutions have remedied this issue. I have Designer ES 8.2, Reader 9.1 & Acrobat Extended 9.1.  I run reader to show clients how an extended form will look when they opened in reader.  has anybody resolved this issue?

My preview pdf tab is sometimes there and sometimes not. I found that if it is not there the following gets it back.
I save the form and then do File>distribute form. When the wizard comes up I just cancel it. This opens Acrobat and displays the form, which I can then close. When I go back to designer my original form is closed and I have to open it again, but magically when I do, the preview pdf tab appears. It stays put for session once I have done this, so I don’t have to do the dummy distribute form every time.
Not sure why this works or if its going to work all the time, but I hope it helps someone else

  • Adobe Acrobat aborts when using LiveCycle Designer PDF Preview tab.

Whenever I try to use the PDF preview tab in LiveCycle Designer, Adobe Acrobat aborts.  I get the notice that "Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encoutered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.  Yadda, yadda, yadda,....." .
    The error signature is:

Please increase your Buffer memeory for appalications.
Before you go for a preview. try to kill the exisitign process of adobe reader.
We need to see hte size of the XDP being generated.
If it is over 20 0r 30 MB, we may need to bring it down to 2 - 4 MB.
Again if the problem still persists, Re install the acrobat and try.
Lastly, check if the same problem happens when you use a adobe reader 8.1.3 or 9.4 (stable versions).

  • Lost pdf preview tab in ES4

Initial install of LC ES4 did have pdf preview and it worked for a couple wks. Now I can't get the tab back.
I've read the blogs-followed the instructions to resolve-but have yet to get pdf preview tab
I've uninstalled/reinstalled Acrobat XI Pro and LiveCycle ES4 twice now-each time making sure all directory structure removed.
I really need to get this feature back. Does anyone have a solution?

    its working now... weird

  • Trial Version of LiveCycle Designer 7.1 Missing PDF Preview

Following the HELP/Getting Started instructions to test 7.1, I notice that I do not have the "PDF Preview" tab next to the "Body Pages" tab. I never noticed this missing tab until the final steps of the exercise instruct me to use it. I would really like to continue in the tutorial, but until I get this figured out, I don't want to waste time if the product is faulty. (I was really getting into it...when my heart sank!) Can anyone help me?

In addition, it is my understanding and experience (with version 6) that it must be installed
    b prior
to installing LiveCycle Designer. If that requirement continues with version 7 that means that at this point you would have to uninstall LiveCycle Designer, install Acrobat or the latest Reader and then reinstall LiveCycle Designer.
I suggest you save your work (forms, custom library elements, etc) before uninstalling so you can restore it after reinstalling.

  • LiveCycle Version 8-PDF Preview not available

I am designing forms in LiveCycle version 8.0. The PDF Preview is not available. The help file says it's because I don't have Acrobat installed. I have Acrobat Professional version 8 installed. How do I get the PDF preview?

This just started happening for me today. Yesterday Designer 8 was fine. PDF preview was available. Today, suddenly, it's grayed out in the menu and the PDF Preview tab is missing from the main window... POOF! Gone!
I have already done a repair of Acrobat 8... how do I get the PDF PReview back? This is absurd!

  • Why does PDF Preview Crash

    I installed the
Acrobat X trial version, ran it for a few days, uninstalled it, reinstalled Acrobat Pro Extended 9.0 and installed all the updates to bring me to 9.4.3. LiveCycle Designer runs but when I select the PDF Preview tab, it crashed with a C++ Runtime error pointing to FormDesigner.exe. Also, when I create a PDF from Word 2003, it seems like PDFMaker is trying to run twice at the same time. Is there some residue from Acrobat X that still needs to be removed?

    Hi,
    I get a similar problem.
My desktop won't preview the pdf when in LifeCycle Design mode but my notebook will.
I have had this issue for ages and I have given up trying to resolve.
I now  just save the file as as V2 and then open V1 through Windows Explorer.

  • PDF Preview is unavailable

We recently purchased a second copy of LiveCycle so that I can aid in form development. I had a 60-day trial installed awhile ago (that has since been uninstalled) and everything worked fine. I could edit PDFs and then preview them right inside LiveCycle.
So a few months since the trial go by and now we decide to actually purchase it. I get it installed and open up a form to get to work - then I notice the PDF Preview tab is gone and in the "View" menu, it is grayed out. F5 also does not work.
So, after scouring the Internet, here's what I've tried so far that didn't do anything:
Make sure Display PDF in Browser is checked. I don't have this option in Arobat Pro XI, but I installed Reader X and it was there and checked.
Installed Acrobat before LiveCycle. Tried it, didn't work.
Make sure the Adobe PDF Viewer is enabled in Internet Explorer. Done, was enabled when I checked.
Reinstall all products. Uninstalled Acrobat XI, LiveCycle, and Reader. Reinstalled Acrobat XI, then LiveCycle. No luck.
Set Acrobat XI as the default PDF viewer. Already done, did nothing.
We're at our wits end trying to figure this out. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Software info if needed:
LiveCycle Designer ES4 (individual license purchase from Adobe.com)
Acrobat Pro XI (acquired via Creative Cloud membership)
    Windows 8.1
Also, as I mentioned earlier, this worked before during the 60-day trial period with the same exact software. I really have no clue why it's not working now.
Finally, this is what I see (or don't see):

Hmm, that seems to make sense. Do you happen to remember what the registry keys were?
I ended up getting it working today by uninstalling and reinstalling everything - for the 3rd time. I did a restart after every uninstall / install, ran Acrobat once, disabled/enabled the Adobe PDF Reader in Internet Explorer, then started LiveCycle. I created a new form and the Preview PDF tab was there. Must have been something getting caught up when I reinstalled everything the first time.
If you do happen to remember the registry keys, could you please share them (even though my issue is fixed)? It would be great to have for future reference and for other users looking for the same issue.
    Thanks!

  • LiveCycle 8 Designer (PDF Preview Option)

We're finding that any form we open/design that the function under View -> Preview PDF is grayed out.
I've read several KB articles on this issue and found that any changes under File -> Form Properties -> Defaults then adjusted the Preview options do not effect this or any other form.
    Any ideas?
    Scott

    I got it to work!!!
Thanks Mohit and Pam_A for your support.
The Adobe support people directed me to some instructions to do manual removals of stray files and registry items that were lingering from old installations of Reader and Acrobat. After that I did a clean install and it worked!
Here is a list of files that helped me, for others that may have this problem:
"The Display PDF in Browser option controls the Preview Tab from within LiveCycle Designer. It is possible that there are Adobe Reader® registry keys that are left over controlling the preview tab and
    causing it not to load.
Depending on what version of Adobe Reader you had installed, you will
want to do the instructions on the following documents:
    Adobe Reader 8.x
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=kb400769
    Adobe Reader 7.x
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400728
    Adobe Reader 6.x
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=327675
    <(>&<)>sliceId=1
    Acrobat Reader 5.x
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=327928
The most important parts of these documents are the registry removal
sections. Be sure to delete the registry keys as instructed in these
    documents."

  • Items visible in PDF Preview not visible in Design View

    Hello-
I used the auto create function to turn an existing PDF info a fill-in able PDF. Auto create "auto detects" form fields, including in some areas of the form that are not fields at all (blank areas, etc.). I go into Design View and remove any extra fields. However, I've discovered there are some fill-inable fields visible in PDF Preview and in the actual PDF itself (once saved) that are not visible at all in Design View- thus I can't click on them and delete them- they just aren't visible in that view. I've read the forums and it seems the opposite problem is more common, in which something shows in Design View but does not show in PDF Preview or in the final PDF.
Any guidance on what's going on? Next steps? I'm not a coder, so the simpler the better. Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

All the fields on your form are listed in the Hierarchy which is generally on the left-hand side of your screen. In there you should be able to go through each field and delete the ones you don't need.

  • Subform Set visible in Design View and not PDF preview

I have created a form and used several subform sets, all of the sets and subforms within it are set to visible, but when I look at the PDF preview and when I upload the form into my internal system some of the sections are missing. I am not sure what is wrong, can someone please help!?

A subformset is used when you have numerous different subforms that can be laid down but the imbound data stream will determine which subform to lay down. For exmple if you have a form that has a a different verbiage based on state then you can have all of the subforms defined that could possibly go there then when the data is merged the state is derived and only the one for that state is used.
    Hope that helps

  • Reader 11.0.07 does not display content of PDFs created with LiveCycle Designer ES 8.1

We use some PDFs created with LiveCycle Designer ES 8.1 which do not show any content when opened with Reader 11.0.07, only a blank display area or erratic copies of the screen behind it. Documents look fine in print preview though and also print correctly. Tried to change various security or display settings, no effect. Tried other machines, different hardware, different OS versions (Win7, Win8), same effect on every single device with 11.0.07 installed.
    Any ideas, anyone?!?

    Hi,
Not sure why you are resolving the node (??), also I would not be inclined to include a period in the object name (.), maybe this is why you are resolving the node.
Also I don't see in the script where you are calling the instanceManager, in order to use the addInstance method.
Having said that the problem may be in the File > Form Properties > Defaults tab:
Check that Preserve script changes is set to Automatic.
Lastly is the form Reader Enabled? It would need to be for users with Reader to save the changes, including new instances of a repeating element.

  • Fonts are changing in the Preview tab

I have a complex dynamic form in LiveCycle Designer. When I am on the Design View tab, I have most of the fonts set to Myriad Pro. When I use test data and view the form in the Preview PDF tab, all the fonts change. According to the document properties window, they changed to Adobe Sans MM. Why are the fonts changing? How do I get the form to use the fonts I selected in the Design View?

PDF preview is using the currently automated instance of Acrobat or Reader to display your form design. However, font locations are different between the two applications. Designer takes its fonts from a local font folder in its app directory whereas Acrobat/Reader will attempt to resolve font names either through the windows font folder for truetype, etc, and its own font folder located in Acrobat/Resource/Font. If your designer font is not in the Resource folder and you have embed fonts turned OFF in File->Form Properties->Save Options, acrobat/reader will try to substitute the missing font with whatever available font is acceptable usually Adobe Sans. The A beside the font category shows that its an acrobat/reader font resource which is the issue.

  • Preview from LiveCycle Designer

I was recently teaching a class on LiveCycle Designer, and the Preview tab was not available. If I opened the file from within Acrobat, then the Preview tab became available. But when I clicked it (from LCD), I got a error message and was taken back to Acrobat again. (I don't have access to that computer today, but I can check it on Monday.)
Is there a preference setting somewhere that I'm missing? (I've had a similar problem before, but soon discovered that Acrobat was presenting a modal dialog at opening. Once we got past that, we were fine. No similar problem here.)
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Paul, isn't this setting part of acrobat itself and not something one can "set" in the document?  Opening pdf forms on my computer does not show the fields to be highlighted.
Which version of Designer did you use to create the form?
It looks like the same version I had quoted above.
I originally created a form that was based off of an existing PDF image.  I had just put the fields "on top of" the scanned image that the PDF contained.  The result was too ugly for me, so I copy and pasted all my fields over onto a new empty static form and created what I posted above.
Looking at the original "ugly" form's XML it looks like the version of the software didn't change:
    <?xfa generator="AdobeLiveCycleDesignerES_V8.2.1.4029.1.523496" APIVersion="2.8.9029.0"?>
Also, the "right" attribute exists in the original "ugle" PDF document that is dated 5/3/2009 if that helps any.
I followed your instructions and removed "right" and that fixed the problem.  Looks like LiveCycle's XML parser needs an additional validation check!  I had wondered what that "right" thing was since when I was looking through all the settings I didn't see a corrisponding setting. I had just assumed that it was some internal setting I wasn't supposed to care about. Good catch!
    Thanks for your help Paul!

  • In CR2008 the Preview Tab stopped showing up

I am new to Crystal Reports, so I would really appreciate help on this.
My reports used to show up in Preview Mode in CR20080.  I am not sure which setting is responsible for this, but yesterday for some reason, all reports started opening up in Design Tab. I created a couple of reports where I did not use "Save Data with Report" setting.  Now, I changed them back to use "Save data with report" setting, but it still does not help.  Even the reports which I did not touch started open up with the Design Tab only (they used to open in Preview Mode before).
    Please help.  Thanks!

I just received an e-mail from one of my former colleagues.  Based on his own experience, he suggested to verify one of the Crystal Reports settings: go through File->Options. In the application's Options window select tab "Reporting" and, if checked, uncheck "Discard Saved Data on Open" - this option strips away any data from the report even if "Save Data With Report" is checked. He was right, that checkbox was ON, so on the startup, my reports had nothing to show in the Preview Tab. I unchecked the box and that fixed the problem.
Thanks to everybody contributing to this thread.

  • Preview tab locks up LiveCycle

Out of the blue today, anytime I click on the preview tab to check a form being developed, the preview appears then LiveCycle locks up and I have to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program.
I have used LiveCycle for years, using three versions, without this incident. Anyone else experience this sudden behavior?

    Hi,
I have had something like this happen since moving to Designer ES3, can you try Designer ES2?  Otherwise, try these steps
do a preview in Designer, it will die but will produce a file in your temp directory (type %temp% in the address bar of Windows Explorer), the file will have a generated name like _d0g26dao491323gh.pdf
open Acrobat, and make sure the JavaScript option "When exception is thrown" is set to break.
from Acrobat open the temporary file created by the preview (you can't double click the .pdf file from Windows Explorer, or Acrobat will die like Designer does)
So it seems to be if an JavaScript exception is thrown in one of the events before the form becomes visible.
    Good luck
    Bruce
