Where is Purchase date in smart playlists menu?

I recently had to buy a new MAC as my old g5 quite on me. With new macbook pro came iTunes 11, the bane of music enthusiasts the world over. Now one of my most used playlists, a smart list of recently purchased music is useless. The purchase date delineation in the smart playlist was changed to date modified which is not at all the same thing. Now there is no purchase date delineation in the smart playlist setup menu even though you can still put it in column header of the window bar. Can anyone recommend a work around for this? iTunes 11 wasn't supported on my old g5 and I didn't realize how lucky I was.

Purchase Date and Date Added are by no means the same thing.  If you are building an iTunes library on a new computer, or remove and then re-add songs (eg edownload songs from Music Match), they will no longer have the original add date.

  • How to create "Purchased on iPhone" smart playlist?

I lost my old iPhone Larry but the "Purchased on Larry" playlist was still active. My new iPhone Ploobie's purchases were automatically added on it, but as soon as i synced my iPhone to my computer, the new songs got deleted from it. I ended up deleting that playlist in order to create a new one for my new iPhone. However i have found you can't create a "purchased on iphone" smart playlist from neither my iPhone or my computer. Could someone please give me some advice on how to do it?
    Thank you.

I am having the same issue.  I tried merging two "Purchased on iPhone" playlists.  I created a new playlist and copied all tracks from both playlists into the new playlists.  I then deleted both "Purchased on iPhone" playlists.  I purchased a new track on my iphone hoping that when I plugged in my phone to sync a new "purchased on iPhone" playlist would appear so that I can then paste all the tracks in the playlist.  The new "purchased in iPhone" playlist was not created and now I have no idea how to add it back.

  • Where is sort by Release Date in Smart Playlists

I use smart playlists to select and control what podcasts goto my ipod as the standard podcasting sync controls are pretty lame. Where is the order by release date colum? (show colum option) so why is this not included as an option?
Oh and as a hint I'm sure lots have seen if you hold down the control key while selecting a podcast it will pull back deleted podcasts...

Sorry, I was looking under Podcasts, not at a smart playlist.
The release date is not part of the ID3 tags. It is read from the RSS server when the podcast is downloaded.
I suggest sending feedback to Apple here ->http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I will do also as I think this is a very good idea.

  • Where is Purchase Date?

I am unable to find the purchase date on songs that I have just purchased in my library.  In iTunes old release all new songs purchased would appear at the top of my library and there was a purchase date column I could sort songs by date.  I am unable to find that on the new release.  So when I purchase a song it will appear in my library alphabetically with no purchase date on it.  Does anyone know if that function is avialable on Release 11.1?  Thanks - Scott Omaha,NE

You can choose which columns are displayed in the Songs and Playlists views. Purchase Date should be among them.

  • Podcasts Sorting by Release-Date in Smart Playlist

    Hi, all
I keep all episodes of prefered podcast programs (like business week's cover stories), i sort all episodes of each program by release date, which i believe is the most accurate sorting method.
When i create a smart playlist of one particular program, i find the order of episodes in that program's playlist are all wrong, and there is no way to sort them in right order, which is, by release date. Unless i manually ordering them.
The "sort-by-release-date" option does come out while organising the entire podcasts library, but it dissapears in playlist or smart playlist, can I get it back?

You are correct- when creating a Smart Playlist, you are not allowed to sort the playlist by "Release Date".
I find I am able to right click on the current column headers and choose to view "Date Modified" or "Date Created".
By sorting by these columns, I find I can usually sort by the most recently released or downloaded episodes.

  • New purchases are not showing up in smart playlists

New purchases are not showing up in smart playlists. About a week ago the smart playlists stop add newly purchase music. The smart playlists  will add items that are added the the library. Any ideas?

Everythig is turned on as well.

  • Smart Playlists with Date Criteria

It seems any smart playlist with a date criteria (ie: Date Added) will not show up on any device that access the iTunes Match Service. I have several smart playlists with a date criteria and they show up blank on my iphone and ipad. Yet, if I delete the date criteria, the playlist populates on the device. I tried creating a smart playlist with just the date criteria and then in a new smart playlist referencing the date criteria smart playlist and the new playlist will not upload to icloud because an icloud smart playlist can not reference another smart playlist

So I went through technical support because I had this exactly some problem.  Smart playlist shows up in iTunes on my iMAC, as well as via Apple TV (both via iCloud and Home Sharing options.)  It also fully populates those smart playlists.
For my pre-existing Smart Playlists (that only have criteria for the GROUPING field) show up, have songs, but are quite a few songs short.  I then created a brand new play list with brand new tracks... and its empty on iPhone 4S and iPAD2.  Apple TV and IMAC are fine.
So technical support provided me with this response:  For smart playlists to work on iOS devices, the songs must be downloaded to the device.
My feedback was this: So this is chicken and the egg.  You create the playlist to easily locate and download those songs to your device, but you cant because they have to be on your device before they will show in the playlist.
I suppose the only work around is to create the smart playlist w/ your filters.  THEN create a regular playlist and copy everything in the SMART Playlist into the regular playlist.
I have not used Apple products for very long... approaching 2 years.  I moved everything to Apple.  Computers, laptops, portable devices, etc... I have been VERY impressed.  HOWEVER, this makes the point of Smart Playlists completely manual when it comes to your iOS device.
I will for sure be launching a compliant to www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Smart Playlist - Ratings fields are blank and crashing iTunes

My iTunes has recently developed this problem where if I open a Smart Playlist and select "Ratings", the Ratings field is completely white.  There are no stars or greyed out stars.  If I try to click in that field, it crashes iTunes.   Upon reopening iTunes, it runs a "Checking iTunes Library..." function but it still doesn't work correctly.   This is happening for existing and newly created Smart Playlist.
All song rating appear normally within the normal browsing window.
Has anyone seen this?  Anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks

After troubleshooting this by throwing away iTunes preferences, restoring previous iTunes libraries from Time Machine, reinstalling 10.6.7 Combo and iTunes, reimaging the computer from scratch, the root of the cause finally appeared.
After reimaging the computer and running disk diagnostics, the hard disk was failing at times.  I then determined that the hard drive had to be replaced but I wasn't sure if this would fix my iTunes smart playlist ratings problem.
I bought a new 500 gb drive to replace the original 120 gb drive, which was 4.5 years old.
After restoring from Time Machine and booting up into my main account, my iTunes smart playlist finally started working.  I'm guessing that because I have an enormous iTunes library, something about pulling the data was straining the computer.  That doesn't seem right though because creating/editing a smart playlist should just be a regular window without any labor intensive hd actions until you close it.

  • How do you make a "purchased" smart playlist that is sorted by "date purchased" and not "date added"

I'm getting quite frustrated with how iCloud works.
My "purchased" playlists that comes with the iphone when you purchase a song does not work half the time and never syncs accross devices. Also is it possible to make a smart playlist that orders the songs by "recently purchased" and not "recently added"? I don't get why iCloud messes everything up. It really has ruind the music app. Nothing is stable or easy to use. If anyone has this issue or has a solution I would be very grateful! Thanks.

DOn't get me wrong, this is a great way to rebuild things, but the "Purchased" playlist is a speacil playlist and will "Reappear" on the next purchase you make.
You can build one for now, and then when you buy another song, use the playlist your creating now to go by and add to the "green" purchased playlist

  • How do I get purchase date in playlist export?

I want to identify my iTunes music purchases and keep a file of this information.
When I create a Smart Playlist in iTunes that displays only those items where Purchased is True.
Viewing the list in iTunes, I can see the Purchase Date.
I then select - File > Library > Export Playlist > and save the result as a .TXT file.
When I open this file using Excel for Mac or Numbers, the Purchase Date is not one of the columns.
Any idea how to get purchase date as a column returned?
    TIA - JP

If anyone would like to see the true purchase date and you wish to place this information in a file for reference, I discovered that if you create a SmartPlaylist for Purchase = true and make sure that you are showing the Purchase Date in the list, select all the rows, copy and then paste into a text document and then open as a tab delimited spreadsheet, you'll have a true list of all songs that you've purchased and their dates.

  • My smart playlists in iTunes match are not interpreting "date added" property correctly for some songs.

I have many smart playlists that are dependent upon the "date added" property of my songs. I use iTunes match on a PC, my iPad (4th gen), and my iPhone 5, and my music is stored on my iMac. For some reason, (on my iPhone only) a handful of songs stubbornly continue to appear in smart playlists even though their "date added" is much earlier than the playlists dictate. And they are the same handful of songs on all playlists that have this problem.
Turning off Live Updating resolves the problem, but then what's the point of a smart playlist if I have to continually update it manually? Turning off iTunes Match on my iPhone, deleting music, and turning iTunes Match back on does not resolve the problem.

I think I have figured this out, so I'll share in case anyone else has this issue. I had automatic downloads enabled for my iPhone, so any iTunes music purchases were automatically downloaded to my phone. As a result, the "date added" attribute of a song is tied to when it was downloaded to the phone rather than when I originally purchased the song and added it to my iTunes library.
I disabled iTunes Match, deleted these songs from my phone, re-enabled iTunes Match, and that seems to have done the trick.

  • Only Smart Playlists match between iPhone and iTunes for songs purchased on iPhone

I purchase an album on my iPhone.  The music shows up on my iPhone in its Purchased playlist.  I start my computer and the music automatically downloads on my computer and is placed into the Purchased playlist under the iTunes Store on the left panel in iTunes on my computer.  I sync the phone to iTunes in which I have this Purchased playlist selected to sync with my iPhone.  And here's the rub:
From then on, when I plug in my iPhone to sync, it shows up as a device on the left panel of iTunes.  You click on it to show the folders below and, when you click on the phone's Purchased playlist on the computer (left panel under devices), it shows all the new songs I just purchased there in the purchased playlist.  But when you open the actual playlist on the iPhone, some of the songs from the new album are missing from the Playlist on the iPhone.  Again, ALL of the songs still show on the playlist in iTunes and ALL of the songs STILL show on the playlist in iTunes that is under the device iPhone listing in the left panel of iTunes.  So...even iTunes thinks that ALL the songs are still in the Purchased playlist on the iPhone, but when you open the iPhone, some of the songs from the playlist are missing.
I've even tried creating new playlists with different names and dropping all of the new album songs into this different new playlist and syncing this new playlist to the iPhone.  Even then, the same songs are STILL missing on the new synced playlist on the  iPhone.
There is only way that I can make all the songs show up on an iTunes playlist and on the same iPhone playlist.  This only happens if I create and use a Smart Playlist to specifically select those songs.  A Smart playlist always shows the correct songs in both iTunes and the iPhone.  But, again ONLY if it's a Smart Playlist.  If I make any regular playlist and drop the songs into it in iTunes, the playlist shows up on my iPhone but is missing some of the songs.
One other thing...I have no idea how this happens or what is causing it.  Sometimes, one or two of the missing songs will show up hours or days later.  Not sure if it's because I played them on my phone or on my computer iTunes and that caused some flag to trip that then allowed them to show up in the playlist from which they were missing.
Don't tell me to delete all music and resync all music or to manually manage my songs or to restore my phone.  I've done that so many times and it does not work.  I've tried unchecking the songs and rechecking the songs between syncs.  I've tried deleting the songs from all devices and redownloading.  Nothing works.  The only way I've been able to fix this is the delete all content from my phone and do a complete restore and NOT restore from my previous backup (treat my iPhone like a new phone with no backup available).  With 4000 songs and 100+ apps and podcasts, etc...that is WAY too cumbersome and takes to long to do everytime I purchase a song on my iPhone.
Again, this is NO ISSUE with a Smart Playlist...but only a Smart Playlist.  The work around right now is that I have a Smart Playlist that always shows the last 200 songs recently purchased.  That playlist is always accurate on both iTunes and the iPhone.

I checked again last night, and now iTunes matched the phone settings, saying zero space was available. I had nearly 20 gigs of "Other" data :/
So I erased all settings/data on the iPhone and restored from an iCloud backup from last week, and now everything seems fine, with over 15 GB of available space.

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Allow Smart Playlists to sort by Release Date

I listen to my iPod in my car and have a one of those kits where you can control your iPod through your stock stereo (i.e. select playlists by pressing buttons 1-6, and changing tracks with the next track/ last track buttons). One of my playlists is a smart playlist that looks for all downloaded audio podcasts that have not yet been played. As of right now, I have to go into the playlist after every update and reorder the podcasts manually in order from earliest release to newest release. The only date-sorting column right now is "date added". This doesn't work because if I update and download two or three episodes from one podcast, they all have the same date in that field, even if they were released on different days.
Please iTunes, allow a column heading that sorts podcasts by Release Date. This would make my life a lot easier and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I know when I'm looking at all my podcasts from the Podcast-Manager portion of iTunes that I can see the Release Date column, however it is not an available column outside of that view.
Anybody else wanna see this feature?

I was looking for the exact funtion too. Please don't make our life any harder

  • How can I stabilise large transfers of data & retain full smart playlists?

    Hi,
I hope somebody can help. Now that I have more than 20,000 songs in my iTunes, all of which I want to sync, my ipod classic 160gb goes into the 'infinite reset loop', or, when occasionally appearing to sync correctly, ends up with 0 songs, 0 video, etc. on the iPod.
This is despite supposedly having some 22GB of unused space.
I assumed it was by 2-and-a-half-year-old iPod succumbing to old age and bought a replacement, but the problem occurs on the new machine too.
I have tried various solutions from the Discussion forum, e.g.:
    1) procedures for checking for hard-drive errors
    2) restoring to factory settings and then re-syncing
    3) I found one helpful tip for creating a new smart playlist to introduce the files in stages, which is supposed stabilise the transfer of large amounts of data. While this was helpful, and appeared to stabilise the data, I was left without all my smart playlists (except the one I'd created for this exercise). Transferring back to Syncing the entire library, so as to regain all my smart playlists, merely made the iPod unstable again.
I really want to be able to access my (extensive) smart playlists: I'm presuming it's the very amount of these that is contributing to the problem. Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks!

8GB won't really help you unless you also use LabVIEW 64bit. 2GB should be OK.
To graph it, you need to decimate it as shown in the link I gave you earlier. Most likely, your monitor has only a few thousand pixels across, so it is not worth to display more points than that. It won't look any different if done right!
Can you show us your code? Can you attach a small sample file that has the same structure, just with less data?
