Where is Put Back in trash options???

I have seen and used that option before but today I can't seem to find it! It's there but hiding....I right click on my MBP (10.6.7) and I don't see the Put Back option there. Is it just me? Probably. But I would like to know where it went. Such a little thing but I liked that option! Thanks for any help, Judy

Well, I don't know what's going on but that feature is not there when I right click. In if I highlight the item in the trash window and go up to File, Put Back is grayed out..... I am going to restart and maybe it will fix it's self....

  • Unable to use put back in Trash folder

How can I restore a file to its original location. I thought "put back" would do that but it is greyed out? Why would that happen?

If you merely right click on Trash you will not get the menu entry.
I was right clicking on the file itself. The option did not appear under the 'Action' button either. Having tried again it seems that Finder is a little selective in allowing multiple 'Put Backs'. I could recover 3 Pages files, but Finder only let me Put Back 1 JPEG file at a time!

  • I sent iTunes to trash. I was able to recover the program but have to "put back" songs one at a time. Is there any way to put back from trash using the "select all" command?

I sent iTues to trash by mistake (trying to delete files from "yesterday"). I got the program back but have to "put back" songs one at a time. Is there a way to put back multiple songs using the "select all" command or anything else? Thanks for the help.

The prgram is in one location and the library (media + library files) are in another. Sending it all to the trash would take some pretty delibrate multiple actions and digging through multiple folders, so I don't know how this was managed unless there's something in Snow Leopard that's new. Occasionally I have moved a file to the trash in Finder that I didn't want to and I can use Finder's "undo" to undo the last move. With many files...?

  • Bug with "Put Back" feature.

If I delete file dragging it out from Dock's folder to Trash (checked with Downloads, Applications, custom one, Documents) — file can't be Put Back from Trash (CMD+Z as well).
Deleting the same file using Fn+Delete button or opening folder and dragging from Finder's window seems to be working properly.
    Anyone met such problem?

You are right. It does appear to be a bug. I will file a bug report. You can too if you register as an Apple Developer (free).

i have not set up time machine either but i do back up to a site called backupblaze...

    Step 1
    Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
Failure to remove MacKeeper will result from neglecting any one of these points:
Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
Don't empty the Trash after dragging the application to it. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
Don't try to drag the MacKeeper icon in the Dock to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.
    Step 2
Restore from the last backup that predates the unwanted changes.

  • No option to "Put Back" files that were trashed?

In Snow Leopard, I thought we were giving the feature of right clicking a file and choosing "put back" to put the file back where it was before being trashed. However, I don't have this option. I am running 10.6.1
    Example:

Also some programs, such as Aperture, allow you to move an item to the Trash from within the program. Files moved in this way also don't get the "Put Back" option. You have to move something yourself directly from the Finder into the Trash in order to have Put Back.

  • I accidentally removed the trash can from the dock. Where do I find the trash app to put back on the dock

I accidently removed the trash can from the dock. Where do I find the trash app to put back on the dock?

I know this is pretty old but I wanted to add this for anyone else who might come across this thread.
I have PathFinder on my system and there is an option to add the "Remove from Dock" contextual menu items to the Finder and Trash. I accidetally removed the Trash icon, and to get it back do this:
    1. Open Terminal.app from the "Utilities" folder in the main Applications folder. Or simply open Launchpad or Spotlight and start typing Terminal.
    2. Copy and paste the below command exactly, be very careful with Terminal as it can cause terminal damage to your computer if used incorrectly.
    killall Dock
Your Desktop background may flash and the Dock will disappear and will repear after a short pause.
You should now have your Finder and Trash icons back.
    Hope this helps,

  • Where is the "put back" from the trash command

Control click, etc does not reveal it.Is it still available in 10.9?

Unfortunately there is no put back on the contextual menu with control click, right click or command return. I am mostly returning plist files.
My startup disk wants me to enter all kinds of things.
Time machine backup does not restore!
How did the files get into the Trash? Why did you move them there? What problem did you trouble shoot?
Do you remember where you removed the preferences from? Then move them back by dragging them from the Trash to the folder were tehy belong.

  • How can I "Put Back" a time machine backup from the trash to my external hard drive?

Basically what happened was I accidentally put an older time machine backup from my external hard drive into the trash on my macbook. Since then, time machine has made new backups onto my external hard drive. How can I either "Put Back" or replace the deleted backup back into my hard drive?
Whenever I try to move it it says "A newer item named “Backups.backupdb” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you’re moving?" I click replace and after a few minutes of loading, it says "Cannot replace. An item named "" already exists."

As long as you don't delete the trash, the files should be recoverable.
I suspect using the Put Back command could take a long time, so be patient.
If your Time Machine backups are mixed with your daughter's backups you might want to buy a larger drive and move the Time Machine files to the new drive.
Regarding missing photos in iPhoto...There might be options to rebuild/recover that data from iPhoto rather than trying to revert to a Time Machine backup.
Check out this third party app, iPhoto Library Manager. It has a demo.
    http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
    Options for a larger drive.
I like the Seagate USB 3.0 Backup plus drives. Works on USB 2.0 ports. They come formatted for PC but easy to format in Disk Utility.
I don't recommend Western Digital because of the boot problem with some of their drives.
    LaCie makes good drives.
All Mac formatted drives will cost more and it’s easy to reformat with Disk Utility. Do not use the software that comes with the drives. It’s recommended that you use Apple’s Disk Utility.
Prices vary but this gives you an idea of what you’ll find. As you notice the second and third TB is usually only $15 more per TB. Normally, you’ll find these prices but right now the 1T is more than the 2T
Seagate Backup Plus 1 TB USB 3.0 $85
Seagate Backup Plus 2 TB USB 3.0 $99
Seagate Backup Plus 3 TB USB 3.0 $115
I have seen the 3T on sale for $99.
Locally, Best Buy seems to have the best prices.

  • I accidentally moved Excel to Trash, after 'put back' it still doesn't open?

Let me clear, my Excel was working perfectly before I did this.
I had put the excel shortcut on the desktop, and I moved it to trash because I didn't need the icon on the desktop. I tried to open Exel on the dock, but it didn't open and said that you have to remove it from trash in order to open it. So, after removal from trash (using "put back" option), I clicked on the icon on the desktop now. It didn't open. Even with the dock icon, it displayed this message:
    The error message displayed is:
"Microsoft Excel cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Microsoft Excel works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
This report will be sent to apple automatically."
    Community, please help and advise.
I am using Microsoft Office 2011.

When I try to open Iphoto is comes up saying I need to prepare this version of iphoto with an upgrader.  I have installed it many times but it still goes back to the original window telling me I need to upgrade
But did you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader after you installed it?  The installer will install the iPhoto Library Upgrader in the folder Utilities in the Applications folder. Launch the upgrader and select your iPhoto library. After it finishes, try to run iPhoto again.  (See:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader)
Be sure to make a backup copy of your iPhoto library, before you try to open and to upgrade it. That is safer, because in some rare cases the upgrade can corrupt the library.
