Where is QTSS Publisher in 10.5 Server?

"QTSS Publisher comes installed on Mac OS X Server in the /Applications/Server directory. The application can be installed on other Mac OS X computers by simply copying it to those machines; no installer is required. QTSS Publisher is also available on the Mac OS X Server v10.4 Admin Tools CD."
No such application exists in the /Applications/Server/ directory in v10.5...and it's not on the Admin Tools CD, either. Does Publisher not exist anymore after v10.4, or has it moved to where I can't find it?

The program was REMOVED from Mac OS 10.5 Server.
But the functionality still remains in an HTML WEB INTERFACE.
First turn on web admin access in the Server Admin app, then you need to ascertain the network address of your Streaming Server, then launch Safari and enter it:
172.xxx.xxx.xxx
with ":1220" at the end, like so:
http://172.xxx.xxx.xxx:1220/
Then you can log in with the web admin password you set in Server Admin, setup Playlists and everything else.
It's weird that they just killed this with no word, but it's okay. QTSS Publisher was buggy never worked well to begin with. The web interface is good at catching problems and alerting you instead of just immediately crashing.

QTSS Publisher Not Connecting to Server

I have QTSS running and working on my server, but I want to content manage my streams with QTSS Publisher. I downloaded and Installed QTSS Publisher on my computer and on my Server (XServe 10.5.6 - 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) All required scripting is running (Apache) but after I install QTSS Publisher, and enter my server and login for the server I get an error saying "The server didn't return a response". I get this error even when I am on the server! Is this a compatablity issue? Its seems so powerful but I cant get it to work! PLEAse let me know something!!

First thing to check are your firewalls. Do you have the internal firewall turned on? If so, are the proper services allowed?

Darwin Streaming Server and QTSS Publisher

We have a QTSS server set up on an Xserve and can connect to it using QTSS publisher, the problem comes when we try to connect to a MacbookPro that's running DSS. any connection attempts give an error that the server didn't return a response. the MBP is connected to the xserve and is on the same subnet with no firewalls. is this a limitation of QTSS Publisher?

I must admit I haven't tried it in awhile, but didn't think it had changed that much. If you can actually get the delay down to 0.1 seconds, there's a lot of Keynote users that will be VERY happy to try that out

Hello everyone,
At my the art college I work at, I administer some HDTV's that run from Mac Mini's that load QTSS Playlists from the QTSS Server as .sdp files.
Or at least I DID until we upgraded to Leopard Server 10.5, which promised better performance when streaming HD content.
Three different TV's (on 3 dif mini's, with 3 dif .sdp's) used to stream .sdp Playlists made in the program QTSS Publisher. It's kind of like iTunes for QT video files. But now that the server is 10.5, the client can't see the server and there is no new client to download.
My video students and I would be very grateful if anyone could point me to the workflow that is supposed to replace QTSS Publisher.
What do you do with 10.5 Server when you want to concurrently stream different playlists of 20 successive videos, each?

The screen size is too small on the webpage created by QTSS publisher

I published a video file using QTSS publisher.
I'm using "Publish media to Quick Time Streaming Server (instant-on) and Webpage action "Auto-play in Web page".
The screen size is fine when playing via the streaming link but when I create an actual webpage using QTSS publisher and dropping the movie file to that webpage, the screen size is extremely small while playing. Is there a way to make the playing screen size bigger in the webpage?

Can I publish an OS X Server hosted calendar?

Can I publish an OS X Server hosted calendar to the internet for sharing via subscription.
I would like to publish a calendar for subscription to users who are not server users within Open Directory. Ideally they could subscribe to an .ics file via webdav. It appears that server based calendars can only be shared with other server users.

There are a couple of things you would need to do.
Open your router to allow calendar traffic in and out of your network (be carefull about opeing any custom ports on a router as it could allow for unotherised attacks). All internal user passwords should then be strong and all traffic should be encrypted.
Have your external server.mydomain.com DNS point to a public ip address. - At your router you can rout it to the server machine (public ip's would be supplied by your ISP). This will allow external calendar subscription traffic know where to get the information from.
For invetation replies to work from outside your network to your internal network you will need to get your ISP to set up reverse pointer for your domain to point to your public ip address. This allows people outside your network to accept or decline your calendar invetation - and allows your calendar server to automatlycally post those replies in the relevent calendar.
I havnt gone into much depth with these steps because personally I have moved to using iCloud.
For all the hassle and potential risks of opening up your network I would alternativly set your users up with a free iCloud account and use the calendar service there. Super easy and it works. It also limits the potential external attacks on your network.

QTSS Publisher not allowing me to upload anything

I am trying to use QTSS Publisher to upload movies for streaming. When I log in I get an error about being not able to make a folder because I do not have admin privileges. Our server admin has given me full rights and I still can not do anything with QTSS Publisher. I also have a server that I can use to experiment. I am able to publish to it with QTSS Publisher, I am the only user on that server. Is the admin the only one that can publish with QTSS Pub.?

Has no reference whatsoever to “QTSS Publisher” or “Publish”

Says on p. 69:
QTSS Publisher Files and Folders
QTSS Publisher has been removed from Mac OS X Server v10.5. However, files created
using QTSS Publisher on v10.4 should continue to work on v10.5.
What gives?
How do I migrate and then upload and manage my QTSS files now? The manuals are vague!

Hi Tom,
I did this last night (literally). Here is what you need to do. I am working under the premise that your current server is a Tiger server. If this is not the case, then you may have to adapt the Tiger server locations I am providing to your version of server.
If you have not tweaked Apple's configuration in any way, your current streaming media files are located in /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/Movies on the Tiger server. You will need to copy these files to the same location on the Leopard server. Next, you will need to set the permissions and ownership of the files you just copied. If you execute the +ls -l+ command from /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/Movies, you will find that the permissions for the stock sample files are -rw-rw-r--, and that the owner:group is +_qtss admin+. So to change your files to match these parameters, execute (as sudo) the chmod command +chmod 644 <filename>+ as well as the chown command +chown _qtss:admin <filename>+. Now when you execute +ls -l+, you should find that the owner, group, and permissions for all the files are the same.
Once that is done, the rest is fairly straightforward per Apple's documentation. One thing I will say, as this burned me last night, is that if you change IPs, and you are also using the Web server component, things will get a bit funky. The files themselves will be fine, but QTSS will become unbound from whatever IP it was set to originally, and Web server will prevent it from starting. You'll have to re-bind QTSS to the appropriate IP (if your server is multihomed), re-enable streaming on port 80 if necessary, start QTSS, then start the Web server.
Good luck! Hopefully through my suffering you will suffer less.

Anyone know where we can submit suggested improvements to the QTSS Publisher app? It's nice, but could be so much better.

Where do i publish my app?

Hi ho, I wrote my small, tiny app, which I'd like to publish, public domain licence or GPL or maybe CC that only forces redistributers to tell my name, I'm not quite sure yet (I like GPL, but it should be a licence that's compatible with GPL AND creative commons).
Question is: WHERE DO I PUBLISH MY APP?
It's tiny, has a cool icon, improves life for a number of people and is easy to install and uninstall. It's completely German, too (user interface + code).
I don't feel like spending money on running a server where folks can download it. I don't want to earn money with this app, but I don't want to spend, either.

You should be able to host it on SourceForge. I don't know the details about what would be required, but that sounds like what you are asking for. Also, see about what (if anything) you need to do to get it published on Freshmeat too.

QuickTime (QTSS) Publisher

What happened to QuickTime (QTSS) Publisher in Leopard Server?
I am seeing conflicting information from Apple, most noticeably it is referenced on http://www.apple.com/quicktime/streamingserver/, yet it is absent from the 10.5 QT Streaming manual, images.apple.com/quicktime/pdf/QTStreamingTB.pdf. As far as I can tell, it is not included with a default Leopard Server install, nor is it available for download, nor is it on the admin tools disc.
Did it quietly disappear, and what is taking it's place?

QTSS Publisher has indeed been removed from 10.5 Server. I'm not sure what, if anything, Apple intends admins to use as a replacement.

DSS and QTSS Publisher

I installed DSS recently on my iMac 1.8GHz. After some minor problems, it works nicely now.
Well, I would like to have the playlists a little more "dynamic". I've been desperately looking for any software, that makes the editing of playlists easier. Editing them via the DSS interface is - well - annoying...
I found the QTSS Publisher and I thought to myself, well this might work. Unfortunately it doesn't. The application says "Server is not responding" and won't start.
I believe that QTSS publisher won't be able to work with DSS (unfortunately), but I would like to hear some other thinkings...
Anyone has a solution or suggestion for this issue? (In the worst case: just tell me that i'm right, and it won't ever work...)

Multi-author publishing of subprojects to server

I wanted to write this post to 1) clarify that what we are experiencing is the intended behavior of RoboServer 8 and 2) ask for advice on dealing with the issue in our multi-author environment.
Here's the situation. We have several RoboHelp authors, each of whom is reponsible for maintaining their own specific subprojects. These are rolled up into a master project, which is a specific author's responsibility to publish (I will call this person the Master Project Owner)
Initially, we had the workflow process set up so that the authors would publish their subprojects to the server on Thursdays, and the Master Project Owner would publish the master on Friday. The way this version of the server works, as we understood it initially, is that it knows to take the subproject output and copy it to the correct subfolder under "mergedProjects" on the server. We were thinking, "Great!" RoboServer has gotten smarter. We no longer (as in version 5 and 7), have to map the output to the master project\ssl\webhelp Pro\mergedProjects\<subproject> folder on the server anymore. And in fact, even if we did continue doing this, it wouldn't help matters BECAUSE....
What we painfully figured out through a lot of trial and error, is that actually, when the Master project is published, it takes the output from the local folders on the Master Project Owner's machine and pulls over the subproject files that are there! This means that unless the master project author first generates all of the subprojects himself (he doesn't publish, just generates), then the files that are copied to the server can be (and usually are) out of date. Even if the files previously published have a later date then the ones on the master project owner's local drive, it still copies them and overwrites the later versions! Yikes! Futhermore, publishing the subprojects to the server doesn't make any sence at all. They are just sitting there taking up space. They are not being pulled into the master project, as we thought they would be.
I really, really hope that I am mistaken (though my dozens of tests have supported my conclusion) because this completely removes the ability to work as independant authors and means all the generating and publishing has to be done by one person, or at least on one machine. This is not multi-author support as I see it.
Any other ideas on how we might engineer our process to deal with this?

Your situation is puzzling to say the least. On a few different levels.
You say that you are using RoboHelp Server, but go on to describe a typical Merged WebHelp output that would be achieved without having to use RoboHelp Server. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd like more information on why or how you decided on this approach. To my knowledge, you don't need a special folder setup for RoboHelp Server merging. All you do is publish projects to the server and the server sorts and handles this internally.
I'm wondering if your issue would be resolved by simply clearing any Merged TOCs from the Master TOC. I believe the presence of the Merged TOC references is what causes the "Merged Projects" folder to be created. So if you remove the references, that would make the Merged Projects folders disappear. This would then help by not having the older content present and overwriting the existing content.
At this point you are probably wondering how you will see the combined TOC if you remove the Merged references. Again, it is my understanding that the RoboHelp Server handles dynamically creating and presenting that to the user. So after you remove the references and get things all published accordingly, the magick of the RoboHelp Server should handle that aspect.

Where can I find the reports multitier server (reports 3.0)?

Can anyone please tell me where can I find the reports multitier
server 3.0.4.6.3?
When I try to install the reports 3.0.4.7.0 from the patch 0598
(pat0598.exe) it tells me that I must have installed the reports
multitier server 3.0.4.6.3. But I can't find it anywhere, not
even on the original installation CD.
I have on disk the file r30mts32.exe. Is this the so-called
reports multitier server? Is reports multitier server = reports
server = r30mts32.exe? If so, why is that error occurring?
Can someone please help me on this?

I agree and find it odd, but then, there is only the most rudimentary and superficial 'notes' -
iTunes 9 also includes many other improvements, such as HE-AAC encoding and playback, more flexibility with Smart Playlists rules, simpler organization of your media files inside an iTunes Media folder, and more.
Nothing like "fixed bug with using..."
