Where is Rosetta?

I have just done a clean reinstall of Snow Leopard and now want to reinstall my old Power PC Epson 1200 Perfection. As far as I understand I need Rosetta installed for it to work. I have loaded Rosetta from the SL disc but wonder how I can be sure it is installed. I'm sure 'Rosetta Installed' used to appear in the HD info panel but it isn't there now... can I check somehow? The problem is that although I have downloaded the Epson Scanner driver it doesn't appear in the Applications folder but it does appear in the System Manager. I have also tried dragging the scanner driver from my old back up into my new applications folder but still no luck. The scanner app simply bounces then shuts. Can any one help?
Matt

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm amazed that it is so complicated to work out something as simple as whether Rosetta is installed or not. What do you do with those lines of code... if I copy them what do I do with them then?
As far as I can tell though Rosetta is installed but the plot thickens. I have discovered the check box to open the driver download with Rosetta... right click the installer icon and 'open with Rosetta', still doesn't install anything in the Applications folder though. However if I open System Preferences the scanner shows in 'Print and Fax' where I can operate it from. I discovered this information from the Epson website:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supAdvice.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&note oid=166682&type=highlights
I now have a different somewhat neutered interface for my scanner which has lost its 'Professional' Mode which allowed histogram manipulation. In addition although the scanner runs I can't get a preview of the scanned item to appear. This is even more mysterious because prior to my reinstall the scanner operated beautifully with the full interface in 10.6.7
I know the scanner is ancient, but it works... or did .. and is a handy thing to have. So if anyone has any further thoughts I would love to hear them.

  • Lost iPhoto icon.

I have been trying to load Hotspot Shield for some time and it tells me that I need Rosetta. I read the box that comes up and it said to get my disks and load the optional applications. So, I put in the applications disk first and loaded it. MISTAKE! My iPhoto icon dissapeared. There is a question mark where it should be and if you scroll over it it says iPhoto but won't open. In my applications menu iPhoto is not there at all. Did I lose all my pictures or can I recover them somehow? Is there some way to restore like on a PC? I am new to MAC and I need help please.

I looked on teh applications dvd and iPhoto or iLife are not there. I installed that disk thinking that it was where the Rosetta was in the first place and that is were my problem happened. Then I put in the operations disk and went to the optional installs and found the Rosetta. After that I realized that my iPhoto icon was gone and replaced by a question mark. I paid the $15 and I am downloading the iPhoto program from the App Store now. It is taking an awful long time to download but I hope this works. I am in Okinawa Japan on a military assignment and I don't want to lose the pics of the place and my family here. I have been in tears trying to recover the pics. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and helping me. I tried clicking on the iPhoto library and it tells me that it doesn't have the program to open it.

  • Where do I get Rosetta

    Where do I get Rosetta?

    Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000184 EndHTML:0000004989 StartFragment:0000002572 EndFragment:0000004953 SourceURL:file://localhost/Users/pmacnak/Desktop/Document%202%20Mac%20Pro.doc
The Mac Pro was purchased on eBay as NIB (new in box) with OS 10.6.8 software installed.  Runs beautifully!  I confirmed through Apple support the computer was manufactured in March, 2011 but  no product registration was ever received by Apple, so an initial purchase date cannot be identifed.
Using the supplied install DVD, I have several times tried to install Rosetta, to no avail.  When trying to run a PPC app (MacEnvelope), I do not get a dialogue box requesting whether I want to install Rosetta, or just automatically installing Rosetta.  Instead I get the following dialogue box
"You can't open the application MacEnvelope because the Classic environment is no longer supported"
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Install disk misplaced - where can I download Rosetta?

Hello, Someone I work for didn't install rosetta when they install OSX 10.6 . I need to install an app that uses rosetta.  They've misplaced the install disk. The link I found to Rosetta redirects to a "Lion" page. Does anyone have a solution? I have a copy of the snow leopard install disk for my macbook pro (i'm not sure which model ofhand) - there's is a  MacBookPro6,2. If I have the same model could I install it off there? Is there anywhere to download?
    Many Thanks

bit & tmx3:  Apple's license to use Rosetta (a third party program) has expired, which is why their old links do not work.  That may be why it will not download automatically from the Internet when you attempt to use a PowerPC application in Snow Leopard or Leopard (although it still downloaded for me just a few weeks ago).
Alternative: get a new copy of the Snow Leopard Install DVD from Apple ($29 and free shipping as of May 23rd):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
If you are a member of MobileMe, login and they will offer you a free SL Install DVD.
Insert the DVD, open the Optional Installs folder, double-click the Optional Installs.mpkg.  Follow the prompts and check Rosetta and install.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Is it possible to run Rosetta with LION and if yes, where may i find it ?

J'ai mis en marche Lion et, malheureusement, je ne peux plus utiliser Go LIve, et Ragtime car ils tournaient sous Rosetta .
    Y a-t-il une solution ?

For these situations (Quicken Deluxe 2002, Microsoft Word/Excel 2004, Adobe Photoshop GS), I run Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) in Parallels 7 within Lion.  Installing it in French would be an interesting challenge!

  • I have a machine where only 1 user account cannot run Rosetta applications.

So Filemaker 6 and Office 2004 quit upon launch, but the rest of the applications are fine. I figured this was related to the earlier Security Update issue, but it turns out any other user is fine (new or existing). So it's specific to the one account. Now I don't see any Rosetta preferences, but might there be something else I am missing?

  • Where can I find various high level examples of workflows being used

I am about to start a project with TCS 3.5 and have been participating in the Adobe webinars to help learn components and specific techniques but what I am lacking is an understanding of various workflows I can model my project after or take bits from various sources. Why start with Framemaker in this workflow versus RoboHelp or even Word? Questions like this I think come from experience with the process and I am thinking that what I am getting myself into is a chessgame with all these pieces and don't want to paint myself into a corner by traveling down one route. I have seen this graphic:
    And this one:
    And this one:
But they are too generic and do not contain enough information to really understand the descision making process one must go through on various projects.
Can we have a series of webinars made, all with the underlining theme of defining a working process or workflow, by having guests describe how they have or are using this suite in real life on their own projects? One that might include a graphic showing the routes taken through the suite with reasons why?
My project hopes to make a single source internal site that will tie together various 3D portable industrial coordinate metrology systems (hardware and software). It would be used as a dispersal site for help, communications between users and SME, OEM information, QA requirements, established processes, scripting snipet downloads, statistics, and training (including SOJT). Portable industrial metrology has 8 different softwares that are used and right now about 8 different instruments. These include laser trackers and radars, articulated arms, scanners, structered white and blue light to name a few. The softwares include Spatial Analyzer, Veriserf, CompIT, eMscon, AXYZ to a few there as well. I want to be able to participate and add content to an internal Sharpoint site, push content to users for stand-alone workstations, ePub, capture knowledge leaving the company through attrition, develop easy graphic rich job aid sheets, and aid in evaluations of emergent software and hardware. I would also like to leave the option open to use the finished product as a rosetta stone like translator between the software packages; doing this is the equivelent of doing this in these other software pacages for example.

PDF is definately a format I want to include, to collaborate with other divisions and SME for one reason, but also for the ease in including 3D interactive target models with in it and portability. I plan on being able to provide individual PDFs that are very specific in their topics and to also use them to disperse user guides, cheat sheets or job aids... something the user may want to laminate on their own and keep with them for reference, printed out. Discussion in these sheets would be drasticly reduced to only the elements, relying heavely on bullet points or steps, usfull graphs, charts and tables... and of course illustrative images. I am thinking that these should be downloadable buttons to print on each topic section, not in a general apendix or such. They would hopefully be limited to one page, double sided 8x10.
The cheet sheet would have a simplistic flow chart of how or where this specific topic fits in the bigger picture,
    The basic steps,
    Illustrations, equipment, setup
Software settings for various situations in a table or chart,
Typical result graph to judge with,
Applicable QA, FAA regulation settings or concerns,
    Troubleshooting table,
    Topic SME contact info
On the back, a screen shot infographic of software process
The trouble here is that I have read that FM has a problem sometimes in succesfully transfering highly structured or formatted material to RoboHelp. Does this then mean that I would take it from FM straight to PDF?
Our OEM material is very high level stuff... basicly for engineers and not shop floor users... but that is not to say they don't have some good material that could be useful. Our internal content is spread out across many different divisions and continents, with various ways of saying the same thing. This leads QA to interpret the information differently depending where the systems are put to work. We also have FAA requirements that need to be addressed and reminded to the user.
Our company is starting to also see an exodus of the most knowledagble of the users through retirement. Capturing the knowledge and soft skill packages they have developed working here for 20-30 years is something I am really struggling with. I have only come up with two ideas so far:
    Internal User Web based Forum
Interviews (some SMEs do not want to make the effort in transfering knowledge by participating in anything if it requires an effort they don't see of benefit to themseleves), to get video, audio or transcription records

How do I download Mavericks OS to my MacBook Pro?  Where do I find it?  Thanks!

First... Check here to see if your Mac is compatible...
    http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/
If so... would recommend at least 4GB of RAM... if not 8 GB
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
    See Here  >  OWC RAM  >  http://www.macsales.com
The above site also has videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...
Also... Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

NOTE that Rosetta is no longer supported in Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion.

  • How to deactivate the rosetta option if it is not shown in information page

    Hi,
by accident or why ever I clicked the option "start with rosetta" on my eyetv.app. STRANGE now the option is no longer viewable in information field and I can't start the application inside of the application folder because I get then the message "EyeTV can't run under Rosetta-Emulation" please deactivate the Option via Menu Ablage and unmark the option. BUT I can't see this option in information field. AND if i try to start the eyetv.app in an folder outside of applications it works.
    Anyone an idea

    Hi,
thank you for the hint with command+i BUT THIS DOES NOT help of course, because I already wrote that I used this.
I solved it now in different way which leads to a general question that somewhere the osx seems to note versions of programs and how to open them.
Description of this issue now in detail:
    - I installed EyeTV in Version 3.0 on OSX 10.6 and started it.
    - a message appears that this program is not made for this OSX version (it was made for 10.5)
    - stupidly Elgato has no direct access to update from 3.0 to 3.1.2 which works with 10.6 WHICH means EyeTV has a buildin update BUT is useless if you can't start this app
    - OK this leads me to idea to enable the "Start with Rosetta option"
    - Didn't work
    - I took then an 3.1.2 Version from my TimeMachine Backup and copied it over the old ones
    - tried to start it and the message appear "This cannot run in Rosetta Mode"
    - HERE IT COMES the little option field where you can disable or enable Rosetta in the information of the eyetv 3.1.2 is not shown so I was unable to disable it of course
    - so i copied the file to a different directory and it works there normally
    - ..... AFTER 2 hours i remembered that I had set the "Start with Rosetta" option on version 3.0 and the Snow Leopard seems to have noted this somewhere and i need a trick to see this option and the only way is to use a version 3.0 file maybe the option will appear there again
    - ok copied Version 3.0 over the 3.1.2
    - AND AH the rosetta option appears and was enabled and I had here the possibility to disable or unmark it
    - then copy back the 3.1.2 Eyetv version file and AH it runs
So imagine that someone else uses today an application which really needs rosetta, and a user activates this and after some month a Snow Leopard 64bit version comes and nobody tells the user to deactivate the rosetta version on old package before installing new one.... poor user, I guess the 64bit version will tell the crap "This application can't run under rosetta" and the user will never find the way to disable it.
Hope there is a better way to find out for which application in which version was set the "start with rosetta" option in the system.
IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE let me know

  • Do I have Rosetta on my new Mac Mini?

I just purchased a new 1.83GHz Intel mini. The salesman in the Apple store said the mini no longer has Rosetta. There are several things which confuse me.
There are a number of posts about Intel minis, running OS 10.4.X, which suggest that they have Rosetta. How come?
If I don't have Rosetta, then why does Appleworks 6, imported from my G3 PB, running OS9.2, run on the mini (which it does)? Also, how would Quicken 2007, not Intel native, (which I am thinking of purchasing) run on my Intel mini?
Is Rosetta part of OSX or is it a firmware emulator?
    Thanks for any help.
    Owen

Not that I want to put you off using a piece of software you are used to and probably like pretty well (I'm a bit of an Appleworks fan), and I certainly don't want to suggest you pay for MS Office unless you have very good reason to need it, but there really is a great deal of difference in performance between non-native software such as Appleworks, when running on an Intel mini, and native (Intel) software. To give you an idea of what that's like, there is a free open source bundle of software called Neo Office which is MS Office compatible and Intel-native, and can be downloaded from http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/en/download.php where there is a link specifically for the Intel version.
Just in case you want to experience the difference!

  • I'm trying to utilize Rosetta Stone software but I cannot hook up my headset USB port they came with it what's the best solution

Trying to figure out how to use a headset with my MacBook Pro utilizing Rosetta Stone software that's already loaded on my laptops

if you work with own recorded sounds you might wanna have a music program where you want to work with samples, steinberg has got very good ones (so they say)... but their really really ( ²) expensive(that's why almost no one haves them), magix haves good ones too bu their more for 'unprofessional' use, ableton haves really good ones too and they're not to difficult to use (if you know a bit of those programs you learn very quickly) and if you don't get them, there is a sort of manual built in it which explains and lets you do things to start (basics)
i hope this helped, btw stereo speakers are always better if you buy good ones (no pc speakers), but if you don't think you need them, don't buy them...
so again, i hope you have some ideas now

  • Windows Media Player in Safari - Rosetta

There have been some videos embedded in web-sites that I have not been able to view with Safari. They are Windows Media videos that most often I have been able to access with Flip4Mac - a plug-in that translates the .wmv into QuickTime.
I now find that certain Windows videos can only be viewed when I disable Flip4Mac and go back to using Windows Media Player v. 9. However in order to do that, I have to use Safari in its Rosetta mode.
I've figured out how to do this. It's quite easy really. In case anyone is wondering: Go to Applications and Control Click on the Safari icon there. Open Get Information and check the Rosetta option. Re-start your computer and voilá - the video can now be rendered correctly. (Remember to disable Flip4Mac via System Preferences first.)
OK - but why is all this necessary? Can someone explain why doing this actually works, and how come some Windows media-made video clips are fine with the Flip4Mac conversion to QuickTime whereas others require this Safari Rosetta - WMP v.9 procedure? Moreover, besides trial and error, is there a way of knowing which method to use, when I see a link to a Windows Media video link in a web-site?
    Thanks in advance,
    ~ john

Just a follow-up. Since learning about how to run Safari in Rosetta mode - so simple really, just ctrl click on the Safari icon in the Application folder, Get Info, and as pointed out, check and de-select the Rosetta option as needed. I just want to add, that if some of you are also finding it difficult to run some Windows videos, ie .wmv - with Safari and Intel Macs, in addition to changing Safari to Roseta mode, you also need to de-select the Flip4Mac option from Systems Preferences to run those videos. Only then will Windows Media Player launch (using Rosetta Safari) and play the .wmv clips that are embedded in the webpage - and currently not viewable with Flip4Mac.
It's worked for me on countless sites I was having difficulty with before.
    Thanks everyone.

  • ITunes says it needs to install rosetta

All of the sudden, iTunes won't launch and Software Update says it needs to install Rosetta.  Never had to do that before.  Anyone know what's going on?  Could this be an issue created from the most recent update?

Instead of trying to update iTunes +from within iTunes+, go to Apple's page where you can download the iTunes 8.2.1 installation file -- save the file, don't run it direct from the download. Once downloaded to your computer, then run the installation file.
If that does not fix the problem, then remove the following software from your computer (you won't lose your music): iTunes, Quicktime, and something called "Apple Mobile Device Services". Once you remove those programs, then run the iTunes installer file (from above) again. That will install all three of these programs and should fix your problem.

I've just started to develop on a Mac and can't find help in Flex 3-- where is it?

Update to latest patched version that no longer relies on Rosetta and PowerPC
Visit www.RoaringApps.com for a list and table of what version is supported, can be updated and which are not.
A year ago this was news.
Hopefully people kept a boot drive with the old OS so they could dual boot for a month or two whiile sorting out the changes and updates.
