Where is Safari 6.0.2?

For awhile now I have not been able to do Software Updates via the Apple Menu Software Update. It shows me what software needs to be updated, but when I click on the "Install" button, I get this message: "None of the selected updates could be installed. A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again." (I get the same error message no matter what internet conection I'm at, no matter how fast it is).
But Software Update tells me what software NEEDS to be updated, so I go on the apple download site and download operating system updates, etc. Now I'm told that I need to update Safari from version 5.1.7 to version 6.0.2. But I can't find this version of Safari on the Apple download site at all. The most recent version I can find is the one I already have.
Why is Software Update telling me I have an opportunity to update Safari 6 if it's not on the applie software download page? (and if anyone can help with this cumbersome error message I always get in the auomatic Software Update process, I would appreciate that).

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Where does Safari store the full list of sites visited?

I have just started using Safari on my computer and noticed that it pulls down an immense list of site suggestions as soon as I start typing an URL. On closer inspection, these are all sites that I have visited in the past, with other browsers (IE and Mozilla/ Firefox).
Where did Safari go to get this information?
I usually set my browsers to auto erase of history, cookies, etc., so I wasn't aware that these records were being stored in my computer - and I sure would like to know where exactly.
Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to shed some light on this.

    Hi
I think the autofill information comes from your bookmarks (if you have cleared the history)

  • Where in Safari can I set applications?

Where in Safari can I set an application other than mail to use the mailto command?
In Firefox this is done in Preferences > Applications tab , scroll down t the mailto and change the application asigned to that function from Mail to Gmail causing mailto links on webpages to open gmail in a browser rather than using the Mail app.
I cannot find anything similar in Safari.

I don't want to change it system wide.
I only want to change it for Safari and I only want the change to apply to mailto links not other functions.
Sounds like Apple needs to work on the functionality a bit. I will submit a feature request through the form.

  • Where is safari?  it does not show up in my tool bar?

where is safari?  when I downloaded Mavericks it disappeared from my tool bar.

    Hi steve0393,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I think you are asking about Safari not showing up on the Dock in Mavericks?
If that is the case, you can drag Safari from the Applications folder to the Dock.

  • Safari History Location - where does Safari store its history? (unfortunately I deleted it when running CCleaner...)

Safari History Location - where does Safari store its history? (unfortunately I deleted it when running CCleaner...) Now I would like to restore it via Time Machine

    Hi..
If you deleted your Safari history, you may not be able to restore using TM but give this a try...
    Go to    ~/Library/Safari
    Look for the History.plist file.
Best to not use third party utlities such as CCleaner. They tend to do more harm than good.

  • Where is Safari 7 History Stored in Mavericks

I could not find this in the discussions.
Is safari 7 History stored in an external file in Mavericks?  If so, what is the file name and where is it located?

    I must be missing something.
I went to Macintosh HD, clicked on Users, then clicked on my User, then held the option key and no Library folder showed up.
I also tried holding the option key and then clicking on my User and got the same result.

  • Where are Safari 1.x bookmarks, I need to backup bad system in FW Disk Mode

My friend has a PowerBook G4 with a pretty corrupt OS 10.3 on it. I'm praying I'll be able to get it started in FireWire Target Disk Mode so I can backup files, then I'll re-install the OS.
Where would I find Safari 1.x bookmarks? Can I just copy a file to backup the bookmarks and possibly later restore them?
(I'm a tech-y person so feel free to give me complicated instructions, I'll probably understand them)

    Hi Jason,
You can find the Bookmarks in the following location.
    Home_Folder>Library>Safari Folder>Bookmarks.plist
You can put it on a USB stick or when it is still possible to sent the file in a folder to a e-mail address, for instance your e-mail. Later when everything is working well again you can sent it back to your friend an swap the Bookmarks.plist file with the one that is in the NEW installed system.
    Good luck ...

  • Where is Safari's shortcut icon cache?

I have created a web page with a "shortcut icon", that little icon to the left of the URL in the address bar. However, I didn't like the design and modified the icon.
Now it seems impossible to make Safari understand that there is a new icon. I have emptied all caches I could think of, and I have deleted files manually from <myuser>/Library/Application Support and Preferences. Still that icon remains as it was.
The problem is somewhere with my main user account. If I log in with a different MacOS account, the new icon is there in all its humble glory.
Does anyone know where this kind of information could be stored?

I have created a web page with a "shortcut icon"
These icons are called "favicons". Sometimes, just clearing your cache and reloading your page will get your revised favicon to appear. Sometimes simply reloading the page will do it. The last time I worked on my favicon, reloading the page worked for me, but others have said it did not work for them.
Deleting the icons cache is the most extreme measure, but will do the trick and the favicons will reappear as you visit web sites.

  • Where does Safari save pix it uses for Cover Flow?

I am scrolling through Cover Flow in Safari 4.0 and I wanted to know where it saves the pictures I see in the previews. Is it saved in a Jpeg somewhere that I can access and view or some other format that I can't?
    Thanks.

.DS_Store files only track where thing are positioned on your system; they aren't caching anything.
I would have said that too, since as far as I know Finder doesn't keep any thumbnail caches. But the fact is that the first time you open a folder full of images without built-in thumbnails in icon view it takes a noticeable amount of time for Finder to draw them, but in subsequent openings they do indeed seem to appear as quickly as if they did have thumbs. I did a bit of experimenting and deleted the .DS_Store file in such a folder, and Finder did have to redraw the thumbs when I opened the folder later, and recreated the .DS_Store file. However, the file just isn't big enough to be a thumbnail cache. I would guess it does include some sort of instruction to the Finder about thumbs, but doubt it includes any actual thumbnails.
However, in my case this speediness does NOT persist through a restart.

So I deleted it......deleted it from everywhere
NOW.....i go to Safaris website and EVERYTHING i see is for Windows
    its all .exe files
where is the good old .dmg file
i just want to bring Safari back, but i cant find the appropriate file.
    thanks in advance

    Hi
The dock icon may be corrupt. Try opening Safari from your Applications folder. If it works there, go back to the dock and remove the Safari icon. Then, single-click on Safari.app in the Applications folder and drag it to the dock.
Also, important to "repair permissions" after reinstalling Safari via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • Where's Safari?

My safari address bar was impossible to read, so I trashed it, which I probably shouldn't have. I was hopong to re-install is via my OSX install discs. I can't find Safari using Spotlight or Finder. It's not on my dock either.
I thought Safari is a native application and part of the bundled software. Safari upgrade 2.0.1 can't be installed. I get some sort of error message about my 10.4.5 version won't allow it.
So how do I go about re-installing Safari? Thanks for thge help.

I have 2 install discs that came with my iBook G4. One has most everthing for OSX installations in cluding OSX and bundiled software. There's a seperate folder for just the bundled software. The other disc is mostly for OS9. Nowhere on either disc is there a Safari folder or application, which can be installed or re-installed on it's own.
I have no idea what or where Pacifist is. It doesn't exist on my discs or in any utility folders.
I'm greatly curious about this. My firefox works perfectly with all meida players, and haven't had one problem with it. I just wonder where Safari is. It's not in my document or library folders either.
I'd still like to install Safari, although I'm beginning to wonder why, when Firefox does the job. Any ideas where Safari is located?

Any way I can combine my Apple/AppleStore and my DotMac personnas????
I trust only if Dotmac & your Applestore /AppleID user name [s] are the same.Quoted from Your Apple ID Account page.
In as far as KC- Even if both username ID are the same they do not share just one keychain item, (as I see in my KC) I believe that is b/c the Url/ addresses are different, if that is what you meant, combining the persona KC.

  • Where are Safari Bookmarks Saved for Restore?

I need to backup and reinstall MAC OS X but I have no idea where all my bookmarks from Safari are stored so I can be sure I don't lose them.
    Thank You
    Patrick

    Hello patrick:
In answer to your question, I "think" they are in your home folder (~library>safari.... bookmarks.plist). However, I have never tested that premise.
If I were you, I would do an archive and install:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
An A&I will install a fresh OS X while preserving your files, programs, and settings. A backup of everything is always a good idea before any software changes.
IMHO, there is almost NO reason to do an erase and install.

  • Where are safari bookmarks stored

need to locate  where in the system Safari stores the bookmarks file.

You're right, AndyBall, I'd forgotten that one... Though plist files aren't easy to decrypt, and usually need Xcode installed to edit, this is where bookmarks settings are stored.
Antonio, most of what you want to do with your bookmarks (edit names, URLs, delete them, etc...) can be done directly from Safari. What do you need to do with your bookmarks, exactly?
