Where is Safari's shortcut icon cache?

I have created a web page with a "shortcut icon", that little icon to the left of the URL in the address bar. However, I didn't like the design and modified the icon.
Now it seems impossible to make Safari understand that there is a new icon. I have emptied all caches I could think of, and I have deleted files manually from <myuser>/Library/Application Support and Preferences. Still that icon remains as it was.
The problem is somewhere with my main user account. If I log in with a different MacOS account, the new icon is there in all its humble glory.
Does anyone know where this kind of information could be stored?

I have created a web page with a "shortcut icon"
These icons are called "favicons". Sometimes, just clearing your cache and reloading your page will get your revised favicon to appear. Sometimes simply reloading the page will do it. The last time I worked on my favicon, reloading the page worked for me, but others have said it did not work for them.
Deleting the icons cache is the most extreme measure, but will do the trick and the favicons will reappear as you visit web sites.

How do I put a Shortcut Icon on my Desktop linking to a certain Webpage, like I could do with I.E./Google? Where do I find "Create Shortcut' ???

    Hey, Dynamite !
Thanks so much for that ... what a 'dynamite' solution. It's so easy. I don't know how you people know all of these things ! But one last thing if you can help me - I've just switched over to Mozilla/Firefox from I.E., and now I cannot open my Hotmail from Mozilla/Firefox. I log in, it goes to my 'Inbox' page, but when I click on an Email letter to open it, nothing happens. I can't even go into 'Drafts' or 'Delete' or anything.

  • Where are iPhoto library, iTunes, Safari bookmarks, desktop icons...?

When installing Leopard, my main internal "Macintosh HD" (where all my programs are loaded) didnt show as an option, so I installed on my secondary HD. Leopard runs OK from here, BUT, I cant find my iPhoto library, iTunes, Safari bookmarks, desktop icons, and the programs in the dock no longer show. Any advice?

Sadly, this is still an issue.
I guess plan A would be to find all the settings I am now missing and point the various programs to them. Though not sure how to do either of those things.
If this is difficult, then plan B is to "boot back into ...Tiger drive" and reload Leopard in drive bay 1 as originally intended. Again, not sure how to do that - and why it didnt work the first time.
Pls let me know if you think this is the right plan, and if so, what would the steps required look like.

  • Where is the "reading list" icon in Safari 8.0.4?

Where is the "reading list" icon in Safari 8.0.4? I need to put it in my menu bar but I can't seem to find it in "Customise toolbar" or "Prefs"

OK, your are looking for "Add to Reading List" button.
It is available by default but hidden.
Move the mouse pointer to the very left in the Safari address bar, a "+" sign in a circle will appear.
Click it to add an item to Reading list.

  • Java 7u13 win8 shortcut icons still appear to be broken

As Woodiw1563768 pointed out in July of 2012, the Java Web Start (JAWS) desktop shortcut icon on Windows 8 appear to be broken[0]. When you provide a custom icon the shortcut appears as a blank paper instead of as your icon or the default web start icon. This is still happening in February of 2013.
Windows 8 is "officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10" [1] and bug 2230144 claims this issue should be fixed as of Java 7 Update 12 (7u12) [2], but when I tested with the latest version from java.com, 1.7.0_13 (7u13) my icons are still broken for applications which work with the same version of Java on earlier versions of Windows. Can anyone else confirm this? It would be handy to have a public JNLP file that normally installs icons that we can all test against. The one in the bug report appears to be missing or only internal.
As noted in bug 7182795 [3], the issue appears to be some Windows security conflict with the use of LocalLow as the cache directory where JAWS icons are stored.
I am having trouble figuring out how to comment on bug 2230144 to indicate that it still appears to be broken.
Is there any way to work around this bug? (Besides not using web start or not relying on the desktop shortcuts.)
I have tested setting the icon path manually, but every time the JNLP file is updated, and sometimes on every launch, the shortcut is deleted and re-created, reverting back to the broken icon.

  • I lost my safari and mail icons.  How can I get them back in the screen?

I lost my safari and mail icons on the ipad screen.  How can I get them back or where can I find them?

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for them, and do they show on the iPad's spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right and type in Safari or Mail) ?
Safari can be hidden via Settings > General > Restrictions > Safari being 'off', so you could check that as well.
If you still can't find then try a reset and see if you can find them after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot
There is also Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout which will reset the layout of your apps and might make it easier to find them.

  • IOS Safari missing webpage icons

Something that has annoyed me since iOS 7 launched (both iPad and iPhone) is that the Safari "new tab" page, which shows icons for favorite bookmarks, shows only generic gray or colored icons with the safari logo for certain websites rather than the sites' favicons. Is there a way to force iPad and iPhone to load the favicon for the bookmarks? Or am I stuck with looking at the gray icons?

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab.
Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens
All of those icons are gone either when loading a website (i.e. if I go to google's homepage, the "G" is missing in the URL bar) and all of the icons are missing from my bookmarks.
    Webpage icons can get corrupted.
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
The tilde "~" character represents your home folder.
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Why did FF desktop shortcut icons change over to IE icons?

I am running Windows XP. For weeks i have looked for a solution with no luck. I use Firefox and occasionally drag and drop shortcuts to web pages that i want to revisit at a later time. For some reason, the shortcuts no longer carry the Firefox symbol. They all changed to Internet Explorer symbol and also open with Internet Explorer now. Even when browsing with Firefox now, i will drag a shortcut and as soon as i drop it, it changes to IE. Do you have any idea why this happened all of a sudden? Thanks

You can check for issues with the Windows icon cache and try to rebuild the icon cache.
    # Open the Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+ESC)
    # In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
    # Open the file picker via "File > New Task (Run)" and click the Browse button.
    # Type or Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local (%LocalAppData%) in the File name field (AppData is a hidden folder).
    # Select the IconCache.db file and use "Delete" in the right-click context menu to delete the file.
    # After the IconCache.db file has been deleted, start a new explorer.exe process via "File > New Task" to get the desktop and Taskbar back.
The IconCache.db file is a hidden file, so make sure that you can see hidden files.

Thank you cor-el. I have tried what you have suggested, and also tried re-naming another file in the same directory GDFONTCACHE1.DAT which I beleive has a similar function, but none of these combinations will produce an Internet shortcut icon.

    javaws -shortcut -system -import http://localhost:7001/uif/uifTestClient.jnlp
WebStart imported the App into system cache alright but it failed to create the shortcut. Also the Java Cache Viewer shows the shortcut icon disabled.

WebStart imported the App into system cache alright
but it failed to create the shortcut. ..

I see the from the guide here..
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/javaws/developersguide/javaws.html#options
    "-shortcut

However there is no mention of '-silent' in your
    command above.
