Where is save as feature in Lion ?

I understand that in Mountain Lion (10.8), Save-As is back - but it is a HIDDEN feature. To be honest, I never got used to the Duplicate function in Lion, so I am thrilled that this may be back - it was in the beta version of Mountain Lion.
Do a Google search to find the article that discusses this - if I recall, I read it on Gizmodo. Once you find it, I think you can turn it on so that Save-As is a permanent feature, or one accessible via the Control or Option keys.
Best of luck! I am thrilled!

  • "Always ask me where to save files" does not work.

Summary: The "Always ask me where to save files" feature does not work. No dialog box comes up, apparently because the browser is stuck on a bad old read-only lastDir location, in a prefs.js file that I can't edit.
    Details:
I am using Firefox 30.0 on Mac OS 10.6.8. My Mac has a both a read/write Mac partition that I use most of the time, and a bootcamp Windows partition drive ("C"), which I can read but not write to.
At some point I accidentally tried to download a file from a site, using Firefox, to the read-only Windows C drive. Ever since that time, I have not been able to download any files from Firefox, except to the firefox/downloads folder. This is inconvenient. If, in preferences, I try to set downloads to ""Always ask me where to save files", the dialog box does not come up when I actually try to save files. This problem does not apply to saving photos by right-clicking them.
If I open, in text-edit, mozilla/firefox/profiles/t4vockvue.default/prefs.js, which was saved yesterday, I can see a problematic line. It reads:
    user_pref("browser.download.lastDir", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\[etcetc]");
C:\\Documents and Settings\\[etcetc] being the read-only windows directory.
This prefs.js is apparently not an editable file.
I tried to fix this by opening a browser tab in Firefox and opening about:config. The editable browser.download.lastDir does NOT show the same "lastDir"....it shows some directory that I successfully downloaded photos to, by right-clicking on a photo.
How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks.

To confirm which profile folder is active when you are running Firefox, it is easiest to open it from inside Firefox as follows:
Sometimes the file that stores the customizations becomes corrupted and fails to update properly at the end of your session. You can rename the file and customize from scratch.
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show in Finder" button (Windows: "Show Folder" button).
Hopefully you are using a separate profile folder on each OS.

  • Where did the "save as" feature go?

I just opened up a Pages document, after my Lion upgrade.  I want to use the orginal document, make changes and save as a new document.  However, when I clicked on "File" to go to the "Save As," I discovered it is no longer there.  Where is the "Save As" feature now.  This is, obviously, a crucial need.

In most cases, though, you don't need a separate file.  Just make a Version with Cmd+S.
Much faster, and takes up much less space, since it only saves the changes, not the whole document.
As a work machine processing files, folders, and graphics, in many cases I do, everyday.
Changing file name and format and still have the original to work with.
    Seems crazy to me.

  • Where is "save as" or how to change file type in Preview in Lion?

Where is "save as" or how to change file type in Preview in Lion? I used to use Preview to change quickly change a lot of PNGs to either JPEGs or PDFs but with the introduction of versions auto save etc there no "save as" in the File menu. Any suggestions how to get this functionality back or how to get around it within OS X (no Photoshop etc)?

Just wasted 15 minutes looking for that.  What's wrong with Save As?

  • Where is Mosaic screensaver in mountain lion

Hoe can I get the mosaic screen saver in New mountain lion? It was the only one I liked and the new ones now are just plain crap. Is there anyway to get it back or can I purchase it? And if so where?

I have not figured it out either. I share your pain. I used mosaics as my only screensaver in Lion and before, and more than any other feature it cause envy by any Windows users who saw it in action.  PLEASE, PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

  • How to save multiple attachments in Lion Mail?

In Snow Leopard Mail, I can save multiple attachments to my Downloads folder with one click. In Lion Mail, I see no way to save attachments except by right-clicking on them one at a time. I must be missing something. Information appreciated.

I believe you are missing something. I'm not on my Mac right now but there should be a setting where to save attachments and also muiltiples at one time.

  • Save As feature in JSP

    Hi there,
I have a JSP where the user needs to be shown a dialog box onclicking the "Browse" button (like the "Save As" feature on browser right click).
Currently the way I have it is that I have used Input type="file" in my form in the JSP.
But the problem is that this will not allow non-existing new filenames to be entered.
But the good thing was that I didnt have to program anything for the MS window to browse the filesystem.
Is there something like this for "Save as" or do I have to explicitly program for this.
    I'd really appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is there an app where it saves your photo shortly after onto the web/online after taking a picture?

Is there an app where it saves your photo shortly after onto the web/online after taking a picture? In essense, I want to be able to take a picture with the stock camera app on the Iphone 4 and have it saved immediately online after...without hooking it back onto a computer...completely automatic and wireless/using internet data.
    Thanks very much.

If you're running iOS 5.1 or later you could use Photo Stream.  See http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486.  It will upload up to 1000 photos to iCloud.com for 30 days.

  • Where is "Save as" in Pages '09 v. 4.1?

Where is "save as" located in Pages '09 v. 4.1?

T'his failed to solve my problem.  There is no "save" in Lion.
Yes, there is, but only for a previously unsaved document, whether a new document or a copy made with duplicate. Once the file has been saved the command in the File menu changes to Save a Version.

  • I can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

i can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

Yes you do - it is found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
It is the domain.sites folder that you want and the iWeb folder is NOT in your System Library, but rather your User Library - that's the one with the house.
Depending on what OS you are using - from Lion upwards, your User Library is invisible, so to make it visible, go to the Go menu and hold down the 'alt' key at the same time and your Library will show - then go to Application Support and the iWeb folder is there with your domain.sites file in it.  Double click on this file to open it and iWeb will.

  • I deleted my download folder and now I can't download anything. I can't select the folder to "save file to" and when I select "ask me where to save files" I still can't download. it says your file will start downloading, but then it doesn't. Help!!

I deleted the folder that saves everything that is downloaded from Firefox. After that I can't download anymore. I've tried clearing my download history, reset the download folder, reset the download action by renaming the mimetype.rdfs file and it's still not working. I've tried to choose a different download folder but it doesn't let me select any folder at all. If I select "ask me where to save files" and then try and download something, the download doesn't start after I select save to. The only time it does actually download is when I select "open with...windows mediaplayer" when downloading then the download will start. Please help. Thank you.

You broke your phone by getting it wet.  Nothing more to say.  Bring it in to Apple for an out of warranty exchange or buy a new phone.  There's really nothing else we users here can help you with.

  • When downloading a large file, like a movie Internet Explorer automatically provides one with the choice of where to save it - e.g. "C" drive, but Firefox doesn't. How can it be done?

When downloading a large file, like a movie, Internet Explorer automatically opens a download window offering the choice to "Open" or "Save"the file. This provides one with the choice of where to save it - e.g. "C" drive, in the "My Documents" or "Desktop" folders but Firefox's download window doesn't. This has always frustrated me because I would rather use Firefox exclusively to access the Internet, but when it comes to saving files downloaded off the Internet, sadly, I have to revert to IE!

If you click on Firefox from the upper-left, then Options, a new window should appear. On that window, click on the general tab. In the middle of the window, you'll see options regarding your downloads, one of which says, "Always ask me where to save files." Click on the bubble for this options, then click Ok. From then on, you should always be prompted on where you want your files saved.

  • I just want the option to "save as" when downloading a file so I can choose where to save it. Right now, I go back to my Internet Explorer to do this.

I changed my setting to "always ask where to save files" and I went into my profile folder and deleted my preference folder.

Did you check the download settings?
*Tools > Options > General : Downloads : "Always ask me where to save every file"

  • "Save as" dialog box doesn't come up, even though I have "Always ask me where to save files" selected (email attachments)

Recently, the "save as" dialog box quit appearing when I attempt to download email attachments. I have the "always ask me where to save files" box checked in the tools/options/general/downloads area. The box still appears when I use Chrome, but not when I use Firefox.

    Hello,
Can you please follow these steps and provide the value for the configuration 'browser.download.useDownloadDir'
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''', to continue to the about:config page.
Can you please provide the values for the following keys
    #browser.download.useDownloadDir
    #browser.download.lastDir
    Thank you
