Yes, there is, but only for a previously unsaved document, whether a new document or a copy made with duplicate. Once the file has been saved the command in the File menu changes to Save a Version.

Trouble choosing a save folder in pages
I'm having trouble choosing where to save a new pages file.
I choose Save As and then enter the folder name I'm looking for into the search window.
But the resulting folder names are greyed out so I can't choose them. Any solutions?Pages '09 will remember the last folder location of the previously saved document. If you quit Pages and restart it, the open dialog presents the folder and last file(s) you saved there.
If you want the search feature to work on save as, you need to switch into the indicated Finder mode. Here I am searching for a folder (test-folder) that is two-levels deep in my home directory.
The folder is found, and displays the files already located in it. Now all I have to do is name the file and press Save. No preferences were harmed in this demonstration. -
Saving a Pages document: when I first save a pages document it saves and I don't know where it goes or what its name is. I want to be asked every time I save a pages document what to name it and where to save it. How do I set this preference?
I'll guess that you've used a page layout document & pasting created a text box. You can add more pages & create linked text boxes, but I think you'd be better of using a word processing document. In word processing documents there is a basic text layer & additional pages will be created as needed to fit the text. Take a look at the toolbar of your document. If it says "sections" for the +page icon it's a word processing document, if it says "pages" it's a page layout document.

The bookmarks toolbar will not open the folders. It just saves the current page at the end of the the bookmarks list.Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

"Always ask me where to save files" does not work.
Summary: The "Always ask me where to save files" feature does not work. No dialog box comes up, apparently because the browser is stuck on a bad old read-only lastDir location, in a prefs.js file that I can't edit.
Details:
I am using Firefox 30.0 on Mac OS 10.6.8. My Mac has a both a read/write Mac partition that I use most of the time, and a bootcamp Windows partition drive ("C"), which I can read but not write to.
At some point I accidentally tried to download a file from a site, using Firefox, to the read-only Windows C drive. Ever since that time, I have not been able to download any files from Firefox, except to the firefox/downloads folder. This is inconvenient. If, in preferences, I try to set downloads to ""Always ask me where to save files", the dialog box does not come up when I actually try to save files. This problem does not apply to saving photos by right-clicking them.
If I open, in text-edit, mozilla/firefox/profiles/t4vockvue.default/prefs.js, which was saved yesterday, I can see a problematic line. It reads:
user_pref("browser.download.lastDir", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\[etcetc]");
C:\\Documents and Settings\\[etcetc] being the read-only windows directory.
This prefs.js is apparently not an editable file.
I tried to fix this by opening a browser tab in Firefox and opening about:config. The editable browser.download.lastDir does NOT show the same "lastDir"....it shows some directory that I successfully downloaded photos to, by right-clicking on a photo.
How can I fix this problem?

Sometimes the file that stores the customizations becomes corrupted and fails to update properly at the end of your session. You can rename the file and customize from scratch.

Hopefully you are using a separate profile folder on each OS. -
Recently, the "save as" dialog box quit appearing when I attempt to download email attachments. I have the "always ask me where to save files" box checked in the tools/options/general/downloads area. The box still appears when I use Chrome, but not when I use Firefox.

Cant I save a web page with its pictures in safari?

when i used save as... to save a web page, it can only save the page as text only, is there any way to save text and the pictures as well.
im using safari 1.3.1 in os 10.3.9You can only save a page with images in Safari 2.x which comes with OS X 10.3.x. For earlier versions you can go to Print > Save as PDF to capture and image of the page. You can use Firefox or Camino to save a page in standard html format along with a folder of images. This method allows you to view the page with any browser whereas Safari's webarchives can only be viewed in Safari.

Keep getting the message, this document too old can't be opened, save it with Pages '09 first? I recently purchased the new Pages, yellow Icon. My old Pages was '08. My new Pages doesn't say what it is except the version 5.0.1. Where do I get version '09 to save all my of Pages docs. so I can open them. Or do I just keep my old '08 version active and open them through it?
You can use iWork 08 on MacOs Mavericks for the PAges 08 documents. If you eally need to have them in Pages 5 you can try in Pages 08 save the document as/export to Word format and then open in Pages 5.
I would just continue using iwork 08. PAges 5 is a mess. -
why when i save my indesign file down to an earlier version does it only save the first page of my document?

I am trying to save as in pages and that is not an option. When I save to the cloud (the default) and try to attach document to email, the email cautions me that the file is empty. Can you direct me to resource for this challenge?

I'm not sure where to begin. In Lion, and also in Mountain Lion, making a copy of a document is most easily done by clicking on the Document Name at the top of the Pages Window and Selecting Duplicate.
If you are looking for "Save As" because you want to change the file type, choose File > Export instead.
If you don't really need iCloud and don't care to spend time tring to figure out what is causing the null files, just turn off Documents in iCloud preferences and your options for saving in Pages will revert to just showinng the local drives.
Some people have troubles exporting as a PDF Mail attachment. If works, but again, if you don't want to work through the issues that might be prevenging it, simply Print > PDF > Save as PDF and then attach the PDF file to your separately created email.
Have I come close to addressing your challenge? If you can help me to understand the motivation I may be able to focus in a bit.

INM Impressario - prompt user to choose where to save
Hi all,
I have created a PDF from a template on the fly, and I want to prompt the user to choose a folder where they can save the PDF which has been created from template.
With jpegs I have used BUDDY API, but I have not had much luck using BUDDY API with INM Impressario, can you suggest a way I can do this, and also if there are any known issues with Buddy API and Impressario.

The way my movie works is that, you can navigate through lots of different products which contain, images, synospsis and lots of other data which are changed dynamically as the user selects a different product.
Then if the user wants to have a hard copy of all the data on the product page they are on, they click the 'download pdf' button, at that point Impressario creates the PDF from a template using the assets already loaded into the product page.
At the moment I am able to specify where to save it using the 'savefromTemplate' function of impressario.
When I try and use Buddy API I dont get any error message, but I dont get any PDF either -
I can't save documents in Pages.
I can't save documents in Pages. I get a "file does not exist" error message. I've tried changing the file name, length, and location. To no avail. This is only sporadic.

I have a similar problem although I'm running OSX 10.9.5. I'v just started to completely remove pages and attempt a reinstall. I did the search for the plist file. There was only one file with the com.apple.iwork.pages name but it did not have the .plist extension, even when I checked the info page. Is this the same file?
I'm not sure I want to update to Yosemite yet, but it looks like I may have to in order to continue to work with my pages documents, unless the reinstall works. -
I deleted the folder that saves everything that is downloaded from Firefox. After that I can't download anymore. I've tried clearing my download history, reset the download folder, reset the download action by renaming the mimetype.rdfs file and it's still not working. I've tried to choose a different download folder but it doesn't let me select any folder at all. If I select "ask me where to save files" and then try and download something, the download doesn't start after I select save to. The only time it does actually download is when I select "open with...windows mediaplayer" when downloading then the download will start. Please help. Thank you.

Pages 5.1 error "This document is too old. To open it, save it with Pages '09 first."
When trying to open a Pages '08 file from a MacBook Pro in Pages 5.1 on an iMac, I get thr error message, "This document is too old. To open it, save it with Pages '09 first". I cannot locate a Pages '09 to use. I can export the file from Pages '08 into a Microsoft Word Doc file and can open it then. How I do I solve the problem and open files in Pages 5.1?
It is A solution that works if you don't have too many Page files to convert, but is very poor solution if trying to move everything off of the MacBook Pro to the iMac. I don't necessarily need to open the 5 years of files, but if I need to look at something archived, I'm dead in the water.
It doesn't make sense that a Mac can open a Microsoft product but cannot open a Mac product. I can understand that a program is not forward compatibale, but almost all programs are backward compatible. This same problem appears with Numbers 3.1.
Apple needs Microsoft as a solution? -
Changing Default Save Location in Pages?
Recently moved my wife from Microsoft Word to Pages in Lion
All her work docs have been in Word (saved to many different particular folders in Dropbox)
Whenever she opens in pages and edits I would like it to save back to the same folder it was edited from (and ideally overwite the old Word document as a 'default save option' is that possible?
At the moment the default save is to "Documents" and you have to navigate back to the old folder manually and save new pages document. Then you have to back to finder and deleting the original Word document (otherwise duplicates with same name just without the .doc ending). It is a very awkward workflow which I know will drive her nuts and is open to easy errors of her filing

NicWhen you open a Word document with Pages, you are in the same condition than when you create a new document from a template.
There is no path linked to the created document so, the save dialog will default to the late folder used to save.
I assume that there is at least one third party tool allowing us to behave differently but I don't know which one.
Here is a short script which may help.
It doesn't treat several docs at a time.
Just use it to open a Word document. The script will be aware of the original document so it will be able to save automatically a Pages version in the source folder.
If a Pages document with the same stripped name than the Word doc already exists, the new Pages document will be date_time stamped :
In such case, azerty.doc will be not be saved as azerty.pages but as azerty_20110819_165721.pages
