Where is Setup Assistant in 10.3???

I bought Panther retail version 10.3 and it does not have the Setup Assistant in the Utilities folder??? I need to Firewire my old Hard drive data to transfer. Where can I get the Setup Assistant??
Thanks!!! ~Craig

Two different assistants have come with Mac OS X at various times: the Setup Assistant and the Migration Assistant.
The Setup Assistant is installed with all Mac OS X versions; it lives in the /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder, and walks you through the process of entering basic configuration details and setting up your user account. It cannot import data from another machine.
The Migration Assistant comes with Tiger; some people who got Panther with a new Mac also got a copy of this assistant. It can import settings and user data from another computer connected through FireWire, a hard disk connected to the machine, and from a different partition. In all cases, Mac OS X must be installed on the source partition. This assistant is located in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder on systems which include it.

  • Setup Assistant: Where IS the darned thing?

    I just had the guys at the Genius Bar update the OS on my iMac from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard, and then updated it to 10.6.5. Rather than stick around the busy Macstore to get things configured, I opted to take the machine home and do it there, using the Setup Assistant as the store guy recommended. But where is the darned thing? I can't find it in my Applications or in my Utilities, and I only get lots of mystery files when I search using Spotlight, and I'd rather not open things blindly. So I guess I have two questions;
    1. How do I find it and open it?
    2. Do I even need to, if I was happy with the settings I had in 10.5.8?

Actually, it's a complicated story involving a failed hard drive, a failed optical drive, and an OS upgrade that didn't happen the first time around, but I think the end result was, effectively, a simple upgrade.
So that takes care of that! Thank you.

  • Where is the setup assistant on my new iphone5?

Where is te setup assistant on my iphone5?

Yes.  If you want to save anything, you'll have to do that first.  You can, for example, import your camera roll photos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  Your recent texts will can be archived by taking screenshots and importing the photos, but it isn't possible to save them and sync them back to your phone after restoring the backup.

i downloaded lion but lost the setup assistant.  please help me recover the setup assistant.  i do not know where/how to find/enter information in the terminal as was suggested.

Launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.   Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm.
Reboot. The Setup Assistant will launch.

  • HT4859 When setting up my new phone, the setup assistant didn't appear. Where do I find "restore from back up?"

When setting up my new phone, the setup assistant didn't appear.  Where can I find the "restore from icloud back up" option so I can transfer all my information?

You have to erase the phone an go back through the setup again.  Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go back through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • HT4859 Where is the setup assistant found?

I have a new iPad and want to restore from my last iCloud backup. I cannot figure out where to start!  Help?

    It's here:
How to restore from a backup
You have to erase it first:
... Complete the setup assistant after erasing your device (by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings) or after starting your new device. When prompted to set up as new or to restore from previous backup, choose to restore from iCloud backup. Then enter your AppleID and password.

  • After Crash: Mail opens to setup assistant, Where is everything?

I shutdown and rebooted my computer after it did not want to take my password; the keyboard wasn't responding. Mail was open at the time I did this and after rebooting, when I open Mail it give me the setup assistant! In Library/Mail everything that should be there is there, my folders, my accounts... why is Mail not seeing this info and not opening it correctly? What happened? I can't see anything in the log and repairing disk permissions didn't work.
I have a back-up but it's at least a month old, maybe more. Seeing as my files are in the Library, I don't understand why Mail isn't working correctly.
Any help is appreciated as I am seriously freaking out.
    Thank you!

What happened is that, probably as a result of what you did, Mail discarded the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and created a new one. This file is where all the account settings (but not the messages themselves) are stored. As a result, all your non-.Mac account settings are lost.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
    You have three options now:
    (1) Restore com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your non-.Mac accounts in Mail again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try moving the new com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/ (e.g. to the Desktop) and rename the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Since Mail decided to discard it, I would expect this file to be corrupt (I don’t understand why would Mail discard it and create a new one otherwise), but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming the file.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Help -- where did Express Setup Assistant go?

hello, i am a new user to Airport Express. I had all my setting on an "old" computer -- Airport worked great. Just got a new laptop (using Windows Vista) and was trying to put all the admin utitities on my new computer. i have seemed to misplace the install disk that came with the Airport. on my old computer, i used the "airport setup assistant" often, and found it much easier then the airport admin utility. when i went on line, i found Airport Support, 4.2 for windows on the apple website. Downloaded and installed -- but it did not include the setup assistant program. Is there any help out there to know where i might be able to find the assistant and download it? i cant find it anywhere on the Apple website. Thanks for your help...this fourm is awesome...
    Matt

I didn't upgrade to Vista, but did need to re-download the same app. Took a bit to find. I also like the Express Assistant Utility. Download the Airport 4.1 for windows (Nov 2004) and execute. The Express Assistant is part of the package.

    Hope that helps.

  • Where can I download Airport Express (11g) Setup Assistant for Windows 7?

My AEx (11g) has stopped connecting.
On my PC, the AEx Setup Assistant  and Utility have disappeared - I need to download these for this old 11g AEx.
I run Optus cable <-> Optus modem <-> Linksys wireless modem <-> Windows 7 PC.
I use AEx to play iTunes music on a remote system.
thank you in advance for any help
    regards
    Chris

This is what appears for me when I click the link above in my post.
It works fine on 3 wireless devices that I just tested. You might want to restart your computer, or maybe check the Firewall settings on the PC.  If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials, it may be blocking the connection.
Not sure what else to suggest. Maybe try the raw address:   http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547

  • Where do I find setup assistant in Mavericks?

I did a clean istall with Mavericks and now time machine doesn't access any time prior to install. Possibly setup assistant will access this but I can't find it to launch it.
    Mid 2011 iMac 27"
    8GB Ram
    OS X 10.9
external iomega HD 1 terabyte for Time Machine

Most likely, some folders were inadvertently excluded from your backups, and as a result you can't restore your data in Recovery, Setup Assistant, or Migration Assistant.
Starting from a fresh installation of OS X, set up a new administrator account and log in. Enter Time Machine and press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible.* Select the one you want and navigate to your home folder (in the Users folder at the top level of the old startup volume.)
You should now be able to restore your user data. I suggest you do this in two stages. Quit all applications except the Finder before you begin.
Restore all the visible items at the top level of your home folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Enter Time Machine and restore all items in the Library folder. Log out and log back in as soon as the restore is complete.
Any other invisible folders or files at the top level of your home folder that you want to preserve will have to be restored separately. For most users, that isn't necessary.
You'll have to reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, or restore them from another kind of backup, if you have one.
You'll have another problem if this is a new computer, or if you erased the startup volume: The next time you back up, Time Machine won't recognize any files as being the same as they were before, and will make a full copy of all files. There might not be enough space on one or more of your backup volumes for that. There are different ways of dealing with that situation, depending on your needs. The easiest way is to set your backup drives aside, if possible, until you're sure you'll no longer need the data on them, then erase them and start over. Meanwhile start a new backup on one or more empty storage devices. If that solution isn't workable for you, ask for instructions.
*If you don't see any snapshots in Time Machine, exit the time-travel view and then hold down the option key while selecting
    Browse Other Backup Disks...
from the Time Machine menu, which has an icon that looks like a clock running backwards. Select the backups of your computer by its previous name. If you don't have the Time Machine menu, open the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked
Show Time Machine in menu bar

  • I think Bluetooth Setup Assistant is missing. Where did it go?

Just got a brand new late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro 13" and am having trouble syncing my Jambox. Usually I just find the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and re-pair it that way, but I can't find that. Is it missing in Mavericks? Possible to re-install?
Any other thoughts about why it isn't easier to pair my Jambox?
    Thanks!

Restore iPhoto 9.5.1 from the last Time Machine backup you made before you upgraded to Yosemite.
If that is not possible, try, if you can install iPhoto from the main "Featured" tab of the App Store.  It may not be possible to reinstall from the App Store at all, since the current version is iPhoto 9.6 and you already purchased it.

  • HT1766 Where do I find the Setup Assistant so I can restore a backup on icloud?

I have a backup from yesterday that i want to restore, however, I can't find the Setup Assistant in Settings? Help please.

Your post sounds very familiar to me,
The setup assistant appears on the iPad screen after you erase it in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings, after you have wiped the iPad, then the setup assistant guides you through the iPad setup.
But you must erase the device first.
    These should be helpful.

  • How do I get rid of the Microsoft Setup Assistant loop? I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word, and stuck in a loop?

I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word (for 2008), and stuck in a loop?
Whenever I select Word Microsoft Setup Assistant appears, asks for feedback, then after selecting okay (both on saying yes or no to feedback) goes on to a registration page. When I click on this it says I've already registered so I just click okay, and then move on to a update page. After this, if I click on Word, the process repeats itself.
As I said, I don't have the disk to reinstall, and can't find the Office Settings to delete as many pages have suggested I should try. Safe Boot restarting also hasn't worked... Really stuck and need Word very soon for work.
If you can help, that would be great, and feel free to ask any questions about the situation as I'm not an expert here.
    Cheers,
    Jack

First, export your contact from iCloud.com and save them on your computer in a safe spot some where (like you desktop).  Use this to help you do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
Next, on both of your devices, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on contacts and select Merge. Then turn off contacts and select 'Delete form my [device]' when prompted.
Now go back to iCloud.com and select a contact (yes they will all be messed up again) and select Command+A on a Mac or Control+A on a PC to select all of the contacts.  Tap the delete key on your keyboard (or right click /control click a contact and select delete).
You iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com should not be empty for contacts.
Go back to Settings > iCloud on both devices and turn on contacts again (you should not see merge this time).
Next, go back to iCloud.com and import your contacts (those exported .vcards).  You can either drag and drop them into the empty contacts list in your web browser, or you can use the gear icon to import.
You cleaned up contacts should import correctly into iCloud.com and sync to both of your devices.
    Good luck.
